I about fell out laughing when they kissed. Mostly laughing wondering who would lose their mind here first. I hope it turns out they are married. At least being gay explains the fashion sense and cleanliness. Pretty good episode. Why didn't Glenn turn on the wipers?4 points

I just wanted to share some photos I took of the Squared Away Customs "KILO" holster that I just received for my Glock 19. I wanted something in a minimalist vein but am not a fan of the Vanguard style of so-called holsters that only cover the trigger guard and nothing else. I wanted something that had strong positive retention, that didn't have a lot of bulk, and preferrably used a belt loop instead of a clip. When a friend on Facebook recommended the SAC Kilo, I gave it a shot and am very pleased with what made its way to my doorstep. They have the KILO for other handgun makes and models so if you're in the market for something similar, give them a look. Mark Lancaster, the proprietor of SAC, is cranking out some really nice gear.3 points

Took a knee in a surprisingly controlled fashion while walking down the hill through the yard on Tuesday to check the mail. Pretty much stayed down on that knee for most of the slide down to the mailbox. When I got there, I noticed a guy from the county doing inspections at a house under construction across from me was watching the whole ordeal with a grin on his face. He asked me if I meant to do that, then promptly busted his own ass on the ice he was walking across. I should have asked him if he meant to do that but kindness found it's way out of my face-hole and I instead asked if he was alright. I surprise myself sometimes.3 points

Tara and the one girl from the second camp the Governor raided the prison with. The one thing to take into account is that this is the highest rated cable television show of all time. That means there is a good chance that a good chunk of folks from all minorities and majorities watch it. Regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or political affiliation. While watching two men kiss is not my cup of tea, it didn't grievously offend me. I am a big boy, I can handle watching things that make me uncomfortable.2 points

I'll be the first to admit that I have an affinity toward 1911's but this statement is about as closed minded as it gets, and is entirely subjective to personal taste. I'd bet you a box of ammo that my M&P 45 will run longer in nastier conditions than just about any mass-produced 1911 on the market currently and cost a whole hell of a lot less.2 points

Just to play Devil's Advocate here, was the sex shown between Lori and Shane, or Glenn and Maggie, or even Andrea standing naked in the moonlight necessary? To a degree I argue that it all was and is necessary to show that life goes on, the birth of Judith is proof that the world continues, the sun rises, the sun sets. Humans will continue to find comfort in one another's company. I am certain the writers did get a kick out the introduction of a gay male character, well two. A gay female, especially an attractive one will rarely be shunned, because we are nothing if not hypocritical when it involves attractive women and fantasy. I remember last summer the enormous outcry that came from the rumor that it would be revealed that Daryl batted for the other team. I am sure the big in you face man on man tongue action was someone's idea of giving a big 'eff you' to criticism. My honest opinion, as long as the story moves along, characters are still developed, zeds still get piked, I am along for the ride.1 point

I'm not sure the lenses will work. The pro-consumer cameras like the D7100 are not full size sensor cameras. Meaning the sensor is smaller than a 35mm frame. Plus the new lenses would have benefits such as motion stability and are designed to work with the digital bodies. I know there is a way to make older lenses work with some of the Canon digital bodies as I have a friend who did this, but I'm not sure what's necessary on Nikons. The biggest difference you'll notice is that it's hard to get a truly wide angle lens like you may be accustomed to on a film camera. Most of the consurmer slr you'll need to multiply the focal length by 1.6 to get the comparable 35mm. I miss that the most when moving to digital. I moved to all Nikon when switching to digital and it's worked out nicely. You'll find with the automatic focus etc. that you'll get to spend more time on composition. I also somewhat miss the depth of field usage that film cameras offered. Digital is a bit harder since most lenses are 3.5 and larger. I do have a 1.4 lens for my Nikon digital, but have actually used it very little. It's a straight 50mm, or 75mm equivalent in 35mm cameras. When you get used to the zooms they really are hard to put down. The kit lenses are not all that good. You might consider buying a body and choose one of their higher grade lenses separately.1 point

Like anything else there are a lot of places that do TiN coating (and other types). Some of the concerns are the temperatures used in the process. The TiN is not inside the barrel, so the wear resistance is for the outside. So if you shoot enough for wear to be an issue on the outside of the barrel; it will still be shot out. Barrel replacement seems like a better deal to me should you ever shoot it enough for wear to be an issue; regardless of what treatment you go with. Cleaning the outside of my barrels is pretty easy, so I don’t think ease of cleaning would justify it. I’m not big on painting guns; but if I wanted to do something to a BCG; I would try Cerakote Micro slick.1 point

I do it in a similar fashion. Since the OP has the bullet seater adjusted properly, I'd suggest this: 1) While holding the seating die body still with one hand, loosen the nut/locking ring that holds it in place. 2) Unscrew the bullet seater a few turns while holding the die body with the other hand. This will insure you won't seat the bullet any further. 3) Put the loaded round into the shellholder and raise it all the way into the die. 4) Screw the die body down until you feel resistance. 5) Lower the round from the die body, screw the die body about a quarter turn further into the press. 6) Tighten the locking ring, and again raise the loaded round fully into the die. 7) Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you've removed the belling from the case mouth. At this point, you have the crimp set properly. 8) Again, raise the loaded round all the way into the die body, and screw the bullet seater back in until you fee lt touch the bullet. Your die should be properly set now. It sounds way more complicated than it really is. Where are you? I would be happy to show you in person if you're close to Lafayette.1 point

This whole "empty chamber carry" thing usually done by someone who is more afraid of the gun they carry than they are of the bad guys. And that is to some degree the fault of all the "you are more likely to be killed by a gun if you have one in the home " crowd. The average person (especially those in urban areas) knows little about guns other than what they see and hear on TV. So people who know LITTLE about guns and even LESS about how fast REAL street crime happens decide they want to get a HCP but they are so afraid that the gun might "go off" they carry with an empty chamber. My question is do they only load 5 rounds in their six shot double action revolver so they have to pull the trigger TWICE to get it to go off? It is NOT logical. Ask any of the empty chamber carriers WHY they do it and the answer is EMOTIONAL....NOT logical. I've been working a full time job in the shooting industry for over 15 years and been teaching HCP classes the same amount of time and working as a travelling instructor, attending and presenting at some of the biggest conferences in the country for the last 8 years....and in ALL that time and travel I have yet to meet a SINGLE SERIOUS GUN CARRIER who carries with an empty chamber. And there is a reason for that. The people who KNOW how fast things can go from "hey man, do you have a cigarette" to "give up yo' wallet Mother F-er" know that empty chamber carry is stupid practice that can get you killed. Now for those of you who say "well that is how we carried them in the army back in the day " ....maybe so...but that doesn't in ANY way mean that was the best practice...it just means the army doctrine for carrying a 1911 was "officially" to carry with an empty chamber for safety. I then ask those guys how much pistol training did you get AFTER you did BASIC? Any ? No? Unless you were in a VERY specialized unit, or were an MP you didn'ty carry loaded pistols in any kind of capacity on a regular basis....so people take that to mean that "if the army did it that way it was right". No...if the army did it, it was for a reason and that reason is RARELY because it is the best practice for FIGHTING. It is simply an effort to keep UNTRAINED personnel from shooting themselves and others accidentally because they cannot grasp the concept of not using the trigger as a place to rest their finger . Once those same people deployed to a combat zone the general practice was to say "to hell with the regulations" and carry it loaded and the safety on when outside the wire.....why? Because racking the slide took too long to bring the weapon into a usable condition. In my "day job" I sell holsters and ammo and all manner of other accessories. I had an old guy (clearly in his 60s or 70s) call about a "defective" Galco Miami Classic shoulder holster for his "old military .45". He said it would not "fit". He said the thumb snap would not snap. I finally figured out WHY and asked him ...Sir, are you trying to holster that pistol with the hammer down or with it cocked? He said "What kind of idiot carries it cocked?" I asked if he had a round in the chamber and he again asked what kind of idiot carries that with a "bullet" in the chamber.....He informed me that he was a korean war vet and that "no one" carries a round in the chamber. I told him that Glaco designs their 1911 holsters to be carried with the hammer cocked, round chambered and safety on. THAT is why his gun would not fit.If the hammer was down the thumbsnap was not long enough to wrap around the hammer.... If he simply cocked the hammer it would fit..... He was dumbfounded because apparently since that is how the army did it (empty chamber) in 1950 that was the pinnacle of small arms TTPs.... Another pet peeve is the folks who simply parrot what other uninformed folks have told them about the Israelis carrying with an empty chamber and that they have some of the best counter terror folks in the world so if they do it then it must be OK.....well their CT units carry with loaded chambers...it is the " 2 year conscripts " that carry empty chamber and that started largely because in 1948 when Isreal became a country of their own for the first time since the late Old Testament times they had a hodge podge of foreign guns all with different features and different safety mechanisms. How to train people to use all this differnt stuff? Have them leave the safeties OFF and leave the chamber unloaded....that will work for EVERY TYPE of pistol no matter who made it or where and it is easier to have people do that than to invest the time into training them in good gunhandling practices...... So for all those carrying empty chamber....ask yourself this question.....how do guns go off? The trigger has to be pulled. So if we habituate ourselves to keeping our finger off the trigger until the muzzle is pointed at the target and we don't carelessly handle the pistol and when we are not handling it we have it in a holster that covers the trigger guard then it is nigh unto impossible for it to go off accidentally......AND it will work RIGHT NOW in an emergency situation when you pull it out without having to take the time to involve the other hand to make it functional. Carry how you want....but empty chamber carry is like emptying your car gas tank when you get where you are going so that the car doesn't catch on fire.....a ridiculous practice born of fear and emotion not education and logic.1 point

I always recommend not having ammo in the safe in case of fire. Just on the off-chance *some* of the guns *might* survive the fire, a large ammo explosion puts an end to your luck. A cheap safe might be in order as an ammo cabinet if you think someone will steal it. One nice way to store 223 is in your mags... at some point more mags is silly and pricy but at least 10 or so is a solid investment and good storage, depending on your paranoia level and budget... Otherwise, what people here said is all great. Cool dry place, moisture control if needed, stack it somewhere sturdy in rugged stackable containers or on rugged shelving. DIY thick shelves can hold hundreds of pounds over a 2-4 foot span, 6 or so shelves from floor to ceiling would hold 10s of thousands of rounds of common ammo. For really long term storage you could paint over the primers to seal them or do a light vacuum seal (dont suck the primers and bullets out the case, but get most of the air) with one of those food storage devices. For that matter quart jars can be lightly air-sealed with one of those devices.1 point
