  1. Ok, TTAG wrote up an article covering this case and included some very vital information that was left out of the Prince Law article. https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2018/11/daniel-zimmerman/atf-suffers-rare-court-loss-in-ohio-short-barrel-rifle-prosecution/ Here are some key points: Toledo police responded to a domestic disturbance call in March at the home of Kelland and Christina Wright. Mr. Wright, a Marine veteran, allegedly threw a cell phone at his wife and was arrested. As a part of an arrest for a domestic violence complaint, police confiscated all firearms in the home, including an AR pistol equipped with the Maxim cheek rest. When the gun was subsequently examined by the ATF, they deemed it an unregistered short barrel rifle (SBR). That determination was based on the fact that, according to the ATF’s measurements, the Maxim cheek rest — which had been altered with the addition of a rubber “cane tip” on the end — resulted in a length of pull that’s greater than the 13.5-inch limit the ATF says is the maximum for any similar AR pistol accessory. Wright had apparently added the cane tip to keep the gun upright when stored in his safe. Prosecutors argued that was an illegal alteration to the gun. As a result, Wright was charged with possession of an unregistered short barrel rifle, a felony. There were a couple of problems with the caseagainst Wright, however. First, the ATF has never issued an official public opinion letter stating that AR pistols with such accessories— cheek rests, pistol braces, etc. — must have a length of pull of no more than 13.5 inches to avoid being considered an SBR. The ATF had communicated that fact to various manufacturers in private opinion letters concerning their specific products over the years (and some of those companies have chosen to make those letters public), but nothing has ever been communicated to the general gun-buying public by the agency. As a result, the defense argued that Wright had no reasonable way of knowing about the 13.5-inch length of pull limit. There’s a Supreme Court precedent in Staples v. United States that found a gun owner has to knowthat his firearm has characteristics that bring it under NFA regulation to be guilty of a crime. Regarding the ATF asking to seal documents: The Prince post also mentioned that the ATF asked for and was granted an order sealing a number of documents used in the case. As a part of their defense, Wright’s attorneys used a selection of those opinion letters the ATF had issued to manufacturers in connection with specific products under consideration. The ATF argued against releasing those for use by the defense in the trial, but lost that fight. The ATF then, reasonably enough, sought to have those letters sealed and not included in the public record of the trial because they contained potentially sensitive competitive information concerning the companies involved…not because they were trying to hide any internal ATF decision-making from the public. Those documents were never intended for public disclosure unless the companies themselves decided to release them. And for the final coup de grace, the defendant was represented by a public defender. So he didn’t owe a dime for his defense. I just want to repeat, the ATF had their asses handed to them by a PD.

  2. A YouTube channel called SmarterEveryDay recently posted a video about Shockwave Shadows. He uses mirrors and high speed cameras to capture stuff that isn't visible to our naked eyes. His name is Destin. Destin started by filming a 50 cal round moving and then went down to 300blk supers and then subs. And the footage of the subs is really fascinating, especially when he goes to an expert. Then he filmed a revolver with the same technique. Check out all of that gas from the cylinder gap.

  5. When my wife was going through a stressful time at work I bought her a bottle. She said it really helped. I couldn't help but notice I was the only customer in the shop under 60. One woman was so old and frail I had to help her up from the couch. Apparently word is out, CBD does wonders for a lot of people. I'm convinced if they legalized weed these same old folks would line up for something stronger. We would probably all be a little nicer to one another too.

  6. Raoul, thanks for the endorsement. Mrs GtG has some issue that CBDs should / could help. Knowing someone reputable and legit has found relief with the product gives me more confidence to investigate. I am a FIRM believer in medicinal use and application for all forms or marijuana, science don't lie (much) Enjoy 9 months of terminal cancer with a loved one and see the therapuetic impact. Recreational use (get out your tin foil hats) is for tax revenues and another way for .gov to dumb down and control the masses...

  19. The Remington runs quite well. I assume the additional bulk of the steel frame makes it more comfortable to shoot than the LCP. Of the two, I am able to get better accuracy with the RM380.

  22. I wanted a set up to do small receivers up to Rem rolling block size as a max and this was the cheapest way to do it. First I bought a used pottery kiln off Ebay for about 280 if I remember right. Now what makes a pottery kiln no good for the intended purpose is they general have a pretty cheap temp regulator. You need a Kiln that will hold 1500 Degrees F within a few degrees. That's where this unit comes in. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Plug-Play-PID-Temperature-Controller-Box-Kiln-Probe-Pottery-Glass-Annealing-/111131612124?hash=item19dff5d3dc Now comes the tinkering of putting the new controller in the old control panel. I kept the original analog temp gauge just to have a match to the digital add on one. This is what it looks like under the lid. Next up was to make a crucible to contain the part and the carbon mix. I had to size it carefully so it would fit inside the small kiln without being to close to the heat coils. heating slow and evenly is part of the equation. here it was specifically sized to fit the long griped stevens An aerator pipe was fabricated to bubble the water for at least an hour prior to a quench. High oxygen content is needed for good colors. The coiled bottom has a series of tiny holes drill for fine air release. Here, the bucket is a industrial laundry detergent unit that will hold my 15 gallons of Distilled water from Walmart. The crucible frame holds the container solidly and you can see the window screening that catches the part. Here you can see the crucible lift fork that can lift the container out of the kiln and the trap door hook screw driver I made up to yank the trap door open over the water. Quenching must be very close to the water and instantaneous. If the trap door hesitates to open in one swift motion, Its spoiled, and needs to be repacked and heated again. Ask me how I know The second receiver I did was this Marlin 47 pump 22. The quench warped the bolt enough to where I had to refit it but it worked out nice in the end. That used to be a fire damage gun that got new wood. The forend I made from an old butt stock scrap
