Good grief, are cops the only ones with discretion? As a cop it was up to me if you got arrested or not (except for felonies, DV, or DUI). If I agreed with why you broke the law; I could let you go. I would think store managers have some discretion when it comes to Company Policy. The conversation should have gone something like this… Store Manager: You violated Company policy, so you can’t be employee of the month this month. You were free and clear and could have left the night Manager for dead meat; but you didn’t. I think your actions may well have saved both his live and yours. You proved that you can do the right thing under extreme pressure. So I’m giving you a raise. Employee: Okay, thank you. Store Manager: We’ll talk next month about the employee of the month thing. Oh and BTW, next time you engage an Armed Robber; kill him, don’t let him run off.2 points
Not to go too far off topic but, unless I am mistaken, when Hitler/the Nazis adopted the Swastika they screwed up and got it backward - so that the Nazi flag actually had a reversed Swastika. Kind of fitting in that the Swastika meant 'life' and, I believe, was sometimes used as a mystical symbol of protection so that a 'reversed' one would technically mean death, destruction and, I guess, evil.
Ha, I was just making a joke. Regardless what the original denotations are for the swasticker, the current connotations will forever trump that. Kinda like rainbows. Rainbows might be awesome to put on my truck, but everyone would think I'm a homo. Gays own rainbows now. Nazis will forever own swastickers.2 points

This is a demonstration of just how frightened the administration is of veterans with guns, and by extension citizens with guns. Frightened. So, how long before it comes to this?: If you do not worship the God-Emperor Barack Hussein Obama and agree with all elements of his agenda without reservation, then there must be something wrong with your thought processes and therefore we must administratively deprive you of arms.2 points

This looks to me like just more tripe and an opportunity to dump on the "gun culture". I no longer believe the "nice, pure, little boy" pictures that tend to come out now when ever a "young man/little boy" has been shot by an "angry old man"; even less so when the situation is a "young black man/angry old white man". Based on the incredibly limited info given here it seems to me as if the shooter was in the wrong and if so, then I hope he fries for it (or whatever they do in FL); if he was in the right then I wish him well and I don't really give a rip who is what "color".2 points
Thanks for the replies. My only concern is if a thief got my laptop, what identity-theft type stuff could they pull from the browsers.
Well, if you're only worried about the browser parts, you can run without caching or clear cache and cookies after each session. Or can use any number of freebie programs to make a macro that will do those things with one click and even shut down puter afterwards it you want. Of course running without cache and cookies don't make for the most pleasurable or convenient web experience, depending on what all you normally do. Motherboard password is pretty easily hacked by anyone sophisticated enough to know how to search for hidden stuff in the first place, but should stop your average thief from snooping who only wants to resell the puter itself for some toot or whatever. There are encryption programs that will let you run everything encrypted, but haven't kept up with that branch of the industry. Haven't even kept up with the various encryption methods allowed by some operating systems. - OS1 point

Wait till you have to have a govt Dr. thanks to obamacare give you a mental eval prior to getting a handgun owner "permit". Oh, you take prozac? No permit. Oh, you got a d.u.i. last year? No permit. Ask my ancestors? Heck, I'm fed up with moral decline, technology, and fast food. If I could speak to my ancestors, I'd want to know about life in their time. I expect they would be in awe of today's world, for a couple of minutes. About as long as it would take to witness some kid with his a$$ sticking out of his pants, cussing at his cell phone in a fast food restaurant because he can't get signal to text a naked picture of himself to his boyfriend.1 point
Agreed. This is the VA, though the Veterans Administration is an element of the administration and the Secretary of the VA is susceptible to political pressure from the White House. With an over-reaching, often lawless White House, I'm pointing out a "logical" progression. I too would like such medical-status decisions to be adjudicated through the courts, until the leftists capture them as well. The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a government-run military veteran benefit system with Cabinet-level status.
Just curious but do you find it odd that some of the worst things are perpetrated by people proclaiming it done for god? I don't know what the Colorado and Arizona shooters called the voices they heard, but it wasn't God as neither were religious. The worst things are always done for The State, not for God. No expert here, but my take is that private browsing ain't all that. It's mainly helpful to hide porn activity from one's somewhat 'puter savvy parents or spouse. Though it's implemented a bit differently in different browsers, the main thing it does is negate cache on your own puter, and disallows storage of many cookies, but not necessarily all. Like most things in 'putering, it's a constant battle between browser developers and online programming. It does NOT hide your IP, however. It also has zero added security for online transactions. IP anonymizers will, but also have zero affect on transaction security. Your best and simplest hack security is still a hardware firewall (router), assuming you activate security protection/encryption on it, change default username/password and etc. - OS1 point

As much as this makes me dislike AZ even more, I have to wonder what their competitors' policies are as well. It seems whenever a story like this pops up, it's the same scenario. Most companies appear to have this stance.1 point

The people that are standing behind this decision need to be outed publicly by name. This man was not violating a policy; he was saving another mans life. I don't know about assaults in general, but there was a period of about 10 years between 98 and 2008 were there was not a single case of White on Black rape reported in the United States that turned out to be factual. There was the Duke Lacrosse thing, but that was a hoax. I realize we aren't talking rape here, but I believe violent white on black crime is very rare. Black on Black is FAR more common than any other. The bottom line is, the whole Martin affair had absolutely nothing to do with race until the media stepped in and even doctored tapes to make it appear as such.1 point
-
Well, there, mr.ak47, how about a source for that? I sourced that statement from DOJ crime statistics. Blacks are more likely to kill whites than vice versa by more than a 2 to 1 ratio.1 point
-
I would have to disagree with you there mark@sea, Because it's simply well, false. Most minorities simply don't live in the same area as most whites, therefore black on white crimes are far less common then vice versa or minority on minority crimes, I will however agree with your closing statement that this country is no place for thugs, gangs, etc no matter what color or creed they fall under i'd shoot a guy coming to my house with a blue bandanna, same as i would shoot one who came with a red one or a white hood over his head if i felt they were here to do me or my family harm.1 point

Black on white violent crime is far, far more prevalent. You won't see it on national news, though. Title should be amended; This country is no place for thugs.1 point

If you already know how to achieve a proper trigger "press", and you're capable of group shooting, and very serious about getting good at "the game", the key is to not necessarily shoot really fast, but perform all non-shooting portions of a stage as fast as you can. Good news is this non shooting stuff can be practiced for free via dry fire. Work on transitions, reloads, exploding out of positions, and drawing (without a trigger press, just sight picture)... If you can get really fast at all the non-shooting stuff, your stage times with be great!! For useful information on competitive shooting check out.. brianenos.com1 point

I view the various iterations of the Confederate flag not as equivalent to a swastika but, rather, as equivalent to the Don't Tread on Me flag and the original Stars and Stripes. The men who fought in the Revolutionary war owned slaves but that doesn't mean the war was 'about slavery'. It just means that King George III wasn't sneaky or deceptive enough to make slavery an issue in the war - unlike one Abraham Lincoln (even though Lincoln, himself, had already said that he didn't care about freeing the slaves.) Honestly, I think both wars were fought for very similar reasons - a group of people felt they could no longer abide the treatment they were receiving at the hands of the authorities of their government and so they endeavored to win their freedom from said oppressive government and create a government that was more in keeping with their ideals. The biggest difference, to my mind, is that the Colonials won and the Confederates did not. For that reason, and because I, too, have ancestors who died fighting for the cause represented by those flags, I will respect them and display them whenever and however I please. If someone else doesn't like it, thinks it is equivalent to a swastika or whatever then they are cordially invited to kiss my butt. I couldn't care less what other people think of me.1 point

One thing I don't understand is the apparent double standard that exists in these issues...the Confederate flag is perceived as racist by many...as would be any references to white magazines, beauty pageants, magazines, tv channels/shows, college funds, etc...yet calling those same things BLACK seems to be just fine. What about all the black racist things you see in public everywhewre, why is that ok? Last year I saw a black lady on a new show, cant remember which, but they were talking about racism, and she she was asked if something or other was racist, and she replied, "NO! Blacks cant be racist, only whites." I just don't understand how that works. I also like that flag. Its a symbol to me of my heritage. Years ago, I decided not to display it publicly because it just seemed to cause controversy, and I dont want to have to hurt someone over a flag. I accepted that perception sometimes is important.1 point

Well, actually it's pretty simple, and they are well on there way to establishing that. Let's think about this for a moment, shall we? Under our United States Constitution, who is pronounced as giving us our rights? Has anyone ever read it? Anyone ever read the "Declaration of Independence? Are our rights granted by the government? Are our rights granted by the law or the will of the people? Hell no! Our rights are granted by our Creator, as acknowledged by our historical law. What the government giveth, the government taketh away over time. Is the government taking Christianity out of schools, public displays, the courts, our lives? Of course! Are they promoting alternative life styles on things once considered evil, and now calling them good and we should be tolerant and accept them, passing hate laws, brain washing our children in public schools, etc.? Remember, you heard it here first! Look at recent history and our election results. By the "will" of the people, things are going to change, and not for the better. Our supreme court will be a liberal court before long and change the direction of this nation "more" dramatically. Our Constitution is being systematically dismantled, right by right, need I expand on that fact? Here's how I see things unfolding... No, I'm not going to write a dissertation, as who other than someone reading this on TGO is going to care, I'll not waste anymore time, other than to say... We will go into an agreement with the United Nations where the Constitution is null and void, and our UN agreement will be law. To do that, watch the dismantling of our rights, Executive Orders, Congressional inaction, the liberals and Hollywood. Just the way I see things forming guys!1 point

Consider an alternative acceptable solution. Imagine IF several more theater type situations happened, a couple more college campus massacres, and what if someone got a high capacity firearm into a football stadium jam packed, all within a short period of time, i.e. 1-2 years, the public will see past the 2nd amendment, and will want something done now. Then imagine a law being passed stating that the public has 1 year to turn in all weapons to some type of weapons dump, like when they setup to take household chemicals at the local strip mall parking lot, like when they ask for the public to turn in unused medications, like when you drop off your Christmas tree for recycle. Then like I said in the earlier post, the ones that do not turn in guns, you may or may not get caught. But the consequences of being in possession of any firearm will simply be met with severe punishment. Then the hold outs will not be able to fire the guns, will not be able to use in self-defense, and cannot even share with a neighbor/friend they have one. What if the law provides $10,000 for the information of and conviction of any person who may be in possession. Then this will cause brothers, cousins, neighbors, wives, sons, daughters, grandmas, and etc. to rat out the hold outs. Then what will be the point to be hold out! I recall recently shortly after the Colorado theater massacre, I overheard several people on different occasions at work talking about guns in general. Most people I know don't know that I am a gun nut, so I just listened. These are some to the comments: Why is it so easy to buy a gun, why must gun freaks need more than 4-5 shots anyway. Why can't a hunting gun be the only legal gun to own. They should just ban guns period. My conclusion, the general public are ripe for major change in gun purchases/ownership, it will not take much more to push our society over the edge to make changes.1 point
