  1. This sounds like a job for someone with insurance.

  2. I only use organic firewood.  I really prefer free range when I can get it, too.  My firewood shouldn't have to spend its life boxed in with a bunch of other trees just sitting around and waiting to be burned.

  4. My hats off to the gentleman, he showed a tremendous amount of restraint. I have a problem with authority that is really hard for me to keep in check at times, being kept from my kids would have flipped my switch. IMHO what you have here is a Beta male (the officer) dealing with what he perceives as an Alpha male (the parent) and he is determined to show that he is not going to be intimidated or pushed around. (Even though the parent was the definition of calm) Good job officer, you should have just wet yourself and given the man his kids.

  5. Good thing I don't have kids. This is just another reason I refuse to have em. Rules or no rules, those are HIS kids. If he wants em, he should have them. He shoulda ripped that fat ass rednecks throat out. Never come In between people and their children. I'm a cop lover and take up for them time and time again. We also don't need another stupid cop bashing thread but this resource officer needs his ass stomped. Not reprimanded...physical bludgeoning. I hope the guy wins a lawsuit large enough to put his kids through 4 years of Vanderbilt; room board books and tuition.

  6. Where are the under color of law charges against the deputy?  There is no disorderly conduct here, the guy never raised his voice, never cursed, never threatened the officer or staff with any violence, or unlawful conduct...   As I see it the deputy committed 3 kidnappings under the color of law, the two minors he would not release to his lawful guardian which is a violation of state law, and the unlawful arrest of the father.   This deputy losing his badge should be the least of his worries, he should at the very least be sitting in jail waiting on his trial, looking at spending the rest of his life in jail (or worse), the DA should throw the book at this guy.  How is this guy still walking around threatening the public with his badge and a firearm?  And the department is censoring public feedback?  The sheriff should be cleaning house, or voted out of office.

  7. Up until the shots were fired the officers were 100% correct. People think they can just do what they want without consequences. I hope they charge the mother with aggravated child abuse and take her kids. The son should be charged but not to anything substantial. The officer that fired should be charged with aggravated assault.

  9. I neither like nor dislike police officers.  I don't like to group people.  I prefer to judge people on an individual basis.  That said, this man does not deserve the honor of wearing a badge, and he forgets that he is a servant of the people, not a dictator.  I don't know I would file any charges against the officer, but I would make him apologize to the parent then fire him immediately.  I would also take it a step further and bar him from any form of public service as he does not have the right temperament or people skills.  Based on what I saw, he is ideally suited for digging ditches.  Unfortunately, he appears much too out of shape for that.

  12. And the other shoe drops...  Which is why I like to see raw video footage not news coverage...   http://www.taosnews.com/news/article_401433ae-4d74-11e3-9e84-001a4bcf887a.html   It seems we don't have the entire story...  The mother was issued the ticket for speeding, and it was only after the officer insisted she PAY THE FINE IN CASH on the side of the road, or go before a local Judge did she drive away.  So she didn't drive away without signing the ticket, only without paying the fine on the spot.   Now, it seems the officers request is legal under NM state law...  but I can see how a TN single mom with kids in the car might think something is amiss and become scared enough to flee when you have an officer on the side of the road trying to shake you down for cash over a 16 mph speeding ticket.  I didn't know this little fact about NM law before today, if I was confronted with an officer demanding cash or he would arrest me, I too would be concerned I was dealing with a dirty cop and my life may very well be in danger.   I think this little fact shed a whole new light on her fleeing to a public location where she surrendered, and also in my mind clears the 14 year old...

  13. Doesn't matter if the vehicle just had the mom, or was loaded with nuns...  The vehicle didn't pose a threat of death or serious bodily injury to the officers as it was driving away from them, not towards them.   Would be nice to see the complete unedited footage, instead of the clips the news played.   I don't know about charging the 14 year old...  Your mom screams for help, and you come to her aid no questions asked...  at 14 that instinct is probably natural and not criminal.   The mom looks guilty without a doubt... I would like to see the raw video, but she does seem a few sheets shy of a book in the clips the news played.   And the officer who shot at a car driving off, needs to be in jail for felony stupid.

  15. Finally managed to get away to my lease this afternoon. I wasn't on stand for more than 20 minutes before a little forky showed up & offered me a 'my freezer's empty' shot, which I promptly missed. I reloaded & this 6 ran into & stopped in the exact same spot, so I figured I was getting a mulligan...... He was slightly quartering towards me & only went 40 yards across an open field before piling up in a hedgerow.

  18. All that for going 16 mph above the speed limit.  Sheesh.    I would agree that the officers were in the right initially.  However, considering kids were in the vehicle, I think the line was crossed when they started busting windows.  If I was making the decisions, I pretty much agree with Dolomite.  I would probably require the primary officer to undergo further training, charge the mother (although I would not take her kids if she has a clean record), and charge the son.  The officer that was shooting?  Well...I would throw the book at him.  He has clearly proven he cannot use the proper judgement that is required to be a good officer.

  22. Even at $40 considering the money or at least part if it went to the family is still say well spent. Now had that terrible accident not occurred and these were just Noveske branded Pmags for the sake of being cool, I'd say $25 - $30 would be about right. Once again, in the time frame we were seeing people buying standard $12 pmags for $50+ I'm going again with "good buy" and that's my final answer Regis. :D

  23.   Even after becoming convinced that he was not legally responsible for committing a crime in the Martin case (i.e. "not guilty") my thoughts about him have been something along the lines of, "Just because he may not have been guilty of a crime in that instance doesn't mean he isn't still an asshat."  I have never thought he was the kind of person I'd want to hang around with and certainly not the guy I want being seen as representative of the gun owning/carrying community, in general.

  24. Put it this way, the model 38 was never designed to be a shooter. A few came with Aluminum cylinders which is bad, most will have a carbon steel cylinder which is a lot stronger. With that said, today's +p 38 ammo is about what was a standard load 30-40 years ago. I don't think you will ever be able to shoot enough +p through it to wear it out.

  31.   I think you mean citizens as the police are supposed to be civilian as well.  Militarized police forces are part of the problem today and will run roughshod over rights and liberty.  Any country that has a militarized police is rife with corruption and serious human rights abuses.  I've seen it first hand in Russia, where people are as afraid of the police as they are the criminals.

  32.   Poor has nothing to do with it.  I as well as many others grew up dirt poor, and we turned out just fine.  You had it right initially when you mentioned parental involvement,  These kid's parents are more than likely worthless pieces of excrement who really don't care about anything but themselves.  Granted, there are some exceptions, but I believe they are minority.  While I do not have any kids, I believe that it takes a lot more than just providing food, shelter, and clothing to properly raise a child.

That's why they call the game "Knockout" and not "Hit a hillbilly then get your ass stomped." These are the worst examples of humans, they will reap what they sow.

  35. An AK47 will make an excellent compliment to the 223 AR. Good CQB choice especially in brush or around barriers etc. 30 caliber a plus. The Ak74 has been mostly popular due to cheap surplus ammo. And a lot of it has been corrosive ammo.

  38. It's a moot point now... I was out and about today, and saw this Ruger American in .308. It looked lonely sitting in there with no owner, and well, she followed me home along with a 6-14x scope. I tried to shake her, told myself that I needed to keep saving for an AR, but I could not help it. I was powerless to resist. Now she is propped against my newest $0.00 wood recycling project for my Lee Classic Turret

  39. I have a shotgun kinda like that.  Its hard to get specifics on them.    What I learned and which may or may not be true of yours but is an in-general type info spew: - the barrel is wire wound, and dangerous to fire without a qualified inspection.  Unfortunate, as these guns are not valuable but often beautiful, so they would be great to shoot if not for the dangerous construction....   this is why most are wall hangers.  - most were made in england, a few in other euro countries, and shipped here - take the barrel off and you may find additional markings on the barrel underside.  It should just be 3 or 4 push pins to remove, very simple.   - it is probably from the "neighborhood" of say 1850.  However I think yours is a later model, closer to 1900 than 1850, since it looks to break open rather than muzzle load. - the proof marks from some time periods and some regions can be used to date the work, as the marks were official but changed now and then. - it may have some shallow markings on the barrel, import marks, heavily worn text, or the like.  Look again? - if you do not have many markings, you may never know much more than this....   The rifle, I can't see enough of the key parts to say much.

  41. The 640 is going to have more felt recoil than the Glock, but is a great CCW weapon assuming you're okay with trigger pull.   As to recoil, I wouldn't be scared of it, but I also wouldn't start with a full house .38spl +P load.  A reduced recoil .38spl might really be the right place to start for you with that pistol.  The steel frame is going to soak up a fair bit of the recoil, so if you decide you can handle that okay, then you can step up to one of the hotter .38spl or .38spl +P variants and see how that treats you.   Hogue makes a nice set of grips for that pistol that ought to tame it some, too.   So long as you can manage the heavier double action trigger with your arthritis, I don't know that you'll find a better choice in a real defensive caliber.

  42. I've had almost every variety of cornbread known and in my opinion, just good old buttermilk cornbread cooked in my cast iron skillet is unbeatable. Every now and then I like to throw in a little jalapeno pepper and shredded cheddar.   Whisk together the following and set aside;   1/4 cup cooking oil 1 egg 1 1/3 cups Buttermilk   heat oven to 450   Take your cast iron skillet and put a little oil in it and stick it in the oven. Keep an eye on the skillet and when the oil gets hot, mix;   2 cups of Cornmeal in to the above ingredients. Mix well.   Just as soon as the oil in the skillet starts to smoke, remove it from the oven using a good set of pot holders, and pour/spoon your cornmeal mix into the skillet. If you got your oil hot enough it will start frying your mix. That's what you want.   Place in oven and bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown on top.   Serve hot with butter.   BE VERY CAREFUL AS YOUR SKILLET WILL BE VERY HOT!!!   DaveS

  45. Someone suggested putting the ammo out several times per day. Well, all good in theory until you realize the people who have to stock the ammo have other things to do besides worry about ammo. The managers are always delegating other jobs and tasks that the employees need to be doing. After all, Wal-mart isn't just an ammo and gun store, they sell other things as well and can't spend all their time putting out ammo just to satisfy those who can't get any.   Just my opinion. If youwant to really make it hard on the resellers, try to photo them and post it online, let everyone know who these jokers are and tell them to not buy from them.
