  1. As some of you know from my postings, I am currently in Florida caring for my father. He is a WWII vet and will be 89 on New Years. I am trying to piece together his service record while I can. His short term memory is gone but still sharp on the old days. He doesn't speak much on his service. What he has told me is, that he was in some of the first groups into the concentration camps at wars end. If anyone is interested I will post whatever else he can relate. He has a Bronze Star in his "Army Stuff" As he calls it. Not sure what exactly it's for yet. He says he was in the wrong place at the right time."........

  2. The best, yes BEST, ammo to use in a 22 pistol if that is all you have for defense is the Aguila 60 grain SSS. It creates a larger permanent wound channel and penetrates over 8" into gelatin. It tumbles immediately upon impact if it is not already tumbling in the air. Stingers are the worst choice because they need barrel length to get the velocities they claim. I have chornographed a lot of the "hyper velocity" stuff in short barrels and most will not break 1,050 fps. Combine that will the 30-32 grain bullet and you have what is equal to a 22 short.   Second choice would be the CCI Velocitor. It too suffers from reduced velocities in the short barreled pistols but it also has a 40 grain bullet which works well for going deep.   I have chronographed the SSS in a Taurus PLY22 and it average 790 fps. May not seem like a lot but that is within 25 fps of what is chronographs in most rifles.   Here are a few videos of the SSS in gelatin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GwRgIpbflA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T10BMy6oq0

  3.   It is pretty sad. I've never felt the need to brag about my time as a Space Shuttle Door Gunner as part of Task Force 320 (twice as elite as TF160), Operational Detachment Whiskey. Just having served is reward enough. Our motto was, "I could tell you about our missions, but BANG, you're dead."

  4.   Same way they always do, "Grants."  They attach whatever requirement is envogue at the time to "free" money and equipment. The Locals can't resist, suck off the Federal tit, and then are beholdened. Happens all the time.   I'm actually proud to say that the Command Staff at my Dept doesn't buy into this behavior.  But, that is rare.

  5. When I saw this video yesterday I got really ticked off.  The man impersonating a Ranger is quite pathetic (he has a long and chronicled history of engaging in such behavior), but that isn't what got me upset.  I got upset with how the veteran filming this video was behaving in public and even more so considering it was in front of his son.  Served or not, his behavior and language in public speaks volumes to me about his character or at least his judgement.   I am all for shaming those who seek accolades for something they have not done or earned.  If poseurs gain some financial benefit from their deception, especially from public funds,  then they should be arrested, fined, and made to pay reparations.  That said, there is a right way and a wrong way to shame someone.  Don't be a total horse's ass when calling someone out.  By doing so, you sink to the poseur's level, and you are also creating a situation that has the possibility of becoming violent even deadly.  One might not be concerned for their own safety, but this is a public place, so they should be considerate of those around them.  From the training I have taken/taking, I was taught it was best to remove myself from confrontational situations, not create them.

  6. Another WW2 vet lost.   I did not personally know this man but had met him a few times at Walmart.  I never got to know him beyond the smile,  hi, and thank you.   I wish I had got to know him.  I never new he was a vet.     http://knoxvillenews.tn.newsmemory.com/publink.php?shareid=11f348afd0       In my life, I have met 2 people that fought at Iwo Jima, one when I was so young 4-5 I really didn't understand until years later what he was talking about and Frank Lloyd Pryor that I never got to know.  I only learned about his past after he passed.   Just felt like sharing this.  (I found out this morning before work when I first went to Walmart and they had a memorial right at the door he normally worked at. ) I have to give it to Walmart that I feel they did a good thing to honor him.

  10. A very good old friend of mine just sent me this...............    THE BACK NINE I FIRST STARTED READING THIS EMAIL & WAS READING FAST UNTIL I REACHED THE THIRD SENTENCE. I STOPPED AND STARTED OVER READING SLOWER AND THINKING ABOUT EVERY WORD. THIS EMAIL IS VERY THOUGHT PROVOKING. MAKES YOU STOP AND THINK. READ SLOWLY!  AND THEN IT IS WINTER  You know ... time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is... the back nine of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that I was only on the first hole and the back nine was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.  But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting gray...they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change...Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit! And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though Im on the back nine, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over on this earth...it's over. A new adventure will begin! Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime. So, if you're not on the back nine yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether youre on the back nine or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!! "Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one. LIVE IT WELL! ENJOY TODAY! DO SOMETHING FUN! BE HAPPY ! HAVE A GREAT DAY Remember "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver. LIVE HAPPY IN 2015! LASTLY, CONSIDER THIS: ~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect! Going out is good.. Coming home is better! You forget names.... But it's OK because some people forgot they even knew you!!! You realize you're never going to be really good at anything like golf. The things you used to care to do, you aren't as interested in anymore, but you really do care that you aren't as interested. You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV 'ON' than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep". You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch.. You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?"..."when?"... ??? You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"?!!! What used to be freckles are now liver spots. Everybody whispers. You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never wear.  But Old is good in some things: Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS!! Stay well, "OLD FRIENDS!" Send this on to other "Old Friends!" and let them laugh in AGREEMENT!!! It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived. TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN; YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LAST  Do Not Regret Growing Older. It is a Privilege Denied to Many.

  15. What is really sad is a lot of these imposters, from what I have found, have actually been in the military. Most are some sort of support MOS like a cook or driver or supply. That lets them know enough to BS 99% of the people they meet. But when they meet the 1% who are actually real deal Ranger, SF, PJ, MARSOC, SEAL it is obvious those that lie are full of it.

  23. I hope you didn't lower it because you didn't serve; no need to. The military is not for everyone, and we need to have the homefront supported as well. At Rural King I was getting some fencing supplies and after I paid she said, next time you should ask for the military discount. I asked if she could just adjust it and she said no, ok I left. Couple days later I went for something else and was given the discount, a day after I went again and the cashier tells me they don't let new cashiers give a discount; Crazy place. A few places only give it to active duty, not retirees, it don't bother me either way. It usually doesn't amount to much, at least not enough to make a big deal about it, or lie to get it.

  24. I believe it counts at Stolen Valor.   One I bet he was there stopping hoping to get discounts because of the uniform. Most shop keepers would not know what to look for.   Second, had the person behind the camera been wrong, I suspect he would have produced Military ID and or called a police officer about the man harassing him.      A few weeks ago, in a store in Gatlingburg a girl gave a guy in front of me a military discount and she thought I might have been.   She ask me if I had a military ID, I just kinda lower my head a little and said I never severed.  She said by the way I held myself she thought I must have been former military.  I paid full price as I expected.

  27. Yeah, there's still a lot of loose ends to tie up.   Robo Cop still needs to be dealt with, the mayhem vote, change by-laws to allow Grimm Bstdrds SOA membership. August Marks is still in jail, the homeless bag lady keeps showing up, his two kids and seems their making a point with Jackson that something is wrong with his leg / hip, as he about fell over getting up from a chair and limping. The twisted mind of Kurt Sutter just doesn't arbitrarily draw your attention to something for no reason.   I see Wendy and Nero heading to his farm with Jax's kids and living happily ever after. I see Venus giving Tig HIV, hepatitis, herpes, gonorrhea, cold sores, and 27 other STD'S and too sick to play in next seasons "Justified". Then Tig will propose marriage to Venus :stunned:  I see Chucky inventing new dexterous fingers and continuing with his CMD.   Chibs and Jeri, well, anyones guess?   Sorry to give away next Tuesday's final episode guys.

  33. Damn tanker truck blocking HYW109. Traffic was awful. Scores have been posted: https://practiscore.com/results.php?uuid=D1A59F59-3534-4734-A1EC-C10D8191B2BE I am sorry we could not get the 5th stage in. We had 6 new shooters. When they learn the sport, it will run much smoother. Started 30 mins late, traffic was a mess because of the accidents. 1 squad had to reshoot an entire stage because of the stage deletion. I believe we can get 5 stages for 20-25 shooters. We should be able to get 4 stages for 26-35 shooters. Hope everyone had a great time.

  34. This.   I have been through Fighting Rifle and Advanced Fighting Rifle.  Distances were not very long.  A 3-9x40 scope would not be a good fit for the class.  Use a red dot optic.  I used an Aimpoint T-1 and that worked extremely well.  Others in my class were running Eotechs or just using iron sights.

  38.  I've never had a problem with video cameras. I've had several over the years in my cars and they have cleared me of BS complaints every time and also been handy as evidence. But now I don't have one and actually miss it with the crap growing and many people lately are playing the race card right off the bat on a traffic stop and it's getting old quick. I like the idea of body cameras and I'm planning on buying one but there are just a few things that I worry about. The first is the federal government has no business in this issue, this is between the agencies, staff, and governement body. Second is the durability of the cameras, how much abuse can they take? Can it hold up to fighting a crazy drunk or a guy coked out or on synthetics? The cameras in the cars avoid the physical contact but only show things in the view of the car.    I've been reading several article and research papers by people to include the ACLU about body cameras recently due to preparing to buy one. The current thing is they all cry we must wear them but the same time they say we shouldn't record other people with them stating people have expectation of privacy. Yes you do generally in a non public setting but how do keep video of victims recorded on these from being released under the FOIA? I'm all for the FOIA and hey you wan't my paperwork or video have at it but would you want the face of a rape victim or the video of dead people from a crash to be avaliable for all to see? Just a thought and it seems like there is no gray area either all or non of it. Film me all you want while I'm working but don't blame me when your camera breaks from my ugly mug.

  39. To me that sounds like saying you should let the cops search your car if you have nothing to hide. Cops have a right to privacy too. Personal conversations go on, tempers sometimes flair on calls, I was a good cop and I wouldn’t want one. Yes, I have said things that would probably have gotten me in trouble had they been recorded. You get tired of fighting all sides; I can see why they have a hard time getting good cops anymore. It will be like the reason we can’t get a good President; anyone that would be good at the job doesn’t want it.
