  1. My wife, daughter, nephew, and myself all head to Waffle House this evening for supper. As I pull in I notice the same front plate on a Suburban that has always been on the front of my Dad's vehicles "Once a Marine, Always a Marine". I get the same proud grin every time I see it, or any military branch plate. We walk in and I see the older Marine sitting at a table by himself wearing his Vietnam Veteran cap and walk directly to him to thank him for his service. My daughter and nephew followed and thanked him as well and we all shook his hand. He smiled, thanked us, and wished us a good evening. When we sat down, I waved his waitress over and before I could say anything she walked up, smiled, and said "You want his check don't you?". I guess she could see how proud we all were to thank this man for all he'd done. As we finished our meal, I just thought about all of our veterans and how I wish I could buy every single one of them a meal and how it's the least we could do. As we were getting up to pay, he was leaving as well and had just been told that we'd taken care of his check. He walked up to us, leaning on a cane, and I wish y'all could have seen the smile on his face. It was heart warming. He thanked us, and said told us that it was a blessing to him. I told him Thank You and that he was a blessing to us and that MANY people are so proud of all that vets give and wished him a "God bless you Sir".    One of the greatest things about this forum is that I know we all think a lot of our vets and have a lot of members who are vets too. I also want to take this time to thank you all for everything you have done and do everyday.  :usa:   I've always respected what the men and women of our armed forces risk and give up for their country. But as I've gotten older, it sinks in even more. God Bless the USA and all those who fight for her!

  8. Not just for someone elses meal but my own. I find it appalling how little people tip. Sometimes there are people who tip around 5% or less. I get called a big tipper for tipping 15-20% and that's for below average service

  9. I love stories like this. Nice show of respect. :usa: :usa:   My wife and i were on vacation and visited a local watering hole one evening. I noticed a older gentleman across the bar in a leather jacket with military patches. He was sitting alone so i told the bar tender that we wanted to pick up his tab. About a hour later, after a modest 2 beers, the man found out his tab was covered. He walked over and sat down next to me and my wife. We spent the next two hours listening to incredible stories of his past. It was almost like he had waited years for someone to listen to him.   Around 1:00, we parted ways. It was a very moving experience for me. It was much like talking to either of my deceased grandfathers who served. Then, to my surprise, the manager came over to talk to us. He said the guy had came to that bar alone for the last five years and had never talked to anyone. He covered our dinner and bar tab and thanked us for taking the time to talk to the "old grumpy vet".    These guys are out there. They hold a great deal of history that will be gone in a few years. I encourage anyone who can to engage a vet in conversation. They often provide a good example of what being an "American" is all about!

  11. "...with Smith saying, "You're dying." It's followed soon after by another shot, which investigators said Smith described as "a good, clean finishing shot."   That right there alone would do it in TN too.  As we've discussed here many times, our "castle doctrine" does not license you to execute a perp. If it can be demonstrated that you were no longer in reasonable fear of death or serious injury, the default supposition of that evaporates for your actions past that point.   - OS

  12. After numerous problems with my Kahr I finally gave in and bought a Glock 26. First 9mm I've ever owned and I have to say I love it. Over 200 rounds with zero issues. I now know why so many people love them, and my wife's already eying one too.

  13. Hi Everyone,   I posted this in the Motorcycle Group but thought there may be some who aren't a part of it who may be interested and it didn't show up in any of the normal forum sections (that I could see).   In the last couple of months, I have got back into riding and just recently bought a new bike.  Actually I bought one on here which was a great bike, but just a bit too sporty for me, so I sold it and bought something a little more relaxed.   Anyway, I am thinking that it would be good to try and plan a TGO ride at some point.  Nothing extravagant, just a day to meet up somewhere and ride some of the local roads, grab some lunch, and just get to know a few more people.     I am in Franklin, so I am thinking about something in Middle TN, but of course those in some of the other areas could plan something as well.  Heck, even if there are some from different areas who are say a couple of hours apart, we could plan to meet in the middle somewhere as a group.   If anyone is interested, post here and we'll see what we can setup.  Now that I have my new bike I am ready to go out and enjoy it.   Ride safe.

  14. Not the best video ever but it will do lol. I was using a GoPro camera with a head strap mount. This was my 4th and final turkey. Like I said not the best video in the world. Not gonna lie I was nervous. I had so many close calls on my 4th turkey it was killing me when he was coming in. I had to climb over a stone fence and barbwire fence to get him. Between that and climbing the hill to get him I was one tired fat guy ha ha.     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zktSamHdbI4&feature=share&list=UUxHCcDRfkHYpn97HfWv3GjA

  15.   the 380 thing is a joke.  If you get shot by one and are not on an OD dose of painkillers, you will notice it right off if it hits torso or head.  Its not the most potent round ever made.  But the Russians (back when it was the USSR so all those countries and more) the police there used a glorified 380. Its very popular in Europe as well, as a defense round. Its as strong or stronger than many of the rounds used in the 1800s with black powder. It will do the job, in other words. And if that does not convince you, look at james bond knocking bad guys thru walls with one hit from it..!   I also found the glock 17 to be a handful.   Ill be honest, the sig 9 has a sting to the recoil.  One box of 50 is about all I can take at one go.  Its not brutal or even "bad" for recoil but its moderate.  This is where try before buy would be handy.   The 380 is very gentle and I could shoot 200 in one go with it (I would not, but I *could*).    I dunno if you noticed or not but *supposedly* people lose more blood faster with an exit hole so round that do not exit are suboptimal.  The 380 may or may not exit, this is true.  I alternated solid and hollow point ammo in mine.  The solids *should* exit if you don't lodge in a big bone, and presumably you know where those are --- hips and legs for example.

  18. I'm talking about a piston with no mechanical connection to the bolt other than a spring... Sequence: 1) Cartridge ignites 2) Bullet travels down the barrel 3) Gas block is pressurized 4) Piston moves rearward against spring tension between it and the carrier 5) Spring tension between piston and carrier exceeds the preload of the buffer spring as the piston continues rearward, and the carrier begins to move 6) Piston slows and carrier picks up rearward momentum as the bolt unlocks 7) Piston reverses motion as it reaches relief ports and gas pressure subsides, while the bolt carrier reaches the rear of its travel 8) Bolt, carrier and piston return to battery and load another cartridge The benefit is, the gas pressure can spike and store energy in the piston spring without moving the bolt carrier before the pressure has reduced, increasing dwell, plus, the rapid motion of the unfixed piston counteracts some initial recoil, while the bolt carrier becomes essentially the damper in a constant pressure reciprocating system, moving only as much as the piston spring stored energy is limited to... Essentially, you can over gas the piston and maintain a preloaded bolt velocity at any power level.

  19.   I know some of the guys who shoot that show through my work (video production) and they don't really have anything nice to say about them. While there is made up drama for TV, I think there is plenty of other drama at that place.

  24. What a piece of art this thing is.......A diamond in the rough it ain't. For a collector of junk firearms it may be a diamond. I got 18 32 Remington bullets with it. My buddy brought it by and just dropped it off and told me to do what I can with it and I told him I could dig a hole out in back yard and hold funeral services for it and he just laughed. The only thing that might get anyone excited is it seems to have a low serial number. it's in the mid hundreds and I guess that would be a low number.........

  29. Oh, no, I don't plan on shooting it. I plan on finding a person I don't have much use for that knows nothing about guns and selling it to them. I would like to get at least part of my buddies money back for him. I have no plans to shoot it at all. I will post a few pictures of it and ya'll are not going to believe this but just had one of my bait customers stop by and he saw the gun laying on my table and said, " I have a 380 just like that and I like it. I have put probably 200 + rounds through it and once in a while it will jam but I like it." I was nice and didn't say anything bad about his gun since he liked it an all. I did have another guy stop in today and said he would actually give $125.00 for it if he could shoot it and it worked ok. The guy is a friend but don't know about selling it to a friend. He said he would like to have it as a night stand gun. Oh well I wish my buddy had not brought me the damn thing but I will try and do something with it. Just not sure what?????? Wish they would have a Buy Back Program around here close. This is the only gun I would really like to see destroyed and get something for it in return. I will post a few pictures of it since someone ask to see some.

  33. If I grab a serviceman or cop's meal, I make it a point to include tip (it's proper, and in fact, they may not have calculated it before their meal). And..... I tip at least 20% or more. I can't afford that, but the server usually can afford it even less than I.

  34. You might want to check out the firing range demo and review by our area's own Hickok45 on youtube. He discusses the 938 versus a double action only Kahr. Seeing his fine handling of the diminutive 938 is fun to watch. http://youtu.be/w6Js4acN46k Thundersnow (above) nailed the serial number issue. Good luck on your search!

  35. I use the AMNPS with great results. Just make sure to get it started good and let it burn for 10 minutes before blowing out the flame and putting it in the smoker and it will do just fine. I use a propane torch to get it good and hot to start and have never had a problem. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  36. We all "plan ahead" such as if I hear someone coming through the front door I will_____ to defend my family or if I hear window busted on the backside of the house I will_____ to defend my family but that much different than hearing one of those sounds and setting up for the kill all the while rubbing your palms together with insane happiness. This guy was as guilty as the teens were I think and I believe the conviction was correct. The insanity deals are in fact insane themselves because if we let murderers on by reason of insanity then we most assuredly have to let them all plead insanity because anyone that makes the decision to kill when another option could easily replace it is insane.

  37. The serial numbers on the P938 all start with “52A0” then all numbers after that are the unique numbers to your pistol. The ones with serial numbers of 8899 and lower are the “misfit toys”. These serial numbers relate to manufacture dates of about mid-September 2012 and earlier. - See more at: http://centermassgroup.com/2013/05/sig-sauer-p938-review/#sthash.FltQhX8r.dpuf Also the manufacture date should be on the box...

  38. He set up a comfortable chair, started a tape recorder going, and waited in ambush. After shooting them from across the room he followed with a contact "finishing" shot to the head. This was NOT self-defense in any form. Even though the teens were far from innocent (they did break into his home and steal stuff multiple times), this was clearly pre-meditated murder.   However, reading the transcripts from the recording almost makes me lean toward an "insanity" plea. The old guy just doesn't seem right in the head.

  43. I was killing time this morning so I decided to go in for my dose of dissapointment of not getting 22. I went back to the gun counter and a saw 50rd boxes of 22, 2 box limit but hey 100 rd for $5otd. I asked the guy at the counter if that was all the 22lr they got in, He said "yeah we haven't seen bulk 22 for a while". I took my 100rd and started looking at some guns and 2 guys walked up and started chatting up the guy behind the counte like they were old friends. I didn't think anything of it until I heard one of the guys asked "do you have it back there" they were wispering as to hide what was going on. Then the guy behind the puts up a Bucket o Bullets and a box of 1000rd box of M-22. I heard the tal on make a comment on how much these get online and the all got a laugh from that. I got pretty pissed right then and there so I snapped a pic of the guys he was talking to(see below)The tall one in Green and the girl in the . he handed them over the counter they walked up front. I went and found the manager and told her what happened and she seemed pretty upset about it and immediately went back to the gun area. I don't know if she actually talked to them or if anything will come of it but I think I might stop spending money there for a while. It is 4 hours later and I am still pissed. I will say I don't know if they came in before me and it was being held behind the counter for them but I suspect if he was lying to my face that was probably not on the up and upI am sorry if these guys are members here but this is more of a bad mark for Academy. I blurred the face of the guy that had nothing to do with this.

  47. I had the same exact experience at the Rivergate Academy. Told me they were out of the Buckets and so I look around as I was mostly killing time. Some older guy comes up and he starts talking low with the counter attendant. The salesman not thinking I could hear them or was watching them points at me and tells him to be quiet as he pulls TWO buckets from under the counter and the older guy shields them from me with his body. Pretty crappy and it ate me up as I went home.   I called back and spoke to the store manager and he assured me they do not hold ammo for anyone and seemed to be concerned about the practice. I could care less about getting the ammo as I didn't need any and wasn't really going to buy any, but how he treated me when he thought I couldn't hear or see him was really infuriating and I let them know.
