@ TN Phil - The Taurus you mentioned is probably fine. A Ruger LCP or LC380, Shield, Taurus 605, Charter Arms .357, Rock Island M206, or used Glock would also serve just fine and not break the bank. If I had it to do over again, I would buy my first carry gun and then buy a good belt and holster, plenty of ammo, a way to carry reloads, a good light, frequent trips to the range, and classes on practical shooting - before buying another gun. You are starting a journey, not choosing a destination, and this stuff would help you get down the road smoothly.4 points

The Jericho 941RB is a niche within a niche, an all steel, compact carry version of the Jericho 941 series. These are my favorite semiauto, da/sa pistols. They’re heavy, but relatively small, carry 13+1 rounds of 9mm, and just look and feel amazing in the hand. Because of the weight and design, the RB is also one of the softest shooting compact 9mm pistols I’ve ever used. SA trigger pull is nice and crisp, and the DA is better than any stock CZ I’ve owned. Only design changes I would like would be moving the deocker to the frame like a CZ P-01/PCR, and beveled edges in the front muzzle like Sig does for the classic P series. An all stainless option would’ve been amazing as well! Unfortunately, these have been out of production for several years now.2 points

My nephew came over today and had a used Sig 226 9 MM he purchased from the guy that purchased it new. We took it to my range and ran 30 rounds through it. He wanted to hold down the round count through it. Round total is now 48. The 226 looked brand new and not a scratch on it nor any holster wear. Still in original box with all paperwork. Great pistol. Haven't met a Sig I haven't liked. I gave my Sig 229 to my grandson. He is a 40 cal fan. Edited to add. My wife said for me to give our nephew a gun. Gave him my new 686 + 3 inch, when I am through with it. Also gave my Grandson my Ruger MIni 14 Ranch Hand 223/556 2nd generation carbine when he was here last week. Going to take it to him in Sept when we travel to S Carolina and let him borrow it until I am through with it. Really thinning my collection so my wife will not be bothered with giving them away.2 points

The Taurus would be a good starter. I’ve owned one for 7 or 8 years. Not had any issues with it. But it’s not a pistol I carry. If you wanted to step up, a used police trade-in pistol might be the answer for just a little more money.2 points

I’m a Glock and 1911 guy.I trimmed the herd to just those two pistols years ago.A few weeks back I won a Springfield XD Mod 3. It’s the newest version of the XD that came out last year. They sell for around $300.Already cut for an optic, slide serrations look great, fiber optic FS,the trigger isn’t bad.So far I have 300 rds through it and it’s been 100% and very accurate to boot. It’s roughly the same size as the Glock 45/19x.2 points

Top tier carry kit here. Just moving on to something else. Will come with everything you get from the factory, as well as the Accur8 sights from Night Fision installed, and the Shield Arms Gen 3 S15 carry kit. (3 mags and the metal mag catch). Carried lightly and shot little. I am camping now but will get pics up as soon as I get home. It’s all in excellent shape though. $550 in the Memphis / Collierville / West TN area.1 point

Ruger Redhawk in 44 mag. Magna ported, crown barrel, rail, sling swivels and trigger job. I do not know who did it as I am not the original owner of this gun. Whoever it was, did an immaculate job. Gun is extremely accurate and beautiful. Comes with Pachmyer grips as well as a set of grips I picked up at a gun show. The grips I picked up from the gun show are not in great shape. Includes a Vortex Spark and 13 rounds of 44 mag hunting ammunition. This is a great hog or deer set up. $1500 for everything. Can provide more pics if needed. Trade Options - good with multiple and can even up either way with cash. Possible Quality or Custom 10/22 Volquartsen or Tactical Solutions Volquartsen 22 Pistol Ruger Red or Gold Label 12 guage Beretta or Browning over under or side by side, 12 gauge. M4 - 1301 or JM shotgun Marlin JM Gold 39a AR or AR10 of equal value Cowboy action 9mm revolvers Possible 308 bolt action of equal value HK MP5 or SP5 with pistol brace Tikka T3X Ace in 308 CZ Shadow 2 not the compact1 point

Personally, I’d move up to the Shield Plus. I fail to see a downside.1 point

Shield 1.0 for 7-8 yrs for me. If I need something bigger it’s the 1.0 compact that I have a dot on. Haven’t seen or shot anything else I like better.1 point

Great! Am just curious why you are trying to keep the round count down on the P226? That is a workhorse of a firearm.1 point

This is not the way we do it on TGO- If you want to low ball someone do it in a private PM- For new members maybe you should read the rules before posting- But it could be your just a troll and can't read-1 point

IMHO, the right philosophy is to get yourself armed as fast as possible with the best gun you can afford. Your life will NOT be in jeopardy if it's a $250 Taurus instead of a $500 <insert brand that will better impress us on the internet>. If you like guns, you'll eventually want to upgrade to something with features you like better, but for now I think you're making a solid choice on a solid firearm, which is better than waiting until you have 60-80% more money saved up.1 point

Don’t get me wrong, a Taurus is adequate, but honestly, as I am reading it, I think your mindset on it is a bit messed up. You are naturally correct in focusing on carry gun before the (presumably more expensive) fun gun in a couple of months. But the carry gun is life saving equipment, and therefore not something to skimp on. Especially when significantly better arms to be had for minimal price differences. On this forum you can often see well cared for Glocks (for example) go $400 or less. Additionally (and this part often gets overlooked) all the other equipment like spare parts, magazines, and (especially) holsters are ubiquitous. I recommend people build these costs into the initial investment for the best return. Lastly, have you shot numerous models, to include the Taurus, for firsthand experience? Online opinions (mine included) mean Jack squat in the face of personal experience.1 point

X'lent choice for a tux gun. I found a Kimber s-a Micro 9 a couple years ago and sometimes vary with my PPK. Hard to top that DA/SA PPK for a tux carry tho. I use a high belly band at my armpit for "No-can-see". That may be a two seconds slower access, but it's way better than my Kung-foo.0 points
