  1. I just got of the phone with Dave, the Tanto Bladed knifes will be stone washed, blades and have stonewashed, pocket clips as well, they will cost the same as the two tone regular bladed knives but they are different so no T is needed, The 3 bullet hole designs will be on the back of the blades on both knives, prototypes of both should be done in the next few weeks,

  3. I got up early this morning in hopes of catching another glimpse of the big one that I caught a few glimpses of yesterday evening. I wanted to get in the blind at least an hour before daylight to ensure everything was completely settled back down by daylight. The guy that hunts the farm next door saw that I had put a food plot in so he decided that he'd put a stand up about 30 yards away to try to catch deer on their way in (yea that's a b!tch move) but anyways, they decided to drop someone off with the 4 wheeler at that stand as the sky was starting to light up, so much for letting everything settle down huh... I was having a very hard time staying awake listening to the rain falling on the roof of the blind but a doe running at full speed caught my eye. She came straight over the fence from his direction headed straight towards me then made a hard left and into the trees she went. I wasn't sure if she'd busted him and was just getting out of Dodge or if a buck was after her but just in case I flipped up the plexiglass window and before I got it latched I saw another doe coming in at a fast trot//sprint with what looked like antlers growing from her back. The I realized there was a buck with his head up her rear end so I stuck the rifle out the window and had plans of grunting to stop him long enough for a shot but that wasn't happening. I tried grunting, whistling and finally I tried screaming all of which he paid zero attention to, I mean he never broke stride. I wasn't sure if he was the big one (he wasn't :( or not but I knew he was big enough that I was going to shoot him anyways so I took a quick shot as he ran by me. He ended up running about 30 yds down the hill into the woods before he fell dead. Here he is,

  8. the we are "better than them" around here attitude cracks me up.   I deal with "hipsters" every day at work,  99% of the ones I deal with are truly nice people to me, work and are productive, and aren't afraid of buying good product.   So they wear skinny jeans, flannel or other nice looking clothes?  Their hair is generally well kept and some have beards.   Does everyone here look down on everyone else?   It is no wonder the "gun crowd" is generally looked at as nut bags.

  16.   The Colt feels cheap too.   If you already have an AR buy a dedicated upper, they can be had for around the same price as the Colt and you end up with a much nicer setup.   Anotehr big problem is most parts will not interchange so you may not be able to swap parts to build it the way you want it.

  23. I don't post much on here, I do read and learn a lot though. That being said I thought it might be nice to let some you guys see what you talked me through doing without even knowing. This is my first build, my first AR pistol, and my first time having to determine what is legal and what is not. This is an Anderson Arms stripped lower ($71 otd at lgs), PSA LPK and M16 BCG ($158 total), a Hardened Arms 10.5" Upper in 5.56 w/ Free float rail ($240 shipped form Gunbroker), and a cheap set of flip up irons that my local shop had on the shelf for 20 bucks, They are metal and hold very well so I like them. Then finally the SBX brace from Rockwell arms($121 shipped). That is $610 total which I think is pretty good. This is my new "truck/get me home, can be carried in my back pack range toy, and I think I am in love.........

  37. ^^  True.  It wouldn't matter who developed this area.  It has a history of failure and disinterest.  It should most likely have mutliple anchors... good ones at that.   Hopefully, the dwelling portion will be innovative and forward reaching... raising the profile of the area.  If not, all bets are off.  As a West-Meade-r, I would hate to see the blight of a failed large-scale devepment in Bellevue.

  38. My son has one. It is problem free and great fun to shoot. The barrel is actually a thin liner covered by a shroud that looks like an m4 barrel. The forward assist is for decoration only. They are sort of cheap made. If i had it to do over, I'd likely get a Smith and Wesson 15-22.

  41. Yes, the Colt 1991 will have a plastic mainspring housing. I've never heard of any problems with them, but do admit I don't care for the idea of it. However, I prefer an arched mainspring housing so I would have changed it out anyway. No big deal to me. Runco, I seems to me that you've just about let these guys talk you out of buying the Colt. I happen to like Colts and own quite a few. I have Pre-70 Series, 70 Series and 80 series Colt 1911s. never had a problem with any of them. Frankly, I keep wondering where all these troublesome Colts come from. I've never had one. Being the 1911 lover that I am, I also own several other brands as well. So If you've decided against the Colt, I'll make a couple of recommendations. If you're just looking for an entry level gun to get your feet wet, I've heard nothing but good things about Rock Island Armory. Don't own one myself, but I have seen and shot them. They seem to be quite good for the money. I'm a big fan of Springfield Armory pistols and own four of them. They have several models in the under $700 price range that would serve you well. I might add that they have the best customer service in the business. Right now I really think the best bang for your buck is the Remington 1911R1. I bought one when they first came out and have been excedingly happy with it. Admitedly the finish is a bit on the plain side, but they're great shootwers and have the absolute best out-of-the-box trigger I've ever felt on a factory gun. Yeah, I know. I'm still fairly new around here and some of you might be thinking I'm just full of it. I claim no expertise on any guns whatsoever. However, I am a big fan of the 1911 and feel that I can at least offer an informed opinion. btw: This is an old picture. I've added a few more since then. ;)

  43. I'm not your typical student, but I do still attend classes taught by other instructors regularly so I might have some insight that will help.    Get prepared for class a few days in advance. No one wants to be looking for their mag pouches the morning of the class. Get all your stuff together so that is one less thing to worry with. Pack all your gear and make a checklist. And use the checklist. You don't want to be "the guy who gets to class with no spare mags because they are on the bedside table where he left them" guy.    WEAR A BELT. That should go without saying but I've actually had a person show up to a pistol class where we were they knew we'd be drawing from a holster show up with no belt......and wondered why their paddle holster kept coming out of their pants with the gun when they drew it....    Take a spare gun and more ammo than you think you'll need. This is especially so if you are running an "oddball" caliber that no one else in class is likely to have. If you are running 357sig, 45gap, 9mm Makarov, 9x21, 9x23 or 5.7x28 no one else is gonna have ammo for your gun so bring extra.    Take a notepad and TAKE NOTES. Many times there will be so much info you simply will not remember it all later and most classes do not hand out workbooks or an outline or "take notes for you". So a pen and notepad is a wise investment.    Make sure you have weather appropriate clothing. Being "environmentally miserable " is not a good learning environment. And don't wear flip flops...again, should go without saying but you'd be surprised.    If the class is going to be physical ( a lot of getting up and down or running) and that is not something you are used to then it is a good idea to do something to get in batter shape before the week of class. At a minimum doing some stretching and walking a mile or two each day several months in advance will help. The less strain it is to do the drills the better experience it will be. But there are very few classes you will ever attend that you need to be in pro athlete condition. If you have questions about a class and whether you are in good enough shape to participate you should always ask the instructor in advance.    Bring plenty of H2O...and DRINK IT. Staying hydrated is important. But most people do not drink enough to stay optimally hydrated. In fact, most people walk around in a state of near dehydration in everyday life. You do not want to be "the guy who passed out from dehydration" in class. If you wait until you are thirsty then you are not drinking enough.    Reading.....if you have 20 years I can recommend some books......Just kidding. If the instructor has written a book it is a good idea to be familiar with it. If nothing else I would recommend Principles of Personal Defense by Jeff Cooper. It is a short book on mindset that everyone should read.    Not knowing anything about your present skill level or what specific class you are looking to take, some general advice would be do dry fire regularly in the weeks leading up to class. Work on drawstroke, mag changes, malfunction clearance.....all the stuff you should be working on regularly in dry fire...   And most importantly keep an open mind. Not everyone teaches everything the exact same way. There is nothing wrong with that but a good instructor should be able to tell you EXACTLY WHY they teach something a particular way if it is substantially different than what others do. If they say "just because" then that should be a huge red flag.    How to pick an instructor? Reputation goes a long way. Read reviews of the instructor and ideally talk to people who have been to their classes. Keep in mind also that not all personalities mesh. I have talked to people that were put off by a particular instructor who I happen to think is excellent ...if a bit gruff. Those people and that particular instructor were just not a good mix of personalities. But on a personal level I am more concerned with the knowledge an instructor can help me discover than whether the instructor will pacify my "inner child" or make me "feel better  about myself."     Someone can be a "nice guy" and not be a knowledgeable instructor and someone can be a "been there done that" guy and be a bad communicator and poor teacher. There is more to teaching than being able to do something and more to running an adult learning environment than showing up and letting the students bask in your past glory (unless that is specifically why people come to your class) .... so do your homework in advance and look for an instructor that is good at teaching what YOU are looking to learn. A navy SEAL may be a bitchin' cool guy but odds are he does not do much concealed carry pistol work. And a guy who spends 99% of his time teaching NRA basic classes is not going to be the first guy on the list to teach combatives and close quarters shooting.

  44. This is my favorite gun, at least for now. I really like how it shoots, handles and conceals. And with the 7.62x39 caliber it is more than adequate for self defense, even out of its 7.5" barrel. This setup is not so much just for the bedroom but this is something that gets used for our bedroom, our home as well as in our vehicle when we are away from home. In the past I have also used various shotguns, various rifles and definitely some pistols but I have settled into this being the "forever" gun used in the home and away from the home. And because it is a "handgun" I can legally carry it anywhere I can legally carry my sidearm. It will not replace my sidearm but will be used in conjunction with my sidearm when I can. At home it is not stored in the bag but laying on top of the bag. My original bag was your typical small tactical bag that would look out of place in most places I would be so the search was on for a less obvious bag. Thae tactical bag also precluded the use of 30 round magazines. So after a few suggestions from friends, and urging from my wife, I decided to try the California Pak Ransom 18 inch available from Amazon. It is perfect, with a capital P, for this setup. It allows a 30 round magazine to be in the gun, which the previous bag did not, and has plenty of storage for other items I would need like a knife, flash light, first aid supplies and the few other items I feel are necessary for a bag I am using to get home or deal with immmediate threats. I can easily reach in the bag and either load or unload the weapon without actually removing the gun from the bag. Here is the inconspicuous looking bag closed. And how the inside looks with the gun, and other items, stored inside. And finally, the opened bag with the deployed "handgun" placed on top. And a picture of the gun by itself. The AK itself is nothing more than a standard Mini Draco with a 7.5" barrel. It uses standard AK muzzle devices and other than the forearm everything else is pretty much standard AK. I had originally bought a M92 PAP but decided against it because it was too long for most bags and it was HEAVY, weighing over 9 pounds loaded with a 30 round magazine. By comparison the Mini Draco weighs less than 8.5 pounds with the Sig Brace, folding mechanism and 30 roudn magazine loaded with a mix of 123 grain and 154 grain bullets. I drilled and tapped the rear of the receiver (yes it is extremely hard) for the 10-32 screws to attach the Stormwerkz hinge, the best IMHO and definitely better than ACE hinges. On the other side of the hinge I attached a pig nose adapter to allow me to use the extended buffer tube with an original Sig Brace. I swapped in a Hogue over molded pistol grip and added a 550 cord loop for a rear sling point. I replaced the standard 500 meter rear sight with an RPK style rear sight that has adjustments for wind. I did this so I can center the front sight because I believe that the front sight ears also help to get on target faster so when the front sight post is not in the center of the sings I think it can affect sight picture under stress. I replaced the factory single point trigger with a double hook trigger. The second hook was modified to turn it into an over travel stop. This significantly reduces the over travel of the factory AK trigger which is probably the single worst part of the AK platform. I also replaced the factory twisted hammer/trigger spring with a Damage Industries spring not because the factory unit is bad but because I wanted something of known quality. I replaced the factory birdcage flash hider with standard slant brake that I shortened. It looks like a thread protector but because it still has the internal bump in place it works like an unmodified slant brake but is 1/2" shorter. The forearm is from a Saiga rifle, not a shotgun, that I chopped down to fit the Mini Draco. This one is the third version. I tried it with a rail and Magpul AFG but I felt it just added weight and complexity that it does not need. I took a 10-32 screw and sharpened it, then screwed it into the hole the forearm screw goes into with the point out. I then installed the rear of the forearm then pressed the front of the forearm onto the sharpened screw. This gave me the exact place to drill the clearance hole for the 10-32 sling swivel. After sanding the front I used a Sharpie to match the rest of the forearm.
