My ancestors fought and died under that flag. If anyone is offended by that they can kiss my ass. I can't change it, nor would I.5 points

Trace Adkins explains Confederate flag earpiece http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2012/11/30/trace-adkins-explains-confederate-flag-earpiece/?intcmp=features Some people need to just get over themselves. All of the political correctness and the constant apologizing is getting old. I'm a former yankee, got healed of that in 1974. I don't see the problem with a Confederate flag period. It doesn't represent what liberals and those who would claim to be politically correct say that it does. They need to get over it. I could make a list of things that offend me and cry about them (NAACP, BET, UNCF, CBCF, etc.), but I say live and let live. Give it a rest already.3 points

Humm...I wonder if perhaps TGO needs to establish a policy that no one is allowed start a thread or post immediately upon joining the forum or that the fist "X" number of posts must be approved by a Mod before being visible??? I've nothing specific against the "petition" above (I don't really know anything about it other than the post) but it just rubs me the wrong way to have someone from Colorado join just for the purpose of posting a link to a petition.2 points

As a banker I have has situations were a husband dies but whoever signed that note with them is still responsible. Even if someone didn't sign for it, if there was collateral you would have no choice but to collect on that collateral if someone didn't take care of the note. If there was no collateral you would have to file a lean against the estate. I'm sorry but bankers can't give money away. I have student loans, if in the case that I pass away there is enough life insurance to cover my debt. People just need to be more financially responsible. I truly believe that the loan provider should not be pressured into forgiving this loan because of pressure from idiots that don't like to pay bills. I fell very sorry for the pain that this young man's death has caused to the family, but they signed a contract that has to be up held.2 points

I agree. They should loose their clearances as well as their job if they hold a government job. If they signed it as a military member then they should be booted out under dishonorable conditions. If you signed the petition then, to me, you have denounced your willingness to remain a citizen of the United States. If you think the US is so bad that you feel you need to leave through secession then you probably need to go ahead and leave the country anyways. After all you have given up on the democratic process that we would have cheered had your chosen candidate won. Dolomite2 points

I have heard Fox news reference factcheck.org. Heard it after every debate when they cited factcheck over things Romney claimed. Just because they aren't verifying what you want to believe does not make it less truthful. I have a hard time believing that you 6.8 are drawn into it based on the link in the original post. I gotta trust my Occams razor instinct here. I also believe 2A is about all the Homeland Security we need here.1 point

There are no rights that are absolute nor did the founders say there were; they specifically allowed for any of our rights, even the right to life can be taken away with due process. What should not happen is for politicians to exert power to infringe or discard rights without due process but that is exactly what we have allowed to happen (and in fact, many, like Sara Brady, have asked for).1 point
A brilliant piece by Walter E. Williams - Parting Company http://www.gopusa.co...y/?subscriber=1
I thoroughly enjoyed the article and, while my agreement doesn't mean anything I agree that from a Constitutional perspective; a sate does have the right to secede. However, I would say that any actual attempt by a state today to do so today would turn out even less well for that stat than when it was attempted the last time. Even were such a move "successful" and peaceful, I think those who would propose it would be ignoring many, many realities of life today.. The Constitution may be (mostly) the same as the day it was ratified but society has changed in ways that our founders could never have imagined. All the individual states today are extremely dependent on other states for basic needs from food to pharmaceuticals to fuel and 10,000 other items any state existing without the other 49 is almost impossible and has been so for at least the last 100 years or so.1 point
My 7th great Grand father, Charles Butler, walked off a farm near New Bern NC back in April of 1776 to join the 2nd NC infantry. His son and his son's sons and their son' sons have fought in every war this nation has had until this one. My Father was WWII Navy. My uncles were in Korea, My brothers traded off tours in Vietnam. I am a Marine and a disabled Vet from my service in the Gulf. I signed the damn petition and I dare anyone to challenge my patriotism. The petition is nothing more than a symbolic gesture show our dissatisfaction the nations leadership and to remind them of our history when dealing with despots. Nothing was ever going to come of it and we all knew it going. If not they should have. If you do not believe Civil descent is American, then perhaps it is you sir who should be doing some insightful soul searching about what it means to be an American and a patriot. Knoxville, TN is named after him. I have always been fascinated with the founding of the United States of America and particularly the Revolutionary War and the Founding Fathers. My house is an 18th Century museum and tribute to America, Freedom, the Flag and all-things Colonial. I was a pre-law student in college with a major in History.
....It may be a bit subtle but there is a difference, I believe, between acknowledging that you have a right to do something but apply regulations VS saying you don't have a right to do this "thing" at all but we may let you if....
Well, any number of states already agree that you have no right to carry, but we may let you if... Including TN. So I repeat, I see no change. If we here ever get partial (open) or full (open and concealed) constitutional carry rights, it will granted by the state of TN, not the federal government. - OS1 point
Ideally I would have it for shooting at the range and for shooting small game in a SHTF scenario.
Someone will disagree with me, but I would prefer a bolt action rifle for this. Not to take away from .22lr AR's, but I just feel that the bolt action ones, preferably tube fed, have more to offer. For example, I can feed the CCI "Quiet" .22lr ammunition in my bolt action. Pull the trigger, it sounds like a pellet gun. Cycle the bolt, pull trigger again. http://www.cci-ammunition.com/whatsnew/newproducts.aspx 710fps 40 grain bullet Just a thought. I own the Marlin XT-22TSR. It was the only .22lr stainless tube fed bolt action I could find. For a survival gun, this is my vote.1 point

Irregardless of how a game plays out in Miami, Notre Dame has already been the big winner this season. No one saw them going unbeaten this year. The boost to recruiting will be immeasurable. 12-0 or 12-1 really doesn't matter. It would be awesome to go 13-0, but either way the next chapter in the Irish legacy is already written. All that remains to be added is a post script. Kelly has shown repeatedly in his coaching career how to build a contender. And don't forget history. The last four coaches who have won national championships at ND did so in their third year. Kelly is in his third year. And also let's don't forget Lee Corso picked ND to win it all. That guy is never wrong.1 point

HA Haters gotta hate! And I can't wait until the Miami game at Soldier Field with the funkyl uniforms and two tone helmets.
I enjoyed dredging this one up, Mike - you were way more confident than I was at the start of the season! I was hoping for 4-4 through October, with a 7-5 finish. It seemed like a safe bet at the start of the season, didn't it? 12-0 is so unexpected that I don't know how to act these days, other than to say whoever the opponent is on 1/7, I hope they lose. Go Irish! (note to those who aren't reading the above with comment - the quote was made sarcastically to a "Is Notre Dame even relevant?" question). Now that we've been through the first two cycles of the standard and invariably rote Notre Dame press approach, e.g. 1) "Is Notre Dame still relevant?", and 2) "Notre Dame is back!!!", if they pull out a win, I'll happily sit through the inevitable 3) "Did Notre Dame sell its soul for national prominence?" story. It's been a long time since I've had a chance to read a legitimate one, since the last time was over the outcry over Ty "Radio" Willingham's firing.1 point

What I do to figure out the maximum range is set the target up at 50 yards. The target you use should be the same size as the intended target. I start by shooting a single shot at 10 yards. I fire then I count and mark my hits on target. Then I move back to 15 yards and shoot again. Then to 20 yards. Once I miss the target with at least one pellet I consider that as the maximum effective range. At least for self defense purposes. Dolomite1 point

Having bought a few RCs over the years, it does not pay to go cheap. Either they will break easy/early or they will not have the power to go most places. Traxxis vehicles are a great buy and all of the parts can be replaced when they break. If you want one but don't want to drop a lot of coin, to checkout craigslist for a used one. Here is one in maryville for a reasonable price. http://knoxville.cra...3433197675.html1 point

I was in 1WTC the morning of September 11. I watched the planes go in and the buildings go down. I spent 9 months at Ground Zero looking at the devastation caused by that attack for 18 hours a day. I don't have to close my eyes to see it now. I can still smell it. I can say for certain that I have not been as safe on an airplane as I was on September 10, 2001 when I flew with a full sized Spyderco clipped to my pocket. If we wanted the airlines to be safe, we wouldn't use a government jobs program to do it. We'd let the airlines provide for their own security and suffer market consequences for lapses. Security theather is okay for pacifying the majority of the population and keeping up the illusion that we care. Just don't confuse it with actually being safe.1 point

I used to fly a LOT for work. Typically 2-3 flights per week. I had to carry tools for work that included small screwdrivers, wire snips, etc. It is very easy to be in a rush to make a flight and forget about the small wire snips in your pocket. Or the Leatherman on your belt. Or the deodorant in a non-TSA-approved size that you had to buy when you ran out. Or the $300 multimeter that TSA refuses to allow on the plane. Theft is theft. And a government search and seizure without a warrant is theft. I'll repeat again that we were safer on airlines BEFORE the Feds got involved in airline security. Before 1968 there were NO hijackings or terrorist attacks on US airliners. Pilots were REQUESTED to carry pistols, and passengers were just asked not to have loaded weapons on the planes. Other countries had hijackings and attacks, but not on US planes. Then the Feds got involved and ensured that passengers and pilots were unarmed, and almost immediately US airliners started to be hijacked and attacked.1 point
You're right; it's time to give up on the Constitution and peaceful ways to effect change...it's far better to grab our "assault" rifles (before Obama confiscates them) and fight another civil war in our streets and among our homes while our children duck and cover....yeah...that's the answer!
Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't. The majority of the country has knowingly and willfully chosen European style socialism. The degradation of individual rights and personal liberty will only continue. While most who are involved in the discussion of secession wish for a peaceful outcome, I don't think anyone really believes it will be nice or easy even if in the extremely unlikely event it were to happen. Creating a new government is by its nature problematic and full of strife. All that being said, what are you willing to acquiesce to avoid bloodshed? How far down the road to slavery are you willing to travel to remain comfortable and safe? Where is your line? That is what this conversation is about for me. When do I stop ignoring the oath I took and begin defending the constitution against the domestic enemies in Washington? At what point am I willing to risk everything for a chance at true freedom? Something none of us in this country has ever actually known.1 point
