  1. This is my anarchistic-perspective on Kaepernick's comments: he signed a contract with a team. He agreed to terms when he signed. Did the contract include expectations of personal/political conduct? I dunno. But whatever happens to him now is between the parties involved in the contract.

  4. The leftists think I'm some sort of crazy right winger because I simply suggest that people should be free. The right wingers think I'm some sort of crazy leftist for the very same reason. Neither one realizes that they are the same as the other. As for hopping on a plane, I think I'll just stay put because the government is the one that sucks. I'm just gonna keep asking "why not try freedom instead?"

  6. I preferred to drive. Took five or six trips for all the house stuff, the shop, the equipment and livestock. If you mean the US, no one chose to be born here any more than anyone else. Why should those of us who don't for the line for the masters have to leave? Are we hurting anything, other than some folks pride when we point out that they're not as freedom loving as they claim to be? Just because we're all slaves to the system doesn't mean we have to pretend the chains aren't there.

  7. Right?! The amount of folks who talk about valuing freedom and then turn around and justify, excuse, and defend the legitimacy of an entity that makes them less free with every passing day is astounding isn't it? That at is what you meant,, right?

  8. You did the right thing. If you see something; say something. A person walking around with a gun in his hand is not normal. The fact that he is a gun owner doesn't get him a free pass with me; he could be headed over to kill his neighbor. If he isn't doing anything wrong; he won't have any problems.

  10. Here's an example. It's Friday evening and I just bought a motorcycle. I stuck my 642 in a pocket*, hopped on it and rode down to the local bar* to show it off to some friends. It's a nice cool evening, so I left my helmet at home*. I had a beer*, visited for a while then went over to another friend's house. We smoked a joint*, hung out for a few hours and I went home. 1- I don't have a HCP. 2- I don't have a motorcycle license, bought it used on Craigslist. 3- TN has a helmet law. 4- I'm pocket carrying a .38 like always. TN doesn't define "under the influence" with regard to alcohol and carrying so it's likely my consumption of one beer is a violation of the law. 5- It's illegal in the state of TN go grow, posses, or use marijuana. All of those things are violations of the law, yet there are no victims. These things are freedoms that the government has eagerly stripped away with no justification. Some folks see the government as the storm shelter, and some of us see them as the tornado.

Though I am surprised the right gave up control of the schools so easily. They have the same interests in an unthinking, easily manipulated population. I mean that's why they designed the public school system the way they did after all.

  19. You will more than likely go through multiple holsters and belts before you settle on one - don't feel bad about it, its always good to have extras and you can start with some "cheaper" ones to get the style you like (AIWB, OWB, SERPA, leather, clipped, etc) but definitely do not skimp out on the final choice of belt and holster. Belts are essential for weight - dependent on what gun you carry it can get heavy adding a giant phone and case, spare mags if you carry any and tear your lower back up. Some are more sensitive to weight, you end up not noticing but for work I carried a bunch of heftier stuff on my belt. Lint and sweat (especially if your swest is super briny because all you eat is salted pork and pretzels) will get into your gun - so keep it clean and lubed. Most guns are coated with something nice but constant contact will start surface rust and discoloration. Practice realistically. Dont be a mall ninja either - practice drawing and dry firing at home. At the range practice in plains clothes - tucked, untucked, jackets, suits, sweaters, offhanded, moving, etc - crawl/walk/run that out but be highly trained and discriminately lethal. Hardly anyone will notice unless you like carrying a 50rd drum magazine hanging out your gun. Dont fidget or worry - even if someone does notice for some reason its legal and they can FOAD. Tell them youre thinking of their mom/sister/grandma/wife. As far as ammo train with it - people love citing coolguy tests like how many fat chicks/phonebooks/gelatin tubs it can penetrate...first off I hope you never have to shoot someone it sucks...second you probably wont have to...third: shot placement is more important than carrying some +P+P nitro teflon coated race gun high caliber 23mm rounds. .22 will kill you just as bad as .450 BM - but whatever you choose make sure to practice. Too many times people want to carry some HST/GDs or whatever the "larry vickers said dis is kewl ma ninja" flavor of the month is and never train with it - so get comfortable as part of you never ending firearms and humility training. You can also look into shoulder holsters or even belly bands if that works for you - dont buy into hypes do what is the best for you. And as always keep yourself legally informed - where you can carry, what states honor your CCW, if the state had a law for declaring to LEOs, and applicable self defense laws Have fun. Buy smart. Train smarter.

  21. I see it this way, our Government may have its flaws, but I see it as the storm shelter that prevents that tornado from taking the life of my family while I am away. Do I think they can do no wrong, of course not, but looking across the globe there are very few places I would rather be. Freedoms may not be granted by our Government, but so far has been the one to help maintain what we currently have. Again, not saying everything they do I agree with, as like everything they (the people in it) can have their own agenda, but it is the form of Government that we have and at least there are a few checks and balances that try and make it so it's not a dictatorship. I am well aware of the runaway systems that our Government has allowed to be created and I feel that one day, maybe soon, we will have a reckoning to reset it (or attempt to) back to the way it should be. I hear all the rhetoric from those that say we are not free due to taxes, laws etc, yeah I get it, they want to be able to do as they wish without Government interference which is all well and good, until "they" decide that what they want to do interferes with my rights, then its on. Again, the Government, Laws, hell, society in general is not perfect but its far better than it could be, and I for one am glad to be part of it.

  22. To be clear, I didn't mean to imply that you personally were suffering from Stockholm syndrome. My intent was just to point out that it's easy to draw a comparison to people that have experienced it and unquestioning patriotism, especially for those of us who have a different view of what freedom is. A lot of people will say they love America, are patriots, etc and when asked why they usually answer with something about freedom. There's a point of view (full disclosure, it's one that I happen to hold) that no government can grant freedom. We are all born free people, the government only serves to remove those freedoms and restrict the things we can do. They cannot create new freedoms and grant them to us. Imagine a tornado and having literally everything you've ever owned disappear while you're away. When you return home, everything is gone except for two family pictures you found in what used to be your yard. Patriotism would then claim what a wonderful, generous tornado it was because it gave you two photos while completely ignoring everything that is has taken from you.

  23. What do you need information on? Get a good belt and don't save a buck on a holster. I carry both iwb and owb a FN FNS9 without worrying about being "made". I'm 5'9" and "fit" for 39 years. There are a million combinations of belts and different holsters. It feels like everyone is staring at you but they aren't. The smart phones have taken everyone's awareness and flushed it.

  27. So is that what we are supposed to do, just run? What about trying to educate others and help them to see all the freedoms that they don't enjoy? I realize that Chuck has already said everything I feel and mostly in a better way than I could every convey, but I'll still throw this in. I feel quite privileged because of the life I was born into. I was born in a decent country at a pretty decent time. I've never truly been want of any necessity. I'm a lucky individual. However, that doesn't mean that I can't be critical of my country and systems in place meant to stifle true freedom. I'll do what I feel is necessary to make my neighborhood, community, city, state, country and even world a better place for the next generation. And if that is as simple as trying to educate people on a forum, or refusing to stand for a racist anthem, or whatever, then I will take pride in those actions. Even if I can't change a single mind, as long I get people talking and thinking, I'm doing what I believe is right.

  28. Good belt and good holster are key. Don't skimp on these. I've never been able to make iwb work for me so I carry my G26 owb w/ an untucked shirt. Never had anyone say a word. No one notices as near as I can tell. I also carry a ruger lcp in my pocket if I'm in a non-permissive environment (you can interpret that however you like). It absolutely disappears. Otoh, it is a bear to shoot accurately. Short sight radius, tiny grips, short barrel and a really long trigger make on target hits difficult. Practice is essential! Regardless of what you decide on, practice is critical. Not just shooting but clearing any concealing clothing and drawing the weapon... to me that's critical. My drills revealed several shirts that fit too tightly for owb carry... makes it too difficult to clear the weapon w/o snagging it on the shirt. Practice til the movements are firmly embedded in muscle memory.

  31. Good Info from both Wiljo05 and sschrick I would offer this recommendation - - - Please DO NOT get a Blackhawk SERPA Holster. They are IMHO unsafe. Too many shooters do not understand the correct placement for their finger to release the locking SERPA Auto Lock (see red arrow in picture). Folks will use the tip of their finger to release the lock, and then as they draw the handgun their finger will touch the trigger and a negligent discharge WILL Happen! At best the shooter gets a disqualification from the round impacting closer than two yards away, at worst the shooter (or somebody else) gets a gunshot wound. Blackhawk makes a very inexpensive holster without the SERPA that they call the Sportster Standard that can be had in the $20-30 range that will do everything you need in IPDA.

  32. No, you can posses that firearm on your own property as long as you are not a felon or have been convicted of domestic violence. Don't point it at anyone. If it is a handgun keep it holstered and if it is s long gun keep the muzzle pointed down. Please don't push the envelop by standing outside with an Ar-15 slung across your chest, lol.

  37. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/murder-4-words-kaeper-critics-won-tackle-article-1.2769870 "So instead, they change the subject once more to imaginary military slights he never stated. Last night, Kaepernick clarified that too: “I have great respect for the men and women that have fought for this country. I have family, I have friends that have gone and fought for this country." And then, Kaepernick explained the tragic hypocrisy: “This country isn’t holding up their end of the bargain… men and women that have been in the military have come back and been treated unjustly, and have been murdered by the country they fought for, on our land. That’s not right.” No. That’s not right. It’s criminal. Walter Scott, killed by officer Matthew Slager on video, was a US Veteran. So was India Kager, Kenneth Chamberlain and others. Scott was not only shot while running away, but the original police report was falsified so Slager could “get away with murder." Slager, who is still awaiting trial, wasn’t just a “bad apple,” he was part of a police cover-up. Slager never honored Scott’s past military service. He murdered him. A flag does not inherently represent soldiers. That is a lifetime of political brainwashing talking. Claiming Kaepernick’s act as an insult to soldiers is as logically twisted as claiming standing up for the flag honors Micah Johnson and Gavin Long — the two military veterans who killed police in Dallas and Baton Rouge. Neither statement makes any damn sense."

  38. The national anthem is a bit of a shibboleth - it's a who's in/who's out test. By refusing to stand, Kaepernick offended a lot of people - and that's okay. When it comes to the national anthem, which do we value more - the adherence to the tradition itself, or the values that the tradition supposedly represent? Because if it's the later, more of us should take issue. That anthem doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. By asking everyone to stand, we're essentially asking people to pay tribute to a vision of how we perceive things to be. But, for many blacks, American history is deeply troubled, and continues to be. I grew up in Decatur, Georgia. My grandfather worked as a superintendent of Atlanta schools during integration. I count myself as fortunate to have grown up in a multicultural community. While I saw racist statements and actions against friends from time to time, I would have argued that those were exceptions rather than normative actions. Historically I've argued that people of my generation - maybe with some naive hope - who were born 10 years after the passage of the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act ought to think of the the effects of slavery and reconstruction and racism as historical artifacts as opposed to modern realities. But, that's simply not true. Look below the surface just a bit and you'll see that the byproducts of our racist past still account for communities being held back. And, that affects everyone in the community. I had coffee with some black friends yesterday. On the surface, they look like successful professionals. But, I know them. Every one of them has had to work harder and longer than I have, and without as much to show for it. I was disciplined as a chid, but never once did I hear, "I'm going to beat you so the police won't." Their experience is different. And, when you look at communities like Ferguson where the government is profiting off of the citizens it's supposed to be serving, it's not hard to see why people are protesting. I know that a lot of people are dismissive of groups like Black Lives Matter. But, while protest isn't a solution, maybe it creates room to talk about finding one. Reread Letter from Birmingham Jail and you'll find that people disagreeing with how groups go about protesting is nothing new. Everyone's experience is different. I'm certain my perspective is different than many of y'all's. But, if America is going to truly be great again - it has to be because everyone gets to come along for the ride.

  39. It's not about civil religion, it's about a lack of respect and insulting generations of men and women that defended this country. Whether the premise is even justified is up for debate, regardless, get your a$$ off the bench and show some respect for the country that made your life even possible. As suggested, he wouldn't be educated enough to express his opinion if he wasn't raised in this nation. If you want to raise awareness about a particular topic, find some other way to do it. It's all grand-standing for continued victim-hood, which frankly, is the real root of the issue. - K

  40. But no, I just had to rebuild an M1 Carbine into a reliable personal/home defense and fun plinking gun. And I thought if I found a beater, I could rebuild it for cheap. Hahaha hahaha. Parts and accessories ARE plentiful... 1. Found a shooter for $250. 2. Had an over-receiver scope mount. 3. Replaced sporterized stock with Choate folder (demeling requred) and metal hand guard. 4. Bought a 30mm tube scope for the existing 1" mount. 5. Bought a 1" tube scope. 6. Test fired, ejection issues, cause thought to be over-receiver scope mount. 7. Removed and replaced with railed hand guard. Relocated scope forward. 8. Test fire 2. First 25 rounds, flawless, then the same ejection issue plus extraction issues too. 9. Went to the TGO Well of Knowledge; didn't get gas piston clean enough and extractor is damaged. 10. New parts and tools on the way to rebuild the bolt and replace the piston and nut. 11. Don't like the front handguard, after 50 - 75 rounds it get got, like burn your hands hot. Not sure how that would impact accuracy (if at all) even shooting 100y or less. 12. Don't forget the not a gun bag bag, extra mags, ammo and other bits and pieces. Can't tell you how much I've enjoyed the experience! Hoping #13 will be success test fire and #14 will be success test with original over-receiver scope mount.

  43. I think you have to ask yourself what you really want. I shoot AR pattern rifles for the most part and I carry Glock pistols so a AR that accepts Glock magazines made sense. It has ran like crazy for around 700 rounds so far without a hiccup. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I have a Hipoint 995TS like the poster above. I may have $300 in it all together. It, just like my 9mm AR, has never stumbled. I've fed it every 9mm weight and bullet type I've had and it has digested it. Both can be a lot of fun. Like I said, I think it comes down to what you want and what you want to spend. Pic of my two
