  3. UT has made some great strides in improving their team/system in the last two years. That said, they're still not in the elite class of CFB. Sure they beat Florida, so did Vandy, beat Alabama, good win but gave up 49 points. Smoked by Georgia & never showed up in Columbia. Great teams find a way to win, Ohio St., TCU & Michigan showed that yesterday. They're 9-2, great season so far, I hope they continue their quest for excellence. Hope Hooker & others injured recover completely & easily.

  8. Selling a CZ SP01 Tactical. Includes one set of LOK Bogey Black Thin Grips, Dawson blacked out rear and fiber front sights, 4 extra Mec Gar flush fit magazines, one set of LOK standard full checkered grips in Blue/Black and finally a Comp Tac Holster Right Hand. I find myself shooting my (gasp!) polymer framed pistols more. (Please forgive my blasphemy of the CZ DA/SA.) Its a great pistol but I do find myself shooting the polymer pistols I own much more often. I am trying to cull the herd down to the same platform for competition/range/defensive use so I have the same grip, index, etc...between compact, full and optics, blah blah blah. Everything one needs to start competing or just to have a fun range toy. Selling for $875. Thanks for looking.

  9. Well, I can't say that part of the house does have enough insulation now. If anyone ever falls in, they will be lost forever. It's 2 foot minimum everywhere.

  10. It's a negligent discharge when holstering/unholstering the gun. It can happen with any gun by a person using poor handling techniques, but It's theoretically more likely to occur in a striker fired pistol than a gun with a manual safety, an SA revolver, or a DA revolver with a 100 lb. trigger. Strikers do have safeties, but not a manually actuated lever to lower a firing pin block or allow the trigger to move as a manual safety gun would have. The person effectively shoots themselves in the leg, the foot, or at least gets a nice powder burn on the thigh and a brown stain in their pants. Since Glocks are by far the most common and well-known striker-fired pistols, it's known as "Glock leg". It's an overblown thing commonly used as a rallying cry by people who like big heavy steel revolvers and 1911s and have an irrational need to hate the plastic fantastics. In the context DocHawk mentioned it with holsterless carry, a striker fired pistol should never be carried with one in the chamber. Personally, I'd say that's true of a DA/SA with a manual safety too without a holster. One cause of this very uncommon issue is something like a shirt tail getting in the way and "pulling" the trigger as the gun is reholstered. Another is the shooter having their finger on the trigger as they draw or reholster. Practicing good trigger discipline and clothing management during your dry fire draw/holster movements with an unloaded gun on a regular basis is a really good way to mitigate the risk, no matter what/how you carry.

  11. Looking to buy a used Colt Python & Anaconda.. Worn, broken in.. exactly what I want…a shooter. I have a few old Smiths, but have never experienced shooting the old Colts. Would like to buy some shooter grade stuff… some that I won’t mind loading some hand loads in, and enjoying.

  12. Killed my first deer this am about 7:15. Had 4 pts + 2 smaller points, not quite 1". One shot & he dropped like a puppet with his strings cut. A 45/70 don't mess around. This was a very healthy deer * & heavy. My bud had to take his John Deere tractor with hay fork to load it on the tailgate.

  14. Our newly elected Republican Super Majority House Caucus is doing its Annual Retreat this weekend up at Paris Landing. The Freshman Class will be set upon and told what they can and cannot do by the Old Timers League. No controversial bills first year, sit and listen, be inconspicuous and such, pay no attention to that Constitution, it is just words on a piece of paper. I plan on talking to my Rep. as soon as he is loose, as the agenda for the coming session will be the main focus of conversation. I suggest anyone interested in their Rights as identified with respect to arms do the same as soon as possible. Call your Representative's Nashville office and ask for their cell phone number (if you do not already have it) and a call back to talk about what was discussed at the retreat. It is after all, your business they hold in the palm of their hands...

  16. Their reputation is horrible. It’s both earned and overblown at the same time. They’re the biggest trucking company in the US, so it follows that they’ll appear to be involved in a larger number of accidents simply due to the number of trucks on the road. At the same time they have a lot of accidents. Like, a LOT.

  24. A Remington Nylon 66 purchased in 1969 when I was 13 at the local hardware store. I think I paid about $60, which was quite a stretch for me. I remember paying the man and walking out with the unserialised rifle and a couple boxes of ammo. (My dad was with me, I'm sure old man Demopolis wouldn't have sold it to me had I been alone.) And in those days a kid could walk down the street with a 22 and a couple of dead rabbits without causing any stir at all. I still have the rifle and still shoot it fairly often. It's been trouble-free all these years. Heck, I might pull it out and shoot it today!

  27. I did indeed, and I apologize. Please forgive me and extend me a little grace in understanding; having given up my dream home, my lifelong friends, my extended family, my community ties, and my life's work all because of a state that I could no longer support with my tax dollars, almost no insult could cut closer to my bone than calling me Californian.

  28. Good post, Defender. I was just editing my post when yours came through, with essentially the same info. Note Ayoob and I are not in overall disagreement - he cites the *origins* of the term. He says it is not pejorative. However, whenever I have used the term or heard it used, we are specifically describing an undesirable carry method, and usually pejorative describing the person carrying. Compromises must always be made in carry. Size and caliber vs concealment. Carry position vs clothing and physique. Quick detach holster vs fixed belt loops. Or in the case of Mexican carry, old school concealment and ditchability vs going unarmed. It isn't *racially* charged by nature... thats not what I am saying, although it now does paint an associative picture in professional shooting circles. The people who are stereotypically encountered today conducting Mexican Carry are not independent vaqueros defending their way of life from an overbearing tyrannical government. And those who *are* living as modern-day vaqueros have modern-day holster options, if they are educated.

  29. Well, could be that some use it as a derogatory term, but then, there’s this, which I think may have some basis in historical fact: https://legionary.com/mexican-carry-what-is-it-and-should-you-be-using-it/ and this, by a well recognized member of the gun community: Massad Ayoob says: The [Mexican Carry] term is not perjorative. It arose long ago among gun people. In homage to proud Mexican men of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Beset by trants who stripped them of liberties, including the right to carry guns if they were not part of the political elite, these defiant citizens.... needed to be able to ditch the gun to be retrieved later if they were about to have contact with Federales, and since a holster could not be so quickly ditched and would be prima facie evidence of resistance to tyrants' law, the holster was dispensed with. - The Gun Digest Book of Concealed Carry

  30. Well ... There's a California translation if I've ever seen one. I believe it originated more from the western tradition of holster less waistband carry. Typical of the time south of the border. Not sure it's a racially charged degredation of Hispanic gangs. Using your logic, it would have been better addressed as the "Compton carry" or better yet the "Burress Tuck" And I'm an authority because much of my family is Hispanic, first generation American from Mexico.

  31. My first was a Stevens 530a 16ga double barrel that my dad bought new in the 1950s. Still have it and it will be passed down to one of my boys. It has some wear but still tight as a new one. It's killed many squirrels, quite a few rabbits, and doves,

  35. My first was a Remington 870 in the mid 90’s. My stepbrother and I both got one for Christmas. The first semiauto I shot was a Browning SA-22. Jamomatic for some reason. When dad passed I received 3 22lr’s he had including a 22lr/22short single shot bolt action youth model he and my aunt learned to shoot on. It’ll still click but I’ve never gotten it out.

  37. Mine was a Winchester 37a 410 single shot purchased from the local Co-op in Sevierville back in the mid 70s. Still have it, and my oldest son killed his first squirrel with it as well. As a side note, after my dad passed several years ago, digging through old papers, found the owners manual to the same shotgun....lots of memories even a tear writing this post response.

  39. The 340PD is probably the ultimate J-Frame sized .357/.38 pistol. It’s lightweight and just disappears. That light weight also might cure you of wanting to shoot it a bunch with full house .357 loads.

  40. I think I've shared it before, but this was my grandfather's duty gun when he was a police officer back in the 60's. Smith & Wesson Model 19. He left it to my dad and I inherited it when my dad passed away. This is one of those guns that my kids will inherit one day, and hopefully their kids as well.

  44. 99% of the time I carry OWB at about 3:30. Doesn't matter what gun, what size or what holster. I dress according to where I'm going and what I'm doing. I prefer leather holsters. On very rare occasions I might pocket carry something small.
