To do list: Dress up in my camo Strap on a gun Walk around a playground Wait for someone to call to the police Wait for police to arrive Refuse to identify myself Refuse to leave when asked Feign surprise when they arrest me Make bail Post my story to the internet Revel in the righteous indignation within the echo chamber that I exist I'm sorry. People can "lawfully exercise their rights" all they want. Like so many of the other open carry "evangelists", this man went looking for a confrontation and found it. That's not helpful to the community of gun owners at large.5 points

Both Metcalf AND Hornady need a lesson or three in Constitutional history and structure. The Constitution doesn't GRANT rights. It protects specific extant rights which are acknowledged as being "granted" by one's creator.3 points

When the Brits came for the guns in Concord, it was not the rifles or pistols they were after it was the cannons! The Brits wanted the ships as well, so when the citizen solider has to defend their freedom they have to have arms that match or be better than the tyrannical Brits that wanted to disarm the people. So what is the difference between a pistol, rifle, full auto, semi auto, tank, plane, ship or nuke? There is none, The 2ND does not define "ARMS" it just says we have right given by God to have them!!! No I dont want a nuke, plane or tank, but if push comes to shove I will wish for them. The 2ND has been stepped on for far to long, started when the government said we could not have full auto and has gotten worse as time has gone by, and we let it happen!!!3 points

The consequences of failing again and again to deliver on your promises of smaller government are lasting too. This is a bed of the Republican party's making. Every time they voted for pork, every time they added just-one-more-earmark, every time they voted the wrong way when it advanced their personal interests eroded a little more support. Lest we forget this recent headline... "Mitch McConnell gets nearly $3 billion for Kentucky dam project in congressional deal" That's everything you need to know about the Republican party's problems, right there.3 points

This man was figuratively and literally anally raped by the police, the judge who signed the warrant and the doctors who performed the searches. Every single person involved should be held personally, and physically accountable. I do have to give credit where due and commend the doctors at the first hospital who refused to assist due to its obviously being an unethical action.3 points

I don't think anyone believes criminal activity will stop if drugs were legalized, just criminal activity related to drug dealing. It would be no different than the prohibition on alcohol. There were criminal empires built during prohibition that ceased to exist when booze was legalized. Why is someone "off-kilter" to suggest legalization other drugs would have the same effect? It just isn't logical. Furthermore, why should I care that people who haven't taken the time to think critically and logically on a subject think I'm a crackpot simply because I disagree with the unfounded assumptions of the masses? Someone make a sheep comment please. Drugs are bad, m'kay. That's all I'm getting when we talk about why they should be illegal. That just isn't enough for me to justify a law or hundreds of billions of dollars in an ineffective "war" to stem the flow of them into our society.2 points

Well then booze is destructive too, yet we have plenty of threads here promoting the drinking and making of it. I smoked pot when I was younger and can tell you the only dangerous part of using pot was buying it. I have no problem with marijuana. It's just a plant. It never made me do anything crazy. I can't say the same about booze. If it was legalized I still couldn't use it because of work. Even still, I have kids, so smoking pot wouldn't be an option anyway, legal or not. Someday when I'm elderly I'll probably pick it up again. I can't think of a reason why I wouldn't. I don't think that makes me a bad person, lazy or a degenerate addict. I can't figure how it is worse than someone who occasionally drinks.2 points

So the person who shot them, in fear for his life", took the law into his own hands. Some comments: The police have no obligation to protect "an individual", per the Supreme Court, which means the individual is on his on. And, did the two not take the "unlawful" into their hands? Good kids don't rob. Good parents don't say their kid never had a chance to go straight unless they can prove that they did their job to keep him from "hanging with the wrong people". Own up, people! Take responsibility for your actions!2 points

Obviously, the fine officers involved in this incident were simply doing their jobs. After all, they risk their lives to protect the public from keister stashers on a daily basis never knowing if the next stop will get them killed covered in explosive diarrhea. Shouldn't they take any steps necessary to make sure that they go home to their families every night not smelling like a gas station restroom? I mean, aren't they the 'good guys'? So what if some random citizen gets anally violated now and again - it isn't like the rights of private citizens matter when compared to the necessity of continuing to fight the war on drugs. Right? Right?2 points

Well, I have never seen a parent yet that cannot tell you how good their child was. Even John Wayne Gassey's mother said he was a good man and had about 20+ dead children buried in his yard and under his house. When anyone makes a decision to become a criminal and begin robbing stores they know it s wrong and they know that there may be a time when things could go bad for them but they chose that way of life and should be ready to suffer the outcome. In this case it was an outcome of permanent ending to what may have turned out that sooner or later they may have killed store owner of any other innocent by stander. If the man that killed them did fear for his life and was in between them and the get away car and driver then he had the total right to defend himself. I look forward to hearing more about this case as it moves forward...............jmho2 points

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt pocket/purse-sized Tazer. The effects of the Tazer were supposed to be short lived, with no long term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to saftey...?? WAY TOO COOL!!! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home...I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time, I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs. AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what the burn spot is on the face of her microwave. Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two AAA batteries, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a secone) and then thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself againist a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong? So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and Tazer in another. The directions said that: A one second burst would shock and disorient your assailant A two second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; and A three second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting batteries. All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference (loaded with two itsy, bitsy AAA batteries) pretty cute really, and thinking to myself, "no possible way"!! What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best. I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side so as to say, "Don't do it stupid", reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny lil ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad...I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and ..... HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. WHAT THE ....!!!! I'm pretty sure Hulk Hogan ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs! The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room. Note- If you ever feel compelled to "mug" yourself with a Tazer one note of caution: There is NO such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by violent thrashing about on the floor!! A three second burst would be considered conservative! A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. *The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. *My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. *My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. *I had no control over the drooling. *Apparently I had crapped in my shorts, but was too numb to know for sure, and my sense of smell was gone. *I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head, which I believe came from my hair. I'm still looking for my testicles and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return! My wife can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift and now regularly threatens me with it! If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!2 points

"Not a big hard criminal." And although a drug user, he maybe would have robbed the store to pay child support for his young daughter. These comments from his mother. Ok, she virtually says he is a criminal, maybe not Al Capone yet, but might rob to pay his obligations for child support. The late "not big hard criminal" didn't think working was the way to care for his child? Work bad. Theft...ok. What's wrong here? Maybe he would have turned his life around. Maybe not. But he chose a course of action and received the consequence of his choice. Sadly, the results were terminal. He won't get to try again. Choices and actions have consequenses. We all learn that. Some more easily than others. I know I did. And I'm living the results of my choices. Some good, some not so great. As for the shooter, well...I wasn't there. I won't say he was right or wrong. But the report says he shot in self defense. If that's the case...there's another bad choice for the "not a hard criminal."2 points

I used more than a few drugs back in my younger years, I'm no worse for the wear from the experience. I know plenty of folks who can say the same. I also know quite a few who managed to completely screw up their lives (almost exclusively due to legal troubles) and some who ended up dying from drug use. Most folks who try drugs, including the big bad scary "hard" drugs don't become addicts and fiends. They use them recreationally and then move on to different things as they mature and have different priorities. Ultimately, the amount of harm drugs do or do not do to the individual has never been the root of my argument for legalization. It is a liberty and property rights issue for me. The article was posted as more of a food for thought and conversation starter. As Doug Stanhope puts it so well, if you don't own anything else, you own your own meat. If I truly do own my own meat, my body, then I should be at liberty to treat it however I want. If I want to treat my body excellently and never ingest anything harmful, eat well and exercise that is my right to make that choice. If I want to treat my body like a rental car and eat fast food, sit on my ass, drink to excess, smoke and even take drugs, that too should my right to take my choice. As a society we didn't learn anything from alcohol prohibition apparently. We still seem to think that it is ok to trample on civil liberties, spend insane amounts of money on law enforcement and prisons and create a large black market that will guarantee the involvement of some of the most unsavory and violent people all just to tell a small minority of the population that they can't put something into their own body. It is just downright dumb.2 points

It strikes me as funny that were you to change the word drug to the word gun in that sentence, you'd more than likely have 100% agreement. Personally I say deregulate the whole lot. If the government wants to stay involved they can continue to schedule them however they want and make it a crime to sell or give them to minors without approval from a doctor. From there if a state wants to have further regulations that's their business.1 point

So then why are people going to liquor stores to buy booze as opposed to hitting up their local moonshiner? No doubt about it, legalization will remove the more dangerous chemical compounds and the criminal enterprises which thrive on illegal vices, unless you believe there are still people being machinegunned on the streets of Chicago over the booze trade.1 point

I don't necessarily think that we need to support an idea that allows the state to make yet more money off of those of us who wish to carry where we should be able to legally carry, anyhow. In other words, I don't think we need to have an 'enhanced permit'. What is the justification for such a permit, anyhow? Instead, as long as TN continues to have a permit, then all carry permits should be 'enhanced' - especially since obtaining an HCP, at all, requires attending a training course (one major distinction between the basic carry permit and 'enhanced' permit in MS seems to be that the 'enhanced' permit requires attending a training course while the basic one requires no, formal class.) After all, if I am 'safe' to carry my firearm in Walmart - where a cross section of my fellow citizens go to shop - then why would walking into a public school, a government building or a 'posted' business suddenly turn me into a mass murderer? It honestly makes no sense, whatsoever. Either I can be trusted to carry a gun or I cannot - and if I am trusted to carry my firearm around families with children in Walmart or at McDonald's then why would I not be trusted to carry around those same children in a school, around public employees in a government building, inside a 'posted' business or in the parks of one city or another? Until/unless Constitutional carry becomes the law in this state and as long as a permit is going to be required to carry and as long as background checks, etc. are required those of us who have an HCP should be legal to carry pretty much anywhere. The permit should also cover tactical batons, etc. as well as knives with blades over four inches and other, similar tools that could otherwise bring about an 'intent to go armed' charge. If we are going to have to pay for the privilege of exercising a 'right' then we should at least be getting our damned money's worth.1 point

Looking good! Welcome to the wonderful world of bedroll camping! Coldest night I ever camped (-16 degrees plus a 10 mph breeze, on the high plains of Western Kansas - we had to sleep with our canteens to keep them from freezing solid) I stayed warm with the help of a scout pit, 3 wool blankets and a canvas groundcloth. Worst part was next morning when we (my best friend and I - we were on a primitive trek) realized that we hadn't made as many miles as we thought we had and still had a four mile hike to true shelter. Thank God for wool!1 point

Have you checked to see which eye is really dominant? Do the thumb. Look at a door knob twenty feet away with both eyes open. Cover the knob with your thumb, close one eye, then the other. Whichever eye 'keeps' the thumb over the door knob is your winner. I am left handed but right eye dominant. Simple, the majority of the world uses the wrong hand, so I just learned to do it. I have shot rifle right handed all my life. I don't have a weak hand with pistols, though I do carry on my right side. My daughter is the opposite. She is a right hander with a dominant left eye. Guess what? Worked for me, works for her, she has been shooting left handed for a little over two years now. This of course creates a bit of an issue with the guns, but as she is seven years old, she has been shooting my old bolt action single shot .22LR since she started. She is on paper at 100yd with open sights. I don't think it slows her down any.1 point

Its big pro is mostly aimed at AR platforms in that, technically, the only thing that needs to be changed is the barrel. Because it's a .223/5.56 casing, it can be used in 5.56x45NATO STANAG magazines with no issues as well the bolt is good to go too since the casing, once again, is the same. It's basically an American produced 7.62x39mm, so to speak.1 point

Plenty of blame to go around it seems. 1)Idiot who brought loaded gun to gunshow to sell. 2)Person who checked the gun coming in (I'd cut a tiny bit of slack here). 3)Vendor who put a loaded gun on their table 4)Idiot who picks up gun off table and pulls trigger without checking.
