BTW, Dolomite, I do strongly agree that the young parent-raised/enabled monster should be the one actually accountable. But as it is playing out, the only person paying for the crime is the victims, especially the man who lost his family.5 points

If anybody near me needs to borrow one, I have an aluminum upper receiver block that pins in just like the nylon ones shown previously in the thread. It rents at very low rates in the Franklin, TN area for beer, brass, or good company. If you're now asking yourself whether or not you're good company, I prefer Guiness in the 16 oz. pub cans and shoot 9mm, 5.56, and .30-06.2 points

Being from NJ most of you have no idea of crime.TN is heaven compared to cities in NJ. One example is Camden, NJ which is/was the crime capitol of the country. I still believe NJ's biggest problem is gun control. Only the criminals have guns, not the law abiding citizen, that sucks.2 points

Who cares about his rehabilitation? He killed four people in a premeditated attack. He should be doing life in prison. The lack of punishment will only embolden this POS to do this again since there aren't consequences to his actions. That is evident by the crap he pulled prior to killing four human beings and wasnt punished for. This judge was clearly paid off. There is no other excuse for why he got away with this punishment free.2 points

If you're also looking online, check into the "refurbished" cameras from Adorama.com. I bought a refurb Nikon from there last year that was as good as new...and much cheaper.2 points

Mine is waiting for me at home right now. Full report tonight. Edit: just awesome! I got some polymer flip up sights that are super light weight. Perfect for a light weight build I'm planning out in my mind. I also got an extended latch for a charging handle, once again perfect as I just don't like the mil spec ones after spoiling myself with a BCM. I already have a charging handle to instal it on also so that's one more part for a build. I got an AR receiver "plate". Not sure of the proper term but its the plate that holds the spring that holds the rearward takedown pin. The one I got has ambidextrous slots for a sling on either side of the receiver. Possibly best of all (for me anyway) is the lower receiver vise block. I've been putting off buying one for awhile, looks like that strategy paid off in the end. ;) A sincere and heartfelt thank you to my secret Santa. The gifts you gave are absolutely perfect and I will surely use and enjoy them. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Additional thanks go out to all those that make TGO what it is. Between the staff and the members, this IMO is THE best place to be on the web, period.2 points

Well my definition of a NeoCon is a conservative that promotes "democracy" and "national interest" by means of military force. You often see similar views on domestic issues as well, support for law enforcement violations of the 5th Amendment, support for the War on Drugs, support for a big standing Army, and support for using the government to interfere in American's daily lives to 'protect' us... While wanting to limit the Federal government, they believe the state governments have unlimited authority to regulate everything. Mark Levin has in the past supported ideas that I would describe as NeoCon in nature... Hannity on a regular basis supports the NeoCon ideology... And the Weekly Standard is run by a bunch of NeoCons (who are big supporters of Mark Levins book), so anything they put their stamp of approval on concerns me a little bit. I'm not saying that some of his proposed Amendments aren't good ideas... Or if we could manage to get some ratified it would be a bad thing... I'm saying that most of his amendments don't cover the real tyranny we see in our day to day lives... It doesn't reduce the size of the Federal government to historic levels... It doesn't re-establish many of the protections of rights we've lost over the years... He's calling for a cap of federal spending at 17.5%, which is high, very high, the average since WWII has been 18%... Historically our government lived off of 2-3% of GDP before FDR... By leaving the spending so high, you doom Americans into paying 30-35% of their income in taxes forever.... The cap should be much lower. The amendments don't require a balanced budget or prevent deficit spending... which are the real problems that will soon ruin us as a nation.... You notice it doesn't deal with monetary policy at all either, like getting rid of the Federal Reserve? Gun Sane, if you knew me, you'd know I'm not watching MSNBC ever ;) FoxNEWS is a little too progressive for my tastes ;) BTW, none of this really addresses the fact that once a Article 5 convention is called by the states, we loose complete control over what happens... We can go in with these 11 Amendments and come out with 20 new ones that have nothing to do with these... And in the Hannity interview he (Mark Levin) glosses over that part... He asserts that we have nothing to fear because the state legislatures have to approve the Amendments... but that isn't the case... in the case of a convention Congress can hold ratifying convention(s) that bypass the legislatures entirely. This isn't the way to fix the issues in Washington... This road is a much quicker way to slide into tyranny.2 points

Memphis isn't the only problem. Take our once little quite town of Clarksville. Crime in general, gang crime and crime from some of our military (those here from Chicago, Memphis, New York and LA for example), has increased here ten fold since 1980 when I got here. Parts of Clarksville are getting very bad! And so are many cities in the state. Dave2 points

Let's remember none of us were there during the trial to hear all the testimony, and I for one am not going to take this sensationalist story that tries to pass as real journalism in Huff Post as the final word. HP is clearly trying to fan the flames of race and class in this article. If it were up to me I'd put the parents in jail. They deserve it more than the son. I'm sure there was a long pattern of this type of behavior by the kid, and mom & dad did nothing. That was clearly the attorney's strategy- throw mom and dad under the bus in order to save the kid client. The victims' blood is on their hands just as much, and all we can hope is that they have to wake up every day with the realization that they completely failed in their most important task in life, and that they are ruined financially for it. As for the defendant, while I think he deserved some jail time I still think he should get another chance at life. This was not premeditated, it was horribly negligent. He's still a boy really. But he shouldn't be allowed to go to a posh rehab facility. That was a shitty call by the judge. He can get treatment or whatever he needs in a youth detention center. Really I'm more mad at the adults here--the parents and the judge--than the kid.1 point

I think we have to be careful to allow some variation in what are acceptable parameters for being on "our side". There are many things that reasonable, rational people can disagree on. On the other hand, it's possible to go too far the other way and many of those in power, including many of those "my side" votes for do nothing but wear the right clothes but in their hearts, they are not clear in their goals. I would estimate that 80% of the regulars on Fox News are not sincere or deep in their beliefs, O'Reilly seems to be the worst for this, unprincipled and as knee-jerk as any liberal. When I first came over in 2000, he was nowhere near as bad but now whenever I see him on, it is clear he has no aim other than to sell books, boost ratings and be a "personality". Because of this and because the statists are running at full steam, the potential for disaster is immense. We are in no way close to being ready for this fight in this arena. If the statists are at 110%, we're running at about 10. Mitch McConnell, the leader of what is purportedly "Our side" in the senate sold us out for a dam in his home state. Talk to the people you know, conservatives, see how many would be happy with universal background checks and restrictions on magazines, semi-auto rifles and other "evil gun" features. Already the ATF bends the second out of recognition with their "regulations", effective laws which should have been written by the legislature (or not at all). Imagine the 2nd rewritten with that built-in. The first isn't safe either. The 4th will be disemboweled with a rusty spoon in the name of anti-terrorism. The 5th? Probably follow England's lead there. The 9th, already the red-headed stepchild, gone. Forget the USA, it won't be United States anymore, it will be the Central North American Republic. Will all this happen? Probably not. But in the name of "Compromise", plenty will. It just depends if you want it quick or slow and drawn-out.1 point

As for prep, it depends a lot on the hog and the conditions you took it under. If it's an old boar or if his dander was up, the meat will be suitable for little more than sausage. Younger pigs and females you can treat just like regular pork. It'll be leaner than you are used to, but the flavor is amazing. I'll usually save the hams and the ribs... the rest gets turned into sausage. Good luck with your hunt.1 point

I got it under the same deal so I don't feel as if I got a lemon or anything. It is pretty decent for the price. I like using a red dot for reflexive firing and figured this on 1x could fill that role. I'm sure on an overcast day it would be just fine for quick acquisition but just doesn't cut the mustard for running and gunning. It is a fine reticle though, and anything being shot at distance using magnification this scope is just as good or better than many similar ones with a higher price tag.1 point

The FBI propaganda machine? Yeah right. We quote the FBI statistics to support our gun rights but now that we don't agree with those statistics then the FBI must be full of it. http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012/tables/5tabledatadecpdf Honestly, I can see Tennessee being a violent state. I know in my little town crime is rampant, violent and non violent. In my county it is amazing at how many people are victims. Most don't even call LE anymore because our sheriff has publically, in a newspaper, said not to call unless it is a life threatening emergency. He even said if you have been burglarized come in the next business day to file a report and don't call them. I have several friends who have been robbed and called 911 but the officers never showed. When they called back to find out where the officers were they were told the officers would not be coming because the robber is likely already gone so there is nothing the officers could do. Here is my little towns response to our sheriff's inability to provide even the most basic services. http://www.wate.com/story/23975463/blaine-residents-packing-heat-to-protect-themselves-from-crime Our sheriff stepped down after three inmates escaped on a Friday and his officers did not notice the missing inmates until Sunday. The TBI and FBI came in and took over operations for a few weeks. He hadn't been in his office for over a year prior to this. He was impossible to find or to get a hold of and has been talking through third parties to the authorities wanting to question him because he, just like 7 of the last 8 sheriffs, has been suspected of being involved in criminal activity. We had a previous sheriff that ran and insurance fraud scam. His officers would file false reports then receive checks from the insurance for vehicles that were not damaged at all. They were caught but all charges were dropped after rumors surfaced a lot more people in our local government were involved. In our county we have criminals who have killed people get sentenced to 48 hours in jail. We have people who plead guilty to aggravated robbery or aggravated assault and get a sentence of time served after being in jail for a few weeks. If they don't hurt anyone during their crimes they often get their charges dismissed.1 point

The liberals want socialism and Obama wants to kill capitalism and they will never give up nor compromise on that fact. They know they have the media in their pocket and the poor, the unions and a the unemployed middle class, and all the "uninformed" voters, on a string called "entitlements" or a bleeding heart mentality which is their voting block. This is their plan. They can get anything and everything they want one compromise at a time. This is how the political yardstick has moved so far to the left already, by compromise through the years by weak conservatives that have no stomach for a fight and only their best interest at heart. it's always the right that's forced to give in and made to look like they are the uncompromising party by the liberal owned media, even though it's the other way around. They know the bulk of conservatives will fold when slammed by the media who sees to it that the right gets blamed for everything that goes wrong. The right will end up being blamed for Obamacare even though not one republican voted for it. Every time the right compromises, the entire yardstick moves a little more left. Give them 1/4 of what they want 4 times and they've got it all. Like it or not, everything that's happened the past 5 years has taken us a great deal closer to their goal. Would a hard line drawn in the sand take them down? Maybe so 15 years ago. But not anymore. Our "Conservative" reps, using the term loosely, don't have the nads for it and many are standing smack dab where middle of the road liberals stood 15 years ago. Freedom as we know it is in very dire trouble....right where Obama wants it to be.1 point

What I do after the single stage I guess remains to be seen but I think I will go with the single stage RCBS kit and if needed build on it from there. In the kit are there any suggestions on items that should be bought separately??1 point

Yes, if you are planning to make match grade long range ammo, go for a quality single stage. My advice was geared toward a typical new reloader for a first press choice, not a competition type setup.1 point

Except that a turret has more slop. You know I like the Lee Turret. But, I have two single stage presses too. My turret will never see any Grendel ammo.1 point

I don't get it, I have nothing against Glocks, I own two and they rotate as my EDC guns. I trust my life to them. That said as far as shooters I don't care for the Glocks at all. I get much more pleasure shooting 1911s, revolvers, and vintage .22 pistols.1 point

Oh and yesterday I took my little boy deer hunting for the first time. He's been saying "me go huntin with you" every time I put camo on for the last 2 months. I've had a cold and didn't figure I really need to be out in it. So as I was getting ready to leave I decided we'd all go and just sit in the truck overlooking a field and have a family hunting trip. Me, my wife, my son, and my daughter all got camo on and headed out. On the way there he decided he'd up his participation level and said "you let me shoot deer" I replied "dude you're 2, it ain't gonna happen. You're gonna have to wait a while on that" lol. We all sat and watched the field and ate pretzels and candy and looked through binoculars backwards. Nothing came out but we had fun. Right after we left the farm as we were coming through Gordonsville they were all lined up about to start their Christmas parade. So we figured we'd just ease into town and get out and watch that too. He saw Santa and had a even better day. So now my 2yo and 1yo have been hunting I guess.1 point
