  1. How about this - we just stop celebrating everyone's sexual proclivities. As long as the adults aren't molesting the kids lets just stop talking about it so much. Whatever happened to basic decency wen people wouldn't dare talk about their sexual relations in public? Jeez

  2. I would agree with this but I tend to doubt that most gays are abusive. If we as gun owners start getting on the bandwagon of blaming a whole group for the actions of a few we may as well just give up now. Oh wait, this is different. This is for the children.

  3. I keep my gun on my hip until I go to bed. When anyone comes to the door and I tell them that I'm not interested thru the still locked security door, the sight of my piece seems to put a nice exclamation point on my statement that I am NOT interested! I don't buy anything from DTD salesmen/women! Well maybe Girl Scout Cookies!

  5. 10-ring, it sounds like it's time for you to just make a hard fast rule about salesmen entering your home. This might be considered sexist by a few but the fact is most men consider it their responsibility to provide the safety for the home, whatever form that might take. If that is the case then you get to make the rules regarding it.

  6. Not true..... Zimmerman was captain of neighborhood watch. He seen what he deemed to be "a suspicious person"  so he followed(observing from a distance... not chasing him) this person while on the phone with 911, first from his vehicle then on foot after losing sight of him behind some houses. As soon as 911 dispatch said "we don't need you to do that".... he said "ok", and stopped looking for him and started back to his vehicle. By Zimmerman's account... when he hung up the phone as he approached his vechicle, Martin appeared confronting him from behind and asked him if he had a problem.... Zimmerman said no, to which martin replied "you do now!" and punched him in the face knocking him to the ground. Once on the ground martin alledgedly began beating zimmerman's head into the ground repeatedly. This constitues the ability to inflict serious bodily harm and/or death and I have person seen such injuries working in the ER. Zimmerman also claims during this physical altercation martin went for zimmerman's gun which zimmerman then shot him. This would have been a clear cut open and shut case of justified self defense had the local media not played a creatively edited version of the 911 call and misleading the general public into believing this was racially motivated. The LEO's did not want to charge him, the original DA(who was immediately replaced) did not want to charge him either. This entire thing was spun by the media for the sake of creating more news.

  7. This is what you get with a systematic disarming of a civilian population.  An increase in brazen attacks using edge weapons and a 20 minute wait for an armed police officer to show up.

  8. There was a great article a few months ago on the issue of disparity of force and the simple answer is no, you don't have to be within seconds of death from a beating before you can respond with deadly force.  The problem is that many DAs and juries don't always understand the concept of disparity of force and/or don't care and will prosecute anyway and juries may convict anyway.   Remember, that in most states the standard is a "reasonable fear of death or serious bodily injury"...but it might fall on you and your attorney to educate a DA and/or a jury about why the 200lb 60 year old was in reasonable fear for his life or injury from a beating he was getting from some unarmed 180lb 16 year old thug-want-a-be (especially when the thug-want-a-be's pictures on Facebook are all replaced with pics showing how cute he was when he was 12. ;)

  9. For some reason, the BSA is convinced I'm an Eagle Scout (I wasn't but they think I am) and I was surveyed on this issue a few months ago as I'm sure many here were.   Frankly, I don't have a problem with "gay" boys being allowed in scouts...they were already there anyway.  Improper sexual behavior is improper sexual behavior regardless of what sex or sexes are involved and sexual "anything" really has no place in scouts in any event.   Gay boys can benefit from learning how to pitch a tent, use a compass, build a camp fire and tie a knot just like any straight boy can.   I think some here are turning this into a "sexual" issue and it simply isn't...not allowing gay boys into scouts simply because they are gay makes about as much sense as not allowing children with red hair into scouts because they have red hair. Many seem to always want to make the leap from "being gay" to "having gay sex" one is simply not interchangeable with the other.

  10. too funny.    I did scouts with my oldest grandson for two years.  I don't know that any of the scouts were gay, boy scouts or cubs, and I doubt any of the leaders were.  But there were several ( imho) weirdo's involved in it all.  I just chalked up up to people being what they are and not worrying much about it.  Live and let live, yanno.   I did it for my grandson to be involved, met some very nice people.  I never let my true feeling known about anything really.  But them trying to force me to be a churchgoer really ate at me.  I was asked multiple times what church I attended and whenever I actually admitted to not going to church I was told every time that it was okay as long as I had a personal relationship with God.  I just smiled and nodded.  I was there to help my grandson and help the other kids in his den and pack so I ignored all the church stuff.   One incident about did me in though.  The entire pack met inside of the church that sponsored his pack to learn about the popcorn sales process.   They actually stood at the altar and pushed popcorn sales.  I sat in a pew listening attentively.  Happened to be wearing a ball cap.  One of the the boy scout adult leader actually came up to me and told me " take that hat off and show some respect while you are in a church" I was dumbfounded.  It was all I could do to not ask the guy if he ever heard the story of Jesus and the money changers.   I was pissed but just nodded and removed my hat.  What a bunch of hypocrite's.  Use the church as a church and I assure you I would have not worn a hat, but to peddle popcorn it did not seem like much of a church at the moment.   Anyway...   Homosexuals are not pedophiles.  It is damn ignorant to say that they are.   Are gay boy scouts as likely to rape non gay scouts as a hetero scout is likely to rape a girl?  Hell NO!   Neither is a very likely scenario.  Sex has no place in scouting,  it is about teaching boys to become upstanding citizens.   I could care less if a scout or a leader is gay anymore than I care of they are heterosexual,  none of that matters.   My grandson was a productive scout, we participated in most events and he earned a wide assortment of badges and awards.  We did camp outs hikes, outings, den and pack meetings.  He lost interest after his second year and never asked to go back for a third so I let it go.  He does football.      Oddly enough, I was a card carrying scout leader for those two years,  and when we did not come back after football season for a third year I was not contacted one time by anyone in his pack to ask where we were.   I am pretty much glad they didn't now.

  11. I know I haven't been a member of this site long enough that anyone here really cares what I think, but I'm going to give my opinion anyway. I just purchased a 9mm handgun in Feb. I currently have around 650 rounds of plinking ammo and about 150 rounds of self defense ammo (more than I'll probably ever use for self defense, hopefully)  and have shot up several hundred rounds at the range. All of this has been purchased since Feb.. For the practice rounds I have not paid more than $22 for a box of 50. It has been out there. It's a little higher than I like but not unreasonable. I absolutely refuse to pay any more than that and think anyone who buys the over priced ammo from resellers are just idiots. But just because I think its stupid doesn't mean that they should not be able to do it or that someone doesn't have a right to sell it for extremely outrageous price. I do, however have a problem with the scalpers that take all their relatives and friends with them to Walmart and buy up all the ammo on a regular basis. I also have a problem with Walmart when they always put out the ammo on the same days at the same times. It just feeds the scalpers and makes it harder for the regular customer to be able to purchase ammo. I don't even stop to check at Walmarts anymore because I know there won't be anything there anyway. All I know is that this argument needs to end. It is solving nothing and just causing bad feelings. Just my 2 cents, like it or not. I'm not going to argue either side of the issue.

  14. Agreed. When a Christian organization for children is allowed to be "bullied" into compromising their religious faith to accommodate people who do not share their basic tenants, values or beliefs, essentially corrupting the organization's premise for existing in the first place, this nation as we once knew it is doomed, doooooooooomed I tellzya! I am not kidding btw, very serious subject, I just like typing "doomed, dooooooooomed I tellzya!" Because it makes me look cool kind of like Fonzi, only without the painful herpies or the gay leather jacket... wait ... what? To be fair, 61% of voting members of the BSoA voted in favor off this. They weren't exactly bullied. They could have just as easily voted against it, just like they did with allowing openly gay leaders.

  15. Gay, straight... I don't see how sexual orientation one way or the other should be a topic of discussion during scouting activities. It's inappropriate. I was a scout until I was 10 or 11. We knew who the queer kids were, just like in school. I don't see how it affected anything other than them being made fun of for being girly. Maybe that will change. Other than that, anyone bringing up sexual orientations (hetero or otherwise) should not be doing so during scouting activities, so what's the problem?

  16.  I personally will keep walking but if faced with it will likely try to fight it out if i think there is a chance.... Now that being said i have a fair bit of training and experience in fighting and am still reasonably young and fit. On the other hand i would worry about going to a ground game fight  while armed because it is going to be a toss up who comes out holding the pistol.. This is something i think of often and i believe i have my battle lines drawn in the sand that i can live with.  Now on to others who may not be as young and fit, I believe your situation is MUCH different. You as a LEO have at your disposal, training, OC spray, baton, tasor, flashlight and sometimes backup.... Are you not seeing how much quicker a middle age man with none of those things you self admittedly had at your disposal would arrive at "fear of death or great bodily injury" ? I completely agree that you know the difference between a light scuffle and someone that intends to harm you as much as they can but i'm not a large intimidating man but i do possess training that would be impossible for anyone to know of so whos to say that BG doesn't possess the same.

  19. You have to understand something; the staff at many, perhaps even most car dealerships have their heads firmly inserted up their nether regions.   I was once the proud owner of a 1976 Firebird TransAm 50th anniversary edition (this was the forerunner to the "Smoky and the Bandit) Black/Gold TransAm).  There were less than 3,000 made (not enough for each Pontiac dealer to even get one) and less than 600 with the Hurst Hatch T-Tops (it was the fist car to ever come with a T-top). When I was thinking about buying a 1979 model to replace it, I had gone to the largest Pontiac dealer in Seattle to do a deal.  However, when I went to have the trade-in appraised the I had two salesmen and the Sales Manager argue with me; claiming that Pontiac had "never made that car" and that I must have had it done myself which decreased the value of the car (which was exactly the opposite of what thet car was doing in the market at the time).   Needless to say...I was pissed. Not only that they would diss my car but that they would stand there and arguel with me about it.   I realize that it ws a somewhat rare car...I can understand that it was just a trick to not give me a fair price for my trade-in...I can understand taht these sales people may have never seen one...I can believe (somewhat) that they didn't realize Pontiac had made it But, what I found truly amazing is that there guys were so incredibly stupid to stand there and argue with me and piss me off!!!   Well; they didn't get to sell me a new TransAm...I went the next day to a much smaller dealership, ordered a new 1979 and did the deal with them.   The moral of the story is, while not universally true, you probaly can't overestimate the stupidity of most car sales staff/dealerships. :)   http://www.78ta.com/limitededition.htm

  20.   You're correct. Opinion is the word I should have used, and yes we do all have one. Speaking of opinions, none of us have been  presented with any true unadulterated evidence. All we have been presented with is the conflicting, politically motivated and racially motivated opinions of a news media that has gone stark raving mad, a condition that continues to get worse as time passes.

  21. First, go setup a target.  Then what I would do is take the upper completely off and take out the BCG so you can see down the barrel.  Put it on some bags or some other steady rest.  Look down the bore at the target then adjust the dot to be about the same place.   Put rifle back together and start shooting for fine-tuning.   That's the cheap and easy way to do it.

  22. TMF:_________   Ya may have misunderstood.  Someone callin me a name dont bother me (....remember the little limeric....); and i dont see it as grounds for the use of force.  I wont call anyone a name; because of exactly what you've said.  You may hear them unkind words again in court via some sorry lawyer or politically motivated county prosecuter couched as a provacative move on your part to make your poor maimed (...or deceased...) would be assailant look like he wuz innocent and on his way to the nearest prayer meeting or skittles store when you assaulted him verbally then cold-bloodedly shot him down ALA Trayvon.    Again, movin toward me or those under my protection may be grounds for defensive action; should i feel my life or the lives of others are in danger.  Name callin is "playground kid stuff"; it shouldnt bother an adult.  Ive seen the name callin aimed at eliciting trouble as an excuse to 'beat down" someone.  I wont fall into that trap.  I'm too old for that.   Again:  Name callin--- OK, ill just walk away.  Punching, slapping, kicking, or layin on of hands--- bad.  Bad things could happen then.   Hope this clears things up a bit. leroy

  24. Well I disagree here. Sure, name calling ain't assault, but if done with the intent to elicit a violent response knowing you will use deadly force it is premeditated murder. No, it does not excuse the actions of the assaulter, but it doesn't exonerate the shooter as justified. If it did folks could just go around picking fights and then shoot a person when they threw the first punch. That isn't self defense. For example, Mike Tyson could easily kill me with one punch. If I was attacked by him or someone his size I would use deadly force to defend myself. However, if I call Mike Tyson a n***er knowing he will likely swing at me in response and l use deadly force to stop the fight I should go to jail for murder. No doubt I would in fear for my life, but that alone will not keep you out of a jail cell if you decided to initiate the confrontation. There are PLENTY of folks behind bars right now who tried this very thing, and they deserve to be there.

  25. Back in my high school days, a routine after-school fight turned deadly.  Punchee, feel into a hedge, a stick punctured his eye, into the brain, and he died.  Puncher convicted and charged with involuntary man-slaughter.  Someone already alluded to the soccer referee.  Also recall the school principal/teacher that was punched breaking up a lunch room fight here in TN.  Never regained consciousness and died.  Point is:  ANY blow to the head, either directly or indirectly (hitting ground, pavement, etc) may result in severe pain, disfigurement, brain damage, permanent loss of consciousness, or death.  So as a result one can reasonably say they could fear such a result and resort to protecting themselves with deadly force.  Sure, one must consider the whole situation, but the primary point was that of an unprovoked attack.  I'm getting a little older now, I prefer my chances with the DA, given my mind-set.   mind-set:  the last thing I want to do is shoot someone.  Avoid, don't provoke, walk away, etc.

  26. That isn’t true according to the 911 tape and Zimmerman’s statement. He was running and Zimmerman was chasing him because he thought he would get away. “Chasing”, “following”… word games.   That isn’t true either, Investigator Chris Serino wanted Zimmerman charged with manslaughter the night he was interviewed. The DA would not charge him. Certainly the people in the community got upset when the DA wouldn’t charge him; I would have been too. To claim this was spun by the media is ridiculous. It was a DA that did not do his job the way the people in the community thought it should be done. This was anything but a clear cut case of self-defense; this was murder. But, we only know what was in the press. He deserves a fair trial. My point is that if you start an altercation and then end it with a gun because you are losing; you will probably go to trial. You are getting your azz kicked in a bar fight that you are a willing participant in; do you get to pull your gun and kill they guy and then claim “Oh, I work in the ER and I’ve seen people seriously injured in fights.” The jury knows that people get hurt in fights, and just like me most of them will say, “Well then you shouldn’t have been in a fight; you should have walked away.”

Yes.  You have to remember that, in addition to getting his views out there, the purpose of the videos is to get Tactical Response's name out there, and to get people talking about the school.  Publicity is publicity is publicity.  Don't let your perception of him keep you from seeking training at Tactical Response.  They have many qualified and professional instructors...........and, yes, Yeager is one of those instructors.  People may not like his past or his attitude, but that really has nothing to do with the quality of training at the school.

  34. heh... I've got a good one...   About 10 yrs ago, I was home alone (don't remember where my wife was) and had just started cleaning my SKS on the coffee table when the door bell rang. Just for laughs, I answered the door with the rifle in hand (the bolt was sitting on the coffee table). The 19 yr old kid's eye got kinda big, but he took a deep breath and launched into his pitch. The fact that the came in anyway impressed me, so I let him go. I continued cleaning the rifle while he talked. At every opportunity I'd clack, snap, or pop pieces together quite loudly just to watch him flinch. I had to try hard to keep a straight face. He started sweating.   :)   He went through the whole demo of comparing the Kirby to my current vacuum and extolled the virtues of the Kirby. Being the nerdy engineer type, I counter-pointed nearly every feature he said was better and challenged him to explain why it was better. He struggled a bit but didn't quit. He conceded a few things that I convinced him weren't actually any better, simply more (and unnecessarily) complicated. When he didn't have an answer, he said he would find out and let me know. Somewhere in there I got finished with the rifle and put it away.   As with everyone else, these sale presentations are exceedingly long and it was dinner time so I started fixing dinner for myself. I offer him something but he refused and continued with this pitch while I cooked. His boss came back by the house about the time I sat down to eat. She was pretty cute and I figured this is where she swoops in for the kill.   :dirty:   I told her that the kid was an excellent salesman and had performed admirably in the face of some pretty difficult questions. So while I'm eating my supper, time to talk brass tax comes. She dropped the $2100 bomb on me and I nearly choked.   :stunned:   $2100?!?! For a vacuum? Are you freakin' insane?     Do you come with it and vacuum the house for me or something? My current vacuum cost me $100, do you know how much ammo I could buy with the other $2000?    We go back and forth for a while and the price eventually drops down to $700, which is still WAY more than I'd dream of spending on a vacuum. It had been over 2 hrs at this point and I decided I'd had enough fun for one night. So I looked the lady right in the eye and said (and I'm particularly proud of thinking this one up on the spot)....   "Ma'am, here's the deal. If I'm gonna spend that much money on something that sucks, it's damn sure gonna suck more than my carpet."     The kid nearly exploded trying not to laugh. Again, I had a hard time keeping a straight face. She quickly and calmly packed up the vacuum and left. I still laugh thinking about it.       But there's more to the story... I told this story to some co-workers a day or two later. When I got to the $700 part, one of them says "Aw f_ck." Seems he paid $900 for his but should've held out a little longer.

I told them to buzz off.  I didn't even open the door fully to allow them to look in.  I know for a fact they were trying to "case" the house.  I went to work the next day and told the story to co-workers.  The day after that I came into work and one of my co-workers girlfriends had let them in her house to do a "demo"(after he had warned her about my story).  There were four people in the house and all moving in differnt directions.  After they left she noticed all the cash was gone from her wallet.  They called the police and the whole deal, but that money was long gone.  Moral of my story: Do not let anyone in your house that you don't fully trust!

I have an opinion yes; so do you. Are we getting the whole story? Who knows; that’s what a trial is for. Obviously if you were Zimmerman you wouldn’t want me on your jury. But because I can look at the evidence as presented to us and make a decision I have an “attitude”? That’s ridiculous we all have opinions. The people of state of Florida will decide if what happened was justified. I was simply commenting on the case because it was used as an example for the question in this thread.

  47. I believe that the present Presidential Admin is reaching out and telling these Big name stores to start reducing the availability of ammo to the public.  It's a known fact that there have been 'closed door' discussions with Gander Mountain, Wal-Marts and a few other CEO's at these meetings with VP Biden. Now,  suddenly, these 'Assault rounds' are disappearing and not being restocked. Once they're sold , that's it.  I know these rounds are 'hot' right now, maybe it's just a matter of resupplying. But when store managers are saying now, right after these closed door meetings in Wash DC that they 'Can't or won't order ' any more, something stinks in Washington DC.  I think a total war is being declared on gun owners and we've only seen the beginning. Anti-gunners have said for years, take away the ammo, or tax it so high that folks can't afford it. Then guns become useless. No guns~~No crime. In their minds, it's a" Sensible Gun Law'.
