  1. Got a 10 pointer on Saturday afternoon so it's doe only from here on out for me. I'll have to be super careful with the new buck regs. I'm being a little different Saturday morning, I'm hitting the woods with a 44 mag revolver. I've never taken a deer with a handgun, I'm looking forward to the chance.

  3. Pour some Kroil on it so it will get down in there and break it loose. Let it soak in while you study on it... like a day. Just did the same thing on an old CVA New Remington Pocket pistol that I recently rediscovered. Built it from a kit when I was about 13, shot it a couple of times in the backyard, never cleaned it and put it away. Fast forward to now and that cylinder was completely locked up...not anymore. Kroil is the miracle oil.

  5. The Big South Fork Scenic Railway goes by a train that was wrecked in the filming of the movie "The Fugitive". Is this the sort of thing you're looking for? http://www.winding-stairs.com/ The winding stairs walking trail is a little known place to visit in my hometown. http://www.redboilingspringstn.com/history.htm Red Boiling Springs was once the top tourist destination in the U.S. A flood in the 60's wiped out a lot of it, but there are three hotels still there. Pretty interesting, out of the way stuff.

  7. As stated above, interstate handgun transfers must pass through an FFL in the buyer's state. There isn't an exception for family members. The exception is an inheritance. An interstate inheritance of firearms does not have to pass through an FFL in either the deceased of recipient's state (NFA items have a Form 5 tax-free transfer in this case). ETA: I don't see why ya'll couldn't meet here in TN, have the buyer look it over, etc. and decide if he wants it. If so, you'd then ship it to his FFL in MN. I don't see why you couldn't get paid on the spot when the deal is done, as long as he doesn't take possession of it. That would be no different than any other out of state seller waiting for a check to clear before sending the firearm to the buyer's FFL. Does anyone know of a reason why that wouldn't work?

  8. Handguns must go through an FFL in the buyer's state of residence. Long guns can be transferred by an FFL either here or there, though you may get some static from one here. You can loan an out-of- state visitor a firearm for "sporting purposes" within the state for an indefinite length of time.

  11. I have mentioned in another thread I have hunted 1 week a year in central Wisconsin. This marks my 29th year and over the years I've taken a few corn fed does, 6, 7 and 8 point bucks but nothing massive. I have only hunted Wisconsin during archery season and I have not gun hunted for deer anywhere in about 15 years. Over the years I've seen many large Pope and Young bucks but nowhere in archery range. Like most everywhere else last week it was exceptionally warm but the bucks were chasing and I passed on many fork horns and and 6 point bucks early in the week. Then on the drive home we always beat ourselves up because by the end of the week we usually see fewer deer in archery range and and up with nothing. On the 5th day of hunting I had seen nothing all day long which just doesn't happen very often where I hunt. It had been a long day and I was ready to pack it up and climb down from the tree and as I looked to my right I saw what may be the buck of my lifetime dead down wind from me at about 30 yards. I knew he was going to wind me at any second and I was just going to enjoy the moment and watch him. He was smelling the air with his head up high and kept looking up in my direction as if he knew something wasn't right but not sure why. He then meandered to within 10 yards to my right and being a righty it was impossible to turn a draw on him without him knowing. He suddenly spun and trotted to where I first saw him and as he was moving away I turned and drew. He stopped and turned broadside at 32 yards and launched an arrow. I got a clean heart shot as he went 30 yards and expired.

  12. Something about these little 100 plus year old wheel guns that is intriguing. With a working one in my hand, I often think it may well have been assembled by an old Civil War vet. Well anyway, I picked this up on GB about a year ago for about a hundred bucks. Last month I did a similar rebuild on a little 22 short called a Captain Jack. The Ranger is a good choice for a rebuild since it uses coil springs for the cylinder latch lever and cylinder locking lug. Also the hand is sprung very nicely with a strong spring arm pined into the hammer. Many of these early mouse guns used tiny leaf springs that would be a real pain to fab up since they are usually shot. As with a lot of these, I had to beat the cylinder pin out of the gun. The cylinder had about .016" end shake so the picture shows the building up of weld that will extend the length of the cylinder and I will turn the weld into a thicker bushing face. The original diameter over the cylinder pin was very thin allowing the hammer to beat the cylinder forward over the many firings. Heres the turned cylinder with a new pin made from oil hardened drill rod. Once the cylinder is fit into the frame with virtually no forward to back play, The barrel face is turned back and drilled out to .250". Then a new 22 sleeve is turned to fit and epoxied into the barrel. most any of these early guns will have the hammer and or the trigger sear wiped out as seen here. The fix is once again a build up of weld and recutting the hammer sear notches. Reshaped and the trigger spring was trimmed to lighten it up to a far more comfortable let off. After the trigger is re-timed with the action, I simply hardened it with Kasenite. The front sight was missing so I soldered in a new blade and trimmed it down to POA. The target is a 7 round cylinder string fired off hand at 6 feet. The only rounds that I would say is safe to fire in a well functioning BP mouse gun are CCI #0026 22 SHORT CB rounds. These round have no powder in them. only a primer charge. I'm always on the look out for those CCI #0026 rounds. I use them in an old Belgian Flobert type rolling block I have. You gotta love putting life back into these grand old guns! I sure do

  13. Ok guys we have approximately 70 days or so to start bugging our legislative body to pass this act: https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/3799?resultIndex=76 Write your congressman and ask them to support this bill to get silencers off the NFA list, it's now one of the best times to see if this new administration is going to put up or face another turnover come two years from now.

  14. Wanted to update this post with last Saturday's results. Shot this 8 round group, should be around 1.5". This gun has quickly became one of my favorites. Not one bobble, and accuracy with cheap ammo. This was with Wolf 123gr HP.

  17. Good luck this weekend everyone, made sure my rifle was still on this past weekend and got my little buddy, the propane heater ready to go! Haven't seen any bucks yet, but went bow hunting a few times and had some doe within range, but I suck and missed them both.

  23. It's funny you guys mention "buying in celebration", because that is almost exactly what I did. Admittedly I had bought a few evil rifles in the weeks leading up to the election. As I sat in bed Tuesday night with about $1000 worth of ammo in my Sportsman's Guide cart watching to see how the election went down...TRUMP WON! I was thrilled! I woke the wife up, did a few Tiger Woods fist pumps, and then was in such a good mood, I thought "F' it, I deserve a new rifle after the last eight years of tyranny!"....Then I realized it was 2 am, I could hardly see straight, and decided it was probably best to gun shop with a clear mind the next day. Woke up in the best mood since I was 10 on Christmas morning, did some clicking around on Mr. Gore's interweb, and picked up a 9mm AK pistol....weird I know, but it was the perfect "I'm buying this for no damn good reason other than I want it" firearm. So I concur, let the celebration buying commence, we've earned it ladies & gents!

  24. Here's the thing as far as I'm concerned, they removed both of their testicles when they took ARs of the shelf, they only got one of them back when they put the ARs back out. They will have to do something spectacular to earn the other one back.

  25. It appears you're correct! I've been on both, and would have sworn it was in Ky, but a google search proves me wrong. The one in Stearns, KY is still neat, as it tours an old coal mining town. Too many trains, and too much bourbon!

  26. Something that always fascinated me in that area was Scona Lodge, a former 5 star resort visited by some huge names until the 1990's. It features a golf course and a trout pond but all but a small trace of it is now gone. Primarily it was was accessed via ferry just below Calderwood Dam in Blount/Monroe Counties, depending on which side you were on because it was difficult to approach from the land side. Here is a write up http://garysoutdoorwanderings2.blogspot.com/2012/02/story-of-scona-lodge.html?m=1

  27. On straight line with no wire leads. Was fishing for tarpon, but the barracuda were hitting the bait literally as soon as it splashed. This was the biggest one, bit through the line as it was coming up and just happened to land in the boat so it counts. Pay no attention to the hat, it was the cheapest one I could find on the way to the marina lol

  30. I think it WILL help all hunting as my opinion is that nothing is normal with the late warm temps. I just got back from a Hog hunt this past week and even though it was cooler it was drier than a popcorn fart and loud as hell!

  36. I drive to Glock to have them look at my guns every once in a while. They install sights while you wait and they'll update the gun no charge. They do charge for the sights, though. 15 year warranty and it's all function tested (and test fired). As mentioned above - $57. They do charge tax at the factory. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  46. Don't ask, don't tell. They have no legal right to demand a copy of your HCP. If someone willingly complies, it's because honest people want to be honest. Which in this case would be dumb. Do they keep a copy of your driver's license in the event that you want to park a car on their property?
