I was making a quick run to the store today. I am a stay at home dad, so it means I had my 2 little ones with me. My daughter (2yo) was using an IPad to trace her ABC's. My son (1yo) was playing a matching game on my phone. They both were being very good and causing no problems at all. A lady, probably in her 40's, felt the need to give me a parenting lesson right there in the produce section. She let me know that sticking them in front of an electronic device was no better than not parenting at all. She continued to tell me that my style of parenting is what is wrong with this world. She also stated that if this is how I parent that my kid would be better off in a single parent home. That was when I lost it and yelled, that is the first time I lost my cool in front of my kids. I never swore at her and never called her names, i just told her that my kids are happy, healthy, and well taken care of and that she needed to mind her own buisness. I should have stopped there, but I did not. I continued to tell her that my kids have more manners than she does an I would not be surprised if they were smarter than her. As she stood there in shock, I told my kids to say good bye and started to push the cart away. Both my kids said good bye and waved. What happened next surprised me, 5-6 moms in the area started clapping, apparently they even heard what she said to me. I get comments about my parenting all the time from strangers all the time. I don't understand why people feel the need to give dads advice. I have seen moms blow cigarette smoke in a kids face without a peep from anyone, but tell me that I need to make sure that my kids are wearing hats even though it is 60+ degrees out. All the advice is followed by them telling my kids that it is ok that daddy didn't know.

  I agree. It's pretty much impossible NOT to tailgate these days because the second I leave a decent gap between the car in front of me some a$$hole decides to cut in between us.

(From an e-mail)   I was in my neighborhood restaurant this morning and was seated behind a group of jubilant individuals celebrating the coming implementation of the health care bill. I could not finish my breakfast. This is what ensued:    They were a diverse group of several races and both sexes. I heard the young man exclaim, “Isn’t Obama like Jesus Christ? I mean, after all, he is healing the sick.” The young woman enthusiastically proclaimed, “Yeah, and he does it for free. I cannot believe anyone would think that a free market would work for health care. Another said, ‘The stupid Republicans want us all to starve to death so they can inherit all of the power. Obama should be made a Saint for what he did for those of us less fortunate.” At this, I had more than enough.I arose from my seat, mustering all the restraint I could find, and approached their table. “Please excuse me; may I impose upon you for one moment?”  They smiled and welcomed me to the conversation. I stood at the end of their table, smiled as best I could and began an experiment.    “I would like to give one of you my house. It will cost you no money and I will pay all of the expenses and taxes for as long as you live there. Anyone interested?” They looked at each other in astonishment. “Why would you do something like that?” asked a young man, “There isn’t anything for free in this world.” They began to laugh at me, as they did not realize this man had just made my point. “I am serious, I will give you my house for free, no money what so ever. Anyone interested?” In unison, a resounding “Hell Yeah” fills the room.    “Since there are too many of you, I will have to make a choice as to who receives this money-free bargain.” I noticed an elderly couple was paying attention to the spectacle unfolding before their eyes, the old man shaking his head in apparent disgust. “I tell you what; I will give it to the one of you most willing to obey my rules.” Again, they looked at one another, an expression of bewilderment on their faces. The perky young woman asked, “What are the rules?” I smiled and said, “I don’t know. I have not yet defined them. However, it is a free home that I offer you.” They giggled amongst themselves, the youngest of which said, “What an old coot. He must be crazy to give away his home. Go take your meds, old man.” I smiled and leaned into the table a bit further.  “I am serious, this is a legitimate offer.”    They gaped at me for a moment.    “I’ll take it you old fool. Where are the keys?” boasted the youngest among them. “Then I presume you accept ALL of my terms then?” I asked. The elderly couple seemed amused and entertained as they watched from the privacy of their table. “Oh hell yeah! Where do I sign up?” I took a napkin and wrote, “I give this man my home, without the burden of financial obligation, so long as he accepts and abides by the terms that I shall set forth upon consummation of this transaction.” I signed it and handed it to the young man who eagerly scratched out his signature. “Where are the keys to my new house?” he asked in a mocking tone of voice.  All eyes were upon us as I stepped back from the table, pulling the keys from pocket and dangling them before the excited new homeowner. “Now that we have entered into this binding contract, witnessed by all of your friends, I have decided upon the conditions you are obligated to adhere from this point forward. You may only live in the house for one hour a day. You will not use anything inside of the home. You will obey me without question or resistance. I expect complete loyalty and admiration for this gift I bestow upon you. You will accept my commands and wishes with enthusiasm, no matter the nature. Your morals and principles shall be as mine. You will vote as I do, think as I do and do it with blind faith. These are my terms. Here are your keys.” I reached the keys forward and the young man looked at me dumbfounded. “Are you out of your mind? Who would ever agree to those ridiculous terms?” the young man appeared irritated. “You did when you signed this contract before reading it, understanding it and with the full knowledge that I would provide my conditions only after you committed to the agreement.” The elderly man chuckled as his wife tried to restrain him. I was looking at a now silenced and bewildered group of people. “You can shove that stupid deal up your a** old man, I want no part of it” exclaimed the now infuriated young man. 'You have committed to the contract, as witnessed by all of your friends; you cannot get out of the deal unless I agree to it. I do not intend to let you free now that I have you ensnared. I am the power you agreed to. I am the one you blindly and without thought chose to enslave yourself to. In short, I am your Master.” At this, the table of celebrating individuals became a unified group against the unfairness of the deal. After a few moments of unrepeatable comments and slurs, I revealed my true intent. “What I did to you is what this administration and congress did to you with the health care legislation. I easily suckered you in and then revealed the real cost of the bargain. Your folly was in the belief that you can have something you did not earn; that you are not entitled to; that you willingly allowed someone else to think for you. Your failure to research, study and inform yourself permitted reason to escape you. You have entered into a trap from which you cannot flee. Your only chance of freedom is if your new Master gives it to you. A freedom that is given can also be taken away; therefore, it is not freedom.” With that, I tore up the napkin and placed it before the astonished young man. “This is the nature of your new health care legislation.” I turned away to leave these few in thought and contemplation and was surprised by applause. The elderly gentleman, who was clearly entertained, shook my hand enthusiastically and said, “Thank you Sir, these kids don’t understand Liberty.” He refused to allow me to pay my bill as he said, “You earned this one, it is an honor to pick up the tab.” I shook his hand in thanks, leaving the restaurant somewhat humbled, and sensing a glimmer of hope for my beloved country. Use reason.    Remember, four boxes keep us free: the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box.

Chicago isn't all that great.  With a police force known as corrupt, thieves and bullies, the 2A is really a danger to his officers, not public safety.

There is a very specific reason that some of us who run privately held companies choose to do so - sometimes despite the seeming siren song of going public or raising a bunch of capital through a VC firm. That reason is the exact polar opposite of the quoted post. We make that decision so that we keep our souls. We have a conscience and can act on it. We can speak when it matters and act when it matters. This will no doubt be an expensive decision for Magpul. They are no doubt getting all kind of pressure to recant. Their response is exactly why this stuff matters. There are a lot of things in life that seem important and a few things that really are. As a business owner, you've got to be able to like what you see staring back at you when you look in the mirror in the morning. I applaud them and will support them until the day the good Lord calls me home.

I disagree with his assessment. Part of the liberal agenda - the part at which they have been extremely successful - is to control the language or the debate. They have introduced political correctness into our way of thinking so that people are more likely to stay silent than to say something that might offend the one female minority dwarf with a skin condition living in the mountains of Tibet. What we need to do is to take back our right to say what is right even if it offends someone. What I am suggesting is that we need to be ten times more informed on the subject than the most (mis)informed anti-gun person. If enough us knew enough to counter the top ten arguments successfully they would eventually stop making those arguments to us. Eventually the only people that would listen are the ones, like them, that will never be convinced no matter how soundly you trounce their arguments. In other words, we need to control the debate. We need to be the ones on the side with all the facts and everyone needs to know it.  Sun Tzu said to know your enemy, and he was right. When I first really got into guns I of course was confronted with the barrage of misinformation about guns, gun owners, statistics on shooting yourself while in the shower, and all the other crazy nonsense by anti-gunners. But at that time I naively believed that all of the information they were spewing couldn't be wrong. I figured they weaved their lies with just enough truth to give their arguments real world credibility. So I started doing research because I was curious how much of what they were saying was true and how much of it was bunk. My research surprised me. It's all bunk. All the top arguments used by anti-gunners are either complete made-up garbage or based on extremely poorly conducted "studies" like the Kellerman one that were debunked before the ink was dry but still are repeated by a gun-hating media daily.  So if you haven't, do your research. Try to debunk both the pro-gun and anti-gun arguments. You will find one is much easier than the other which gives us a huge strategic advantage in controlling the message. Of course we'll always be fighting an anti-gun media but if we can get enough folks with a voice to destroy Piers Morgan and others in these debates maybe we can sway some of those that are on the fence. And remember, it's the fence-sitters we are trying to convince, not the die hard Sarah Bradys of the world. Folks like her know the truth but spout lies by choice and will never be anything but 100% opposed to our rights. So don't waste your time trying to convince them. Maybe silence them. That's just as good if you think about it. 

People need to understand technology is here to stay and can be a great asset when raising kids. Our son was sat down in front of a computer in 1995, when he was 3, and I want to think it helped him. Kids are generally interested in technology so if it can be used to keep them learning I welcome it.   The problem is when parents use technology as a babysitter. That is when the kids learn their morals and values that are, in most cases, skewed.   Dolomite

  You're making the assumption they are doing this for PR.  The best PR they've ever done is create a product that every AR owner in America, every LEO who has a duty rifle, every Marine/Air Force, Army and Navy servicemember wants in their weapon; the Pmag.    I don't think they need to worry about PR.  This is about something bigger.  If this law is passed then customers in their own state of operation will be cut off.  No, this probably won't affect their sales significantly, but what does that say about them if they continue to operate in an environment which bans the sale of their product, yet profits from that very product.  This one business pumps millions into an economy with elected officials who are trying to snuff them out.  Why wait around for that to happen.  Why not move to an economy where the state is supportive of their business, and representatives from that very state will go to Washington DC and fight for their right to continue to exist.    You give these guys little credit with your assumptions.  This isn't about image, this is about rights.

According to their own statements, both issued to the public at large and to the CO state government, they believe otherwise. They do believe that the general consumer of heir products would take their dollars elsewhere if they stayed put. I think we view their product as less of a niche product than it is because we are a part of that niche demographic. The vast majority of the population has no use for a 30 round polymer magazine for the AR platform. We do. The vast majority of the population is not paying such close attention to the actions of the companies in the firearms and accessories manufacturing business in relation to the various attacks on the 2A. We are. Magpul is making the correct business decision based not on the short term costs of moving a facility, but on the long term costs of alienating their consumer base. As an example, Smith & Wesson is not the same company now as it was prior to its 2000 memorandum of understanding with the Clinton administration. They sold us down the river and gun owners told them to stuff it. They went bankrupt and had to sell the entire company to new owners. Magpul knows that if they pull the same sort of crap, the same thing will happen to them.

From what I'm reading, he didn't chase after the guy to shoot him, he followed him to get his property back and/or get a good description for law enforcement.  He had every right to do so.  The thief didn't like being followed, so he attacked the HCP holder with lethal force.  It might not have been the smartests course of action, but the HCP holder is 100% in the right.  His self defense claim was based on the second attack, not the initial robbery, which was indeed over and no longer presented a threat. 

I just had a very good phone conversation with Rep. Lamberth who is sponsoring the House bill to close public access to the HCP records.  He called me after I sent an email to Lt. Gov Ramsey voicing my disapproval of him opposing the sealing of the records. I copied Sen. Lamberth as well as my local Senator and Representative.  I was very impressed.  He was very open with what he would like to get done with the bill and it was very refreshing to speak with a Representative so in lockstep with where my personal opinions are on the matter. I will not go into everything that we talked about, but he did ask for everyone to write their representatives and senators asking for support of this bill.  He said the bill is not posted yet, but will be soon.  I can tell you that he wants 100% privacy with this information and that it would only be available to law enforcement or through a court order for legitimate reasons.  I hope he gets support from the rest of the legislature on this. He said all of our letters really make a difference, so keep them coming.  

I can only look at this as a positive for Magpul.   They can now move from a state with Corporate Taxes (and state income tax) to a State with No Corporate Taxes & No State Income Tax (or at the very least -- heavy tax breaks/incentives for moving to another state)   This could actually be an incredibly PROFITABLE move for them :)    My guess -- Magpul probably started looking at other areas/states when the Aurora Shooting took place .... Any smart business owner/board would.  Fast forward to the CT Shooting, and that plan was likely put in overdrive -- especially with Dem support growing in CO.    They've had a plan in the works for quite a while -- I can almost guarantee it :)

I don't get the argument where some things still need to be open.  To whom?  Law enforcement can already search and find this information out.  Who else needs access to this information. If you are part of a trial and it is pertinent, sure, law enforcement should be able to give the status, but to say that we should allow for a one time check from any request is not acceptable to me.  Where is my right to privacy in all of this.  All this does is allow an easy opening for employers and others to do an at will search which I don't think is right.  If they have a warrant for it, or if it is part of normal law enforcement duties, ok, but Jim Bob calling to see if I have a permit is not acceptable.   I guess one more letter has to be sent.

I think as long as we talk to them with respect and try not to argue they might listen. Even though we do take it personally we cannot let our emotion enter into the conversation otherwise we have lost.   At the stable were my wife boards her horse there is a women who is LIBERAL. She speaks in liberal speak, is a teacher and a PETA member as well as a vegitarian. A few months ago I jokingly told my wife I am going to get her to shoot a gun. When I started talking to her about Sandy Hook and guns she gave me a icky look saying "I don't udnerstand how anyone could own a gun". She works as a school teacher and said she would never carry a gun in a school.   My wife and I have talked to her a few times over the last month about the benefits of guns in protecting people. I never got loud and remained calm. My wife has even showed the lady the gun my wife carries. And I always asked the lady when she wanted to go shooting. Well a few days ago she said to let her know when we could go shooting. I honestly thought she would have never considered it but now we just need to set a date for my wife and I to take the lady shooting.   My next goal is to convince her she needs a HCP even if she never plans on owning or carrying a gun.   And this isn't the first. We have a friend who loved or loves Obama. Pretty liberal leaning and never really was a gun person even though her family is. We invited her over for a day of shooting with several members here. She was able to shoot a bunch of different guns. She has since gotten her HCP and carries almost every day. I am not sure I can convert her from being an Obama lover but at least she is a gun owner.   I think we are trying to convert them to our way of thinking too quickly. Getting loud and trying to argue them into submission only forces them to shut down and not listen, the same way we do.   Dolomite

Agree 1000%. I don't like being treated like a criminal unless I'm acting like one. Yea, it's past time for us to decriminalize acting in accordance with the Constitution of the United States of America. Waaaaaay past time. No, but one has to wonder why continue to frequent such a crap hole. And as you know, we have a long history of changing our behavior based on the opinions of those other forums that are so wonderful they get about 10% of our viewership so please feel free to enlighten us. We're all ears.

I thought that some day, in the far distant future, things like this would be happening. What's been going on this past month with these proposed laws have me looking at things very differently. I no longer believe that liberal Democrats are simply misguided folks with differing ideology; to me they are fascists that will not be satisfied until I bend to their ideology, and they will legislate me out of my rights until I am under their thumb. I hope these states pass these laws in their full, unconstitutional form. I think the backlash would give them a lesson about how many Americans reject their ideology.

  Ramsey is from Blountville up in the Tri-Cities area.  Blount Co is just south of Knoxville/Knox County.  Either way, trying to dethrone a Republican in East Tennesse is not an easy task but he needs to go.

  Some people just can't be allowed in public. I sincerely wish I could have been there to give this person a talking to. I've been bald 3 times from chemo and understand that some people just can't seem to keep their mouths shut and must make stupid comments to make themselves feel better when conforted with something out of the norm. Unlike your friend though, my surgical scars are on my stomach and chest, and were almost always covered during treatment. I guess the worst comments I got were from insentive family and friends. Almost have to forgive and overlook them, but for a person out in a public area to comment like that is just not to be understood.

You won't change their mind.  The only thing you can do is counter their emotion with logic, which will only make them look crazier and cause them to act rabidly, which will hopefully open up the eyes of the sheep.

Fame, people want a little piece of it.. It had nothing to do with him being their hero   Heroes are people like the small town cop from BFE TN that barely makes enough money to feed his family and still goes to work on the weekends for free just to make sure that people have someone to call during an emergency. I have already been sending emails to Corker about this. I have also posted on his facebook page. He does a lot I don't like, but when it comes to bringing business to Chattanooga this guy has a stellar track record. If you want to find the thread on fb let me know. It would be nice to drive as much public attention as possible to this so they have to notice or respond. Even if we don't get Magpul it would be nice to expose our elected leaders to the possibility of bringing any of these businesses here, as well as showing them how motivated we can be as a group.

I have shot lots of PRVI in several calibers,  though never in 7.62x54r.  It all shot well and went where I aimed it.   Might be too good for a nasty old Mosin.  I never have shot anything but crusty old surplus ammo out of mine.
