Took this class last weekend. This was some very useful information and drills for what would be 80 -90 % of anticipated civilian defensive handgun usage. Most of it up close and personal. Also dealing with panicked crowds, your responsibilities as a ' citizen first responder'. The course exposed me to a lot of information that has not been this well covered in other classes. About 75% of the students were LEO. If one has their gun handling up to snuff, and if one carries, then this is some very important training. Also if you live around the Dover area, Jerry at Hilltop Firearms Training Center hosted this event. He is 'good folk', well versed in firearms training with good facilities. I am sure Dave will be back next year so I would recommend taking whatever class you can from him.2 points

Bear traps...they are Always the answer. Seriously though, wonder if timed sprinkers would scare them and wash away the "calling cards"?2 points

Except for a yearly sub to the NY Times for the crosswords, and political and charity donations, TGO is only place on the web I've ever contributed to. I'd likely do the lifetime thing if I were younger, but I'm hesitant to even buy green bananas any more. ;) - OS2 points

I'm calling BS on the power gird thing... This is nothin but more windbaggery and a hopeful attempt to make the populus more afraid of a "nameless, faceless, them" by a jackass that is on the public dole in the bureaucracy... The two most likely candidates for this sort of thing are China and Russia... They are trading partners... If we have this kind of problem, how long do ya think it would take even the yahoos peddlin this baloney to find the out....? My guess is about 30 minutes on a slow day.... I can buy the idea that north korea, iran, and some of the middle east yahoos might want ta do this... If they could have, the would have...? What keeps em frrom doin it...? Fear of retaliation and Providence... The "power grid" thing is just like "the astroid hittin the earth thing"... More hopeful attempts to conjure up a dooms day scenerio to make you, the citizen, more compliant, fearful, and ever dependent upon the superior intellect of the "washington insider bureaucratic class"... leroy the "anti BS curmudgeon" and foe of the bureaucracy...1 point

I hear the plug-in models take care of the 'stamina' problem. - K1 point

I made one for ARA practice similar to Ugly's, but I used PVC pipe for the uprights, and some wood 1x3 or 4's for crossties (bolted on) to hold the target/backer board. I glued the legs (bases) together but the uprights come apart from the bases with a twist. All of it fits in my Sport Trac bed with all the other "stuff" I feel I need for this past time. Chances of hitting the legs is slim in this style of shooting, but I've seen it happen when someone was trying to zero a scope.1 point

The power grid being down for more that a couple days would be truly devastating to the country. And that's if we didn't have any rioting and everyone acted peaceful and civil. Everyone is dependent on both power and each other. Just think, how long could you survive with no more electrical power right now? Everything runs on electrical power. The transformers that power our grid are custom made to order and take 6 months or more to build. We would be severely crippled. I wholeheartedly agree that we need to harden our grid and infrastructure and have multiple redundancies built in. Nobody thought a commercial airliner would reshape the NYC skyline. Until it happened.1 point

I have said many times that a Federal Government with the power to tell some states that they must allow handgun carry simultaneously gains the ability to tell all states that they cannot allow anyone to legally carry. No, thanks. Also, again, for those who want to bring up driver's licenses think about where many of the federal emissions controls on motor vehicles originated and where the impetus for more/stricter EPA regulations usually come from. Yep, Kalifornistan. Do you really want a National Concealed Carry system with regulations and requirements that originate on the left coast? I certainly do not. This really is an issue best left to the states. Further, even if national reciprocity were in place would any of you actually dare to try and carry in New York or California? Keep in mind that, just as with operating a motor vehicle, you would be responsible for knowing and obeying all the rules and regulations for firearm carry that are in place in those states and cities - and you can bet that those states and cities would place such onerous regulations on carry that nearly anything one did would be grounds for arrest and forfeiture of the firearm. In other words, a TN permit holder might be theoretically legal to carry in New York but it would still be so troublesome and have so many potential legal pitfalls (which could impact the ability to have a carry permit, period) that it would be practically impossible. I'll pass on that. Our current system may be flawed but expecting the federal government to make something 'better' is kind of like expecting Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies to perform precision surgery - it isn't going to happen and, IMO, we should really all know better.1 point

I'm not a huge fan of Sig pistols, especially their 1911's, but that looks pretty neat. For the money though, I'd rather shell out $1,500 for a Dan Wesson. I didn't see an MSRP listed though.1 point

In the past, I was a residential electrician. Grew up doing that. When the housing market crashed in 08-09, we lost our General Contractor and had to shut down due to nobody else had work either. Went into factory work, Was at Nissan in Smyrna for a while (quality inspection). Evidently it was quite difficult to find someone who could drive a manual transmission (I test drove the finished cars). Now I work at Bridgestone in Lavergne, building tires (22.5" and 24.5")1 point

Unfortunately, roughly 100% of the people that need a sign to tell them to stay off of someone else's property will ignore the sign anyway.1 point
