1. God I hope there isn't a revolution in my lifetime, cause I'd lose my mind trying to organize and train so many Rambo yahoos that have been looking forward to such an event. It'd be a challenge to fight the urge to choke the s*** out of them as they emerge from the relative safety of their mom's basement, donning all the tactical gear they scored at a gun show and then realizing that there is more to war than arguing with a 9 year old on XBOX Live over which is more reliable: a SCAR or an STG77, while neither sees the obvious flaw in their respective arguments which is that neither has ever held one let alone employed one in combat. Rant off.

  2. Kyle is the real deal.  More importantly he's the real deal who also "gets it" as it pertains to civilian carry and self defense.   I won't begrudge anyone a day of rolling around in the mud because it can be a lot of fun, but like I said it's incredibly impractical.  I've started referring to the primary benefit of those classes as providing Retail War Stories for people who didn't sign up for the armed forces.  You pay your money, throw on a lot of combat gear, bunk with strangers-turned-band-of-brothers for a weekend, bust a lot of caps, and come away with some "No shit... there I was putting rounds onto this tango 300 yds away while my buddies were closing in from the left flank" stories that you can tell at your boring ass job come Monday morning.   If you're lucky, someone has a camera and the common sense to spot good photo-ops so you can post up a bunch of bad ass photos on Facebook.   Bah, who am I kidding.  Everyone has a camera. :)

  3. If the object is to make yourself more prepared to deal with likely situations you might face then you really need to train with the same kind of equipment and clothing you will likely be wearing when you have to use it for real.    If the object is to have a fun "dude ranch " type experience then bring and wear whatever you like...it is your fantasy dress however you like.    People ask me what to bring to pistol class. If it is a pistol class I tell them to bring what they really carry and wear what they really wear as THAT is what they will be using when they get jumped in a parking lot.    People ask me what to bring to rifle classes. I ask them to do a SERIOUS assessment of their likely use of the rifle and then dress accordingly.   Are they Mil guys? Bring your gear and wear it for the whole class.   Police? Wear your vest and duty rig if you like.   Civilian? Bring whatever you REALLY will use to carry mags. If that is one mag in the gun and a spare in your back pocket of your pants then good for you for training the way you are really going to be using it.    Train as you will fight. Otherwise it is just tactical entertainment.

  4. What is boils down to is:   The wife and I in total will be seeing 4% (2% each) less spending power each month. The Obummer army that lives off the government will go on as usual blissfully because they do not pay the taxes. The rich elite will find a few more loop holes and shelters so it will not impact them either. and congress welll... voted themselves a 3% raise.   So, it boils down to the middle class, from the lower to the upper sections, get trampled again.

  5.   Agreed.  I've been brainstorming some ways we can do that via TGO.  My requirement is that whatever we do, it must be constructive and put forward the best face possible.  In other words, I'm not going to play into the hands of the antis by forming or encouraging the formation of "armed rallies" where a bunch of yahoos with rifles or handguns show up and scare the hell out of the part of society that doesn't really care one way or the other about firearms but still votes for or against the issues that affect them.   I think this is perhaps the crucial point that a lot of the recent activism seems to be missing.  There ARE people out there -- fence sitters, if you will -- who do not really have an opinion about firearms in general but still vote on issues that affect those of us who do care about the Second Amendment.  Nothing polarizes the voting public like sensationalism, and nothing is as sensational as a bunch of rowdy, armed rednecks, toting signs about overthrowing Obama, hanging Senators and Congressmen for traitorous acts, etc.  I'm sure that statement will rub some fur the wrong way here, but the truth hurts to hear sometimes and I'm getting pretty tired of the public judging all gun owners by the appearances and actions of a small subset of the "gun culture".   What needs to happen is for the voting public to understand that their family physician, their pastor, the cute little unassuming soccer mom next door with a minivan full of children, the lady who cuts their hair, the guy who bags their groceries, the nice man who delivers their milk... all of those people are gun owners and many of them carry for their own self-defense.   Sadly the media is always going to seek out the one wild-eyed Bubba dressed in military garb, with a Gadsden flag on a pole, and a Glock on his hip, and take HIS photo and run it on the front page of the newspaper and as the highlight reel for the 10pm news and claim he's what gun owners look like.   The answer is to not be that guy and not have that guy at your rally.  But gun owners aren't willing to play by the rules set forth by the antis so we keep losing the PR battle.

  8. I suppose the rest of us are not as perceptive as you and DaveTN, as I don't pick up on these threats of "violent overthrow". According to you guys, anyone who says "if a gang of burglars breaks into my house while I and my wife and children are sleeping, they will be met with deadly force if necessary to protect my family", that statement equates to "I'm going to go out and find someone who looks like they might break into my house and kill them before they even think of breaking in to my house." The ONLY thing that I have read people saying is that "if some entity comes (to me, my home, my location) with the intent to forcefully disposes me of an object guaranteed me by a specific amendment in the U.S. Constitution meant specifically for the resistence of such an act, I will resist and continue to resist to the degree necessary until the aggression against me ceases." No one is saying that they are the ones who intend to go forth and purport aggression against the govt. or any other entity, all conversations that I am aware of are defensive in posture, NOT offensive. If you feel that you must leave, I am sorry that you feel that way. No one is advocating what you perhaps mistakenly think.

  9. I don't know why anyone still does business with Bank of America.  It's not just their anti gun stance.  Have they left any shadow of doubt in anyone's mind that they have total disregard for their customers by expecting them to bend over and take anything they dish out?   Seriously.  Why does anyone still do business with Bank of America.   Get your money out of there.

  10. Having been in situations where I was not shooting after analyzing the situation and the next to me was popping off rounds at a non threat, I think this guy did a great job showing restraint. He knew that his life was not in danger and that showing his weapon was enough to end the situation. He used the principles of escalation of force without even knowing it. Good job on putting the value of life over his own pride and anger!

  11. The majority of Americans would not need to revolt to cause a massive revolution.  Even if just a very small percentage took up arms the government would be overwhelmed.  Here's an interesting fact from America's past........   * During the Revolutionary War, only THREE percent of the people actually fought against Great Britain. * Only TEN percent of the citizens actively supported that three percent. * Approximately TWENTY percent considered themselves to be on the side of the Revolution, but they did not actively participate. * Toward the climactic end of the war, approximately THIRTY percent actually fought on the side of the British. * The rest of the citizens had no disposition either way. They didn’t care. They didn’t want anything to do with what they deemed to simply be a political issue. The sanctity, liberty, and freedoms of this nation were brought about by the unselfish, honorable, patriotic, committed, and determined acts of a mere 3%.  This three percent didn’t let the comforts of life blind them to the eternal significance of freedom. They didn’t allow evil speaking to sway what their heart told them was true. They didn’t postpone their actions for a more convenient time. They didn’t value their own life over the life and liberty of their fellow citizens.  In many cases, they sealed their testimony of Freedom, Liberty, and Choice with their blood and the blood of their families. Although it was only three percent, it was still sufficient to create a nation which was to be an example to all the rest of the world of a truly free republic. This three percent laid the foundation of the most powerful and prosperous nation on the earth. This valiant three percent manifested to the entire nation, and surely even the world, the unalienable value of hope, faith, family, virtue and freedom.

  12. It certainly provides an avenue for it but it shouldn't EVER be necessary. There's HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of weapons in the hands of the people. The Feds should cower in fear of that knowledge. They don't. Why? Because they have doped the country with an apathetic sedative. For Superntural fans, think Turducken sandwich. They've fed the country so much of it we are all docile cattle and any who try to break free from it are easily portrayed as domestic terrorists and the sheeple nod in agreement readily. We will never see organization or revolution until its all but too late. The price will be so incredibly high. You can talk about all this and get lots of people to agree, then try to get something going and what happens? ...welllllll, I would like to but I got to be to work in the morning, the wife has her yoga class and the kids have a softball game tomorrow. I'd love to help save the country but the wife says its not a good idea. American idol is coming on tonight. ....the BS goes on and nothing ever changes. It never will until things are all but destitute. The Amerikan sheeple are lazy fatazzes who aren't going to do squat. Disagree? Prove me wrong! I'll be happy to eat crow.

  13. Evidentally there are some groups who have started an anti NRA campaigns http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/dec/20/anti-nra-hotel-chains-discounts   What we, as gun owners, need to do is take a play from their playbook. How about as Anti Brady campaign among gun owners? It was their push for policy changes that lead to all the gun free zones. And those gun free zones are resulting in people being left defenseless and getting killed.   I know from now on I am going to openly blame the Brady Campaign for the recent mass killings. Fair is fair.   Dolomite

Part of the article talks about boycotting numerous hotels that offer NRA discounts.  Evidently a bunch of antis have left hateful messages on these hotels Facebook pages threatening not to stay there.  Along with several others I left an encouraging message there along with that of the antis.  I encourage others to do the same.  Just make sure that you are cool headed and polite and you will prevail over the hot headed antis and their allegations.

  20.
I worked for Target a long time and every year there's a toy for Christmas that's impossible to get. As employees we knew when new shipments would arrive. As long as you were off the clock you could buy them and do whatever you wanted. Some people put them on eBay or whatever. Too me it's not any different, that's a benefit of working there.
I doubt your old employer would agree. I recall that as an employee, using my employee discount to purchase items for resale was a firing offense. Even as a regular patron, it is still a d**k move to buy out all stock on something to create an artificial drought and cash in on it. What's going on right now with shortages has less to do with folks worried about buying up stuff in fear of a ban and more to do with folks clearing the shelves so they can make a profit off the situation. Those folks I would classify as first rate douche nozzles.

And their grand-children are once more slaves.” D. H. Lawrence (1885-1938)     What we are dealing with now is the result of the complacency of the past few generations.  Believe it.

  25. You are now paying more taxes.   I was just checking my bank account and noticed my employer deposited my check yesterday.  I noticed that it was less than my previous checks, and here I thought the middle class wasn't supposed to effected  ;)  .   Seriously, I knew it was coming since they didn't extend the reduced payroll tax.  While the tax increase really doesn't hurt me, it is the principle that matters.  It seems to me that if the government wants to force me to live on less money that perhaps they should do the same.  If I have to cut, then they should have to cut.   Ya know, last year was the first year I didn't vote straight line Republican.  I voted pretty much all independent as sort of a protest vote. What Republicans have shown me recently is that I was right in doing so.  If Republicans cave on gun control, immigration, global warming, or any other nonsense then I will be totally finished with the Republican party.  If the country is going to crash, fiscally speaking, then I want no part of voting in the very a$$holes who are causing it.

  30.   That is exactly right.   I've heard many say that the idea of citizens going up against a "future" tyrannical US government is just fantasy even if ARs and such were legal. I then quickly remind them of Afghanistan during the 80's when a ragtag army using nothing but small arms gave a world power all they could handle. Not to mention our own revolution where again the largest and most advanced army on the planet was bested by a vastly outgunned group of patriots. The will of the people, and a just cause, goes a long way when it comes to winning a war......

  31. None can deny: a gun-toting, gun-rights-minded democrat is a good thing, and something that is essential in the battles we face to kill much of the ill conceived gun legislation coming down the pike. These are allies infiltrating enemy ranks. While still a democrat, I purposed it in my heart to become a responsible, law-abiding gun owner. Having never shot a gun, I bought one and qualified for my HCP. Since then, it's been consistent, dedicated, training and practice.   What can I say? Gun ownership has a way of shifting one's worldview to a more freedom-oriented perspective. For me personally, there was an "ah-ha" moment along the line. I am responsible for my own safety, as well as that of my loved ones, and even innocents in harm's way. The government cannot, and does not, fill this role well. This is a God-given responsibility. It is backed up by a God-given right. The Constitution testifies to this right. There are people who would (to their own detriment) nullify this right for themselves and everyone else for political expediency, or out of sheer ignorance. Along the same lines of thinking, there are a lot of laws for "the greater good" that are very authoritarian, unjust, and in general an encroachment upon individual rights. Seat belt laws, helmet laws, etc., come to mind. As it stands today, I am an example of what I used to call the political unicorn: a Constitutionally minded, gun toting, freedom loving, Black conservative. Kind of cracks me up, actually. And this came to be through stepping out into the unknown wilderness of the "gun culture" to mine if for all it had to offer. Great people, tasty freedom, lots of fun, self-reliance. I've got a LONG list of people to take to the range, most of them liberals. So far, every single person I've taken really enjoyed the experience and is interested in getting a permit. Whether they become conservative or republican doesn't matter to me. What matters is that they taste, in some measure, the freedom they've been missing. That is never a bad thing. The rest will follow.

    1 point
  36. well done Brian.  And as usual, exactly what you said it would be.     The liberal quotes really drive home the emotion-driven, fear-based root of their view.  "these guns are made for killing" even though only 3 out of tens of thousands have killed in years.   "the only reason one can give is I want it" --- which is the same that can be said of cell phones, TV sets, sports cars, and just about anything that is not food, clothing, or shelter....   are we really saying it is acceptable to ban anything that is a luxury, that one must produce a NEED to posess any item?  That is...huge.   I need my AR-15 more than any liberal needs a joint, or a cell phone, or a car.  While possible, one can hunt with a car, but its not really recommended, I will keep the AR and the libs can hunt with their cars if they want.

His life may not have been in jeopardy from a pellet gun, but getting your eye shot out or a major artery in the neck by a pellet gun would be a severe injury. Like Caster said, gun owners could use some good publicity right now. So, I hope CNN picks up this story to show there are gun owners out there who aren't blood thirsty psychos.

  39. Yeah, this is kinda the same as folks who were cleaning Walmarts out of the prepaid smart phones so they could ebay them for 3 times the profit. Nothing legally I wrong with that. However, it creates an artificial shortage of an item which screws the consumer and only benefits a small portion of the phone buying population. So while it may not be illegal, it is a generally douchey thing to do and shows the low character of those that do it. On another note, somehow I doubt that his management at Gander Mountain would approve of him buying out stock before the customers get a crack just so he can turn a profit on it. The reason they give their employees access like that is for personal use, not off hours profiting. When I was a Walmart employee I received a 10% discount. That wasn't so I could buy up Playstations when they first came out so I could turn around and sell 'em at a profit when the shelves immediately emptied. I woulda gotten fired.

  43. Well it's not time for a shooting war right now, I seriously believe that if enough patriots organize we can change the outcome of un-constitutional legislation. It wasn't that long ago when citizens forced a government to obey the will of the people who elected them, that was when Neifeh and Sunquist tried to sneak an income tax on the citizens of Tennessee and enough patriots organized just enough to shut down downtown Nashville and pretty much trap the legislators inside the capitol. It was enough of a demonstration to make many legislators reconsider their decision, it worked. The people still have the power if they just use it. I hope it never comes to a shooting war, there's many ways to resist before it comes to that. I will say this, I have no intention of turning anything in and I have no intention of registering anything, some may say that would make me an outlaw but Washington, Jefferson, Franklin ect. were also considered outlaws at the time.
