  1. Have never grown anything as I've never had the space (or time)... However, I saw this video and thought that, finally, something I could do and try my hand at some tomatoes. Gardening with Leon - So I have built one "Hydo-container" and so far it is doing really well. I stuffed it with 3 tomato plants, Leon has other videos that show great success with this method on his channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSDYs9sd2_BlLuWSiEr7TJQ He also covers fertilizing, types of soil, frequency of watering, etc. in subsequent videos. 3. The bores had some pretty rough spots so shooting it was not a possible solution. Fluid steel in that shape would be maybe OK with a real good spin polish & hi speed hone but not with the laminated bore. I'm not one to cut good barrels either but the condition AND the 14 inches that I cut off took nearly 2 full pound off the 32 inchers. This thing "was" the definition of unwieldy! Now, not so much. The now 8.5 lb weight is actually nicely balanced now. I love the over sized receiver. The picture is a 16 gauge build on basically a 12 g size receiver. The big 10 comes alive in the side by side shot. A 30-30 round is all of puny inside the 10g chamber. I'm not too worried about a 30-30 hand fit to this garunga!

  4. @A.J. Holst Way to rub it in. Lol I still hate that I missed that, but glad you got it. Have you read about Horace Kephart? I had @Grand Torino make me an example of a Kephart knife a while back. Very useful in the field and should last me a lifetime.

  5. I found a really good supplier of fully prepped .223 / 5.56 MM rifle brass. This stuff is priced good. And is delivered, (free shipping), via. USPS Priority Mail in just a few days. And it comes ready to load. Fully cleaned inside and out, by wet tumbling in Stainless Steel pins. Fully trimmed, resized, with the primer pockets swaged. All that's left is to run it through the Dillon. All I did additional was to chamfer the case mouths with a VLD Chamfer Tool on my RCBS Case Prep Center to allow easier bullet seating. The primers seat beautifully in these cases, with just the right amount of pressure. All to the proper depth. And none stand proud. You can't beat the price. I bought 2,500 rounds for just $179.00. (It's $10.00 more now, and they're showing, "out of stock" at the moment. But they resupply fast. I'm going to order more as soon as they get more in. I load this stuff by the 30 pound bowl full, with the bulk 6,000 round boxed, Hornady 55 Gr. FMJ Boat Tail. With Hogdon CFE 223 Powder. That stuff burns clean and accurate. But more importantly, it flows through a Dillon powder measure like water. From there it goes into .50 Cal ammo cans. This ammo runs perfectly in all of my AR's. And it delivers MOA groups in calm conditions, in both my CZ-527 and Marlin X-7 bolt guns. For this price it just doesn't pay to buy non prepped brass any more. Resizing and prepping brass is the biggest PITA in reloading. This stuff makes your time at the reloading bench much more productive. All of the loaded rounds gage properly in my Dillon Case Gauge. And they chamber effortlessly. https://msprocessedbrass.com/product-category/rifle-brass

  6. Did a little inshore fishing yesterday. We were planning on running into the gulf and looking for some big red snapper but it was just too rough. So we stayed inshore and fished for redfish. It took us a little while but wee finally found some reds. The first pic and my sons reds were 34-35 inches and probably 15-20lbs. The last two pics the reds were 45+ and over 30 lbs.

  7. Hi from the Morristown area. I have recently started looking at investment properties, in some less than stellar areas, have begun travelling for leisure and made the decision to reinstate my carry permit. It had been expired for a whopping four years, and at least two prior that I never carried. Got the permit reinstated, and picked up a new p229, as a replacement for one I had to sell during financial difficulties. Nothing new just wanted to drop in and say hi.

  8. It is demonic forces. No I am not kidding. Just look at some of the news headlines from around the state. Things like folks beating toddlers to death, starving them, men beating their pregnant wives or girlfriends and killing her and the unborn child. The devil and his demons at work. Look at some of the mugshot pictures and tell me they aren't possessed. Granted alcohol and drugs may be involved, but they look demonic to me.

  9. My go to is the mullet pattern. Followed by the red head and peanut bunker. But, I think I’ve fished every one of them with success in the Gulf. They make an inshore topwater popper that is loads of fun, too. I think it weighs in at 7/8 ounce, so it’ll cast a mile. Kind of like your kastmasters, anything with some silver flash is great. I love a blue/silver combo like the mullet pattern. I’ve taken to fishing those lures on an 8-foot fast, medium weight rod. My surf gear used to be way over rigged - but of late, I’ve been going the other way. A ladyfish on a lightweight rod feels like you’ve hooked into a tarpon.

  10. Pompano have been good recently. Spanish Mackrel have been hitting fast lures off the beach, too. I’ve switched almost entirely to Yo-Zuri 3D Inshore lures. I like that they’re a little heavier, so they cast longer in the wind, and they seem to last about three times as long as an equivalent Rapala. This one is my secret weapon: https://www.amazon.com/Yo-Zuri-Inshore-Twitchbait-Sinking-Crankbait/dp/B079ZBQYJ4?th=1&psc=1 It’ll catch everything in the Gulf. It’s good for reds, and pompano, and Spanish Mackerel. It’s also good for my kids’ preference - the trash can grand slam - consisting of a whiting, a ladyfish, and a bluefish all caught in the same day.

  11. I had been eyeing the Nessmuk simply because of the grip, pinecone stabilized in green resin In person, even better. Didn't know what a Nessmuk was, found this article http://www.thetruthaboutknives.com/know-your-knives-the-nessmuk-knife/ Worth every bit of $100, but when GT offered a two for one, I was in. The hand selected blade is a better fit for my needs, so Best Gun Buddy will be getting the 'muk to join the GT Feather Knife.

  13. Kephart was very specific on his design. He spelled it out in his book. I like useful knives more than big Rambo wall hangers. Nessmuk spells out a bit about a hatchet in his writing that I would love to have made. I think it cost him 3 bucks. I would hate to see the price now. Unfortunately he does not lay out the exact details except it was a double bit. Here is what he said. Get a load of the maker. Lol "It was made in Rochester, by a surgical instrument maker named Bushnell. It cost time and money to get it. I worked one rainy Saturday fashioning the pattern in wood. Spoiled a day going to Rochester, waited a day for the blade, paid $3.00 for it, and lost a day coming home."

  14. Getting ready to head down there and do some fishing myself. Always on the beach by 5:30 AM with some meat soaking about 60 yards out on the big pole and throwing spoons while I watch it. Prob won’t charter this year but a friend is bringing his boat to do some inshore.

  15. Hickok makes a good point. We, the general membership, have no clue what's really going on at the top levels of the NRA or where this in-fighting is going. OTOH, I've often expressed my frustration with the current NRA leadership over their compromise attitude and just barely protecting our rights. I've never made a secret of that. Personally, I've never liked WLP. I've long thought it was past time for him to go. But then, as already pointed out, we don't have the details about what's really going on. And that, in itself, is part of the problem. Too many secrets and too much dirty laundry that the membership has not been told about. Whatever is going on, it needs to be dealt with and resolved quickly for the good of not only the members, but for every gun owner in this country. Edited to add: There are a couple of gun shows I plan to attend next month. I plan on stopping by the NRA booth and telling them exactly how I feel. I suggest that you all do the same.

  16. Seasons and limits have gotten a lot more restrictive in the last 20 years. And, while there is a bit of dissonance between recreational and commercial regulations, overall those limits are a good thing. We’re catching more, bigger fish all around. Yes, we put many back so they can grow, but my freezer is full of better fish. We regularly catch redfish that are way over the upper limit on the slot - 34-35” fish aren’t uncommon. You didn’t see that 20 years ago. The fish we *maybe* caught then were well below the now 18” low end of the slot limit. I get it that it’s frustrating to not be able to keep that red snapper when it doesn’t line up with the week you’ve got for your vacation - but, we’re definitely better for the limits and good fishery management.

  17. I don’t know why anyone would be a Memphis hater…..maybe they don’t like good food or music. But when it comes to getting all indignant and up in arms about crimes rates; we need to look at what’s going on in our own area before we pass judgement on another city or state. Statistics are available all over the place, some accurate, some not; its up to you to decide. Everyone seems to be up in arms about the murders in Chicago. You can apply some 4th grade math to the murder numbers and populations and get some interesting results. Walking around downtown Memphis is more dangerous than Chicago; not that that really matters to some. And Nashville isn’t far behind. I think the main thing a comparison between the two very violent cities shows is that crime and murder rates have very little to do with citizens carry guns.

  20. I have a couple vac/sealers. I put up pigs late winter before temps start rising out of the 40's. I still have a couple roasts 4 years old that traveled with me from San Diego. I do cooking sized portions of onions and peppers mixed, Zucchini and yellow squash mixes etc. I repack store bought meats when the deals can't be passed up. Fruits and berries etc......love those sealers. If you are not above shopping thrift stores, you can find them for ridiculously cheap. I've hauled off rolls of bag material for pennies on the dollar. Last year I bought a HarvestRight freeze dryer. Powdered eggs in long term storage....check. Freeze dried garlic is great, just re-hydrate when needed. I've done bananas (no babnanas tho....ARFCOM humor) and various other fruits. I even freeze dried some ice cream sandwiches and orange creamsicles. Takes some time to do a cycle and you have to transfer from freeze dryer to storage super fast (straight from machine to jars/sealed bags) to avoid your food absorbing humidity. Love it though.

  22. Those are some great reds! Having fished for them for better than 35 years now - we catch way more fish - and better fish with the slot limit in place.

  23. Lots of reasons. Warehousing and storage and other forms of overhead, the possibilities of laws/customs regulations changing, economy of scale, all factors which will provide impetus for importers to move lots of guns in the shortest amount of time. It's basically the model the whole industry was built on, from Bannerman's through Sam Cummings to Classic/SOG/AIM today ...

  25. I hate to "quote" myself , LOL. But I posted on June 3rd the method I use. It's super simple and no hammer nor nails are involved. Very easy to replace the landscape timbers after 8-10 years as they will eventually decompose. I make my beds in units of eight's and four's. The landscape timbers are generally 8'. I cut 4 in half (8 four ft pieces) and leave 8 of the landscape timber uncut. I simply stack them using small, iirc, 3' T-pieces sunk to hold them, Then fill with a combination of bagged manure and garden soil. I run chicken wire around the tops leaving plenty of space to weed-eat. I staple the chicken wire at it's base as the friggin' rabbits will otherwise climb in and feast! They are incredibly easy to maintain, but being raised may require more frequent watering than in ground beds...depending on natural rainfall, soil content etc.I usually water mine every 2-4 days. fwiw the "long bed" is 16 feet and that's a 16 foot piece of cattle panel fencing I picked up from Tractor Supply about 9 years ago. Cucumbers, beans, anything that vines, love to climb and adhere to that sucker! Below are a couple of pics from yesterday. If you look at my post from June 3rd, you can see how well these beds can produce. We'll be taking our 4 cutting of the Bright Lights Swiss Chard today. I know there are multiple methods for raised beds, but this is the simplest and most easy to maintain that I've ever made. Keep us posted and share a few pics. We can all learn from each other.

  26. It has arrived! Shooter condition. Bluing on barrel is like new except for wear at muzzle and a few surface scratches. Receiver is worn, has a great patina from 60 years of handling, and bluing fades back in about 1/2 of the way up and over the top. I think the case hardening pattern in the lever is beautiful. Leupold VX2 - 7 x 33 with fancy flip caps, oh so clear and non distorted. Cheek weld is fine at 2, when I start zooming, I have to move my head a bit. Inspecting the innards through the ejection port, I think this rifle has a low round count - not much if any visible wear including the breech face. The action is smooth and it does satisfy my desire for a level gun. I think the trigger is fine, when I shoot I'll figure out if it is good. The actual trigger itself is wide, serrated, and smooth with virtually no take up and clean break. .300 Savage has an interesting history as does the 99, which is also appealing to my ecletic sensibilities. I do have both the ladder and rear peep sights as well.

  27. We complain about more pro 2A legislation not getting passed (and often for good reason what good is a pro gun majority if you don't pass any pro gun bills?) .....but keep in mind that it could be far worse. We could put the OTHER guys in charge and have to be constantly fighting to keep ANTI 2A from getting passed. So I'll take the underachieving pro gun majority over ANY kind of anti gun majority.... Having said that...the signage law needs to go away .....It only penalizes people who are likely to follow the law anyway. Of course they could make the poster of the property civilly liable if a violent crime happens and people are injured. If you don't let me carry my legally owned and carried gun in your establishment and your establishment gets shot up then I and everyone else should be able to sue you for disarming us and not providing protection. Pretty simple.

  28. Be Aware: A person not licensed under the Gun Control Act (GCA) and not prohibited from acquiring firearms may order a firearm from an out-of-state source and obtain the firearm if an arrangement is made with a licensed dealer in the purchaser's state of residence for the purchaser to obtain the firearm from the dealer. [18 U.S.C 922(a)(3) and (5), 922(b)(3), 27 CFR 178.29] The ATF's Code of Federal Regulations, Part 178 - Commerce in Firearms and Ammunition is available at the following link: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CFR-2000-title27-vol1/pdf/CFR-2000-title27-vol1-part178.pdf What This Means: Essentially this means that it is legal for private parties residing in different US States to engage in the private transaction of a firearm, but only if the transfer is done through a licensed dealer (FFL) in the purchaser's state of residence. The FFL in the purchaser's state will be responsible for receiving shipment of the firearm and facilitating the background check and fulfilling all other legal requirements applicable in the purchaser's state before allowing the firearm to transfer to the purchaser. It also means that a seller in one state cannot legally ship or otherwise convey or transfer ownership of a firearm to a recipient in another state without going through a licensed dealer (FFL). Bypassing this process would be in violation the Federal Gun Control Act. There are many ways available on the Internet to locate a licensed dealer (FFL) in the United States, easily obtained by using an Internet search engine, such as Google. One such source might be https://fflgundealers.net/. Our Opinion: Our opinion is that a person selling on TGO to an out-of-state individual should enter into that transaction with extreme caution and ensure that Federal and State laws are being followed to the letter. While interstate Private Party sales are possible and in some instances make sense, we would recommend trying to limit your sales to in-state buyers for the sake of simplicity. Consider that there are various ways that an interstate transfer could potentially "go wrong" and weigh your risks against the potential gains. 29. You Memphis haters should enjoy this. Depending on the source there has been an average of one shooting every week or two on the Interstates around Memphis since January 1st. I am a born and raised Memphis boy and am unapologetic about that, not that I need to be, but this is out of control.
