  1. Not a Santa gift, but a AFTER Santa gift from me to me. I can now say that I own a COLT. And she is sooooo nice.

  3. Well, Santa didn't bring it, but I gave this to myself. No, didn't hit the lottery, but some stocks I have been sitting on for the better part of 10 years at a loss just recently went up and above what I paid. I got enough to pay off my mortgage. Some people tell me that is a mistake, but I see not having a mortgage payment and the ability to start investing in my future more now.

  5. Saw this video on youtube http://youtu.be/nGBrfpWc4oQ The kids and I (mostly the kids) blew through a case of clay targets today. 22, 223, 308, 20ga, 12ga. The youngest didnt like the 12ga. LOL. I made 10 of the holders, each about 2 1/2 foot tall (6 inches in the ground, leaving 2 feet above ground). Only destroyed 1 holders with the 308. Hours of fun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. Based on several things I've read from reputable industry sources on a mailing list I subscribe to, it sounds like the BATFE might have come to a "conclusion" on this matter and will be releasing a statement on it soon.  What I have read indicates that they are going to reverse their previous opinion and use established case law to state that a firearm can be classified according to its use rather than its configuration.  Reportedly SIG's own legal team is on board with this and are stating that the SIG Brace was never intended to be used in a shoulder fired position.   The other statement I saw stated that the BATFE is preparing an "industry brief" as well as a public bulletin to address all of this.   If these things are true, this is essentially the nail in the coffin for the idea of a tax-free SBR and we can all thank the clueless fuckwits who kept peppering the BATFE with requests for an official opinion.

  7. No they would not have to ban it.   It is like saying a handicap spot should be outlawed because someone used it as a regular spot. We should not punish those who have to use it as intended because someone else doesn't use it as intended.   I can guarantee with all the media coverage as well as the outrage coming out of this that we will know EXACTLY where we stand on this. Hopefully we, as gun owners, can get behind this and call our representatives to get the stupid SBR laws changed at a minimum. Problem is there are groups of gun owners who are already dividing us up into smaller groups. Whether you agree or disagree with NFA, the Sig brace or anything else gun related everyone should be supporting gun rights even if you do not agree. I see people distancing themselves from those who use a Sig brace when they should be joining together. I see posts regularly, by fellow gun owners, saying ARs and AKs should be outlawed because all you need is a bolt gun or shotgun. Same thing is now being said about the Sig brace, that if you want a shoulder stock then SBR the gun but not everyone can have an SBR. We are our own worst enemies because we try so hard divide, and distance, ourselves from other gun owners when we should be coming together because the common denominator that brings us all together is our guns.  And when we do this it makes it so easy for the antis to conquer us a little bit at a time.   Every single gun owner should be writing and calling their representatives the same way we did when magazines and "assault weapons" were under attack. The NFA system is nothing more than another attack on our rights and what is worse is it is some guy behind a desk is the one who is determining who will be a felon tomorrow. He is doing this without congress getting involved and without a single law being changed. It is just some guy who opines, which is HIS opinion, that something makes you a felon and not the rule of law. Eventually an opinion letter is going to come down that turns every gun owner into a felon so we need to stop this now. Think it can't happen, look at Colorado, Massachusetts as well as several other states where the possession of a certain magazine makes you a felon. And when the antis get what they want in one state they do not rest on their laurels and are happy, they move onto another state. And even though we seem like we are safe in Tennessee eventually those liberals will be at our borders wanting to change our laws as well.    Another option is donate to those who fight for your NFA rights and I am not talking about the NRA. The NRA could not care less about most of the NFA stuff going on. Even if you do not own anything that is NFA by supporting these people we might, some day, be able to buy or build a SBR, silencer or machine gun without having to pay through the nose or the near year long wait for approval. http://www.nfafa.org/ BTW, this is the same group who brought about the changes, for the good, of our knife rights in the state. They are also trying to change the laws in the state to make NFA stuff legal and not the current illegal but with a defense laws we have now.   We need to do something because at some point the opinions will be so widespread that it will be impossible to do anything legally as a gun owner. I understand not everyone wants something that is NFA but let me ask you this. If it did not require the government's approval, a years wait or you to pay a tax would you still feel the same way? I am sure most gun owners would own at least one item currently under NFA control if it did not have all the requirements. There is no reason not to have a silencer and they should not be regulated at all.   So please, I ask all of you, do not try to divide us into smaller groups and try to support your fellow gun owner. Even if it is a gun you would never own right now it might be something you might want to in the future when it is legal to own.

  9.   That's a good point.  Hopefully the GA might make some headway on it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.       The system isn't broke, it's working just as intended.  Legislatures love to vest power in agencies and they have done so in alarming fashion.  Less time executing the functions of government, means more time raising money, which they're all about.  When a politically charged issue presents itself, no matter what decisions are made by these agencies, one side can say government is looking out for the people, while the other can say they either grabbed power they shouldn't have or won't use their authority for the interest of the people.  Both sides get to rally their base and the cycle begins anew.   Legislators, federal ones especially, don't want to be held accountable for what happens with agencies like BAFTE, they want the buffer they provide.  To actually take part in the decisions they make would do things like interrupt their three day work schedule and that dog won't hunt.   BAFTE has become the perfect case example of how legislatures have absconded their oversight roles and gun owners are on the thrusting end of the shaft.

  15. Be careful doing that. If you drill through the jacket at the nose and the lead is exposed at the base the lead can be pushed out of the jacket as it is fired and leave the jacket behind. If you are lucky the jacket will be far enough behind to cause a malfunction. Worst case scenario is the jacket gets left far enough forward to let you chamber and shoot another round. If that happens the gun becomes a grenade.

  19. Take a look at "Emerald Green" arborvitae. I planted some to block the back of a privacy fence that was installed next door knowing that it would not be maintained on the back side and look bad pretty soon. They won't grow like bamboo but they will be less work and will do fine if watered and fertilized. Here are some pics of mine.

  21. Also, wonder if shouldering a bare buffer tube will soon be illegal as well. The NFA needs to go away in a major way. Why should it matter whether I shoot from the shoulder or not? The rounds are just as effective regardless whether I shoulder it or not. Bet a lot of people will be returning their Christmas gifted Sig braces now.

  22. Very nice down payment for a new vehicle (new Subaru Outback for the wife), Yamaha Rhino ( used, but ready to tear stuff up), TLR-1 Game Spotter and MOE stock for the AR, bunch of ammo, two way radios, waterproof camo pants and parka, a sweet handmade stained class Tennessee light and Tennessee logo made out of a pallet. The best thing I got though was spending Christmas with my wife and our son on his first Christmas. He had no idea what was going on, but I just loved the feeling.

  26. All I know is that there are a lot of people who aren't lawyers talking about what-ifs, and a government agency doing what government agencies do best and confusing the hell out of people and leaving just enough rope for them to hang you with later if it becomes profitable and/or politically prudent for them to do so.   Also consider that the SIG Brace has undoubtedly taken money away from one of the most profitable government agencies in terms of lost NFA tax stamp revenue. If you believe that Big Government has an insatiable appetite for taxpayer money (see: duh) then it stands to reason that the BATFE has a vested interest in squashing this.  The very fact that they've allowed it to continue this long frankly dumbfounds me.

  27. The only downside to the 300 IS the cost of shelf ammo... most do reload themselves and/or shoot very little... if you want cheap, 5.56 is better.. I'd even say it's better to reach out farther ... but if you want hunting, suppressor, etc. down the road then 300 hands down... it's next to impossible to get 5.56 subsonic ammo to cycle an AR gasser... 300 on the other hand, piece of cake...  then there's the bullet weight itself.. I'd much rather punch something with a 208 or 220 gr 300 than a 55-75gr 5.56 .. I love the round, cost in my mind is the 300's primary achiles heel.

  29. Maybe not SBR because it's not designed to be fired from the shoulder, but definitely NFA. As I recall, those are "Machinegun Jumblies". Since they're from the 1960s, they predate the 80's ban on new production, so they'd be grandfathered in once they're NFA registered.

  31. http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/mythbusters/mythbusters-database/shoot-sniper-scope-or-gun-barrel/   The original Mythbusters test was later shown to be inaccurate because they used modern scopes (ie more/harder/thicker/coated glass). Upon retesting with Vietnam-period optics, it was changed from "Busted" to "Plausible". I suspect that the PU scope is even less sophisticated than a 1960's era scope, but I'm no glass expert. If they tested with a PU scope they may have to revise it to "Confirmed".

  33. Just about any standard pistol powder will be usable. For all around, Unique is hard to beat. Bullseye is my favorite powder, easy metering and versatility. In today's world, buy what you can and scour reputable manuals to find the data you need. .38 is where I started and is about as easy and rewarding as it gets. I'll recommend one thing that'll make your life easier, order a a separate crimp die regardless of the brand dies you buy and specifically the Redding Profile Crimp for .38/357. You can thank me later :)

  34. I understand your opinion, but you don't have walk funny or bad to be handicapped and qualify for a placard. My sister has one lung (due to lung cancer) and has one, as well as my Daughter inlaw's father who has a pacemaker. A Doctor can sign a form for anyone, for any reason to get a HC placard. Just because a person doesn't "look" handicapped  doesn't mean they aren't in total misery while walking into a store. Just my :2cents:   Dave

  39. I know of a guy in Hermitage that restores speakers but other audio equipment I'm not sure about. If you're down south around Ringgold GA there is a Hardware Feed Store/antique shop where there is a booth full of vintage audio stuff that would make any incense smelling pothead think he was in heaven. The guy that runs that booth may also do repairs. I think I have a card here somewhere. Awesome TexMex restaurant in Ringgold too.

  40.   The day the courts uphold the idea that between two identically lawfully configured firearms, one is perfectly legal to possess and even to fire from the shoulder, while even possessing its twin is a felony, just because of what was in a person's mind when he constructed it, our Minority Report society wlll have truly arrived.   - OS
