It was a budget build, but it'll shoot three rounds touching at 100 yards. We had a fine afternoon of shooting now that the weather has finally cooperated a bit. 8 points

I went to the range with my brother today to shoot some stuff for his birthday. After we had been there about 2 hrs this older gentleman pulls up and gets out with a bag, he stands behind us until we are done shooting and while we are talking he stats walking around picking up brass. Well after a few minutes this asshat says "hey buddy that's my brass your picking up do you work here or something?" To witch the older gentleman said " I am so sorry I didn't see you picking any up so I thought you were going to leave it, you see me and a couple other Vets get together and reload ammo and talk on the weekends and we ran low on brass this weekend". After that I, yes I am the ASSHAT, helped him pick up the rest and thanked him for his service to our country. After I removed my foot from my mouth my brother and I sat there for another hour just talking to this wonderful gentleman, it turned out to be a very nice day, and I know he should have asked before picking up someones brass, but yes I still feel like a total asshat for disrespecting that nice older gentelman.4 points

Man, I am truly sorry to hear that. I was diagnosed with bronchitis and low fever among other things. Got antibiotics and some kicktail cough medicine. It's ok to put salt around the rim of my cough medicine bottle right?4 points

I received this and another Boker this past week. The Sidekick has an OAL of 6.625" and a blade length of 3.25". The blade is 440C steel, the scales are Micarta and it included a Kydex sheath and a strange belt attachment. I have a BladeTech Tech-Lok belt attachment on the way instead. It's a pretty simple knife, made in China of course, and cost less than $50. Not bad for something small to hang on your belt and not get too worked up about if something were to happen to it. When I go to the range, all I want is to be left the hell alone. I don't mind social conversation between strings of fire, and I don't mind answering questions from people who have a genuine desire to learn something, but when someone comes up and pontificates at my expense, I get really grumpy, really fast.4 points

Funny thing is that is how I clear a path at the gun show. I am on crutches and when things start moving a bit slow I tell my wife my polio is acting up. People look around to see some guy, me, on crutches and no doubt want to get as far away from me as possible.3 points

Yeah, looks great. If you would PM me your address. I might have a trigger kit I can send you. Anything to help a kid get outside and into the shooting sports. And props to you for getting your son involved in guns, way too many parents are afraid to introduce their kids to guns.3 points

Here are some I took in San Francisco back in 2010. Neat city. Wouldn't want to live there but I've visited several times now and have enjoyed it. The fog was super heavy this particular visit so I wasn't able to take those iconic pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge that everyone strives to take, but it ended up being a blessing in disguise and I was forced to explore other shots of it instead. The fog and the heavily-filtered dim sunlight really lent a sorrowful tone to the beautiful architecture. For some reason the crisis helpline call-box really stood out to me and told the darker story of the Golden Gate Bridge. I was not previously aware that numerous people travel to San Francisco each year just to take their own lives by jumping from that bridge. The Rangers at the park were telling us that they do sweeps of the parking lot every morning and evening to see if there are any cars that appear to have been abandoned. If so, they begin searching. The impact of the fall rarely mercifully kills anyone who jumps, they said, but rather does tremendous damage to a person's internal organs and leaves them helpless to drown. Frequently the bodies of jumpers are washed by the tides all the way out to the Farallon islands nearly 30 miles away. Anyway, it was kind of surreal walking along on the bridge with so much of it obscured by fog to the point you could only see the water below every so often, with no ability to see if someone might have been out there on the verge of death hoping that a friendly voice or hand might guide them back in off of the rail. :( BTW, that sad looking guy in black in the last photo, walking along staring at his shoes, was with me that day so I wasn't worried about him jumping. He was a co-worker and we were out there on business, but as annoying as that dude was, I might have pushed him if given the chance. :devil:3 points

The more pressing mystery, my dear Watson, is how does one get a holster into a pistol like that? :whistle:3 points

It’s been shot (all S&W’s have), 30 years isn’t really old for an S&W revolver, and it’s been polished; shoot it and enjoy it. Properly cared for you could shoot hundreds of rounds and it wouldn’t look any different. Stainless guns can be returned to near new condition unless there is physical damage.3 points

I bought this one a few weeks back. I was looking for a 9mm. Talk about ADD. It's a 1949 model 70 Winchester standard in 30-06. It came with a Redfield 1 piece mount and rings, and a 3-9 Redfield scope. My very first handload attempt rewarded me with a 1", 100 yard 3 shot group. The trigger is great, and the action glides like it's on ball bearings. Once upon a time, Winchester built world class firearms.2 points

I could let it go if it was directed at me. But man if I saw some dude saying that to someone else I guess I'd need the lawyer on retainer as suggested. Obviously he had problems. Maybe senile, maybe mentally ill, maybe drunk. Why aint there a mental illness that makes people nice.2 points

There's a good chance this guy had Alzheimer's or was in some other way mentally defective. Normal people don't act like that. Sorry you're the guy that got singled out this time, Gordon. :(2 points

Ehh, he could have waited until you left, or just asked you. With ammo prices what they are these days, some people take their brass seriously. Also, I'm instantly suspicious of people who volunteer that their veteran status in a confrontation. Why not use just say friends, or buddies?2 points

I don't need anyone telling me my gun is clear or not clear. I'm perfectly capable of checking the condition of my weapons. Handling a weapon why people are down range is not a blatant sin. Loading one would be but simply touching it is not. I hate range Nazis2 points

Every young man in that age must have a 410 single shot. Leave the centerfire to later. Don't rush him to grow up.2 points

My range has a pretty strict policy of No handling weapons when people are down range. Unloaded or not, it's just common courtesy to people who don't know you. I don't handle mine when the range is clear and people are setting targets. There's no reason to. I wouldn't care if wasn an FBI weapons specialist, i don't trust anyone in that respect. To answer the OP, there's never a reason for people being a know it all douche but, there's no reason not to respect others safety at the range and as I said, just cause YOU know theyre not loaded don't mean others do. Btw, I hate those kinda range officers too. Thankfully Charlie run those off.2 points

I'd say he was just taking rule number one for gun safety a bit too far. I'd never tell anyone what to do with their weapon, unless they were a danger to those around them, but some people just need to feel special I guess.2 points

This is a pic I took nearly two years ago during a trip out west. We went to Zion National Park in Utah. I hiked up the trail (1500ft. elevation gain) and made it to the top of "Angel's Landing." At the top you can look down Zion Valley for this incredible view. This had been at the top of my bucket list for some time, and for a 61 year old man it was a hike of a lifetime. Man this is kicking my tail. First 2 days had choking sensation, didn't realize it was congestion until the third day it traveled in my upper chest. Now 3 days later, feels like a snow plow ran down my throat and then a salt truck immediately there after. Chills all day yesterday. Thankful no nausea. I hope everyone else dealing with this had a speedy recovery. I've got a switch kick in the taint to the person who got me infected.1 point

Not a human doctor, but folliculitis is a common symptom in dogs with allergies. Normally, dogs are treated with something like cephalexin and a medicated shampoo. Generally speaking, the itching decreases as you kill off the bacteria. In dogs, however, the skin only gets 3% of the blood flow, so we have to use relatively high doses of antibiotics over a long period of time (2-6 weeks). Usually, the medicated shampoo that I use is a combination antibacterial + antifungal because fungus is one of the main rule outs for the same set of symptoms. I have rarely used doxycycline for a skin infection in dogs, but I suppose the types of bacteria common in humans could be different. Doxycycline does have an anti-inflammatory effect independent of the antimicrobial effect, so you've got that going for you. In dogs, we often use prednisone at the same time. Conventional wisdom is to not use corticosteroids in the face of infection because of the potential suppression of the immune system, but we do not seem to have a problem. However, humans appears to be very different in regards to steroids compared to dogs. My son was prescribed prednisolone for asthma, and I couldn't believe the dose based on the doses I use for dogs, but apparently it was correct. When I was young, and sometimes with my son, we were both prescribed antibiotics and prednisolone for bronchitis, so I know there are situations where physicians use them together. I would call Monday and see what the doctor says; they may have been waiting to see if the doxycycline worked well enough before using steroids.1 point

For some reason, Hi-Point's remind me of the water pistols I had as a kid. But, if they put rounds on target, have at it.1 point

I expect cheaper 9mm to evaporate soon too. Whole thing is very much like the days between Sandy Hook and Manchin-Toomey in that even things that weren't remotely under consideration for banning were all snapped up. I'm actually more than a bit surprised that all Russian ammo has not been embargoed. Yet. - OS1 point

As long as it goes bang! Seriously though, the Hi-Point has always struck me as an automatic pistol built by someone who had never seen another automatic pistol before. That's neither good nor bad. Just really different and kinda clunky. :)1 point

thank you for your service! a sniper rifle is great but lets be honest... the average joe can't hit squat past 300-500 yards. You start talking 1000, 2000 yards and so on with a 50 bmg, you got a guy never shot before trying to deal with crosswinds and earth rotation and whatever else with no training? Not too many will be effective with this. Typical bubba with a deer rifle is fine. 100-200 yards is easy with a good one, and most of your bubba's that have the same thoughts that you do *have* this. And a typical AR is fine. It takes just a dremel tool and some wherewithal to convert one to full auto, if you *want* that. IMHO if there are enough targets here in the states to spray lead at, we are already done for, but its not hard to produce a lead sprayer. Illegal, yes, but given the situation... And AP is not too hard either. Plenty of joes got some basic metal working stuff and can make a hollow steel needle/bullet, fill the inside with lead, it will go thru most body armor. Everyone knows it, doing it is illegal, and again.... if we got 20 million enemy marching up our shore, you won't be arrested for it. Take heart. Poorly armed people have held off superpowers in countless conflicts. That sad story repeats over and over... America is still quite capable of waking up and defending itself. There are a lot of people who hate war and fighting etc, but I suspect they will come around in short order if THEIR life is in danger.1 point
