I've tried to give this guy a fair shake and have acknowledged in the past that I am sure he has some good instructors at his school who would do very well for themselves were they not saddled with carrying his baggage... but I've got to follow his own lead and make a retraction. My personal opinion is that he's a sensationalist hothead and a liability to the cause of responsible, law abiding gun owners and true Second Amendment patriots. In his retraction video he issued a huge F-You to all of the people who had sent him emails giving him advice (legal advice, as he put it) to take down the original "IMMA SHOOT SOMEONE!" video and clarify his stance. Which he did, of course, but then like a roid-raging asshole with the self-composure of a petulant 12-year old he had to go and tell everyone who had given him an ounce of good advice to go F themselves. He then decried that none of us with the common sense that he lacks are patriots, and we've even got some of his waterboys here telling us that Yeager "gets it" and the rest of us are just going to leave a pile of AR-15's with MOLON LABE engravings on the receivers at the feet of government stooges when they come for our guns. Sorry, but this assclown doesn't speak for me and doesn't speak for my Second Amendment or my sense of patriotism. F YOU, James. Think before you post some bullshit like that on the Internet next time. Paul Revere didn't make his midnight ride with both middle fingers up in the air screaming obscenities at the colonial people, you dick.13 points

I'm more of an Inside the Actor's Studio type of guest. I want to sit around, have coffee and a sensible, non-hostile conversation. The current generation of news shows are all about dickish moderators coming in with a battle plan to put the guest off balance. The only people who survive on shows like that are folks who are immensely quick on their feet, like Shapiro was on Piers Morgan's crapfest last night. And even he got run over more than once by the pompous Brit. If you put me on Piers Morgan, I'm probably taking one for the team and punching him in his throat after I get frustrated with his red herring arguments and constant interruptions. That's not going to be good for gun owners either. I do, however, promise not to rely solely on the F-bomb and threaten to start killing people. If Morgan dies after being punched in the throat, it's simply his fault for being made of lace panties and fairy farts.8 points

People need to work within the framework of reality, though. The reality is that seeing a guy with a rifle slung over his back walking around in public is not normal in the United States and draws unwanted attention. It does nothing to advance the cause and is just more Public Relations suicide by people with good intentions, bent on paving the path to hell for the rest of us.4 points

That was a direct quote from a citizen in the news report and I absolutely, 100% agree with him. This is exactly why I've been saying we need to use wisdom when it comes to the proposed "million gun marches" and other nonsense like that. It all absolutely plays into the hands of the media, and it scares the sheep. To paraphrase a line from Jurassic Park, people have become so worried about whether they can do something, they don't stop and think about whether they should do it. No amount of carrying rifles around in public is going to have a positive influence on the fence sitters who vote and sway them "our" way. It will most certainly polarize them, but it's going to send them right into the camp of voting against rather than for the preservation of the Second Amendment. Those two likely inspired a lot of people to consider tighter restrictions on firearms in Portland, Oregon. Way to go, fucktards.3 points

I got the same, and here's MY reply to his reply: Sir, "Consider any proposal" to keep our children safe? Come on, Congressman. Are you that out of touch with those you represent? All of this hoopla about assault weapons and magazine capacity has absolutely NOTHING to do with keeping our children safe at all. Despite our political difference, I never thought you wee unintelligent, just misguided. Please don't insult my or anyone else's intelligence by pretending that any of this is for any reason other than the first step in circumventing the 2nd Amendment. Why do we allow parking lots at bars, that enables people to drunk drive? Why do we allow commercials on TV that promote eating unhealthy food that promotes obesity in children? Why do we allow movies and video games that are chock full of graphic violence? The list is endless... If you truly want to do something, go after these things, Mr Congressman. But eventually you will run out of things to blame, then what?> Or better yet, how about promoting self responsibility for people instead of blaming something or somebody else? THAT'S a novel concept, isn't it? Leave our 2nd Amendment alone! The American people, and particularly Tennesseans, will draw a line in the sand over this issue. Get on the right side of it. Sincerely, John Alexander "A veteran, whether active duty or guard or reserve, is someone who, at one part in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount up to and including their life." "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963)3 points

So...since you believe James is an asshat it's fine that that state suspend his HCP. Is what he said really all that different than what many have been thinking in the privacy of their own thoughts or, more directly, said by some posters here on TGO? I've read some posts here that seemed to me to be as or at least close to being over the top as what he said....is everybody who thinks that way a "danger to the public"? Should TN suspend their HCPs as well or should that action be reserved only for those you consider them to be "asshats"?2 points
-
There's another point here that we shouldn't lose sight of. You fight in two courts - a court of law and a court of public opinion. James may have a case to eventually get his HCP back. If he wants, he can retain counsel and argue his case. With good counsel, as our law is written, he might win. But, in the court of public opinion, he's a gun grabber's wet dream. I have no doubt that Feinstein, the Brady Center and Bloomberg were absolutely giggly watching this. Because when you put this on the news, it sways opinion. The sheep will look at James carrying on angrily, not making eye contact and scratching at himself like he's strung out, yet threatening to kill people and they'll be swayed. Where they might have been on the fence not particularly caring either way, they'll watch the video and say to themselves, "I don't want that guy having an 'assault rifle'. He's crazy." The minutae of the law may matter down the road, but they don't matter right now. If we turn the public against us, we lose a lot of ground we've gained over the last 20 years. When you strap on a firearm, you either become an asset to society or a liability. Your actions and just as importantly, your words represent all of us. Protecting yourself and your family is right. Tennessee has recognized using a firearm to do it a privilege. Regardless of how you feel about this, strapping on a weapon carries a heavily responsibility. You represent us all. Act and speak wisely.2 points

Yes, blinded by that thing called current case law ;) He makes a video with some heated language in it, from my layperson understanding it does not rise to the level of criminal activity under state law. So unless the speech is illegal, then by it's very nature it's protected speech, right? SCOTUS has repeatedly ruled that governments can not cause a 'chilling effect' on protected speech by using it as the reason to deny a person a right or privilege. That seems to be exactly what TDOS did in this case does it not? Again, my big issue here is with a bad law that grants too much authority within TDOS to revoke permits before due process of law. In every other case where a permit can be denied or revoked, an independent judge and/or jury must hear the evidence, and make a ruling... The is the only example where an un-elected bureaucrat can say "you're permit is revoked because I said so". So, lets play what if... lets say Yeager gets a judge to rule this action unlawful, what happens to said bureaucrat? Do they go to jail? Do they loose their job? Nope, they have nothing to loose by making this call... No skin in the game... The law is too easy to be abused, and needs to be changed. At the very least there needs to be criminal penalties (at least a felony conviction with 5 years in prison) for a TDOS employee who revokes a permit then is later found not to have met the material threat threshold. I know, very radical wanting there to be prison time for somebody who breaks the law :) For the record, I don't agree with Yeager's speech in the video, I just don't think TDOS should have the ability to revoke permits over protected speech, and IMHO it appears to have been politically motivated more so than a real threat to the public at large. It's a huge negative effect on all permit holders... What happens if you make a video with legally protected speech that somebody at TDOS doesn't like? They can just revoke your permit on a whim? Because that appears to have just happened... at least with Kwik (which I'm sure you remember I also complained about) he was walking around protesting with loaded firearms... Here you have a guy talking to a video camera. BTW, I'm not a Yeager fanboy, I had a chance to go to one of his classes a couple of years ago (for free) and turned it down because I think he's a grade a jerk... I just have a problem giving TDOS so much power.2 points

He said he supports a "national gun database", which is registration. He said he doesn't want it made public, but has no issue with the government having access to it. There is absolutely no way I will ever support something like that. I trust the general population more than I trust the government. Other than that he done an awesome job :up:2 points
-
I think I might have some input on this. Everyone keeps talking about the warning signs and no one taking action before it is too late. (cases where there have been warning signs) He made a general threat and it was taken serious so they acted. (I don't believe he was planning anything myself, however one should not make general threats) If they had not acted and say for example the threat actually happened down the road, people would be complaining no action was taken with a threat.. Yea right, tell me where they are going to get AR's to sell.2 points
-
Revoke his permit for protected speech... If his speech in the video was a criminal act charge him (and in the process he will loose his permit while the criminal charges get sorted out).... If the speech is not a criminal act then it's protected, and to use that protected speech as the reason to revoke his permit is a CLEAR violation of the 1st Amendment.2 points
-
If he committed a crime, charge him and his permit would be revoked automatically as part of the criminal charges.... Otherwise it's protected speech (which I think it clearly is), and to revoke his permit based on protected speech is a clear violation of the 1st amendment.2 points
-
I'm sorry, I just have a big problem with yanking a permit over speech. Kwik at least had a track record of irresponsible and provocative action under his belt. Yeager only made nonspecific threats that do not rise to the level of being prosecutable. This is a bad, bad thing. Where does TNDOS draw the line and how do any of us know where that line is?2 points

All in all I thought he did well. I love that he calls him out on exploiting Sandy Hook and sticks to it. I wish he had called him out on how many of the "assault weapons" were used in "gun free zones" when he tried to use the weapon used to be condescending. I wish he had stated that 94.4% of mass shootings have occurred in these gun free zones and asked him why we can't talk about that. I very much wish we would stop allowing the phrase "assault weapons" to be used altogether. I wish he had simply referred to the weapons as rifles, because that is what they are. When you call it like it is it sounds much worse to say they want to ban rifles and the left, or Morgan specifically, would never agree to this terminology because they know the root of their argument lies in emotion, scary labels, and marketing. It would have the added benefit of distracting him from controlling the verbage of the debate. His response to the Reagen letter was pretty good though, "so?" exactly what you need to say, don't take the red herring there.2 points

You can’t do it. You can’t do it when you come right out and make the threats and you can’t do it when you imply violence. It’s not freedom of speech; its threats. I doubt Yeager will be charged with anything, but this is exactly what we don’t need, and posting those kinds of videos on the internet, he is exactly who the current administration wants to ban from being able to buy a gun. I have never agreed with Yeager on anything. But I feel the same level of frustration with the threats coming from the current administration. But you can’t counter with threats of violence.2 points

No one knows what will be passed yet or even what will be proposed. Before you start looking for 10 round mags, I'd wait to see what Washington does. No need to panic yet. This is far from being a done deal. And the longer it all drags on the harder it will be to pass anything. In the meantime, if you want to do something about magazines, I suggest you put your ammunition, firearms and magazines down and call, write and email your representatives on the national and state level and express your opinion about gun control. IF your representatives are having public meetings in your area, go to those meetings and express your views in a civil and diplomatic way. Put the best face you can on our cause.2 points

This is the letter I sent to my State Lawmakers and the Governor. I hope and suggest you do the same. Find their email addresses at this link http://www.capitol.tn.gov/legislators/ "Dear Governor Haslem, The Second Amendment is under ATTACK. This nation NEEDS the leadership of Tennessee. Tennesseans need your outspoken support of the Second Amendment. As a state, we can set a model for other states to fallow. I urge you to encourage our State Lawmakers to enact legislation that clearly states, "under no uncertain terms will the State of Tennessee allow the Federal Government to infringe on the Constitution and the accompanying Bill of Rights that this State agreed to in 1796." We should not recognize or attempt to enforce any unconstitutional laws that infringe on the second amendment. Gun control is the easiest scapegoat to slaughter in an attempt to settle the fragile emotions of Americans. The repercussions of such legislation will be far reaching and not easy to undo. To strip the Bill of Rights and weaken the ability of our citizens to protect this Nation is ill-advised. We are your servants and you were elected to be ours. I ask you to represent our interest and take a stand with the second amendment. Someone needs to remind this nation what the second amendment is about and that it does not allude to hunting or shooting sports. Tennessee can be this someone. Other States will fallow our lead."2 points

I keep a gun in my car. I lock my car when I get out. I have firearms in my house. I lock my doors when I leave. Getting my guns would require forcible entry and a criminal act. But apparently if the level of force doesn’t rise to that of breaking into a safe…. You think I’m a criminal. Sorry I disagree. Absolutely you value your guns more than I do. I would rather my gun was stolen than my laptop; costs less and is easier to replace. You don’t know that. If I’m going to kill someone, I think it reasonable to assume I could make them open their safe. We are in the mess we are in now because a mentally ill monster decided to kill a bunch of kids.2 points

This "administration" should have more respect for their predecessors. From George Washington's address to the second session of Congress: "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty, teeth and keystone under independence. The church, the plow, the prairie wagon and citizens' firearms are indelibly related. From the hour the pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurrences and tendencies prove that, to ensure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable. Every corner of this land knows firearms, and more than 99 and 99/100 percent of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil influence. They deserve a place of honor with all that's good. When firearms go, all goes. We need them every hour."1 point

Mav, I have not accused Glock of misrepresenting anything. Quite the opposite, I said unless someone can provide a link I have never seen anyone from Glock claim their guns were manufactured here. I said the stampings mean nothing to me, they are required by the Federal law and have nothing to do with where the guns are manufactured. I am not reaching or trying to speculate on anything. In several threads where being made in America is important to a buyer, it has been stated as fact here that Glock are made in America. I suspect its BS and not fair to the buyer or to our American manufactures; but I do not know that for sure. Its important to me where a gun is made. If its important to other people I think its fair to get this questioned answered, don't you? If someone posts a fact on here about a gun that is wrong people are all over it. I know that many have posted they couldn't care less where their guns or anything else is made; that's fine, this won't be important to them.1 point
