I was hunting down in Alabama a couple of years ago on a Sunday during the playoffs.  My buddy and I had been watching football, drinking beer and eating hot wings Saturday night.  Well I had not been hunting long before nature called.  With the beer and hot wings, lets just say it was not pleasant.  I had no sooner pulled my pants up when a buck comes running in snorting and grunting up a storm.  i guess he was looking for the other "buck" he had heard grunting.  I dropped him with a quick shot before I had even buckled my pants.

Well if the stupid azz people would quit buying that inflated price ammo, then they would stop.

Going through a difficult time lately, and I have 1 rifle in the house.  This may sound like someone wedded to the past, but that one rifle is my Garand.   Recoil is quite manageable.  It is a few pounds heavier than I'd really like these days, true - but I'm not up to playing action hero anymore, so very unlikely I'd have to tote it very far.   The caliber will stop anything I'm likely to shoot at with a rifle - I can't recall ever hearing that 30-06 is an underperformer.  I've even clipped up some black tip on the off chance I'm attacked by Christine.   Clip fed, but I've plenty of clipped ammo on hand.  3 seconds to shove a new clip in and get back on sights, and that isn't trying for speed.   Accuracy?  Maybe mine is specially blessed or something, but I'm accustomed to 1 MOA.  Iron sights, of course, but the best iron sights ever mounted on a bangstick.

Me and a buddy went squirrel hunting about 20+ years ago. his dad ended up walking along with us but not hunting. I was quite the novice and very excited about my second hunting trip. After about 30 minutes I got one and dropped it in the pouch on the back of my vest. About 20 minutes later as we were relocating I felt something move on the small of my back. I instanly knew what was wrong, The squirrel was still alive. I knew instantly how to handle this situation, I ran as hard as I could backwards and slammed into a tree, then would step forward and would thrust back into the tree trying to save myslef from the impending revenge of a stunned squirrel. On about the third time slamming by trophy into the tree I noticed my buddy and his dad laughing hysterically and the stick that the dad used to poke me in the back still in his hand.

Rushing took the gun from his four-wheeler and attempted to fire it. When it misfired, Rushing commented to the others, “This thing doesn’t work.” And that’s when he pointed it at his head.   Looks like he was DEAD wrong about that!

I'm more akin to "The Government's too damn big"  philosophy myself.

There is a different president now and the DOJ is run by someone who would otherwise be in jail the rest of his life.

RE:  The McCain "respect" thing.   I think we make mistakes passing out the term "respect" in lots of cases; and the McCain thing is one of them.   Its important that "respect" be passed out for action that gained it.  It is not "eternal" .... . It can be lost; and that is what has happened with McCain..  Said another way, respect is earned for the actions that precipitated that "respect"...   It can be lost.   It is not enduring.   The fact of the matter is that john mccain is an old hippie with a backbone; nothin else.  I dont like hippies on principle, and i damn sure dont like MCCain.  Havin said that, i held my nose and voted for him because i couldnt stand the alternative that we have now.     McCain is a genuine product of the rarified atmosphere that permeates the majority of the "Inside the Beltway Crowd" and the top echelons of the military. He symbolizes all that is wrong with politics today, both within the Republican party and politics in general.   He believes everything he says is right and that us delightful rustics should bow down and do what he says.. period.  John McCain is exactly like John Glenn.  He is a shameless politico who has used military service as a stepping stone to political debauchery.  He no more is a patriot today than i am an russian cosmonaut.    He is an old statist, out to tell us delightful rustics what to do and what to think.  After all, he is "...The best and brightest..." and we should bow down.  I say pooey.  Forget it.....I aint doin it; and i aint gonna honor anyone like McCain nor let him disarm me.    Remember, military service doesnt translate to patriotism.  It may translate to heroism, but it does not translate to patriotism.  The Hessians were german mercanaries for the British in the Revolutionary War.   non believin leroy

Well, you know the old saying...  Watch out for the feller with one rifle; he probably knows how to shoot it. 

Assuming ammo is already plentiful before SHTF I would go with my ar15 with 22 conversion kit to cover my bases for 223/556 and keep my Blachawk 9mm/38/357 for my pistol. Why? Easy, two guns, five extremely popular and effective calibers. I win.

Don't be fooled into thinking that since you've done it once the next time will be easier.

I was hog hunting with a buddy in south Florida one afternoon when nature called. I told him to go on ahead on the trail and I would catch up after I had finished my business. We were in planted pines and the forest floor was covered with 4 foot palmettos. I slipped off the trail a few yard and found a comfy spot. Just as I dropped trousers and squatted my buddy jumped a herd of pigs just up trail from me. I heard the squealing and palmetto rustling and realized they were headed right towards me. I desperately tugged at the .44mag on my loose belt with my left hand, while my right held firmly to my anchor sapling. As the hogs got closer, the gun finally came out of the holster. I cocked the hammer and pointed towards the noise, fully expecting to have a face to face encounter in the next seconds. The palmettos were so thick I couldn't see more than 4 feet in any direction. Finally the hogs passed without me seeing one. I finished and gathered myself, chuckling at the prospect of having to fire that Ruger .44mag one-handed from a squatted position, bare-assed, and the likelihood that I would have fallen backwards fulfilling every woodsman's worst bathroom nightmare. When I popped back out of the trial, there was my buddy. He said, I thought that old saying was going to come true, you know the one... I thought you went to crap and the hogs ate you... LOL.

  Your correct Raoul, for 22lr that is way to much and it's been pretty obvious that it will be the last to recover.  I really only looked at 40SW, 44 mag, 9mm etc that TankerHC and others mentioned in posts. My mistake......didn't really look at 22lr. The CF ammo I looked at was not at pre panic prices, but I doubt we'll ever see that again. The above calibers were nothing at all like the resellers are charging and that was what I was really posting about. The reasons everyone gave a few months ago as to why they were buying from the reseller at gun shows, GB etc....are gone.

...and yes, I needed lots of ammo. I got to see good shooters, got some advice. It was challenging for me and all was good. Thanks everyone.

My dad, uncle, cousin, and I all went squirrel hunting on some old family land. We spotted a huge squirrel nest  up a tree and saw what we thought was the biggest squirrel ever running around in it.  Dad sends me around the backside of the tree to scare the squirrel to his side.  I do, he shoots, and this giant "squirrel" comes  crashing down breaking branches as it falls. It hits with a loud thud!  It was a opossum! 

Oh, why do they have to be so far away. :(

Here is mine: I bought it a couple weeks ago off Gunbroker. It's not a typical Glock, it's their Professional Line, noted as "GL23PL, or PL23 for short. It's now my daily carry. I like it because with the included holster, you are guaranteed not to shoot yourself if it discharges negligently because of where it is pointed when holstered. And trust me, it discharges negligently a lot. It's worth it though because not only do these discharges replace my CW badge (because I no longer have to display that I have a gun when everyone can just hear rounds popping off in the distance while I am walking), but it also looks different too when I have to toss it to the ground shortly before being tackled to the pavement by the LEO's I now know by name. Top of its class though. Top of its class!

As promised, here is a couple pictures for your pork chop appetite! This 250 pound Feral Sow was taken last week on a controlled hunt at a local Refuge. You can't see them, but she has 2 1/2 inch teeth. I pit BBQ'd a shoulder and it was some KILLER BBQ!! Made a lot of sausage too! This 62 pound "Baby Bacon" (what I call little feral hogs) met it's demise the other day. Taken on a controlled hunt with 3" 00 buckshot. Got put in the freezer and the Ribs were BBQ'd yesterday....They were AWESOME!!! I'm all porked out now! DaveS "Hawg Daddy"

I have more faith in my marlin 30-30 than any rifle inxmy house. 7 round total capacity and the new hornady rounds are awesome! 200 yards with absolut ely no doubts.

Hood attack struggle with medical treatment and bills while the shooter is still drawing a paycheck.   How is what he has admitted he did any different than the terrorists in the 911 attack?

I agree, I can't enjoy city parks here in Nashville, or go into a city community center because it's posted...  State, county, and city property should not be able to post except in the cases of courtrooms, and areas that regularly house prisoners.  Outside of those 2 exceptions we should remove the ability for any government entity to post in TN.  

With the exception of detachable mag, I think your quals describe that Win94 in 30/30. However a detachable mag can be a negative because it can be lost. If I could have only one, my winny94 goes with me.

  Lever action for sure. Lots of options. I love my Browning B92 in .44mag. It's a blast, and holds 11 in the tube, and weighs somewhere around 5lbs. Fun, light, and plenty of power. It doesn't like cast boolits (micro-groove!) but is darn accurate with jacketed bullets.

If your definetly wanting a bolt gun then the gunsite scout is about the only one that fits the criteria. If you wanna go to .223 then the Mossberg MVP takes AR mags and is a bolt gun. http://www.mossberg.com/products/rifles/centerfire/mvp-series Tapatalk ate my spelling.

Florida fans without a doubt are the worst, much more than "rowdy", just plain douchebags.  I'd say LSU fans are second but they are more rowdy in the sense of just liking to raise hell.   I do know that Tennessee fans have been treated like shit in both Gainesville and Baton Rouge.

Teardown is is easy. It's learning how to hold your tongue and tilt the gun to get it back together that's interesting.

I'd rather see the money go to the Wings than anything else over there. Seems if I had to pick between giving it away to all the welfare cases or giving it to probably the only organization left in Detroit that still has the ability to make money, I'd rather spend it on the guys who actually do SOMETHING with their time other than sit around on the stoop drinking "fowdys". 1.  FAL 2.  M14 3.  G3   I have carried and fired all three in their military issued configuration.  Today I own all three in their semi-auto civilian version.    -  The FAL is the best overall battle rifle due to its ergonomics, ease of maintenance, tough reliability and "minute-of-chest" accuracy.  It does everything well. -  The M14 is the most accurate battle rifle due to its great trigger and outstanding sights.  A very good choice for a DMR. -  The G3 will shoot any sorry-ass ammo that you can put in it, it does not care.  Has poor ergonomics for "running the gun" and the most felt recoil.   None of them are worth a SH*T firing full-auto. All of them are heavy to carry as well as the ammo to feed them (one of the reason that the Infantry is a young man's sport).    JMHO....., but based on my real experiences with each weapon.

Sure, I get that. I guess what I was trying to say is that it couldn't happen because it is logistically impossible, and that doesn't even take into account the human factor. Democrats don't need to use military force to destroy this country and limit our rights. They do a fine job the way they do it now.

I am in no way supportive of OWS and I agree with the juries decision on the Zimmerman case, but please do not try to confuse or equate OWS actions with Terrorism. In no way are their actions anything close to those of suicide bombers, 9/11, Ted Kaczynski or Timothy McVeigh. The more we loosely use this term, the more power we give the government to abuse this term to attack its own citizens. Just google domestic violence and terrorism and you can see how this term can be misused. Some folks want to act as if McCain is some kind of anomaly within the Republican party but that simply is not the case.  I mean, this guy was chosen as their candidate for President in the next to last election.  That means enough Republicans (or, at least, enough of the Republicans that matter - the ones who really pull the puppet strings) thought he represented everything the party believes and stands for that he was picked as their '#1 guy' less than eight years ago.  Perhaps even more than the Obama vs. Romney nonchoice, the Obama vs. McCain election was proof positive that it really doesn't matter which side of the plug nickel we vote for as the 'differences' between the two major parties really aren't all that different.  McCain is simply confirming that fact, again.

over 5k rounds in my M&P40 and not one problem, BTW this is my duty weapon and we qualify 4x's per year.

If you know me, you already know what I am about to say but I am gonna say it anyways. John McCain? Fuck that guy.
