  1. Click type torque wrenches are easy to check... Clamp a bolt horizontally in a vice. Tie some cord to the handle and a bucket. Measure from the cord to the pivot. Add water to the bucket until it clicks. Weigh the bucket and do the math. Click wrenches should always be stored at zero. They should never be used for loosening. You should never continue to tighten after they click. Any/all of these will cause their accuracy to degrade.

  4. Responsibility over false reality. Do people need protection from themselves? Yes. There’s a reason for every safety warning label - someone caused it to be there. I support these checks and balances because I’ve seen people slip. I think it’s needed for a large majority of people. Do what you’re supposed to do as you are supposed to do and you eliminate the uncertainty and need to lie to yourself to keep from blowing your toe off. Responsibility. I support the message and due to any unforeseen and uncertain factors (people touching your stuff, lapse of judgement, not having a system in place) i think it’s a great safety message. I don’t like lying to myself, i prefer accountability. I’m not proposing people go about unsafely, more so the message is very similar actually. Do your checks and balances before it can become an issue. Have a system. I work with oxygen acetylene Torches (welding and fabrication). Together they are more violent than gunpowder via molecular reaction. 6400 degrees vs a couple hundred degrees from a gunpowder reaction. You can die quickly if you screw up. 24 hours a day they sit side by side safely until you bring them together. A system is in place to keep them apart until it’s time to use them. The same system I use to keep ammo away from my gun until needed. This works for ME. Your circumstances may differ. People who work with deadly materials all day (not just having a gun) have a different approach to things. Most people don’t have a system. You need a system, and you need to be serious about it.

  8. I post this in SHAME and CONCERN about what I did in hopes maybe refresh everyone's safety. BTW, I have a Post similar under the topic on this Forum regarding a Recoil Rod question that I was reviewing when the discharge of my 9MM G2 happened. Just thought might catch more eyes as a separate Topic. It's a bit long presentation. Monday Evening, a member had brought up an issue with a gun (same model as my PT111 G2 9MM). He had noticed his Recoil Rod could be pushed out past the front of the frame when he had the gun broke down for cleaning. I thought that sounds normal to me as the Recoil Rod has to go out the front of the slide when firing the gun to allow the slide to go back. He had in fact said the gun functions OK. Anyway, wanted to verify my thoughts. So, I decided to break my gun down (remove the slide to verify all this). I was at my computer desk. Here is the breakdown procedure for INFO: remove the MAG, check Chamber to make sure no bullet in the chamber (always need to do RULE 1 even though I never keep a bullet in the chamber), then push the slide back about 1/8 inch and release the keeper buttons, let the slide back to normal position (the keeper buttons stay released), then pull the TRIGGER to release the striker (not all guns require that - many do). The Trigger Pull releases the striker and is the final step to pull the slide off the gun (break it down to expose parts for cleaning). THAT REQUIREMENT to pull the TRIGGER is the ONE BIG reason to MAKE SURE the CHAMBER is EMPTY (and in my opinion somewhat a safety issue). BTW, the PT111 has a chamber indicator on it. You can just look at that and know the chamber is empty - I did not do that either. I am not STUPID (dumb) about Rule 1 (gun unloaded) when handling. Do it all the time every time I clean or pick up a gun (except for this incident ). SO Being so SMART about that, what happened??? NOW THE BAD CARELESS PART. The final story is; after breaking the gun down, I verified what the guy saw that you can push the Recoil Rod with your thumb and see it go out the front of the slide. Having verified what I thought, I put the gun back together and put the MAG in and put the gun away (nothing in the Chamber, I never Carry with one in the Chamber). I decided to watch the Recoil Rod come out the front. So, I picked up the gun and manually pushed the slide back, of course it did protrude out the front. Then I released the slide, guess what a round loaded in the Chamber when I released the slide as I had the MAG in. That was the first part of the BAD. Then a bit later, I decided to break the gun down again: Took the MAG out, DID NOT CHECK THE CHAMBER. I guess figured I just had it apart, or just did not think ( VIOLATE RULE 1). Got to the step to Pull TRIGGER (release the striker). Gun went off (loud and scared the crap out of me). Only good thing was that it was pointed in a safe direction due to the way I was sitting and doing the operation (more by accident than by my thoughts). The bullet traveled at a down angle to my left (due to the way I was holding the gun getting ready to remove the slide). The bullet went thru front of a drawer (bottom edge) of another desk, and thru the top back of a lower drawer (top edge). Then thru the back of the desk, thru the wall into a bedroom. It then hit the treadmill in that bedroom (low about 4 inches off the floor and front about 6 inches from the edge) where the heavy part of the tread mill is located. That stopped the bullet. Just to say what could have been- had the gun been level, and a bit further pointed east, it would have went thru a TV, the wall into the adjacent bedroom and out the window of that bedroom. Then who knows what? Killed someone? I was lucky and Needless to say, I was UPSET and still I am still UPSET. My wife (gun hater) was REALLY UPSET, that has been smoothed over to an extent as EVERYONE makes mistakes. ONLY GOOD THING - HOPEFULLY I learned to practice (100 % of the time) something (Rule 1) that I all ready knew and have always practiced.

  9. I need to get my SW 629 out and shoot some 44 spl in it to see how it shoots. I have always used the 44 Mag ammo in it. My arthritic hands and wrist does not fair well when using the full blown magnum ammo in that revolver. I gave my 15 year old grandson his choice of my handguns as I am thinning my collection. I want my grandchildren to have my guns, and my wife said I needed to give them away before my time here is finished. I decided she is right. Also they are changing laws to the point one may not be able to give them away without a lot of red tape in it, in the future. Most of my grandchildren are too young so I am giving them to their fathers for the grandchildren to have when they mature and are of age to own them. To my surprise, my grandson took my SW mdl 681, 38/357 magnum which I used for my bedside gun. So I replaced it with my 629, but the magnum ammo is too stout for firing inside our home, if I were ever forced into shooting to protect us. A friend suggested to try the 44 spl which I have very little experience with. I have fired 6 rounds just to see how the 44 Spl ammo recoiled and it was doable. Much more milder in the recoil department. So the 44 is my new bedside revolver for now. I have been working on my back yard firing range and got it in good shape. Now, I just need the weather to cooperate a little and for me to get over this Bronchitis I have been experiencing for the last 3 weeks. Have been through a full regiment of antibiotics and it is still hanging on. Got out Saturday and spent the day chasing down a Horse Trailer, for my first born daughter, and we finally purchased it and brought it home from Louisburg TN. My son in law is repacking the wheel bearings and doing a general clean up on the trailer before she takes it to the horse barn. She needed her dads truck to retrieve it from the previous owner and I kinda took a "backset" from exposing myself to the cold windy day. Have spent 2 days of aggravated coughing. Feel a little better this morning, but staying in out of the fierce winds this morning. Really gusting here. Edited to add; I also need to sight in my new 308 and 7mm08 I purchased at Bass Pro during their Black Friday sale this year. I think I am going to really like the Savage Axis XP rifles with the Weaver 3 x 9 x 40 scopes already mounted on them. They were a bargin at 170.00 each after 75.00 rebates, from Savage, on each rifle. I let my youngest grandson write his name on the 7mm08 box and told him it was his when I don't have need of it any longer. Oh well, future plans of mice and men, you know? What are you doing today?

  11. Appreciate your welding analogy. Years ago a man violated one of those rules. Blew himself and the house up. Wife was crippled for life. Tragedy is just a blink away, in many circumstances.

  12. It's almost there, but I think will never be "correct" as it seems the subject and flag (at least) may have been positioned to account for the reversal. I noticed the size of the firearm as well. It occurred to me that it might not be particularly big, but rather that the person holding it is simply quite small.

  16. That is a fact, also most don't know offshore Kalifornia has lots of oil, but you know they don't want US drilling on their turf!! That is a very good question Greg that I would like someone in the gubbermint to answer. Sort of like Hussein Obama giving Iran all the millions of $$$, I guess to fund their fight with U.S.? I hope sometime soon, somebody gets the drift that the terrorist's don't like U.S.

  17. A friend of mine elsewhere had this to say about our relationship with KSA, and I think he’s got a pretty strong point. “So, i had my standard rant about how our relationship with Saudi Arabia only exists because of how badly we ####ed up with Iran, how they're not allies, how they fund and/or radicalized every group of assholes we are pitted against across the globe when i realized something... What if THAT'S why we're friends with them? Saudi Arabia, at this point, is basically keeping the DOD employed and the reason why we have adversaries across the planet, thus keeping the wheels of the MIC churning. I've honestly never really considered it... And it's pretty depressing to think about.”

  18. It well past the time for the US.gov to recognize what the people in the US and the KSA have long known, we are not friends. It’s time to stop pretending that they are our allies. It only leads to dead Americans.

  19. Folks, I really appreciate the replies and now glad I took the time to post this despite my embarrassment over My Negligence. Your inputs have been considerate and EYE OPENING. OMEGA's Post with links to other accidents (negligence I think involved also) was eye opening also. I am FWDing those links to other folks. If I could post pictures on this site, I would show the path of the bullet (pictures I took of Bullet Holes). I did post them on a TAURUS Forum (easier to do there). I can tell you I will never forget this (it is a very disturbing bit of negligence on my part). Not to inject Humor in this serious situation. However, one good thing is, I don't have many years left to have this on my conscious (I am 81 but in good health Physically and Mind, I think Mind. Maybe live another 10 years LOL).

  20. Another plus to always having one in the chamber. Every maintenance procedure starts with clearing your weapon, and always start that on step one, even if you feel you've performed it previously. Good on you for reminding us of what can happen when you don't. As to the SDs , vs NDs, I've always been very careful about holstering my gun, but it made me even more so when this story came out, then this news report added additional things to look for. https://www.itstactical.com/warcom/firearms/safety-warning-worn-leather-holsters-can-cause-accidental-discharges/ https://youtu.be/FrJMQupYxaw
