  1. Here's a Waffle House shooting that occurred on Thursday, April 19th that none of us heard anything about... http://www.ksla.com/story/38007080/man-shot-shot-inside-waffle-house-arrested-for-armed-robbery NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police have arrested a subject in connection with a Third District armed robbery. Ernest Thomas. 19, is charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery that occurred in the 2900 block of Elysian Fields. Thursday night, two men entered the Waffle House restaurant located in the armed with semiautomatic handguns. One man jumped on the counter and demanded money from the cashier. The perpetrator took $8 dollars from a customer. Thomas stood on the side by the counter covering the staff and serving as a lookout, police said. A customer who was armed with his personal firearm drew his weapon as the perpetrator approached, then ran from the scene. Thomas turned toward the armed customer and pointed his weapon at the customer. The customer fired several times and Thomas fled from the business, police said. The armed customer informed the detectives he believed he shot the subject. The witnesses saw the subjects flee in a white Chrysler south on Elysian Fields Ave. Detectives located a blood trail outside the business to the area where the waiting car had been parked. Detectives alerted local hospitals for any recent gunshot victims. A short time later, detectives learned a someone with several gunshot wounds to the back and arm had been dropped off on the emergency ramp at University Medical Center. Officers determined the man who was shot was Thomas. Detectives recovered the suspect’s bloody pants and sneakers which matched the description of the perpetrator. Hospital security footage showed a white Chrysler which matched the description of the perpetrators vehicle pull on to the ramp at a high rate of speed and the suspect exiting the vehicle and walking into the emergency room. The subject had been shot in the lower back, hip, and arm. Detectives checked with NOPD dispatch there had been no reports of gunshots in the city for the time period. The investigation remains open and active. More charges may be filed against Thomas.

  2. Bought a 1909 Argentine off a guy this past week, and don't know a ton about it yet. Thought everyone would appreciate it. I'm wondering what the differences are between this one and the 1891. I've loaded up 50 rounds of 7.65x53 to try out. She's a tall one Crest The bayonet looks like something Inigo Montoya would use to avenge the death of his father.

  3. The mauser you have has these improvements over the 1891. Gas relief hole in bolt. If a primer is punctured, the gas goes out the side instead of into your face. Double column magazine vs older single column. More positive feed, better extractor and ejector. Easier to load from stripper clips. That's a very pretty rifle. The 7.65mm was a in unusual cartridge mainly used by Argentina and Belgium.

  5. Another recommendation on a Verizon Jetpack. I’ve been using one for about 5 years and since unlimited data has become the norm it’s been great.

  7. My earliest memories include our first apartment, becoming aware I was in a crib and how to escape. Those early cribs did not have complex gate locking mechanisms as the ones today. 1972 - 73 time frame, We lived in Philadelphia, Dad had just transitioned from 4 years Army to the DoD supporting the same project at Frankfort Arsenal. It's strange what you remember. Our apartment building was named the Mayfair House with a park across the street. There was a bar off the lobby as you would see in a hotel. Apparently, NOT in a good section of modern day Philly. Our family car was a VW Karmen Ghia until we moved to the 'burbs in '74

When he described his leadership as "amazing" --- well, it's amazing all right! http://www.foxnews.c...iff-israel.html Let's see if the main stream media even picks this story up.

  13. As to love and attention from the media, if the hero had just shot the perp, I vote yes for the attention, which would be brief, and no for the love. I don't see any hint of media ever making any defensive gun use look good.

  16. I don't know anything about Illinois gun laws, but it seems to me likely that there's a process for having the FOID restored after it is cancelled. In this guy's case I'd think a mental evaluation would be a condition for getting his FOID back. So far there's no evidence that any process was followed; the cops just gave the guns back to the father (Why? It wasn't his property) and the father, despite saying he wouldn't give them to his son, did exactly that. Seems like the father should face some criminal and civil charges in Illinois, and whoever decided to return the guns to the father should be fired and permanently ineligible to work in law enforcement.

  20. When it comes to red dots in this price range, I’m a big fan of Primary Arms. I have one of their advanced micro red dots on an AR. While I wouldn’t call it a “go to war” sight, it’s rugged, holds zero, has great battery life, and clear glass. All in all it’s a much better product than one would expect for its price point.
