Forgot to post this here when it happened but better late than never.... (Oct 14th 2023) Today the year long journey to the IDPA World Championship match finished up. We shot half the match on Friday and the other half today. A couple of stages on Friday were not some of my best work but Saturday was pretty solid. In my entourage here was my everything Brandi Harris , my friend Trey Hudson , and my friend / coach / “man servant “ for the weekend Michael V Swisher . Mike helped keep me focused, manage equipment, pull the wagon, and strategize. For those who just want the cliff note version of the match , I finished in the top ten in my division at the World Championship with a 5th place in Master Class in the Backup Gun Division ! And finally a big thanks to my sponsor Natchez Outdoors ! Randy Harris Harris Combative Strategies Harriscombative.com Shooting past one of the NUMEROUS non threat targets. If you are pondering quality over quantity then considering a Hi-Point shows that you’re not serious.4 points

I've got different guns for different reasons. If there are extras or duplicates in a particular group then usually they are looked at first if a higher quality replacement is considered or purchased for the group. I then sell the extras to pay for the new addition. In the case of the 10mm I'd base my investment amount on its use. Plinker is one price range where a serious carry piece is a different price range. As far as selling all those in your way give a feller a heads up when you do lol3 points

You're not alone here. I was shopping safes this weekend when the realization hit me; I have a nice collection, but the value of my stuff isn't THAT high. I'm often kinda jealous of my buddies who have a purpose built set of gear. It's high quality, minimal and well organized. Part of me wants to sell a chunk of it and get down to a rifle, a pistol and a shotgun... Each higher grade. To do this however, I have to change ME. I packrat everything.2 points

I have reached my limit. I am retired with no payments any longer and a decent pension. I could buy about any extra guns that I might want. Most of my guns were bought new and I haven't shot but 4 or 5 of them. That being said, I am at the point now that if I buy another gun I sell one that I like less just to keep the number manageable. It is just a mental thing.2 points

The author of that article is either ignorant or attempting to be inflammatory. The MPDC policy does not apply to USSS agents. USSS policy applies, and the agent(s)' actions will be investigated under that policy and the applicable laws.2 points

Odd source for this type of article on Tennessee Gun Owners. It's from Rolling Stone magazine. Seems funding for the NRA as been slipping and rather than get rid of WLP and his crew of misfits, they are cutting funding for shooting education. Imagine that. The NRA was a great organization, until the crooks took it over. And I don't see it ever coming back to preeminence until WLP and his cronies are gone. Of course, as long as there's enough cash coming in to support their lifestyles, that's not going to happen. I'd copy and paste the article here, but I'm afraid the graphics might not come over. So here's the link. Go read it for yourselves. The NRA Is Cannibalizing Itself (msn.com)1 point

My wife’s brother has a daughter who has two daughters of her own. Best I can figure, that makes them my great nieces. Anyway, the oldest is about 3 years old. She never seemed to like me much, although they live several hours away from here, and we don’t see them very often. At her preschool, they were asked to name the things they are thankful for this Thanksgiving. She named off several things, including the family members she could think of. Then she asked her mom “Who’s the guy with the white beard?” Her mom said “Santa Claus?” She said “-No, Greg.” I thought that was pretty cool. It probably ain’t much to you, but hell! I beat out Sant Claus.1 point

I have taken a bit of a combined approach. I have some nice guns of all sorts, but I am basically now a 100% 22 guy. I have been selling off guns I don’t shoot and will probably never shoot and putting that money into higher end 22’s. I have enough of the other to still do anything I want but I don’t hunt anymore and am basically into precision shooting. I love me some small calibers still like 22-250 and 204 Ruger. I am a proponent of finding what you really love and finding the rarities in that and making it fun. I am kind of out of the collecting mode. Even my rarer or classic 22’s I want to shoot. What else is the point of having them.1 point

I agree with your assessment Mr Scotty! A Navy buddy of mine said you really only need 5 guns. Good quality daily pistol, AR for home defense, Ruger 10/22 for small game hunting, pump action shotgun for hunting, and a decent bolt gun for med game hunting. Weather the world is good or it is a SHTF situation you have what you need. I have since realized I don’t need his negativity in my life! But have found myself doing exactly what you’re talking about. Down sizing to 2-4 pistols, 2-3 fighting rifles, shotgun, bolt gun, and a 10/22. I think I have 22lr conversions for the ARs and Glock 19, 23,and 32. Still after a few but they are more of inquisitive thing than actual need. I’d like a decent 2011 but maybe just want to shoot one for a bit. I’d like a small Sig p320 to use as a backup to my M17 on my grocery shopping end of the world kit. That way they both use the same magazines. Other than that I think I have everything I need. Just do t tell my boss lady.1 point

The 10mm would 100% be a plinker. Truth be told I traded labor for a decent amount of 10ammo and I want the room in my safe. I think you’re on the other side of the state but I’ll give you a heads up, will probably mull this over for a week or so. It doesn’t have anything to do with finances but more so just manageability. I like your reasoning of trading up with dupes/spare parts.1 point

$800.00 This civil war musket riffle is in fair to good condition for it's age. It's 58 Caliber with a 33" barrel (that's the original length) . It is missing the ramrod. Hammer spring is strong. From what I read, the shorter riffles where for the younger and smaller men coming in near the end of the war. The American Civil War raged from April 12, 1861 to May 9, 1865 in which roughly 30,000 Model 1861 muskets were produced by Muir for the US government. Like the Springfield production of the Model 1861, the Muir Contract model could be considered the “everyman’s” infantry weapon. Case No. 85. William Muir & Company, and Windsor Locks. In this case bargaining achieved the desired end for Muir, confirmation of his contract for a full 30,000 Springfield rifle muskets. He delivered them all. William Muir on 7 December 1861 received an order from the Secretary of War for 30,000 Springfield's at $20.His contract, re-signed July 9, 1862, contained these terms and the deliveries which began January 22, 1863, and finished November 3, 1864, were paid at that rate: $20 and $16. 25,000 at the full $20 and the last 5,000 at only $16.1 point

I think it is an improvement, I would NOT say it turn the gun into a recoil-less wonder pistol but it is an improvement. PMM's marketing material shows 20-30% improvement which seems lofty1 point

Every time the nice lady calls to solicit a donation, I politely tell her, " Ma'am, I will not donate another dime to the NRA until Wayne LaPierre and company are no longer associated with it. I would appreciate it if you could pass this message along." They never seem surprised, and act as if I'm not the first to make this statement. I am a life member from way back, and would really like my money back at this point. It is a damned shame what this once great organization has become.1 point

Good on you! The difference is, people probably aren't lining up for months out to pay you for those trigger jobs. I've had some of my customs win championships, and those customers want very specific feels on their triggers. I respect anyone who invests the time and effort to figure out how to work on their own possessions, firearms or otherwise.1 point

From everything I've heard the accutrigger is worth it. Mine has it and it is pretty good. Barring that, the Axis line just works and is reasonably accurate. I've been having some trouble sourcing an additional mag though. The scope, at least on mine, is serviceable but has poor eye relief. Bushnell Banner branded although I don't think that goes for all the Axis line. It wouldn't be worth paying extra for in my opinion, and if your options were the scope kit or the accutrigger, I'd recommend the trigger. Overall there's a lot of competition in the budget category but the Axis seems to be among the better ones. If you wanted to step up, the Ruger American is a better rifle but usually at least 50% more expensive.1 point
