  1. When the ninth circuit is ruling in favor of the second amendment, that's probably a good sign to start looking for the seven horsemen of the apocalypse on the horizon.

  2. OK, I know that this isn't a firearm. However, I noted a few others posting items they're proud of. This is one of mine! While in Iraq in '06 our Motor Pool OIC brought his knife-making equipment (he forges and makes his own). He taught some of how to make knives when we had some free time. My blade has been cut (with a plasma torch) from a piece of HMWWV armor (off an old vehicle). smoothed and shaped by me. The handle is a piece of wood from a door frame out of one of Saddam's palaces (Radwaniah Palace, southern end of BIAP). Start to finish:

  3. My Magic Hat While in California I needed to go to the emergency room. Not wanting to sit there for 4 hours, I put on my Magic Green Hat. When I went into the E.R., I noticed that 3/4 of the people got up and left. I guess they decided that they weren't that sick after all. Cut at least 3 hours off my waiting time. Here's the hat: Below. It also works at Dept. of Motor Vehicles. It saved me 5 hours. At the Laundromat, three minutes after entering, I had my choice of any machine, most still running. If you live in Texas, it might cut your wait time at the grocery store. But, don't try it at McDonald's. The whole crew ran out the back door and I never did get my order!

  6. I think it's very interesting that the only branch of the 3 branches of gubmt that is acting like the adults in the room is the judicial branch... My guess is that things are so polarized that the federal judiciary knows everyone on both sides of every issue is watchin... They seem to be commin down on a strict interpretation when it comes to the Bill of Rights issues...   By the way, hooray for the Second Amendment win.... We are livin in interestin times...   leroy

  8. That wasn't justice, that was simply consequence.   Justice would have seen that creep hung and buried within a year of the guilty verdict.  I personally lean toward (in cases where there can be no doubt) marching them out of the courtroom to the back of the courthouse.

  9. So long as they add another amendment requiring a police officer to be on duty at every playground. If they strip law abiding citizens of the right to defend themselves and their own then it should be their responsibility. If they aren't willing to fill in the gap then they have no business creating one in the first place.

  13. This is probably a good place to start in understanding why the Ninth held the way it did: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2014/02/13/more-on-the-reasoning-of-the-ninth-circuits-right-to-carry-a-gun-opinion/ Volokh is excellent at explaining Constitutional law. It is also interesting that even in the 1800s, courts routinely held that laws prohibiting concealed carry we're constitutional. So, this isn't a new issue. What makes the California laws (like the one in this case) really problematic is that they effectively prohibit ALL carry, not use concealed carry or open carry. Also, just an interesting thought I read in another law review article some time ago. Many of the firearms restrictions that many people (including many here) accept without argument would be unconstitutional if held to the same standard as other constitutional rights. For example, most people believe felons (and particularly violent felons) should not have 2nd Amendment rights. But felons of all kinds are still protected under the Bill of Rights for other things (such as the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th Amendments). It would be unthinkable that a felon would have to give up the right (at least in total) to remain silent, to a speedy trial, or to avoid cruel and unusual punishment, but lose all rights under another Amendment (such as the 2nd). Again, just food for thought.

  25. I have no trouble believing that this is true...the government is scared and they have reason to be.   The federal government...all of it... is almost completely corrupt (with a few...very few exceptions) and they are scared that the may finally be found out to be the worthless, corrupt, morally (and financially) bankrupt people they are. Even though this administration tries desperately to put a happy face on everything (even to the point of claiming that millions losing their jobs because of Obamacare is a "good thing") they are not stupid...they know that the economy is going down the sewer and they know that when it collapses (and I think we may well be too late to stop it) people...ALL PEOPLE are going to be mad as hell and looking for answers and looking for someone to blame and to extract justice from...and the government is scared because they know they'll likely be the ones people are looking to blame. The government's only hope is to try and blame someone else...the Jews ew...the "rich"...the "whites"...the "old"...whoever proves to be the easiest to blame or all the above.   We are heading for a world of hurt that will make the great depression look like a minor market correction.

  29. 7.5" at Sítio BrasilNuts. Just looking out my window as I drove through OR this morning the accumulations seemed to vary quite a bit in areas. I was out at about 0530 and I saw several people out shoveling their driveways and the sidewalks in front of their houses. I surmised that they must be Yankees. :)

  30. I appreciate the kind words!  I'll do a write-up on it for my grandkids.    My initials are stamped on one side of the knife and "OIF" on the other.    Wanted something to pass on.  I have my father's Bronze Star from Vietnam, my grandfather's fire chief's badge, my opa's (German grandfather) Iron Crosses from both World Wars.  Adding my own contribution to the mix!

  38. I have a Scar 17 and I have a LMT MWS as well as a DSA,and PTR so Im not in the market for anymore 7.62's currently. I think I could have worded my post a little better as I think you may have misunderstood me. I was trying to say I hear "Its too expensive for what it is a lot" when talking about the 17, and I think its hard to say its too expensive when there is no other platform like it that I know of currently. Just take 4 key features of the 17 sub moa accuracy, weight, reliability, balance the Scar is the only rifle I know of that can meet all 4 in 7.62x51 and to me personally thats worth the money. Ruger is a little over a half pound heavier than the 17 as well, though Im sure its a fine rifle(Huge fan of the 556c) the 7.62 doesnt peak my interest. Only contender I can see for the 17 in the not so distant future(2015) is the Desert Tech MDR which I will be keeping a close eye on.

  45. I suspect that GKar is on point.   The thing I find curious is that Coley is a Prime co-sponsor of the bill, and that is troubling in and of itself.  I have personally watched as he stabbed Campus Carry in the back when Andy Holt ran the bill, it was one of my first up close and personal views of deceit in government.  they called Holt on his cell, when the stepped outside to take the call, Coley sent his bill to Summer Study, and never even told him they had killed it, let him sit the rest of the committee hearing to find out that they had shanked him.
