mosin-nagant: The Mosin-nagant is an old school bolt action rifle from Russia. Originally designed by a drunk Russian engineer and an even more drunk Belgian gunsmith, who drew up blueprints on napkins in the back of a pub somewhere in Siberia in a vodka-induced stupor. The Mosin-nagant fires the 7.62x54r cartridge, which can kill a polar bear at a thousand yards and keep going right through the tree he was standing in front of. The Mosin-nagant was used by the Russians in both world wars, so it's killed more Germans than collisions on the autobahn and under-cooked sauerkraut combined. Surplus Mosins can be found at gunshops in the States for like a hundred bucks on sale, and ammo is cheap surplus, so this is what real men shoot who don't want to drop $1299.99 on an AR-15 which fires a .22 round and that's made out of recycled milk jugs and Legos. Many of them come with a bayonet that's roughly the size of the sword William Wallace used in Braveheart. In the absence of gun oil, you can clean a Mosin by Urine down the barrel and wiping the bolt off with a dirty rag that you found on the floor in a Grease Monkey. Try that with a rifle that was designed less than 50 years ago. Joe: " I need a rifle that is ten feet long and fires anti-tank rounds, but Ive only got 200 dollars!" Ivan: "Amerikan comrade, you need mosin-nagant . Spend 100 on the rifle, fifty on case of ammo, use rest for vodka!" In Soviet Russia, rifle fire you!!!

You would expect a gay guy to be a good shot. They got over that flinching thing a long time ago :)

Funny thing is we've had a few folks come in the store thinking we were something... other than a gun shop before.

It astounds me how interested TGO as a whole is in talking about gay guys. Gay people don't even talk about being gay as much as it seems to come up around here. :rofl:  At least this is semi gun related, sort of. Don't care one way or the other what dude does with his private life.

When reading some of the replays I noticed the sponsor at the top of the page was Guns and Leather. I stated laughing thinking about if Mr. Slave from Southpark carried a gun he would be Guns and Leather...

  Part of the firearms community IS anti gay. Just check out TGO. The gays in the military thread may have been the best one. I just had to bring up the showers, just so I could watch some heads explode  :rofl:

Perhaps what makes it newsworthy is the stereotype that shooters are men's men.... no that didnt come out right. Umm, that shooters tend to be meat eaters... crap, that didnt sound right either.

I always like Chris.  He seemed like a great guy on the show and was always a tough competitor.  He came out today publicly as a gay man.  It is easy to forget how diverse the pro gun/shooting/2nd amendment group really is.  I say good for him and wish him continued success.     http://www.topshotchris.com/1/post/2013/12/im-gay-for-guns.html

He was a great competitor and one that few on the show took seriously if I recall correctly.   It doesn't matter to me if he's homosexual or heterosexual; he's a darn good shooter and competitor.

What it really boils down to here is that the homophobes here are just jealous that gay people get more head than they do.

I think it does have the potential to open a door to some gay folks that may be interested in guns, but have never followed through because "gun culture" is often presented by the media as backwards, redneck, etc...Right or wrong, a lot of gay people identify a lot with other people solely based on their sexuality. Seeing one of "their own" as not just a shooter but a darn good one might send a few more folks through the door of their LGS or range. 

I care, to a point. There is a misconception that the firearms community is anti gay, him coming out directly combats that belief.  It also provides a potential role model for gay youths.

Dave,   I agree with your sentiments...with what you are seeking. The problem is that what you seek simply isn't possible because what you really want to do is stop evil and that's impossible.   It doesn't matter what steps are put in place or how much money is spent...you could place an armed SRO with every single student...provide Secret Level 24/7 security at every school for every student and while you might slow evil down you will never stop it...you'll never stop it for the same reason why there will still be murders and other violence if you destroyed every weapon of every kind that currently exists and ban the creation of new ones...evil will find a way to do evil things.   I'm truly sorry that this incident happened just as I'm sorry that any other mass shooting has happened...just as I am anytime an innocent person is killed or severely injured because of the evil actions of another but I also know that I can't stop it.   I carry a weapon for SD...I try to be aware of my surroundings...I've got great, mufti-level security at my home with plans on what to do based on possible scenarios but I'm under no illusions that I would always be able to stop the bad guys even though I'll try to do so..try to survive...or at lest take them with me when I go. I could wear body armor 24/7 (well almost) and drive an armored vehicle whenever I left the house and it still wouldn't be a guarantee.   There are probably things that could be done to make schools a more difficult target but as long as they exist and as long as evil exists they will continue to be targets and evil will still attack them and find ways to circumvent or mitigate whatever society does to try and thwart their plans.

I didn’t know Nashville even had a Morton’s. They are one of my favorite Steak Houses. I’m glad to see that Morton’s Management stepped up and tried to make things right instead of covering it up. The customer is this is satisfied, so that’s good enough for me. Employees can be ignorant; that’s what happened here. If I boycotted everywhere that had stupid employees I would have to stay home all the time. If the company supported the actions of their employees I could see an issue; but they clearly did not do that, and tried to make it right.

Morton's could be forgiven when they fire that stupid f'ng manger.

If they could figure out a way to do the same thing with mowing I'd be all for it.

My $0.02, keep it stock, keep it clean. You will put a bunch of money into a almost 30 year old truck, for what? You will not get a lot of pep out of the 305. When you go with bigger wheels and tires you put a LOT of strain on the running gear, and brakes, putting in a set of gears and you will take out U joints. Keep it clean, I like the way it looks.

I just sold the perfect donor truck to a guy doing basically what you are wanting to do. I had on '80 3/4 ton suburban 4x4 with 14 bolt rear, 10 bolt front and 4.11 gears, SM465 4spd manual, NP205 t-case. I had already built the 350 to go back in it and decided not to finish it.   He's going to transplant all the running gears into his '84 Chevy truck about like your but not near as nice. The body on the suburban was pretty rough and I ran out of steam/ funds on the project. Used the money to fund TGO lower black rifle projects instead.

No, you can keep the flat top pistons that should be in that engine. All you need to re-cam your motor is a set of valve cover gaskets, timing cover gaskets, intake gaskets and if it were me I would add a twin roller timing chain and gears. I think I would probably go with a Crane blazer 288 Camshaft. It is a great duration RV cam and will not need a stall converter but add plenty of zip. I am guessing you have a Quadra jet 4 barrel carburetor. Might want to step up if you do and put some 74 jets in it if you have the Quadra jet. Should give your 305 some serious pep but I would still do the Lock out manual hubs on front wheels and stop that differential from working when not needed. 4 inch lift and 33's should serve you well. Everything listed above does not require real deep pockets but won't be cheap either. Tires and wheels will cost you more that most all the rest of it combined. Have fun and take you time and if you do this enjoy the time working on the truck. I was an ASE certified Master Mechanic for 35 years and I loved working on cars and trucks until I was forced to quit due to health issues. I have built quit a few toys of my own over those years. The Blazer was my last one. Youngest son still drives it around on his farm when he goes deer hunting and he painted it all up in Camo.

It's frustrating as a motorcyclist when you get cut off, it happens.  The insinuation that your phone call is more important than my life does get most motorcyclists blood flowing.  The smartest thing you can do is let it go.  This is a classic Zimmerman/Martin situation.  Both parties did things that they shouldn't have done which escalated the situation to the point that it did.  I would follow someone who had intentionally backed over a friend, I would not do it unarmed.

Yeah, but I can walk into a mall or a movie theater and achieve the same thing. Bottom line, the world isn't safe. The answer isn't to live on constant lockdown. There are plenty of measures that can be taken to give us reasonable security, but nothing can be mitigated down to zero. So long as there are evil people there will be evil deeds.
