My coworker has Hodgkin's lymphoma and is currently undergoing radiation and kemo. Real standup guy who still shows up to work every day despite the nausea and weakness. He typically doesn't stay but he's determined to carry on as normal so I salute him for that. Last night he shaved his head because it's falling out and I could tell today that he really felt out of place. So it's not an original idea by any means, but I've gotten together with the other guys on the team and we're going to walk in together tomorrow morning sporting the chrome domes. That being said, any advice on skull shaving for a first timer? :D10 points

I hear ya. Aggressive drivers only act that way because no one has yanked them out of their car and beat the snot out of them on the shoulder of the road, yet.7 points

They original surrounded his vehicle and attempted to pull him out. That's why he ran them over. When 200 people are about to have their way with you, there is nothing AT ALL the victim can do wrong. He could have killed every last one of those wannabe biker douches and still been in the right. IMO, he should have been taking them out once he got back up to highway speed, and stayed in the highway until the cops showed up. If a gang surrounds me, on bikes otherwise, and make hostile intentions known I am indeed in fear for my life. Whatever their beef was, I'd make sure to them it wasn't worth it to f*** with me.3 points

There is no way I would have gotten off that interstate. I also would have swerved left, then right, then braked and repeat until there was nobody left.3 points

I learned something from you guys. I had no idea you could shoot a turkey (either sex) during Deer Archery Only Season. That sucks because last saturday I had 7 big gobblers at 1 yard. haha2 points

As a rider, I'm usually against anyone hitting a bike... But I am also well aware of the dog mentality that a pack of people like that have. The bike brake checked him, then I'm sure he blamed the SUV driver and commenced to threaten, then the rest of his retarded biker buddies smelled blood and jumped in. I would've done the same thing, except when they started chasing me, I would've called 911 then locked up the SUV causing them all to wreck, then start heading to a police station. Nothing more than gang activity going on here because of a bunch of punks that want to get together and cause traffic problems in the city. I'm glad to know that they have now been banned from having the event any longer.2 points

First off, Your friend is in my prayers. I've been there. Twice, in fact. It's not an experience I'd wish on anyone. But as far as shaving your head. You are a great friend to help him feel a little less uncomfortable. Tncitizen22 has told pretty much what I did. If you have clippers, even dog clippers, cut as close as you can with them. Wet your scalp with hot water and lather away. I used a triple blade safety razor on mine and it works pretty well. Just don't get in a hurry. Use smooth strokes and keep your skin wet. Don't use a lot of pressure and you shouldn't cut yourself. Repeat. Don't get in a hurry. I think I took about 30-45 minutes the first time. Of course a lot of that was me looking in the mirrors. Which, btw, is pretty easy if you got a hand mirror and just hold it in front of your face, back to the other mirror and shave just like your face. After you do it a couple of times, it's real easy. And you do get used to it. Sometimes it's pretty comfortable. But again, you guys are great. Some advice, if I may. Don't push him to talk about it unless he wants. Don't be offended if he doesn't want or ask for a lot of help. By all means offer, but don't push. Support all you can. That goes for his wife and family as well. It's a terrible, trying, and sometimes very personal experience. I know that sounds strange, but believe me, sometimes alone and quiet is necessary and best. And not trying to horn if, but if you'd like to offer me as a talking source, I'd be available for him.2 points

Recently I've debated going back to a smaller size tire on the diesel. This video assures me that will not happen.2 points

I think the driver handled it well given the circumstances. About the only thing i would have done differently is rapidly ventilate the guy hitting the car with the helmet at the end.2 points

If you have not practiced from an elevated position, you need to! Not only does shooting from an elevated position actually make for a longer shot than estimated distance, leaning over while shooting can drastically change your anchor points and cause you to shoot who knows where. You are doing the right things man. It won't be long before you track down your first bow kill whether it be this buck or another deer.2 points
-
I agree with Wiljo. Deer often drop as soon as they hear the bow often resulting in the arrow hitting high. Sounds travels faster than the arrow so that's why.2 points
-
The bright side, weather you find him or not, is that you got the monkey off your back of that first shot. First shot that makes contact that is. From here on out, you only have to worry about distance and shot placement. Don't beat yourself up on the shot placement though deer move so fast that you may have been on the money, and it was just time for the deer to move a little.2 points

I like the subtle drops more than any exciting twists that might have been. 1) Marty Robbins playing on the radio when the volvo cranks "I saddled up and away I did go, Riding alone in the dark. Maybe tomorrow A bullet may find me. Tonight nothing's worse than this Pain in my heart.' 2) New Hampshire plates "Live Free or Die" 3) Jesse not shooting Walt even though Walt gave him that chance at vengence 4) Jesse getting to kill Todd I was disapointed in the ricin, as it was really obvious that it was gonna be in Lydia's Stevia2 points

Yes Robert tyranny, as in "agents of the state" repeatedly tresspassing on private property & repeatedly stealing something that wasn't theirs, stealing as in had no authority to take without permission because the lawful owner was denied due-process (or even notification). But of course you seem to have absolutely no problem with this because your concept(s) of tyranny & liberty are vastly different than mine (or our nation's founding fathers).2 points

Ummm... maybe you're not using a big enough ziplock? Just remember - Practice makes perfect! Practice, practice, PRACTICE!!! Practice every chance you get! Heading for an outdoor event or tailgating (no pun intended) on the weekend? Forego and eschew the porta-potties! Just whip out your butt-sized ziplock and let it roar! If someone asks what the hell you're doing, reply in your very best Elmer Fudd voice, "SHHH!!! We have to ve-wy, ve-wy quiet! I'm pwacticing for hunting season!" Oh, and don't worry about color coding, I'm sure that smell coding would be far more effective in the dark, anyway... Little Debbie oatmeal pies, huh? I love that they have Little Debbie's face on the box, but it took me many years to figure out why they only show her from the neck up... That's because from the neck down she's BIG Debbie (from eatin' all them oatmeal pies!) Black coffee? Only thing I can say about black coffee is that I took some on my last hunting trip with my best friend up in western Kansas and he allowed as to how he liked his coffee the way he liked his women... Took me three days to get over the shock of discovering that my best friend likes blonde, slutty coffee with low self-esteem!!! Good suggestions in this thread. Think I'll stick with my jerky, hardtack & water. (Not because I'm a purist or don't like what others take, but because I'm broke and haven't been able to find any butt-sized ziplocks.) :hat: ...TS...2 points

Whack em! That's all I've accomplished in my hunts so far. Smoked turkey breast will be good, but really wanting so smoke some summer sausage. All the deer I'd been seeing on cam have disappeared as of Friday night it appears. They aren't even showing their faces on any of 3 cams I have out! They will mess up though, and I will be waiting on them. Spent a total of 23 hours in the stand since opening morning and only have a turkey and one dear 'yote to show for it. Turkey at 5 yards and the coyote at 15. Coyote was stalking a fawn that had just passed with its momma. Craziest thing I've seen. Almost cat like. Hunkered down shoulders up like you see lions hunting. He never saw me stand and draw. Stuck him high between the shoulders. Spun for 20 seconds or so and lights out. Once I edit some film (gopro cam) I'll share it with y'all. Stay in the woods and stick em if ya can!1 point

It wasn't a hit and run though. They intentionally stopped traffic in order to immobilize that RR for whatever reason. He rear ends the bike in the beginning because the bike locked up his brakes in order to stop the RR. Then they surrounded him and attempted some street justice for whatever reason, so he ran one of them the hell over to escape. As far as rounds go, you don't need 200 rds to take care of a crowd of 200 gang members. Really you just need to kill the most aggressive one. Their cowards, which is why they need to roam in packs. Kill the pack leader and they'll look to save themselves. Just look at any video of a shooting in which an armed citizen takes on multiple armed attackers. You'll find very few, if any, where the bad guys stay and duke it out, even with superior numbers. My AK would have started barking at the beginning of this video, and I can bet that even if every last one of them was armed none of them would have the nuts to shoot back. You'd see nothing but a**holes and elbows.1 point

Thanks for all the tips guys, not just about shaving my dome, but also on addressing his illness. He's actually a very open guy. He took on the mindset early that it's not going to defeat him and he freely chats with anyone who asks him. We keep it minimal though, outside of being supportive and telling him we've got his back we don't chat about it. So as an update, I currently only have stubble. Just waiting on the wife's reaction before I go full blown Hesienberg For the record, ole Walt's got a few years on me :D1 point

Well I asked the one person I thought might know, he didn't. He did have some info that might help lead to an answer though, his texts are pasted below. I just noticed. The guy is wearing wings. Not RAF, but RAF style. Maybe Jordanian. But they don't wear them on the right side. E Not Jordanian. They look like British Army pilot wings. But they have a lion above the crown. These either have no lion or it is covered by the jacket flap. And, again - wrong side. Unless....they belong to an American (or other) who earned them in UK. Foreign wings go on right side. Edited to add, with Oh Shoots contribution I'm guessing we can call this one busted?1 point

Well that's 2.5 minutes of trigger time...LOL The first time I took my 14yr son out, I told him to do bursts or dump it, when he finished, he looked over at me and I was shaking my head after a 180 round dump, he said what, me that was $90 of ammo you just shot in 13 seconds... :stunned:1 point

Get your hair buzzed first down with electric clippers as close to the scalp as possible. Take a hot shower. After the shower shave your head using a new razor the same as you would your face. Apply some after-shave conditioner.1 point

I think a better comparison would be a noise complaint (alledged violation of a local ordinance) & the responding officer sneaks onto the homeowners patio & takes the homeowners patio stereo, without the homeowner being aware of who took it or why.1 point

Tyranny is almost always "legal" because it is almost always the tyrannts who are the ones making the laws &/or ignoring them. It is amazing to me how few people, even ones who purport to be "for freedom" actually understand extremely simple concepts like tyranny, liberty & individual freedom (or lack thereof). But but but ... there was a local easement ordinance! Really? A local easement ordinance that trumps the 5th Amendment's right to due-process? One that also void's the guarantees of the 4th & allows for warrantless tresspass & seizures of private property? All in an effort to suppress the homeowner's 1st Amendment right to publically express his political opinion? Sorry but this ain't the Soviet Union, apparently it's getting there quickly though, eh comrads? My world view is narcisstic & dangerous? What I want to know is why did we even bother fighting the Cold War for?1 point

If you mean those who promised to try and get rid of Obamacare, fine, but this won't do it, and they know it. If you're satisfied with symbolic gestures, I guess they justified the votes, with no great risk to the society, just a gamble on near future of the party's fortunes. I suppose risking the debt limit thing might actually be able to slow it down some, as that's a much higher stake lever, but if the USD becomes worth 50 cents because of it, I wonder how many will be glad they "lived up to" that campaign promise. And of course, still not nuke ObamaCare in any significant way. That will take an actual bill to fundamentally change or repeal it, and won't happen until it's a perceived individual advantage to the majority in both chambers. - OS1 point

Pretty sure a 223 Saiga can be fitted with a magazine well to use AR mags. They are easy to convert into a pistol grip configuration like an AK should be. You can convert them for under $200 in less than an hour with no special tools. Just curious, why an AK in 223 when an AR is more accurate and under normal conditions just as reliable?1 point

Can you take a picture of the serial number? Style and spacing can go a long way for determining real vs fake. For rust removal do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOx5URgjTiU My father was given a gun that was in a fire. It subsequently rusted up tight. The cyclinder could not be opened or turned. The hammer would not budge and you could not tell anything about the gun itself other than it was a modern revolver. After about 10 minutes we were able to open the cylinder and it even rotated on the ejector rod. You could even cock the hammer and the cyclinder would lock up. The springs were all shot but the hammer would lock in place until you pulled the trigger. You could even read what model and caliber it was. I will say that the slower you go the better it seemed to work. If you use a welder it will boil while if you use less electricity it will just bubble.1 point

Posted 30 May 2013 - 06:32 AM I've ripped the mag disconnects out of a dozens of MKIIIs and replaced them with standard MKII bushings or this guys machined product. I took the LCI out of several also. I used this guy's product to fill the gap where the LCI went in mine. I just don't like all the gunk that accumulates around the LCI. If you replace replace the sear and trigger with VQ parts you will drop your trigger pull to a clean 2.75lbs. This part more accurately replaces the space of the mag disconnect in MKIIIs http://www.tandemkro...ushing_p_9.html LCI replacement http://www.tandemkro...nsert_p_16.html http://www.tandemkro...Combo_p_34.html These are nice replacement parts also: Volquartsen triggers (adjusts for over and pretravel) http://www.rimfiresp...tegory_Code=VC2 http://www.rimfiresp...tegory_Code=VC2 MKII bushing to be used in place of the MKIII mag disconnect apparatus: http://www.rimfiresp...tegory_Code=VC2 Volquartsen sear will do amazing things for your trigger pull http://www.rimfiresp...tegory_Code=VC21 point
