  1. As soon as I woke up this morning I all but ran to the TV to see if he was still standing. Not only was he still standing but he continued on until the official new day has to start at 12pm et. He has to have had a catheter bag hanging on his leg, if not one on both legs. Ted Cruz is a senator that all others should strive to be more like IMO.

  3. This has been discussed many times and back when Obama threatened to sign it the Senate told him then that they will never ratify it and you can bet they won't sign it with Kerry either. And I do think Kerry does not have the authority to sign it and has over stepped his authority and should be charged with Treason for his actions..........jmho

  4. The police department has admitted to the media they took the sign all 4 times without leaving any paperwork, or documentation for the owner.  At the end of the day it seems the department violated the law and the constitution.   This is a very serious issue, while the sign might have been about the 2nd amendment, the violation is going to be a clear 1st amendment one.  People should end up in jail over this.

  5.     Yeah?  Tell that to Taffy Three.  There are times you have to fight, even when - or especially when - you're going to lose.  A recurrent complaint about the Republicans in the senate is that they are spineless weasels - to the point where they are indistinguishable from the Democrat weasels.   Win, lose or draw, I want a dog that will fight.

  8. Some of you people shouldn't be allowed to eat outside of your homes or fast food.  It is amazing the mental leaps and justifications people make in order not to leave a tip or a miserly tip.   You can always recognize someone who has worked in the industry.  They differentiate BS excuses & poor service from legitimate issues or mistakes.  They also tip accordingly.    Everyone thinks they can work in a restaurant.  Until they actually do it and see how stressful it is.  Besides dealing with the people who want a well done steak (but not burnt!), make lemonade out of sugar, water, and lemonade (to avoid paying that $2.50), people eating their entire plate of food except for 1 or 2 bites (and then trying to complain and get their money refunded), etc, etc.  Jesus, the staggering amount of scumbags, thieves, and cheapsters you deal with on an everyday basis is infuriating.  I've seen a woman picking a hair out of her head and putting it in the remains of her food to try and get over.  Yay COGIC  , Jesus saves.    If an extra couple dollars, in order to leave a good tip, is going to break your wallet then you shouldn't be eating out.

  9. To preface the story, my elderly mother lives with me, and she was in my car with me this evening.  During our trip, I accidentally cut one.  I couldn't help it, and this was an absolute tear-jerker (the downside to a very high protein diet).  It was so bad that my mother started laughing and claimed that I had died.  After the aroma died several minutes later, I quipped at how embarrassing it would be to do that during an intimate moment.   My mother spoke up, "Speaking of that, this is your house and I don't care what you do in your bedroom.  However, when you have someone over, make sure you do not do it on top of your bed spread.  I had to clean it today."  I had no idea how to respond and felt really embarrassed at first.  Eventually, all I could do was laugh.  It was a good and funny moment to an otherwise crappy day.

Ted Cruz in his filibuster against funding Obamacare, just read "Green Eggs and Ham" to the gathered august body of blowhards.  His punchline was perfect:  "I do not like Obamacare with a fox in a box, or with a mouse in the house."  That's putting it on their level.

  14. Robert,   We've had this argument before...  This is settled case law...  signs with political speech are protected with a strict scrutiny standard, if he was in violation of a city ordinance, it was a clearly unconstitutional city ordinance per the case I bothered to lookup and cite.   Even if he was in violation of a valid city ordinance, there would have to be a HEARING before a judge or magistrate to order him to take the sign down.  Normally in most cities such actions happen as the result of a citation that is provided to the homeowner, but there would have to be some notification.  Clearly that didn't happen here - from statements from the police department in question.   Even if the sign was in violation of a valid city ordinance, and they had a legal order to take the sign down, they still don't have the right to steal his signs with no documentation provided to the owner as to where he can collect said sign.   And finally, the first thing his attorney is going to do is find out how many other signs this officer has taken under this city ordinance over the last couple of months, what do you think the chances are it's only these 4 signs?  I'd be willing to bet a six pack of beer we'll find out it's 4 signs :)   Communities have to follow the rule of law, a community can't take your property without due process of law...  which means they must notify you that you're in violation in writing, offer you a chance to argue your case before a neutral third party on how you're not in violation, and receive a documented order or judgement with which to comply.     There is no way to paint this case as anything other than a criminal and unconstitutional act.

  17. I would be happy if someone would just go ahead and filibuster the House and/or Senate continuously until Election Day 2014. A grid-locked and shutdown government is preferable to one that enacts legislation that destroys the country IMO. I can't speak for the rest of the country, but Ted Cruz has earned my respect.

Who cares about the upset neighbor...  neighbors can whine and moan all they want...  it's when a government official shows up, tears down your property and steals it that we should be worried :)   It's even more concerning because the property in question was a sign with political speech on it.

  20. The notion that laws that have been passed MUST be funded is a canard. The Congress has chosen not to fund plenty of Laws through out the years - this would not be the first time such a tactic has been tried. Don't let the lefties fool you into thinking this. Congress has the power of the purse precisely so that unpopular laws and projects must constantly be reconsidered by the current Congress. Thus no Congress can really pass any law that another congress can't refuse to fund or change through a new Act.

  23.   And this is the reason I have, and will continue too, tip on the credit card.   I also don't believe that it is an industry-wide standard to essentially "guess" at a servers tip based on the amount of sales he/she had for a night and force them to claim it on the w-2. My guess is that would lead to too many lawsuits regarding over-estimation of taxable income on the side of the employer.     I do believe (from first hand accounts by my server friends) that there is an industry-wide practice of under reporting tips to a.) lower the taxable income at the end of the year; and b.) forcing the restaurant to pay the difference between their "earned income" (a combination of hourly rate and tips) and the minimum wage.  So essentially by under reporting tips, the servers are asking the customer to subsidize their income with tax-free, non-reported tips; and stealing from the employer by forcing them to pay them more.

  27. TIPS = To Insure Proper Service   I did 8 years hard time in a restaurant. It's hard work and lower pay.. But I am a great tipper to good server.  Just pay attention to me, that's all I ask..I don't need my butt kissed, I should not need to ask everything.  If I have fries, yes I need catchup.  If my water is empty, yes please I need water.    If the adults at a table order more than one "orange drink" you aren't going to get a tip!   I'm lucky enough(not really) to go to an area of Ft. Lauderdale regularly that is right near the cruise ships and all the restaurants add 15% to every ticket.  The level of service is horrendous, you can show up to a bar drunk and leave sober because the server knows they are getting 15% regardless.     Take care of me as a customer and I promise I'll take great care of you..

  28. "Expected" to make? What server "expects" to only make minimum wage? I can tell you, if the job only made min wage no one would do it. It is extremely stressful, fast paced work. Often times your server is working a 12 hour day, and there is only a few hours a day where they're filling all those tables, so when it isn't a rush or they're doing side work after a shift, they're only making 2.13/hr while they're doing it. Also, what meals are you having at Ruby Tuesdays or hooters that costs $25 bucks everytime?

  30. Servers who make crappy tips are either working in a low standards restaurant (like Awful Waffle) or they are crappy servers. I was a waiter for a few years. I made awesome money despite the fact I can't stand most people. Bottom line is you're selling a service. If you aren't good at it then you won't get paid for it. Servers need to expect to do more than just run food and drinks to make their tips. They need to make it a pleasant dining experience by adding to the atmosphere. That doesn't mean you have to be up your table's ass, but you need to make them walk away having had a very pleasant experience. If you don't your tips will reflect. The industry tends to be dominated by young women, since they are fun to look at, but dudes can clean up too. We just have to work a little harder and pay attention to detail. I made great percentages; usually about 20%. Yeah, there are those people out there that just won't tip well or at all. You tend to get a feel for those people (they're always aholes and they convince themselves the reason they don't tip is principle, yet those principles are strong enough for them to eat at a non-tip min wage establishment) and the service and attention I gave those people reflected their historical tipping amount. The number of people (back then) that didnt tip were so low it didn't matter; wasn't even enough to get worked up over. I've come across many servers that do nothing but complain about bad tips. These are usually entitled little snots that believe they should get great tips without having to do anything beyond the minimum standard. Those people generally don't last long. If they do, they are the worst servers you'll encounter. They don't get it and they never will. Always the victim, blah blah blah. I almost always give a server the benefit of the doubt when I get subpar service. They may be weeded because they are picking up slack for more tables or another server. Maybe they're just having a bad day. Very seldom to I give a crappy tip. I can count on one hand the number of times I've given out no tip at all, and they deserved every penny of it.

  34. I think a lot of you are underestimating the number of hours a server works too.  By the time you include getting to the job on time, going through line up, reviewing the menu/specials, setting up, working, closing down, doing side work, etc....you're looking at an easy 8 hours.   I haven't worked in a restaurant since 2005 but I can't imagine that its changed that drastically.  I worked in one of the better places in Memphis and that job was no joke with regards to the stress of dealing with people and the managers.  Waiting tables is not easy.  Again, you can recognize someone who has worked in a restaurant before.  They recognize the difference between BS excuses and good work.   And they tip accordingly.

The Dems stand a high potential of carrying ACA on their backs in the midterms next year, and Cruz, Paul, Lee, etc. know that too. The abject failure of Obamacare will be evident in due time.

  37. I've never called for a revolt, or suggested having one would be a good thing, or lead to good results...  Only my opinion that one is probably coming, and it will be the other side of the political spectrum that likely starts it.  If that revolt happens it will likely be the result of a currency crisis or brought on by the end of the US Dollar as the worlds reserve currency - which would likely trigger a currency crisis.   I think your description of the likely outcome is about spot on, and that we likely would see many different forms of tyrannical governments grow out of what was once the US.   I have a slim hope that freedom and liberty will take hold in such an aftermath and we might see people who want to return to true individual freedom, but that is a slim hope at best.  Although I feel the best way to do that is to educate and open the eyes of small government conservatives to those ideas now, because it will be way too late by the time we see bad stuff happen.   Trust me if I thought there was a likely positive outcome for freedom and liberty, I'd already be out there causing problems, not talking about it on here ;)

  39. I deal with a lot of teachers, mostly church circle folks.     There are 5 things that come around again and again as problems that make the schools low quality and unable to educate...   1) no child left behind act.   Complete morons who cannot learn remain in the class, many with behavorial issues that distract the other kids.  2) teachers have no authority to perform even mild punishments for disruptive, disobedient, or otherwise disfunctional kids. 3) the material has been dumbed down to the lowest common denominator --- see problem #1 4) the material has been modified.  "New math" -- where the wrong answer is OK if you talk about how you feel about that.  Modern history, where apparently minorities and women ran the country from 1600 to 1980.   Logic, science, critical thinking, and such are GONE, replaced with rote memorization and psychobabble, PC agenda, and liberal indocrinization.  5) modern parents, who simply do not discipline nor work with their kids nor do much of anything at all that could even remotely be called parenting.   this is all third party, from their comments filtered thru my memory.  But it sounds like if a teacher wants to keep her job, she does 1-4 and acts happy to be doing it.

  42. At the risk of discussing "religion"; Romans is the passage most people refer to yet Paul himself "disobeyed" the government (Rome) on many occasions...what most people, even some pastors don't understand is that no where in the Bible are we instructed to follow laws that are in direct contradiction to God's word.  However, there is a significant difference between resistance to immoral laws and violent rebellion.   The colonists had sufficient provocation to rebel as they had not other avenue left to them...we, on the other hand, have the benefit of "rebellion" at the ballot box and that is that method we should use unless that option is taken away from us.

Or, will it just stay there until eventually surgery is necessary.   If it won't go away, find out what the probability for successful surgery with no complications is.  You might have to do your own research to find this information. I would NOT trust one doctor's opinion, but that's me.

  50. Programmable thermostat, we saw our energy bill drop 30%. We se the house to be at our comfortable temp from 6am-10am and then from 5-10 pm and 4 degrees(up or down based on season) off during the other times. The one we got was $50 so that would leave you enough to get an water saving heads for your sinks, that cut our water usage almost 50%. The best part is that in sinks you don't notice the lower water usage. My wife makes fun of me because of all the stuff I have done to save on the utility bill. When we moved into this house we were paying $200 for power and $90 for water per mo on average. After the thermostat, faucet heads, shower heads, and new light bulbs ( combo LED and CFL) we are down to $120 for power and $35 a mo on average. That comes out to about 1,600 a year. I am getting new windows and insulation put in and because the bill is so low now I will probably not see a great ROI on those. I also look at it as a way to see the bare minimum we need to live comfortably so we can adjust our prepping accordingly. If I can drop the power usage another 20% we can go off grid with solar. When I can move somewhere with well water I will be all set.
