  1. So in roughly a years time...we went from optimism about national reciprocity, silencers coming out from under the auspices of the NFA, and the rest to a Republican President calling for a bump stock ban, and a Republican Congress casually looking the other way? #Winning

  2. NRA Lifetime member here. None of these organizations are perfect but I would hate to see where we would be without them.

  3. I saw Graham once in person - maybe around 2000. It was a neat experience. I've always appreciated his humility. So much so, that I wouldn't even rank him amongst the televangelists that came and went throughout his career. He certainly had his failings - and I've heard him reflect on learning from those. The kingdom lost a great worker today.

  4. I don't trust any of them. Actions speak louder than any promise by any of these politicians. I'm an American, not a political pawn piece. Sad we do not have anyone to support.

  6. Yea, I think another piece of the cake can be sacrificed How about we start talks about upping the age cell phones (a privilege) can be purchased, and to get a drivers licence, (yup, a privilege as well)? We lose more young people to distracted driving due to cell phones than we do to shootings!

  8. I told folks many times from the early on in the election cycle that if you looked at Trump’s history he was an anti-gun liberal democrat. He was a supporter of the Clinton AWB and no friend to the gun owner. I knew this day would come, but you can’t be mad at the scorpion. He is only doing what it was in his nature to do. It’s the frog who should have known better.

  9. Clearly you know more about it than I do. I'd never heard of peated scotch before now. I've tried JWB and thought it was terrible. Now I know what to avoid.

  10. Yes, poor, poor Trump. Maybe if he wasn’t needlessly pandering to everyone he would not be attacked by everyone. Republican House? Republican Senate? Why not just make a polished statement proclaiming that guns are not the issue at hand, and that he will sign no anti-gun legislation while he is in office? Then he wouldn’t be criticized by us over this particular matter. Instead he just went quite far in alienating a large portion of his base. True colors I suppose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. A draft copy of Episode 00 - The Prelude has been uploaded. This episode is only ~10 minutes long and it's just me. In it, I lay out out my vision for what I want the Shooters Nation Podcast to become and ask for a couple of things from you in return. On the next episode, I'll be joined by some friends - folks you probably recognize. Maybe some folks you've even heard of yet. Let me know what you think!

  14. I thought I had it figured out. The pistol for me. The "I don't CARE what other people want, or what's popular, it's for ME" pistol. I'm equipped with some good revolvers which I'll never let go of. So that niche is covered. Good to go. I had grown completely weary of Glocks, my oldest son wanted a Glock, so I gave him two. Good to go. Now to figure out what I want for ME. Borrowed his Beretta 92. Loved it. Carried it for a while. Thought "I'll go this route." Bought a Beretta 92G Elite II. "THIS is PURDY! This is the one for me!" Is it? So why can't I get away from the constant siren's call of the 1911? I can't stand this much longer.

  15. get a survey of the lines. then have the current owner fix the problems. it he can not fix the problems that pass the legal test it is time to look at others places to buy. these type of problems don't go away.

  16. The 1911 is what all pistols aspire to be. Just buy one and get it over with. You'll thank me later. Oh, and everybody needs a 92 or a 96....

  17. This is in fact true. The billet trunions are marked with a star stamp on the left side. I picked up a "blem" today for $499 shipped. Hard to beat at that price. Good thing is that if something goes wrong PSA has a lifetime warranty on their guns.

  18. From what I have read, the Gen 2s all have billet trunions which was supposed to have solved that concern. It seems the first gens had cast trunions. Again, not first hand knowledge, I read it on the interweb so it must be true. I keep hearing good things so I guess if they run them again I will have to hit the button. Thanks for the update.

  19. No regrets yet but I probably have less than 300 rounds through it to-date. I keep reading horror stories online about the PSA trunions cracking and failing on their AKs but I haven't seen and evidence of that happening on mine yet.

  20. Just to cover all the facets of the man, let's not forget about the disparaging statements about Jews with Nixon in White House, and his denial saying them, which of course was proven to be a lie years later when the tapes were released. Also, I was among the protesters at the Graham/Nixon/Neyand Stadium fiasco in 1970. Use of state university property for religion, and then mix into the religion the political stumping to boot, all at the height of the Vietnam protests, whole thing was shameless. https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/local/tennessee/2018/02/21/protests-and-progress-nixon-visit-put-knoxville-national-stage/358244002/ Few of our heroes have feet totally devoid of clay. - OS

  21. Yes there have always been nutjobs but there used to be a bed to put them in...not so much anymore cause well you know...we don't want to place a stigma or embarrass them. Just dope them up and send them out in public to do stupid or even lethal and crazy things. Better living through chemistry my butt.....

  22. The problem is not those with mental conditions. We have always had crazy people. Problem is they are convincing normal people that their life sucks but a little pill will fix it. And when they start taking those pills they do crazy things.

  23. Credit card companies will issue cards to anyone these days, even a 19 year old. When my son graduated he didn't work. Matter of fact his first job was the military. Even he had zero income with zero work history he got credit card offers pretty regularly. He could have easily covered the cost of seven guns with at least one of those cards. Your credit score has no bearing on being offered credit cards. Also, if he was planning on doing this he wouldn't give a damn about his credit rating after maxing out credit cards. That Hogg kid is full of it. He was not a student there and there is plenty of evidence to suggest 99% of what he is saying is rehearsed BS. But he will be propped up on a pedestal as a hero for speaking out, just like the others who are calling for gun control.

  27. You may be right but I have a slightly different opinion. I don't think he hates guns or the 2A. My belief is that Trump's only allegiance is to himself and his brand. He is going to say or do whatever he feels will benefit him the most. As a rich elite in NY it made more sense for him to be a liberal his entire life up until he thought he might have a chance at becoming President. Once he saw the outrage that Obama created he suddenly changed his mind on most topics and declared himself a conservative. I just read that in 2000 he ran as the candidate for the Reform Party and ironically one of his biggest goals was universal healthcare. He also claimed Oprah would be his running mate. My how times have changed.

  28. I agree. In my opinion better than Hillary, but at least with Hillary people knew and would have known what to expect. The enemy you know and what not. I think Trump realizes that there is a definite line with firearms regarding his supporters. Does/will he care? I suppose that depends on how much longer he has in office and whether he considers it a possibility and seeks re-election. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  30. I've said that for years. Gridlock is the best option when it concerns the federal government. No action is usually the best action, at least they can't make it worse. My guess is the NFA will have to be revised to include bump stocks and binary triggers to accomplish the "ban". I also won't be surprised to see a proposal to include "high capacity" magazines as well.

  31. I'm on the last(?) book of a 7 book series, Extinction, by Nicholas Sansbury Smith. It's a biologically induced, mass population killing--changing into monster forms, type of book. Characters are good, a few are well developed, some just there, if you understand what I'm trying to say here. The story, and the books, move it a frenetic pace. Rarely giving the characters, or the reader, time to take a break. Overall, the series has been entertaining and readable, not tremendously good. I would give it a 3.5 on a 5 scale.

  33. You do make some good points and I respect your position, but I have to wonder how much worse off we would be if their were no NRA. The NRA does compromise too much, although they don't as much in recent times as they did in the past. The NRA does know how to play politics and sometimes you do have to compromise for the greater good. It could be that they see a big wave of sweeping legislation coming and they try to cut it off by "throwing them a bone". Lots of back room deals going on and sometimes you do have to give something to get something in this nasty corrupt world we call politics. If we can get out of all this with a bump stock ban and some sort of background check enhancements and no new AWB, I'm afraid that may be the best we can do in this political climate. In a perfect world, they would be against any gun legislation, and fight tooth and nail to expand our rights. I'm not trying to excuse them, but I'm a life member and still think that membership is a good cause.

  36. What frustrates me most about all of this is that the very people that do not trust anyone with a firearm suddenly fully trust that same person when you hand them a LEO badge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  37. I agree for the most part, except that LEO is already stretched thin, and it would take a huge tax increase to hire more. This is supposed to be the Volunteer State, why not use volunteers? While LEO do get some training, it is woefully inadequate in most departments, specially when it comes to range time. The training you speak of comes with experience, the actual rules of engagement can be taught in a weekend course. It was the same in the military, most non line units only qualified once a year and hardly ever did any kind of direct contact training, at least not until after 9/11. And if you allow military and LEO volunteers, the learning curve would be much less. Wasn't there a civilian training program already??..yup. http://www.nashville.gov/Police-Department/Get-Involved/Citizen-Police-Academy.aspx

  38. I myself just joined GOA as a lifetime member. It's $500 but can be split up into payments quarterly. It was only $50 tonight. I'll get around to paying the rest over the next few months. It's easy to do and probably took me about five minutes. http://gunowners.co/life-membership $500 is the cost of a gun, but I signed up so that hopefully my kids will someday have the right to buy a gun as well.

  43. Kilchoman is an Islay distillery and most, if not all of their scotch is peated. If you haven’t worked your way up to liking peat smoke, you may not like any of their stuff. Caol Ila is a bit milder peated scotch that you might like better, but you may just want to give Johnnie Walker Black a try to see if you like lightly peated whisky. JWB is a blended scotch, so it’s not the same as a single malt scotch, but I believe it has a small amount of Caol Ila in it to give you a sense of peat without it dominating the taste profile. I believe all of the scotches that you indicated that you’ve had and liked are not always aged in sherry, wine etc. I’m pretty sure that the entry level scotches (10 and 12 year olds) for those brands are all just aged in used bourbon casks. However, those brands do all have older or specialty bottles that are finished in other spirit or wine casks. For instance, Glenmorangie Lasanta is the original 10 yr Glenmorangie that was matured in ex-bourbon casks that has been further finished in sherry casks...can’t remember how long it stays in the sherry cask after it’s dumped from the bourbon cask.

  48. .44 Special/Magnum along with .38 Special/.357 Magnum are the most versatile cartridges there are. Just the history of development of the Magnums show us this. Since it will be mentioned, a shout-out goes to the versatility of 45 Colt as well. With the proper gun that thing is just a beast.

  49. I agree. I give One Second After 5 stars, One Year After 4 stars, and The Final Day 2.5 stars. I'm glad I read it and wrapped up the series, but it's not as good as the first two by a country mile.
