  3. Were his actions murder, or justified homicide I think is what tnguy meant to ask - correct me if I'm wrong tnguy.   Everything the Germans did during WWII was 'legal' and approved by the duly elected government...  so by your line of thinking Jews who fought back in the Warsaw Ghettos were just criminals that needed to be put down?     Anne Frank and her family we're just common criminals who broke the law and had no right to fight back to keep from being deported?   Can we not agree that at some point a government crosses a line, starts violating rights of it's citizens and at that point using force to save yourself, even if that force is offensive in nature is justified, and not murder?   If we can agree on that point, then who gets to decided where that line is?

  6. I work in the industry in my day job. I hear all manner of conspiracy theory crap every day....everything from "The military is using .22s to practice, to homeland security has a new .22 machine gun (yes someone really said that) to the govt is buying it all and throwing it in the ocean.....   The truth is far more simple...it is simply a matter of demand outstripping the supply chain. More people probably own .22s (and shoot them) than anything else. You would think nothing of burning up a brick of .22s on a Sunday afternoon with the kids...but you probably wouldn't shoot 500 rounds of 30/30 in a lifetime. So you have a caliber that EVERY ONE owns and that people actually shoot a lot of and everyone is competing for the same resources at the same time.    Using rough numbers we can say that there are 100 million gun owners in the US. Under normal times only about 20% of them actually  buy on a regular basis (20 million people). And they are normally not ALL buying at the same time.  But when within a 6 week time span (Nov 2012 to Jan 2013) you see Obama get reelected, a horrific school shooting, and the consequent push by dems to pass more gun control the percentage of active buyers multiplies exponentially. The 20% of regular buyers begin buying anywhere from 10 to 100 times what they would normally be trying to buy and 70 million of the other 80 million gun owners who don't normally buy much at all started buying in earnest too... So you have an industry that in normal times is essentially at full capacity in order to service 20 million people now essentially trying to service the equivalent of 300-400 + million people. There is NO WAY (even running 24/7) for them to catch up anytime soon ...at least as long as people KEEP BUYING.   Think in terms of a snow storm forecast...what does everyone do? Go buy milk and bread. If you go to the store late you won't find any milk or bread. Why? Because people who don't even drink milk or eat bread on a regular basis think they need to go buy it in case they get snowed in. It defies logic but it happens. But this time the forecast is for the biggest storm in history...and the forecast is the same EVERY DAY for 5 MONTHS. That is what happened in the ammo industry. If people stopped buying ammo for 6 months it MIGHT start getting back to normal. The 1st time Obama got elected it took almost 2 years to get back to "normal" again and this was FAR worse than then.....

  7.   This would be awesome.  It would probably be as awesome as Cesaer and Pompei marching Roman legions at one another and them killing the sh** outa each other over stuff that could have been resolved in the Senate.   The existence of a well armed society is all we need.  When things start simmering the libs back down for a bit.  They'll never go full retard.  They'll just keep changing the perception of what "freedom" is until not enough people care any more.  That sucks.  I do my part by making sure I'm armed and making sure to raise my kids to know what liberty is.  And I drink.

  10. Back when I was just a kid I worked for a company after high school each day for a full shift and it was a family owned company. Right after I went to work there I learned there was a steel workers Union trying to get their foot in the door. They had been trying for about two years and had not made it yet. I had a guy that worked there ask my how I felt about the plant going union and I said I think it would suck and he walked away. When I got out of school I kept the job and I saw the man that owned that company help out a lot of people that fell on hard times. sickness, deaths in a family, even if the guys kids just needed shoes and clothes to begin school with he made sure they had the money. Every 4th of July he would pay to have an amusement Park come and set up for the entire weekend and it was all free. Even the food. Every Thanks giving every employee got a huge basket of food and a Turkey. At Christmas every employee got another basket full of food and a ham was in the basket. I mean this guy didn't have 10 or 15 employees. They ran 2 shifts and each shift has about 200 people working or more on it. Everyone got a 1 week paid vacation the first year and after 5 years you got 2 weeks paid. Paid time and a half for overtime. I mean the guy ran a great company. I was getting ready to enter the military so I had left the job but he told me when I returned I would have a job. Well I had made a few friends while there and we wrote back and forth and I learned that about a year later after I left all at once there was a walk out and people wanted to vote in a Union. And they did and that was in May of 1968 and the employees got a 2 year contract with the union and an across the board 80 cents an hour raise. And Union Dues which consumed about all of that 80 Cents raise they got which quite a few there was husbands and wives both working there paying double dues. The owner didn't say one word about them and their union. Even gave the guy from the union an office all of his own. About a week later a guy got hurt while at home and couldn't come to work and had a large family. When he was able to get up and out with the cast on his leg he came to the owner and asked him about a loan. All the owner did was tell the man to go ask your union man for a loan and pointed to his office. Needless to say the man didn't get no loan. Come 4th of July they didn't get an amusement park all free either which had been going on for about 20 years. Thanks giving came and went along with Christmas and there was no food baskets. You see unions don't give those or loans or amusement parks. All they do is collective bargaining for your contracts on raises and benefits and take money from you for dues. During the first year of the contract the owner because turning a lot of jobs into automated positions and began putting in robotic lines to do the work the humans were doing and the robots didn't have a union so he could work them 24/7 with out paying overtime. By the time the 2 year contract was up the plant was about 70% automated. Union guys office was empty. He had moved on about 5 months earlier. When the contract was up the union was gone but they got paid right up until the last day of that contract and dues were taken out for exactly 24 months but the Union was gone because the number of employees had dropped to make it not profitable for them to be their. The union could not force him to keep people employed when that persons position was taken by a robot. Once the plant went almost completely robotic the Owner and his family sold it, moved out west where they had another plant operated by people. Never heard any more about them after that but I did learn a lot about Unions and I wasn't even there. Got a lot of letters keeping me updated..................................jmho

I have had about 10 acid blondies in my humidor now for over a year, and have not been keeping the humidifier wet for just as long. Well I finally decided to get my humidor back in shape (partly because of this thread) and ordered a new crystal humidifier kit that will be here today. So are the blondies too far gone? or can they be brought back to life after a month or two in a properly humidified humidor?[/quote] I am not an expert, but they should reabsorb moisture slowly. May not be perfect, but probably smokable. This warm weather promoted a grill night, so thus: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. I would argue that the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising is exactly on point...  they started killing Germans first ;)  (By first I mean the Germans on site were just deporting Jews, instead of actively marching them into gas chambers/shooting them).  Also keep in mind they executed Jews police officers, collaborators, etc.   Again, everything the German's did in Warsaw was 'legal' under German law, and carried out by a 'duly elected' government.

I know this isn't really "fair" of me to make this observation but I can't help but wonder if we aren't seeing the natural result of a Government Motors vehicle built by UAW workers.   I mean...putting government and a union together to get something done...is it any wonder that the damn thing would catch fire! :)

  19. The thing which "amuses" me most is how otherwise sensible folk get bamboozled into fear buying reactions in response to Internet nonsense perpetuated by gougers and other private sellers in firearms, who use scare tactics sent in "bold 20 font" to sell ammo at "unreasonable prices. Things like, "the last smelter in US closing = no more ammo," or "Obama is going to take all your guns." Or, "DHS is buying all the .22LR to ensure that no kids get to shoot." or "The government is buying all the .22LR ammunition, buy mine for 3 times what I paid for it yesterday at Walmart."  Ok, I haven't seen the last one but that is the intent of them all.  It pains me to see gun guys "doing it" to gun guys.  I get the current surge in consumption due to various factors, but it does bother me that our own shooting sports brethren would perpetuate myths to profit on fear, and doubly pains me to see gullible folk figuratively and literally "buy" into it.

  22. Union "democracy" is hardly the model of free assembly or assopciation that you cite. In fact, the very fact that the Unions have used the government to prevent their member from being able to vote anonymously, or to assemble or meet outside of Union presence, or to be able to negotiate with the company outside of Union presence flies in the face of the Constitution on many levels. What started out as a needed median has become an incredible roadblock to workers.

  23. Choice is sacred to the left - but only as long as you choose correctly.  No doesn't mean no.  Now if there were any possibility of faking ballots, they'd have 'won' already - but since they can't fake it they'll lawyer it - take it to the NLRB and claim that 'outside influence' by a Tennessee Senator was wrong, although the 'outside influence' by Obama was just fine.

  24. I am soooo ready!  How about you?  What signs have you seen?   Yesterday, I had to drive by a swampy area on my way to lunch, and I heard the first sounds of spring, those spring frogs aka spring southern peeper frogs, sure were in concert loudly.  Other than Daytona 500 this weekend, this is truly the first nature's sign of spring I have seen this year.  This has been truly a bad winter by Tennessee (East) standards.   I remember last year, my Easter flowers were in full bloom in late January.  This year, the same flowers have not even broke the ground yet.  One other sign, not a nature sign, but my young boys have their first baseball practice of the season 2 weeks from this Saturday.  That is always a sign of Spring.  I can't wait to start up my shooting clays, and my soon 10 year old will get to join me this year with his soon to be owned O/U 410.  This is a gun forum, I had throw that one in!

As long as people believe they have a legitimate right to use violence and coercion to rule others, we will have a screwed up state of affairs. 37. The 7th and the 9th Federal District Courts have fallen right in line with the SCOTUS and Heller. The Illinois State Supreme Court has ruled that infringing on carry off your property is a violation of the 2nd amendment. Who here that has been in this battle for the last 40 years ever thought they would see this much action in a couple of years. The 7th and the 9th making pro-gun rulings????? I got really frustrated when some of the folks here new to this said we need to take baby steps. We have been doing that all our lives. Some of these crazy laws being passed in other states will not stand. But don’t let what’s going on in those states get you so upset you forget what’s going on here. The final baby step here has been proposed.

  38. I grew up in the North were the Unions thrived back in the 50's and 60's. The UAW, The USS Worker unions, The Teamsters, The Dock Workers and so on and so forth. When the EPA was created and they set upon their first target the Auto Industry why didn't the unions step up and say Whoa, Hold on just a second and lets rethink your plans here. Instead they sat back and did nothing except continue to collect their Union Dues. When the EPA turned their attention to the Steel mills after destroying the auto maker companies that began putting demands on the Steel Mills that they knew would be impossible goals and the almighty Iron and Steel Workers unions stood stood idly by and never say whoa wait just a minute and lest look at these so called new rules and regulations and see if we can't work something out. Nope they sat there on their hands with their mouths shut and did exactly nothing to help all those Iron and Steel workers save their jobs. The Teamsters Union is another joke that did nothing to help their members when things began to go down the tubes. But they still expected to collect their union dues just like the UAW did and the Steel Workers unions did right up to the bitter end when the jobs were going to China. I guess people have given up looking for Jimmy Hoffa Sr. by now but Jr. is walking right in his foot steps. There was videos back last year during that Teachers Strike in Wisconsin when they recalled the newly elected Governor for a new vote when he had to make some tough decisions about the over whelming money the state was paying to their teachers and it was because of the Teachers union demands and he refused to meet the demands and raise taxes and in the videos it showed thugs beating people and knocking people down and kicking them because they were against the union demands.  The union got their recall vote and the Governor elect got re-elected by even a larger margin than he did in the first election. The Union didn't get the demands and the teachers went back to work with a cut in benefits the union was demanding.  Someone mentioned in an earlier post that people have smartened up to Unions. Yes they have and the days of the Strong Arm Threatening Union organizers are pretty much over. I think a great many people saw that last year in Wisconsin....................jmho

  39.   Now it's not just demand for actual shooting but mindset. In the past most folks that shot .22 a few times a year, even monthly or so, just kept a brick or less of ammo around, as could buy it whenever they needed it on short notice.   Now with "once bit twice shy" mentality,  everybody sees the need to stash a case or more, so you're looking at tenfold increase in demand or more, just due to that. Vicious cycle.   - OS

  40. No argument about the statutes Bert, they are there. My point is the enforcement of them. In my neck of the woods there are pictures in the newspaper every summer of large dead rattlesnakes, who killed it and where. And to my knowledge not one has ever been prosecuted. Most people that see a rattler or cottonmouth in their yard, the place where their children or grandchildren play, don't call a licensed nuisance wildlife wrangler.

  41. It's beyond frustrating at this point. I've sort of hit it off with one of the clerks at Wal-Mart and he was telling me the last shipment that had .22's on board was over 50 bricks of the 550 count Federal. Do you want to know how long it lasted?   5 minutes. :surrender:      Like I said, if .22lr ever becomes readily available again you'll see me on an episode of Hoarders.

  44.   It's an expansion, not a move. That gives them lots of flexibility. And you gotta figure too, these manufacturers shop several different states so they can get the best deal to offset capital. Picking up and moving a plant, complete with lapses in production is a whole nuther animal. The little guys are doing it in some cases, but not the big boys.   From what I've read, they're opening this new plant in Hunstville. That means there's a local pool of engineers and top notch machinists that you don't find in most places. I'm going to guess that Remington knows what they're doing, and will pull it off without even getting bruised. When it comes to the folks left in NY, it won't be the first time a bunch of liberal politicians killed a bunch of jobs. I remember the mass exodus out of Michigan in the late '70's. The smart ones left.

  45. I don't doubt that a lot of it is panic buying but I still put most of the blame on the Walmart Campers and other places that cater to these kind of people just as much. And I don't just blame the scalpers as much as I blame to stores that allow it to take place. You will never convince me that the management does no know what is going on. They should have stepped in a long time ago and put and end to it. It is not just Walmart but all of the stores like Academy, Dicks, and all the big box stores doing it which in turn is putting major pressure on the small business owners that own Gun Stores. Some folks said it is just good competition. I say it is pure good old greed. They have to know that there are employees taking payoffs to favor a small group of the same people every time a load comes in and know exactly which days to be there. The guy at NRange told me that he has a standing order for 22lr from his distributors and he never knows till he opens the boxes whether he will have 22 lr's in the box or not that day. When he does they put them out with a limit on how many per person. He also said he will not say yes or no to someone calling asking if they have any. He just tells them they need to come in and see. I don't know how true that is because I have never called but I don't think he had a reason to lie about it............jmho
