  1. Happy 238th Birthday Marines!!!! Semper Fi and may our brotherhood have many more to come. "The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!" Â Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of the United States, 1945 Tapatalk ate my spelling.

  3. Some faulty assumptions here.  First, the assumption that Obamacare was all about insuring the uninsured.  It wasn't, it is a vehicle for the government to nationalize health care. Second, that fixing the website will fix the problems.  It won't - once the websites are running and the employer mandate becomes effective, between 1/3 and 1/2 of Americans will find they cannot afford insurance.  That's part of the plan - those who cannot afford insurance will be paying the penalty.  Let's not forget that Obamacare guts Medicare Advantage.  'Single Payer' will become a necessity.   Lastly, don't confuse access to insurance with access to healthcare.  Many facilities and healthcare professionals will not be able to continue in the Obamacare business environment.       One reason there are so many RINO's willing to buy off on Obamacare 'under the table', is the rising costs of medicare, social security and various welfare programs.  The moneys paid into the system are long since gone, leaving the government with a whole bunch of IOU's.    Impossible to pay back retirees that paid in without destroying the vote-buying handouts.  Obamacare helps from both ends of the problem - both reducing and transferring healthcare costs from the government to the people, and reducing the life expectancy and associated costs of those who are no longer a good source of revenue.  The entrenched elite of both parties have no particular desire to get off the gravy train they've been riding the last 65 years or so.     Other countries have a government.  In the US the federal government has a country.

  10. My Combat Patches. Airborne! Air Assault! One of the things that I liked about the ACUs was the Velcro for the unit patches. I could change my combat patch out depending on the "audience." As a side note, I had a good friend who was a "Four-Patch All American" with combat tours with the 82ABN in Grenada, Panama, Desert Storm, and the GWOT.

  13.   At this point I would take Biden over Obama. Biden is an idiot. Obama is out to change the country to a socialist's dream. As far as Holder, he will leave when he wants to or Obama wants him to. If the house impeaches him, they are racist and gives the Dems. something else to bitch about. Unless the Republicans take the Senate, it goes no where.

  14. The content of the CCC today is irrelevant.  What is important is that everyone will be required to teach the same curriculum.  And the folks who determine that curriculum will have immense power.  Does anyone seriously doubt that over time, that curriculum will shift to the Socialist mantra?   As for me, whenever I hear that ANYTHING should be centrally managed, I am against it.  Freedom of choice in anything is always a better course.    These days, I strongly believe that sending your child to a government school is a form of child abuse.

  18.   It absolutely does.  "Patents or copyrights and/or especially trademarks" are exactly what claims that your Ruger is a Ruger and your Enfamil is Enfamil. When those laws are broken, you can get pot metal guns and poison baby formula (you might anyway, but the odds are infinitely more in your favor, plus there's a real entity to sue at worst).   While a fake Coach purse may not be life threatening, it is protected under the same laws. And should be, as a brand name is a reputation, and if a good one, a valuable selling point.   Making a look alike or generic product is one thing, but counterfeiting is quite another.   - OS

  20. TODAY'S LESSONS IN IRONY We are told not to judge all Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics. But on the other hand, we are also encouraged to judge all gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. How is that supposed to work? Meanwhile, The National Park Service, administered by the U.S Department of the Interior, asks us "Please do not feed the animals." Their stated policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves. Thus ends today's irony lesson.

  29. Part of me still says that carrying a recorder around everywhere I go is paranoid behavior at the least and surreptitious at the most. If one only carries a recorder when they OC, it still seems mostly surreptitious to me. I've never wanted/needed to OC bad enough to "risk" winding up in a situation like this. My personal choice is to carry concealed and avoid the hassle. In all fairness, though, there are those that feel like carrying a gun at all "risks" winding up in a situation of some kind. Likewise, these types think carrying a gun for protection is paranoid too. Either way, the attitude I choose to display to the officer seems to me like it's going to have the most effect on how the confrontation goes. Right or wrong being nice instead of insisting on being right is good karma and goes a long way. I'll choose not being a test case, not being hassled, and not making the news over being right 9 times out of 10. YMMV

  30. I own many rifles, bolts 5.56/308/30-06, AR’s .22/5.56/7.62, Garand, M1 Carbine, etc. They all have a purpose I guess that’s why we collect them. But if I had to pick one rifle for general duty in a SHTF scenario; it would be my DPMS 308 Panther, 308 20 round mags, long range, short range, single shot, spray and pray, iron sights, optics; it does it all. Now once you start talking about more specific tasks I might have to change weapons. DISCLAIMER: Carrying ammo won’t be an issue for me, nor will running around in rough terrain.

  31. I'm glad you liked it. I don't recall from the article and the OP didn't include it. Also, you seem to have a misunderstanding as to what agencies fall under the DHS. Those organizations have missions that don't involve terrorists flying plans into buildings. They have been enforcing these laws in the same capacity long before DHS was even a thought. I've written that several times in here and you've chosen to ignore that. Go to the DHS wiki page and educate yourself if you want to understand reality versus your incorrect assumption of what the sub-agencies of the DHS do. Also, there is no way to debate with you why stealing a trademark is theft. You don't get it. I think that has to do with some kind of resentful attitude towards successful businesses based on your previous posts. I'm betting, however, if you worked hard to create something only to have it stolen by counterfeiters or if you purchased a $500 item only to find out it is worthless junk, you would have a different opinion.

  32. While i personally avoid putting myself in situations which may lead to challenges with LE, i do beleive that these examples ARE like the lunch counter sit ins of the 1960's, or even Rosa Parks. We are in a renaissance time for development of 2nd amendment rights - much like the 1950s-1970s saw public and legal action on 1st and 14th amendment issues. My hat is off to anyone who manages to create a safe, respectful way of expanding the publics educations and understanding of the 2nd amendment. Sometimes it will take uncomfortable moments to create this clarity, but it is essential to our liberty.

  33.     It is literally stealing; it is theft. Fraud, embezzlement, robbery, and bad checks are descriptions of how a theft occurred; they are all still theft. Civil court is where you make an example out of someone that thinks it okay or where you recover the money they stole from you. Criminal court is where the government puts them in jail for their actions. Civil court is pretty easy; criminal court in these cases is usually hampered by jurisdictional issues.

  34. Nonsense, most good attorneys would tell you to cooperate and be on your way. “Good Attorneys” being those that advising you on how to handle the situation without going to court or being a test case. Nope, you are not required by law to respect anyone’s authority; it’s what I chose to do. I recently was at a party where there were a bunch of Military Officers present. It’s been many years since I was in the military and I enjoyed talking to them. I addressed them by their rank or “Sir”. I was not required by law to show them respect, but in my eyes they had earned that. I treat Police Officers the same way. If they start questioning me I know what to say and what not to say so we can both go on our way. Of course as I said; that’s just me. I treat people I meet with respect no matter who they are unless I have a reason to treat them differently. Some people have problems with any type of authority and have respect for no one. I just made an observation. I don’t fear going to jail if I open carried a gun; I just don’t see it happening. Maybe it’s my people skills.

  40. It's still going to be a little while, yet.   Uppers are still being machined.  Per the last update I got from Jeff, they plan to ship them out to be anodized on the 18th.  With the holiday, they hope to have them back and start shipping them out by the 10th of December.  So, assuming everything proceeds as planned, we should have no problem with having these in folks hands in time for Christmas - just like we originally hoped.

  41. Welcome to TGO, everyone!  Having spent the first 18 years of my life in Atlanta, I still have a fondness for the place.  Y'all have a lot of law from a firearms perspective that we would love to have up here in Tennessee.  Unfortunately, taking this same walk in any park in any major metro area in Tennessee would have you arrested with a different end result.   I'll be honest in saying that my first impulse is to shut this thread down - for two reasons.  One, is that we suddenly have an influx of people from outside of our immediate community coming onto the board to jump into this thread.  The second is that experience tells me that these open carry threads generally only go one way, and that folks will keep pushing the issue as long as they have a platform to speak.  I'm going to go against my impulse for now and keep this thread open, but everyone please be cognizant of TGO's code of conduct.  This thread is on thin ice, so to speak.   After reading the initial article that was posted here, the court documents and the majority of the thread over on GeorgiaPacking, here's the thing that just doesn't sync up for me - I just can't level set that this particular walk on this particular day had to result in Mr. Proescher getting arrested.    I'll agree that he shouldn't have been arrested.  I'd like to support his ability to carry openly.  It wasn't long ago in Georgia that this by itself would have constituted a crime.  I'm glad the security company settled and the Mr. Proescher got enough money for a nice AR out of it (though I will say that I've never seen a settlement agreement that doesn't have a confidentiality clause that prohibits talking about the outcome).  I'm glad this case hopefully resulted in some better training for somebody.  But, I fail to see how this case advances our rights, our agenda at large as gun owners or our message with the public at large.   This isn't the Woolworth's lunch counter, y'all.   I know that we trend towards these all or nothing positions these days, but I'd argue that we can all step back from the edge just a little bit.   I'd argue that there's some distance between Gestapo'ish "papers please" police force and a police officer who's just trying to figure out if a person with a gun on his hip represents a threat.   I'd argue that there's a little distance between helping less-informed officers understand the law as it exists and being non-cooperative.   I'd argue that there's some distance between being civil and how these encounters so often go.   There's some distance between having the government on your front porch and going to seek the man out so you can poke him with a stick.   I'll give Mr. Proescher a wide latitude as he presents his version of events.  But, I personally level set that with his statement in his signature over on GeorgiaPacking that he "will not answer questions, I will not produce identification."  I'll level set it with the fact that he left his license in the car, but brought his recorder with him.  I'd argue that had he presented a license - despite the fact that the law does not technically require it - he would have driven out of there that afternoon.   Like I said, I'll give the gentleman a bit of latitude, but looking at what we do know - regardless of whether the guard changed his story or not - it sure looks like he went out that day prepared to be detained, whether or not he actually expected it when it happened.   This case may actually hurt the community because now there's opinion in Georgia that open carrying is reasonable suspicion to detain.  I didn't see in the GeorgiaPacking thread that the decision was going to be appealed.    I'm sorry, but I just don't see how this helps the community of gun owners at large.

  43. As the amendment was written, "well regulated" meant "well drilled."    Use of the term "militia" implied a duty to be armed and trained.    All of this was to ensure the blessing of liberty and protect it against those who would suppress it.   What foresight the founders had.

It's not a war movie in the same sense as those mentioned, but one of the most dramatic and impressionable films is Schindler's List, which focuses on a war within a war.  Those Jews lived every day thinking it may be their last.  Virtually every actor and actress delivered an exceptional and riveting performance.
