Picked up a .22 cricket yesterday for my one year old daughter Brooklyn. Shoots shorts, longs, and long rifle. I have heard that you can get a pretty good laminate stock for them also.7 points

Just in case everyone in the Tri-cities is not aware, the folks running the Meadowview show continue to prohibit our good friend David from selling reloading supplies there. I have not been to that show in over 2 years in protest of this action and I will continue to to boycott them until they do the right thing and allow David to setup and sell. Who's with me?7 points

That's what I was thinking. I got it home and opened the box to find these: I bought it from a pawn and gun shop in Virginia the salesman must have slipped them in the box when he packed the gun up. I had asked if they had any 22lr and he said no but there were several guys standing close by when I asked.5 points

Regardless of what your opinion of the MSM is the thought of the FCC putting "researchers" (monitors) into every newsroom in the country is far more dangerous than what's happening to the 2nd Amendment.4 points

you'd have to be a stupid S.O.B. to try and put a wood block in a live trapped coyote's mouth I bet the first man who ever tries will earn a new nickname...Stumpy4 points
Are you serious about "competition hunting"? Man, I must be living in a time warp. What sick mind thought up this?
I've been doing competition coon hunting since I was little, and so has my dad who is 60 this year. Its not a new trend by any means. And I don't really consider it sick, coyotes are a nuisance and have cost me and my family a lot of money and headache harrassing cattle. Whats the difference in killing 3 or 4 on the weekend and killing 3 or 4 in a competition hunt. Either way the coyote gets killed quickly with a gunshot. Tapatalk ate my spelling4 points

This dog was killed during a contest. The wood block is set in the mouth right after the kill. A random word or code is given to the hunters just before the hunt starts. That word is written on the block and placed in the mouth of a freshly killed coyote. This keeps people from cheating during the contest. The tape is used to keep the block from falling out of the mouth while the coyote is being dragged out of the woods. If the jaw locks you can't get it back open. I've never hunted a contest and never really wanted to, but I don't have a problem with it either. I've trapped a bunch in the last 6-7 years. I'm not heartless, mean, or psycho. I've helped friends and farmers keep their pets and livestock and I don't regret it for a second.3 points

It's no surprise. David is exactly loved by the reloading retail community. Why? Because you cannot beat his prices and you damn sure can't beat his attitude and personality. Whining titty babies , the lot of them. Boohoo, someone sells for a REASONABLE price and we can't buttrape everyone who comes by. Somebody call a waaahhmbulance. Competition is the best thing in the world for business and Magnum Materials will compete with anyone for price, selection and customer service. I don't say this because David is my friend. David is my friend because that's what kind of person he is. Keep doing what you're doing David. Hell with them other people.3 points

If anyone is really interested, there is a symposium on the "New Frontiers in the Second Amendment" being held at the UT College of Law on Saturday, March 1st at 9am. Wish I could go, but some of you around Knoxville might find it interesting. Added: It is FREE and open to the public, by the way.2 points

So for the last few years, I've kind of wanted to get into making some blades, but haven't. Time and lack of tooling really put a damper on my plans. I told myself that I would start when I could find a decent deal on a grinder, but never got around to it. Well fast forward to the holidays last year, and I had a little time on my hands. I decided to give it a go without the expensive tooling and do it by hand. Here are the results of my efforts with nothing but hand tools - hacksaw, a couple of good files, and various sandpapers. This started as a piece of 3/16" O1 tool steel. Cutting it with the hacksaw didn't take nearly the time I thought it was going to. I have a bandsaw, but in the spirit of "handmade", wanted to try it with the hacksaw. I'd say it took about an hour to cut the profile. I then proceeded to clean it up with the files, and let me just say that a good file, kept clean can really remove some metal. I put together a jig to hold the blade, and each side took about an hour and a half to get where I wanted it. Mind you, I likely could have cut this down some, but my kids wanted to help and I went slow to keep from screwing it up. I finished the blade by getting it non-magnetic with a torch and a quench in warm oil. I then heat treated in a small oven a couple of different times. I wish I had taken some pictures of the blade at this point. The scales are some cedar heartwood I recovered. I sharpened it on a standard Lansky set and finished on a strop. I really put it through some torture and it held its edge better than a lot of factory knives I've owned. I'd say my overall time spent was about 8 hours. Here is the finished product: I guess the moral of this story is don't let a lack of power tooling stop you from doing something fun.2 points

Hello, You’re among the first to hear: we’re beginning conversations with Nashville-Davidson to explore what it would take to bring fiber to a community near you. Over the next few months, we’re going to work with city leaders on a joint planning process. We’ll assess what unique local construction challenges we might face, and then map out what we would need to do to bring Google Fiber to Nashville-Davidson. This process will take some time, but we hope to have updates on which cities will get Fiber by the end of the year. We’re excited by the possibilities here in the Nashville area. Help us spread the word so that your friends and family also hear the news. We have a lot of work to do over the coming months, and we’ll make sure to keep you updated. In the meantime, you can find more information about our plans at google.com/fiber/newcities. Thanks, The Google Fiber Team2 points

Went to a local fishing spot today and cleaned up other peoples trash. I really should have been doing this earlier in the off season. But I just hadn't done it yet. I also want to mention for those of you that may not know. YOU CAN AND WILL GET A BUI (Boating Under the Influence) if you drink on the water. And by all the beer bottles I picked up it looks like it a pretty common problem. If I'm finding them at the BOAT RAMP. I can't imagine all the ones that were sunk. Come on people help keep our waterways clean.2 points

Was she allergy tested to find out about the dust mite allergy? I ask because most of the confirmed allergy dogs that I have seen have multiple allergies to tree and weed pollens, grasses, and a variety of stuff. There may still be a product that you spray on bedding to break down the dust mite proteins (I haven't seen it in a while, and I can't remember the name). Usually we test dogs if we are planning on using desensitization therapy; I personally have not tested many animals because the cost can be high for my clients. Often we have a suspicion of seasonal allergies (atopy) versus food allergies based on the pattern of itching and time of year when it occurs. Also, all secondary infections have to be treated because thast will perpetuate the itching. For years, the cornerstone of allergy treatment has been steroids, which are usually very effective, but come with lots of side effects. As for antihistamines, I usually recommend Zyrtec (citirizine) first because in a clinical study, it was the only antihistamine with measurable effect, and even then it only helped 20% of dogs. However, the dermatologists will recommend trying an antihistamine (Zyrtec, Claritin, Allegra, Bendaryl, Tavist, chorpheniramine) for 2 weeks; if you don't see any effect, then you probably won't ever. Sometimes we get lucky and that particular dog responds to just one specific antihistamine. (Caveat: generics are ok, but make sure to get products that only contain antihistamines; no decongestants). It sounds like your dog probably gets steroid shots. When I use steroids, I usually use prednisone because if there are side effects, the drug can be withdrawn. In your case, maybe the vet could dispense or prescribe prednisone (assuming the office is still in contact with him while he is at home). Omega fatty acids are useful to decrease the number of chemicals that lead to inflammation, but that is more of a long-term, ancillary treatment. Just recently (as in, introduced in the last month), Zoetis (formerly Pfizer Animal Health) introduced a drug called Apoquel. According to all the vets (regular vets and dermatologists) who have got to use it in the pre-release period, it is a miracle drug. At least that is what the clients are telling the vets because it stops the itching just as good as steroids, but does not have all the side effects. I have only been using it for 2 weeks, so my personal experience is low, but all the vets I hear from are enthusiastic about it. They are comparing the introduction of this drug to the time when heartworm prevention changed from daily to monthly administration; it is supposed to that type of dramatic paradigm shift. The insert lists various side effects required by the FDA, but in practical experience, they are seeing no side effects. In the dogs that I have used it on, I have not seen any side effects. Apoquel, being a new drug, is going to more expensive than prednisone, but a lot cheaper than Atopica, which until recently was one of the only other treatments for atopy. I believe, however, that Apoquel is going to be cheaper than an office visit combined with steroid injections for many people, regardless of their vet's prices. That's a good thing because steroid injections should be used a lot less frequently than they are; my dermatology professors literally said, "DON'T use the drugs in dogs!" If your vet is completely out of contact, and there are other vets in town, you might consider a visit to one of them and see if Apoquel is available. I especially worry about steroids of any kind in senior dogs due to potential side effects. Edit: I forgot to add that garlic is toxic to dogs. It causes a certain type of anemia. Every "dose" of garlic a dog eat results in the destruction of some red blood cells. Obviously your dog is still alive, but it may only be because the bone marrow is producing enough red blood cells to replace the ones lost each day. My recommendation would be to not feed any garlic (or onions) at all. It's hard to not sound like I am criticizing another vet, but I think the majority of the modern-educated vets would agree that garlic is not good for dogs. To quote a noted veterinary toxicologist from the Veterinary Information Network: " ALL ingested garlic/onion will cause some degree of hemolysis in dogs and cats." In other words, there is no safe, therapeutic dose for garlic. The only veterinary use that I have heard of is for flea control, and it doesn't work for that.2 points

No, just asking the city if they can handle 100's of permit requests per week... and be given right away access... obviously they pay for each permit just like any other business... so they wouldn't be getting any special breaks that Comcast and AT&T aren't getting. And trust me, you'll see the price of your cable and tv service go down from both AT&T and Comcast the day Google decided to build out fiber here in Nashville. Google fiber will cost 30% less than what I'm paying now, and be 35 times faster... That should upset you a lot more about how we're being ripped off by Comcast and AT&T for Internet service.2 points

I've seen that before. Some idiot traps the coyote or any other animal in a live trap. he'll bite down on the block of wood, won't release and they tape the mouth closed around the wood block and release the animal. They can't eat or drink and in some instances breathe well enough to survive. So dehydration, starvation or suffocation, a slow painful death any way you look at it. People are the cruelest animals.2 points

I've owned one for several years. Pros I love it. Light, easy to hold and shoot. Loads of fun at the range. Cons A pain in patootie to load the mags. Does have a tendancy to double feed occasionally, has been known to not fully go back to full battery after every round. Has a lot of people hating them for these reasons, and because it's a Keltec product. And 22 mag is not really easy to get at the moment. I bought enough for my use when they were running around 10-12 per 50 rounds. and that was 2 years ago. Now, all that being said; not every one does those things. For mine, the more it's shot the smoother it gets. And the fewer problems it seems to have. Is this the best available 22 mag? Maybe not. Is it a carry gun? Dependable and certain enough for that? Maybe not. But it is a fun plinker. But this is my stone cold honest opinion. I like it. It's not the best firearm I've ever owned, but far from the worst.1 point

I bet the block has writing on it. The reason they do this is because they write down information on the block AFTER the animal is killed. They do it to keep track of who killed it, what time, etc. It is not done to be cruel because the animal is already dead by the time the block is put in the mouth. It is what is used to tag the animal without putting holes in the ears or other areas. Out of curiosity, how would you mark a coyote with who killed it, when and where? The animal did NOT have its mouth taped shut while it was a live and then release alive. The animal was long dead before the block was inserted in the mouth.1 point
-
Its done after the coyote was killed.. so what`s the problem? I would be more upset with the method they trap these things than a block of wood inserted into their mouths AFTER death.. *A kill block is an object that is placed into the coyote’s mouth upon death. Each team is responsible for making there own kill blocks. Each kill block will contain the time of death and the team members name or initials. Kill blocks can be constructed from wood, PVC or metal1 point

I have come to the conclusion think that the best way to treat states like NY, CT, NJ and the like who want to enact draconian and unconstitutional firearm regulations is for good men and women to vote with their feet. There are other places to live (and I would submit, better places to live)...let these states that continue to do stupid things such as enact these gun laws and continue out of control spending to sink into the cesspool they are creating for themselves. If enough people and businesses left these states might just get a clue and it they didn't then at lest the good people wouldn't be there to suffer with the idiots.1 point

And I completely agree in the vast majority of cases the outcome is just as bad if not worse than what they had before. Which is why I don't advocate for an insurgency... which is why I tend to make sure people don't have a false sense of bravado... Our Government and by extension the military won't win an insurgence here at home... and neither will we the people. So we should do everything in our power to avoid it... but the fact remains many politicians don't see it that way... and they're playing with fire... we're maybe 2 steps away from a civil war, and many in both parties are happy to keep marching along in the same direction hoping we don't step into a pothole and kick off the worse war any of us have ever seen. Eventually they'll poke the wrong bear... and all of us and for 4 or 5 generations to come will be paying the price.
Well stated. I know some folks view me as some bloodthirsty internet blowhard clamoring for an excuse to start shooting folks. That isn't the case at all. I would love it if the fed.gov would return to its original semi-minarchist form. I just don't see that happening and I have determined that a point does exist where I won't take anymore. As far as my position on the targeting of politicians and media partisans, look at it this way. If there is someone who is hiring hit men to kill you and they will never be prosecuted for it no matter how many they send, do you just attempt to defend yourself against the hit men until one of them gets you? Maybe the real solution is to go after the person paying the hit men. The agents tasked with enforcing the intolerable acts like this gun registration in CT aren't the real enemy (though if they catch lead trying to kidnap a citizen for not complying with it, so be it) the politicians who passed the laws and the media whores who sell their lies for them are. If one is going to possibly die resisting these intolerable acts, might as well take out some of the real villains first.1 point

For 7,62x39 I'd run a Lee C312-155-2R cast from air cooled wheel weights. Air cooled will be more than hard enough to get you to 1500-1600 fps but still soft enough to mushroom. Penetration @ 100 and less will be excellent.1 point

Huge difference between criminal behavior and standing up for constitutional rights, refusing to acknowlege or obey an un-constitutional law, a law in itself is illegal under the constitution, is a patriotic act of defiance. George, Thomas, and Ben and many more patriots defied and broke the laws of England and were considered criminals and traitors by the monarcy. The people of Connecticut who refuse to acknowlege or obey registration laws are true patriots.1 point
