Dear brother and sister opiners; i feel i have lost my "implacable calm" in this issue. I simply cant stand this anymore.  I have a burning need to speak to what i think this case is really about.   Brothers and sisters; this case aint about the possibly wrongful and tragic shooting of a teenager; it's about political opportunism of the worst kind in about a 50/50 carpetbagger/"delightful rustic" state that is of great importance to both political parties.    To my fellow posters who will be agast and "outraged" at this callous statement; please know that im ok with that.  This is a place of opinions and discussion; that means that some aint gonna like the opinions posted; especially this one.  Havin said that, this is my "Trayvon-George" manifesto and my mind's made up.  For once, i aint gonna argue about it.  I'm like Pilate; ive called for the "wash bowl".  I find no fault in zimmerman and think that if trayvon would have minded his own business he would be alive today to continue his thuggish ways.  The big lesson for everybody is that if everybody had have minded their business and acted sensibly, this tragedy, now marketed as a political opportunity would have never happened.    Erck did a good job with the objective facts of this case.  I'm gonna talk about the political implications of this case.   I contend that the extremely white politico carpetbaggers (...and some good ole boy opportunists...) from both up north and down south, both democrat and republican, could care less about "justice for trayvon", george zimmerman, the people of the state of florida, or anyone else in this case.  They care about walking a political titerope between about a 50/50 democrat/republican population and veer on the side that needs "reassuring" to make sure they save their stinkin hides; and thus keeping their stinkin jobs in tact.  They like bein in power, and they like it well enough to use the powers of their positions in unjust ways to keep themselves in power.  They are bold enough to take the chance of using the courts and their position(s) in unjust, even criminal, ways to perpetrate this disgraceful travesty of justice.  They are doin it now, i think, because they know that the chances of federal prosecution for any misdeeds by the judiciary or the prosecutors in this case will never be brought.  It's all about politics, nothing else. Politics in the state of florida first, and red meat for the blue states and "low information children" on a national level next.   This thing aint about justice for all; its about buying votes and support in upcomming elections.   The fall out, of course, is the murdering of the rule of law and justice.  That's what the governor has done and exactly what the prosecuting attorney and judge(s) are doing.  This territory of florida is polarized black and white with the "innocent"/"guilty" thing split right down party lines; and the political class knows it.  As i remember, the black/white population ratio in samford is about 25/75 with a 15/85 ratio in the county; but the general population of florida (...political...) is in the 50/50 range.  That's why the elections are so hot in florida.  Both parties have to go after votes on both sides of the political spectrum; and that's exactly what is goin on here.    The sad fact of this case is that one 18 year old aint gonna get any older and one little guy tryin to take care of his neighborhood have had their lives ended, or changed for the worst.  The people of florida will become more cynical than the already are due the twisting of the law and the use of courts to satisfy political purposes, the citizens of this community (...and others...) will retreat further behind their security fences and be even more afraid of their neighbors they dont know, the "tribalism" this whole dammed thing brings out in people will become stronger, and the rule of law and ethics in elected officials will become less (...if that's possible...).   In the end, nobody is gonna win no matter what happens, and there will damn sure be no justice for anybody in this sorry case.   The political class, in their stinkin lust for votes and pantering to the "low information children" has seen to it.   That's how i see this whole sad, sorry, disgraceful spectacle.  It aint about justice, its about tribal warfare and political calculations.   leroy

What this state doesn't need any more of are politicians who wouldn't know an unalienable right if it crawled into bed with them and bit them in the ass.   Haslam, Ramsey, Harwell and more than I have time to name are worthless politicians and unworthy to be in any elected office...these people make me sick to my stomach that I ever once identified myself as a Republican.

Sorry, no dice. There is a world of difference from "can't" and "won't". To put it into perspective gays 'can't' join under the old rules. Christian children 'won't' under the new. Though I suspect its more to do with the parents than the children. This is the same crowd who had some not very cristianly things to say about that Muslim that wanted his pig farming neighbor shut down because it offended his religion right? So if your Muslim and something offends you, tough $hit but if your cristian and something offends you, then I should care? Got it.

most do not care if you find homosexuality repugnant. People do care when because of your personal feelings you exclude an entire group of people from participating as part of our society.  Why shouldn't homosexuals be outspoken about their rights being violated.  Why shouldn't homosexuals be outspoken about being excluded from a group that should have nothing to do with sex on the sole basis of their sexual orientation.  No one is forcing you to like it but you will have to put up with it because it is happening.      As it pertains to the BSA, the way I see it is that those opposed to this have 3 basic choices.  Fight to change it back which is your right to do, accept that it is happening whether you like it or not and move on, or form your own non secular scouting organization.    Lets not forget that the majority of the BSA voting membership approved this change

Just a word to the wise... it's worth having a conversation with your spouse about things that are appropriate to put in the disposal, and things aren't appropriate.   Potato peels from the better part of a whole bag of potatoes - not appropriate.

There have been gay scouts as long as there has been scouting is my guess.   I don't think this will affect much of anything.  But sooner or later there are going to be gay adult leaders openly involved.  And that must be why allowing openly gay scouting ever came to a vote.

I went to the Chattanooga RK show last weekend.  There was some ammo but nothing like there was a year ago.  On Saturday afternoon I saw one table with about a dozen 525 .22LR boxes for $75 each.  On Sunday afternoon the same greedy bastard still had the same amount of 525 .22LR boxes marked down to $65.  Unless he sold any in the last hour he went home with what he came with.

I think that we should all be able to walk around with an ounce of weed and a high capacity mag.

We are a country of and need immigrants.   The problem is that those who break our laws by coming here; break our laws by staying here and break our laws by working here aren't here to immigrate; they are here to simply escape the cesspool in their own country; work and send their money back "home". They do nothing to integrate themselves into American society; rather, the seek to make America conform to them.   I realize I'm painting with a broad brush and there area always exceptions but that's how I see things.

Hey you guys won, I'm just pointing out the consequences of that victory. You can argue semantics & split hairs all day long, but the fact is that the BSA's majority of supporters, leadership & membership pool are of the Christian faith. It's no secret to anyone that homosexuality is a "sin" in Christianity (as well as in most other major religions) & the two lifestyles simply are not compatible, no matter how "unfair" you think that it was for the BSA to have banned openly gay homosexuals from participating. Now that the BSA is yours, do with it what ever you want, we (those of us who actually participated in Scouting prior to this decision) don't care anymore, we are just sad to see everything that Scouting once stood for destroyed.

  Law applies to schools also. Permit holding faculty, staff, and students may keep their loaded heaters in vehicle, under terms of the statute.   But unless case law proves otherwise, they can be fired or expelled for it too. Just as they could under the already existing statute.   I thought everybody understood that to still be the situation. There is no mention in the statute of any particular behavior required by employers whatsoever, only a couple of free passes on liability.   - OS

Who is denying the ability of the BSA to freely associate?  They caved...pure and simple...that choice was theirs and theirs alone.   I find homosexual acts repugnant.  I don't find a person repugnant just because he or she happens to be a homosexual so long as he/she maintains appropriate public decorum and so long as he/she treats me with the same respect and courtesy they expect of me.   There appear to be quite a lot of people with "religious convictions" who will go outright apoplectic over a homosexual but their BP won't even rise a point about such people as adulterers, alcoholics, gluttons, or the sexually promiscuous (as long as it's "normal" sex of course). I find that inconsistency in dealing with people repugnant too.

I don't like the idea of having anything in the safe. The amount of movement and vibration, all it takes is one gun moving in there to make you very sad when you open the door. Other than that... they're not fun to move! I don't know you but I'd recommend looking on Craigslist for a few guys to handle moving it on to the trailer for you and more when you get to your destination.

i had the same dilemma looking for a budget "home defense" shotgun and after alot of research i chose the Maverick 88 12g and im very happy with it a year later, im still toying with the idea of putting a collapsable stock and pistol grip on it, but that was one of the deciding factors initially for me because of the safety setup .. but after having put a few hundred rounds through it im very impressed with the fit finish and functuionality of the gun ... it doesnt feel like a "knock off" of anything honestly, or at least to me it just feels like a rock solid pump shotgun 

I've seen his forum on BF but never paid too much attention. This year has been all about TN makers for me. Hoping to score Graham and Stout at the show. Fitz will be a bit harder to score as he tends to disappear for long periods. Then after my TN phase is done, I'll be picking up a Laconico from Ray himself at G5 this year.

Haha they're ammo prices are dumb. If anything they're playing into the whole jacking the prices up scheme. $70 for 555rds of .22lr. I will say that some of the glocks were reasonably priced and they had a ton of ar and ak mags.

I am new here but not new to reloading. The NRA posted loads for the Garand years ago and it is still relevant. Also, if you look at the CMP forum you will find a lot of information. For me, I would load IMR4895 & H4895 with a 150 grain fmj. The load would depend on whether you are using LC brass or commercial. I can lookm it up for you, but it is easy to find. http://masterpostemple.bravepages.com/M1load.htm  You should obey these loads to avoid damaging the op rod. Just my opinion

I spent mad dough on a milled Arsenal.   What I didn't understand was that at the height of the panic, people were dropping 1K+ on Century built guns while the Arsenal SAM7R-61 was available the whole time for around $1300.   I bought mine for $1200 shipping. Worth every dime to me. :-)

Agree. That's where the judiciary (theoretically) comes in as a check on the legislative. Supreme Court judge changes on this court could have an immense impact on our future should any sitting judges retire or die during the remainder of Obama's second term. I fear we are in a precarious position on both fronts.

It needs 66 votes. Don't think even this senate has enough support. Another reason though why the 2014 elections are so important.
