I just want to extend a warm thank you to Spots and his father for having me and my mom up to visit last Saturday. We got to do some shooting, blow up some tannerite and most importantly of all, they were both gracious enough to open up their homes to us and show us around and answer all our questions. We got to see the forge, the wood shop, Spot's parents house, the whole nine yards. The setup that they have out there is so absolutely awesome, they truly have all they need right there on their land. Spots dad is an amazing guy, even if he doesn't seem to think there's anything amazing about building a beautiful cabin with your own two hands using trees you've felled for yourself, there is. In all the buildings we visited you could quite literally see the family history in all the antiques floating about here and there, many still functional. Anyway, if you ever get the chance to go see Spots, take it. You will not find a better host and all around great guy to kill a few hours with. We were only planning on staying until about 2:00-3:00 and needed up leaving around 5:30 after loosing track of time. Thank you again Spots, we really did have an absolutely fantastic time hanging out with you, and mom is still going on about seeing Steve losing his head. I can't wait until I can get back up there and see you all again.2 points

Guys finds lamp with genie in it, genie says he can have one wish. Guy: I have to go to Hawaii on biz all the time and I'm terrified of flying. I want a bridge all the way over there so I can drive it. Genie: C'mon man, that's quite a damn wish, can't you think of something a bit more reasonable? Guy: Okay, well, I'd like to truly understand my wife. Genie: How many lanes you want on that bridge? - OS2 points

Perhaps you could help by responding to our questions instead of ignoring us. Several of us have asked you to back up your comments because they don't appear to be factual but you choose to ignore us. When you continue to ignore the facts that Andrew presents it makes me question whether or not you want to engage in a healthy debate or push your own agenda.2 points

I'm not calling for punishment or retribution, however, I do think people really need to look at these events and consider if that is really an acceptable course of action by the LEOs. I will tell you, if they knocked on my door and pull me out of my own home with a gun in my face, I would be causing a ruckus over it. I understand that some may consider the circumstances of the man hunt extreme or unique and that the actions of suspect were completely heinous, but that still does excuse the fact that threatened all if those residents with deadly force, entered there homes with force, and had absolutely nothing to show for it. Again, I'm not calling for the punishment of the officers, but I do think this situation requires people to really think about how you you feel had you been in a similar circumstance. Knowing that you had done absolutely nothing wrong, had played no roll in the events, yet you end up with a gun stuck in your face while some dudes rumage through your shit. If you find these events acceptable, would you find it equaly acceptable if your house gets "swatted" while looking for a drug dealer in your neighborhood? Oh, and by the way, they had the wrong address.2 points

"How hard is this"? Perhaps you've missed the debate where it is proposed that not explaining what happened can lead the police to suspect you, and being human, they then don't look seriously into other possible suspects since they already have the right guy, at least in their mind?1 point

Yes and no, but technically more incorrect than not, I'd opine. It's not lawful for a state to require it, because they ruled a state can't require anything more than the federal form called for in the National Voter Registration Act. They didn't rule that requiring it would be unconstitutional period, like if the Act were amended to require that. Funny how states are allowed to make all kinds of additional restrictive firearms laws beyond the federal ones, though, isn't it? - OS1 point

They're trying to make an example of him but if the NRA gets involved, and they probably will, this will more than likely be thrown out BUT we'll just have to wait and see. I say here-here for the young man for doing nothing wrong except being a patriot.1 point

Everyone that can legally own one needs a gun. I say good for him. I hope he gets one, shoots it and enjoys shooting it and has some level of personal protection or a maybe even a new hobby. Hell I hope someone at the NRA saw this, contacts him and offers him a free gun and free training. I hope he then convinces them ho bags they should try it, they like it, feel safer, don't have to hide under the bed from strange noises and it goes public. There are a lot of whackos that watch this chit, believe it's real, and are influenced by what they say/do. It could be advantageous for our side. They think, wow the freakshows on tv i love so much have guns and aren't anti gun, maybe guns ain't so bad. As ludicrous as it is these people drive the beliefs of ignorant voters that repeatedly f us all in elections.1 point

Well, I would disagree. I recall several articles discussing this issue, and I am virtually certain at least one was written by Ayoob stressing the importance of keeping defensive weapons as close to factory spec as possible for that particular make and model due to cases where these alterations were presented as evidence against someone in a defensive shooting. I am confident this is one ofmthe reasons most law enforcement agencies do not allow duty weapons to be modified internally. I also know for absolute certainty that it is common practice for the majority of crime labs to look over any weapon submitted to them to see if it was altered from the factory specs. I personally would rather not have to explain why I modified my weapon from factory spec and hope that a jury of potentially gun-ignorant people would consider it proof that I was itching to kill someone with my modified "weapon of war". EDIT: here is a commentary that gets to my point and references Mr. Ayoob: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/02/travis-leibold/why-farago-and-you-shouldnt-modify-his-self-defense-guns-trigger/ EDIT 2: Here is another article that discusses the same issue: http://www.armedcitizensnetwork.org/choosing-self-defense-guns1 point

Exigent cirmcumstances have never been applied on an entire city before, let alone just random houses, at least not since 1776. Our Constitutional protections are not null & void just because a bad person does some (granted very) bad things somewhere in the general area. And no I didn't see the officers "asking permission" for anything, I saw them knock on homeowners doors, when it was answered, immediately reach in & snatch the homeowners with one hand, stick their sidearm in the homeowners faces and then jerk the homeowners outside, ordering them to then go to other awaiting officers to be individually searched while other officers searched inside of their homes. What would I like to see happen to those officers? I'd like them to start asking people if "they'd like fries with that?" Because they certainly should not be law enforcement officers, at least not here in the United States of America.1 point

I am a whitewater kayaker and we camp whenever we paddle. NO CELL PHONES! I like it! I hate it when I am sitting around a campfire and some Schmuck pulls out a cell phone or other electronic brain sucking device. The campfire is a tradition and electronic light boxes are the devil. I make it a point now to tell everyone that if they want to sit around my campfire, they will have to leave their "light box" behind. A campfire is for people to talk to each other, express ideas, tell stories, tell jokes. When people get to the point when they cannot do without their "light boxes" then we are doomed. DOOMED I SAY! :pleased:1 point

This bullshit again?????? Here you go: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/62043-dhs-purchases-2700-light-armored-tanks/ and to save you some time (even though he went through and edited his article, the numbers haven't changed): http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/03/robert-farago/the-truth-about-the-dhs-mraps/ Its not 2700 vics. And it's not 1.6 Billion rounds of ammunition. That was cleared up. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/04/26/reps-challenge-dhs-ammo-buys-say-agency-using-1000-more-rounds-per-person-than/ 1.3k-ish per person? I laugh at that. Sounds like a good weekend or a pistol course or two. 350 for the Army? Sounds about right.....and thats fucking embarrassing. The only reason I'm able to shoot as much as I can is that I'm in Afghanistan.....and I'm still having trouble sourcing 9mm. 9mm in Garrison is even worse. Who falls under DHS for this training/duty ammo? CBP, ICE, Air Marshals, USSS, FLETC, Coast Guard, INS, etc. There are a lot of agencies who need to train. Don't cry foul when they ask for ammo . Its also an IDIQ contract, not a purchase order. Also, this "retired" Captain....what's his deal? I would love, love, love to read his OER's. Just reading the last entry on his bio makes me wonder: http://combatsoldier.wordpress.com/about/ He was NOT in the 82nd.1 point

20 years ago I would be in the same frame of mind. Now, I'm 60 years old, severe arthritis in left wrist from breaking it 20 years ago, worn out knee that should have been replaced 3 years ago and has seen several surgeries, a pinned ankle and an anchor in my shoulder. I also have 3 degenerated discs......My fighting days are over. I will not be a punching or kicking bag for no man. I try to be cordial to everyone because its the right thing to do, and not out of fear. I will walk away if I can because I cannot run. Pursue at your own risk.1 point
