I mentioned doing a build thread in the PSA AR10 thread so here it is: I own several AR's and wanted something different, so I got a wild hair and decided to do one in 308. I want this to be a budget build, but it needs to be reliable and accurate enough to make hits on a 12" gong at 600yds.....something that the 308 is more than capable of. I decided on Aero receivers as they seem to be good quality...not the best, but not the worst. From my reading, they seemed to be a better choice than PSA so I caught one on sale at Brownells for $150. I'll put the price breakdown later but here are the receivers. Dave Ramsey's baby steps really do work. Some like to trash his ideas saying that the math doesn't work, that you should pay off debt based on the higher interest rates, keep the house payments for the mortgage deduction, etc... Those people confuse personal finance with math. Personal finance is rarely more complicated than 8th grade math. How often have you had to do anything more complicated than simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the occasional percentage? I don't expect anyone to be using calculus to balance the checking account.   It's about human behavior far more than it's about math. The smallest-to-largest gives people a sense of accomplishment by paying off that small debt. That gives encouragement to keep going and get the next one. As each one falls, it frees up more money each month to attack the next one in line. This gives a double sense of winning because the person sees both the debts disappearing and their cash flow growing. If you take on the one with the biggest interest rate and that happens to be a big nut to crack, you can lose hope when after years of effort it seems like you're going nowhere and those little (lower interest rate) debts keep sucking more of your blood along the way.   If it was all about math, we wouldn't have a debt problem.

So A fellow TGOer and I have sort of been putting together separate collections of military surplus rifles. Collectively, we account for many of the more common designs. Thought I'd show a few pictures of my two favorites in my collection. I may put up some pictures of my M1 Carbine later. I am currently bidding on an FN49 on gunbroker, which had the potential of being competition to the Garand, had Germany not invaded Belgium and delayed the rifle development. Thank you for saying that. I have long felt that the focus on perceived racism is what perpetuates it. Yes, the struggle is real, but you have to struggle. Everyone does. Giving up and saying 'woe is me' is not the struggle. Regardless of the race. I see it a lot in low income White Americans as well, that is where I came from. There was no point in trying, you can just get food stamps and section eight housing. It is always someone else's fault.   I am white, so I am often told that I am not allowed to have an opinion about racism in American, well, any opinion other than 'I am so sorry, my bad.' That offends me. I can't call a spade a spade? If the people that worked so hard in this nation to defeat racism and the established culture against it fifty years ago knew today how all of their work was being distorted, I am pretty confident they would be furious.   I firmly hold the media and politicians accountable for this. Control and controversy. That is what racism is. That is what poverty economics have become.   What happened to the American Dream? A wife, a kid, a nice house on a cul-de-sac, two late model cars in the garage, an education and a stable job? Why did I bust my ass to get here to find out that it is obsolete?

The bottle opener was a major plus, It saved my marriage. No more chips on the edge of the counter and table.

You did touch on a point that people tend to get bent outta shape over. People naturally gravitate toward one thing or another. Naturally occurring segregation is not altogether a bad thing. If ever it is even suggested, let alone forced upon people it immediately becomes bad. People have a right to choose who the associate with but the liberal left would have you beleive that there's somthing wrong with you unless you have a balanced number of races in your friends list.

  I've discussed this with MacGyver and while we believe helping animals is a noble pursuit, we'd really like to leave sticky posts to threads that are relevant to the purpose of TGO.  Just as we selectively opt what types of advertising we allow on TGO to ensure that it is relevant so as to avoid diminishing the impact of our ads, we'd prefer to reserve sticky threads and other such attention-grabbers and use them selectively for maximum impact.

Make your business model comparable to what I can buy off the internet.  You might have an advantage about haz fees, and carry powders that are hard to find.    Now of you prey upon the misinformed, so be it.  But for us that research and scour the net for deals, and you want to snare customers like us, just be comparable to what we find.  You will have to have a niche.

That was how our dogs were but they loved Daisy. Once I saw that, I went full steam ahead. ;-) spoiled dogs are happy dogs and that's all that matters to me. Molly is lucky! I just sat in the puppy pen for 30 minutes. It's the most calming place in the world. How can you get mad surrounded by fuzz? Personalities are starting to develop, it's amazing to watch!

If the antis made him continue to stock firearms in his non-FFL store, went in to buy them, convinced him to write them up as "miscellaneous sales" and send them over to a neighboring store with a valid FFL for the transfer, then yeah...maybe they staged it. That seems awful implausible to me. I'm betting he's guilty as sin and simply thought he could get away with it.   Maybe we'll see some of the evidence presented during the trial. I'm not expecting a lot of coverage on this, but maybe someone will publish some info.

This is how we did it.  No debt at all and we were under 50.  And I count my blessings every day.  

I hate it when folks chastise me for not stripping naked, wearing face paint, listening to Gregorian chants, sitting cross legged on a purple velvet rug under a statue of the holy virgin, with candles and incense burning to intensely and religiously clean my Glock, with my cleaning kit arrayed like nuclear warhead maintenance tools or a hospital surgical suite.  (I was a janitor while going to college on the GI Bill where I had to clean the hospital surgical suites at night, then when I went back into the Army I was a nuclear warhead maintenance supervisor for a couple of years).     When I do clean my Glock I try to keep it to 5 minutes or less usually using brake or carb cleaner, a gun cleaning double ended tooth brush and an air compressor.  I lube it with whatever is closest at hand that says lubrication on the container, except for WD 40.   (Lastly - do not spray carb or brake cleaner on a black Lorcin/Bryco or Raven - it won't be black no mo.)  A friend asked me to fix his Lorcin .380 one time (it jammed - duh...) so when I got it running I thought "I'll clean it for ....."  Lesson learned - Do not clean a Lorcin like I clean a Glock.  I ended up taking all the paint off, which was easy with Carb cleaner, then buffed that pot metal to a chrome like finish on my buffing wheel.  ..... thought I had given him a new gun - he was a happy man.

Pro tip: go to the pawn shops around NADC on Gallatin rd. All of the students that drop out sell their multimeters. Don't buy new before checking those places first. I should ad that the required multimeter for NADC is Fluke.

What we did. Paid off the lowest payment first. Added that money to the next lowest payment until it was paid off. Added that to the next and so forth. It was not long before all we had left was the house. The key is to not add any more dept during this process. Doing it this way we were living off the same money. A earlier post was correct. 1 extra payment a year on a 30 year mortgage will save you 13 years worth of interest. If your house payment is $500 a month that would save you $78,000 worth of interest. Once you have your house paid for you can get a home equity line of credit for emergencies. We also have a car savings account so each month we put what would be a car payment in that account. When it is time to buy a car that is what we use. We have not had a car payment in 25 years.

  Tell me I'm wrong!  They use some of the nastiest petroleum and additives possible for that.  Couple it with being churned around in a relatively airtight space for tens of thousands of miles and usually having clutch-pack friction material stirred up in it for a that entire time... MMMMMM MMMMM MMMMMM that's some good smelling stuff.   Most friends who have had me help them set up gears on Jeeps or Mustangs have literally gagged a bit the first time they've cracked open the pumpkin on a differential and inhaled all of that possumy-butthole goodness.   Makes your eyes water sometimes!  :D

So if it were me. I'd take the extra money and pay off the vehicles sooner. You'll save money on interest there too, and they depreciate faster. Then once they're paid off take the money you were paying in payments and put all of that extra on the house. This way the budget stays balanced.

I see them like that all the time. I've seen them run a long time with no issues. I've seen them blow out at the most inopportune of times. Is it gonna be okay to drive on? Flip a coin. It either will or it won't. The BETTER question, what's the cost of a tire? If you like 50/50 odds then bet your life on it...bet other people's lives on it. Tires aren't important...until they are. Tires seem expensive...until they're really not by comparison.

I have one in x39 as well.  I even used it for almost a year when I started 3-gun.  Obviously I would not have done that if it was not reliable.  C Products Defense mags are the best, ASC work fine.  I have a Liberty bolt, but there are several other options.  I had the extractor break once, but they replaced it (eventually) for free.  No other issues.  I also added the extended Red-X firing pin even though the Liberty is supposed to be cut to use the mil-spec pin.  I had a couple fail-to-fires during matches before, but not since I changed it.  I have a CMC trigger, so no way to increase hammer spring weight.  I also only used Wolf and Tula steel case ammo.  I did drill out the gas port, but am not sure I actually needed to.  It was something I read on the internet.   The only reason I changed from 7.62x39 to .223 for 3-gun was because I could see a difference in follow up shot speed.  7.62x39 actually has recoil!   Anyone who says the 7.62x39 AR is not reliable is wrong.  Maybe 10 years ago the mags and bolts were problematic, but that is absolutely not the case now.  Some people without recent actual experience just repeat stuff they read on the interwebs.  As you continue researching, look for the current real world experience and you'll only find good things, just like any other AR caliber.

We are blessed to have room in our home and a great place for puppies to run. Around this area the is a huge amount of animal neglect and I hope we can continue to take them in and help them find great homes. And yes she's a winner, she gets me puppies and guns! :)

Well that escalated quickly!

I purposely left my first post short to add this now.   I would take that chance to engage an active shooter whether I or my family were in danger or not.  But I have a bit more training than the average gun carriers and have enough confidence in my training to feel that I would make a good decision on whether to take the shot or not.     This is not to say I am an expert door kicking Seal Team, Delta force, Ninja or anything, but I've been lucky enough to get some good training and have had the unfortunate opportunity to exchange gunfire in combat which gave me the knowledge of how I would react in certain life and death circumstances.  You would be surprised at how some react in SHTF situations, even combat vets.   But threads like this do give me something to consider, and should be considered by all of us; if you choose to engage you may just be on your own!
