Went to work at 16 for a local cleaning service at the Millers on Henley St, here in Knoxville. Made Foreman of the crew after three months. Later transfered to another part of the company, cleaning schools, where I was also a Foreman. Did that for several years, into college, until I went off to Basic Training with the U.S. Army Reserves. After getting my MOS as a Construction Surveyor, I went to work for a Civil Engineering firm as a surveyor. Later I went into the office as a Draftsman, then later back out into the field as a Survey Party Chief. Then back into the office where I learned CAD. I've been a Civil Designer for several firms, over a period of 27 years. But 5 years ago I changed fields and moved into Substation and Switchyard Electrical Design. I'm now a Senior Physical Designer. While in the Army Reserve, I worked my way up to Construction Inspector, until I left that unit after Desert Storm. After that I went into a Marksmanship training unit. I shot competitively for the ARCOM and also trained marksmanship to units heading to Bosnia. But the thing I've been most proud of is being married to a wonderful woman for 28 years and raising 3 awesome kids! Sent from my SM-G860P using Tapatalk4 points

Same here. I get along just fine with most of them I run into. But, we know what each other is about. Just the way it is. But I forgot to tell you the kicker to all this. During this time of watching all the outlaw bikers come and go (and noticing that the usual gang bangin thugs were conspicuously absent), I look around in time to see, in full traditional robe, a Buddhist monk walk in. I'm thinking well it's all over with cuz he's probably here to whoop us all! I wish I had gotten to talk to him before he left. Very pleasant and peaceful looking gentleman. I had forgotten there was a Buddhist temple in the Nashville area.3 points

Hardly. I might agree if I was 19 instead of 49, but I'm not that naive. I used to ride as well, and at times we looked pretty rough. But that wasn't what we were about. We might have looked a little rough, but we were a ministry group. I quit "judging a book by its cover" a long time ago. I know the difference between these groups who might look rough and the ones who have earned the 1% patches. I was just trying to pass along a little info that something might be stirring under the surface of the water. I was not indicating that I thought everyone who rides is a thug, that's not the way I think at all.2 points

Paper Filed 7-12-16. Approved 7-3-17 and received by post 7-15-17. So it seems they may have avoided hitting the 1yr mark for wait times - that's very surprising to me.2 points

You guys act like they're not perfectly nice people... And I bet you'd be surprised who a lot of them really are.2 points

I have been getting tattooed for over twenty years, and it wasn't until this year that I sat back and said "Damn, this could be painful if I wasn't a masochist." I attribute it to getting older.1 point
-
Yeah I never went the tattoo route. Got no grief with those who do. Some of my friends are covered up in them. I honestly think the only reason I never got any was the fact that I'm too cheap to do it. I've always thought the good quality jobs can get very expensive and I could buy a new gun instead.1 point

Hello, I am a fifteen year old boy who is trying to learn to sell some guns, and as I viewed this Forumn, it looked very welcoming. My dad inherited some antique guns from my grandfather, and we don't really use them. We hunt a lot but not with the antique guns, so we would rather someone else have them who enjoys them more. And he put me in charge of selling them. I know I am very inexperienced with this subject, so I came here for some help. Thanks1 point
-
Hall, you should know that it is against the law for you as a minor to sell, possess, or own a handgun (that is, a pistol or revolver). If your grandfather has any handguns, you need to get your dad to set up a benefactor account here if you want to sell them on this website. You should also know that the federal government and anti-gun activists monitor firearm websites like this one to find any wrongdoing. As a result, it is absolutely essential that you follow the letter of the law when selling firearms. It would be best if your dad set up an account to sell whatever firearms your family wants to part with. You can of course help him with uploading pictures and so on.1 point

I see Outlaws nearly daily up here in Louisville. I get a bigger kick out of the local 'Steel Order' or such chapter that touts themselves as a nonconventional club, and they wear the Kentucky Rocker. Then they go on to say how they refuse to pay tribute to the governing MC in the area (which I believe are the Outlaws,) and how they will not cower. I haven't heard of anything more than fisticuffs, but I think it is funny. I don't think the fee is that much a year for the rocker, and it comes with a few perks. I had a pair of uncles that were Outlaws. I lived a couple of blocks away from their Clubhouse in Indianapolis. I am far from well versed in the ways of 1% MCs, but I do have a friend that is a 'hangaround.' Most of what I know came from Sons of Anarchy. I am however just a heavily tattooed and pierced guy that rides a highly customized Harley.1 point

That what it was! Sho nuff! Nah, I still haven't 100% vetted this info, but I'm hearing that "gathering" was meant as a show of force due to the other gang trying to make inroads into TN. I knew the others had bought property in TN in the last few years. I always figured there might be a squabble between the two, you know, being as they get along so well. I was told last night the others had had a convention or two somewhere in TN recently, somebody mentioned Cleveland as one of the places. I'm not sure. I still have the old farm boy in me that won't cower to anyone. But at the end of the day I'll be just as pleased if all their festivities remain in the "none of my business" category.1 point

It was my understanding TN was a DMZ for the major 1% MC's. So having a bunch gathered could be interesting to say the least.1 point

WWI is horrifically fascinating, this is a great series: https://www.ahctv.com/tv-shows/apocalypse-wwi/ Gallipoli is highlighted. Can also recommend Jeff Shaara, "To the Last Man" https://g.co/kgs/eBCfnM1 point

If you message me a list of makes and models, I can look them up in the Standard Catalog of Firearms for 2017 and the 2017 Blue Book. Those prices will not be 100% market true, but can help when comparing to Gunbroker.com pricing.1 point
-
The way I do it is to search for the make and model of the gun on sites like gunbroker to see how much they sold for (not starting price) then base my price on that. I have to tell you though, it's not a sellers market right now, many guns are being sold rather low. Getting them appraised will cost, making the final profit lower. Unless you have something a collector may want, it may be a waste of money going that route.1 point

Is it THE “Model 700 BDL”? Or is it something like the VLS, or SPS? The Glock 43 is around $450 new. The Remington could be $500 to $1200 depending on what exact model it is. Is it listed here?.... https://www.remington.com/rifles/bolt-action1 point

I was an electrician for 38 years and an electrical planner for the last 5. Now retired and spend as much of my time fishing for crappie - bass - trout, hunting, riding my 4 wheeler on 2 hunting leases as I possibly can.1 point

Well said. And STACK that $ away for retirement. My wife and I are saving about 17% of our income so that we can retire at a decent age. I'm not going to be chained to a desk at 60+.1 point

The details of my life are quite inconsequential...born and raised in Memphis, a place I still have deep fondness for so back off haters, lol. Went to UT Knoxville, fell in love with the mountains and pretty girls, graduated and stayed. Been a System Admistrator ever since. Garufa was the name of a 45' sailboat I had the pleasure of living on for two weeks in the Bahamas and sailing back to the mainland a long time ago. It was a true adventure and great fun.1 point

Toolmaker by trade. I work in quality now mainly programming CMM’s for First Article inspection of aircraft parts. Ready to retire anytime. Started out in the Navy as a Machinist, got out and worked in some shops, did a few years as a Police Officer, went back to the shops, worked as an Applications Engineer for a Machine Tool Builder, wife wanted to move here, so I took a job as a Toolmaker, and then to where I am now.1 point

Great replies so far! I hope more folks pile onto this and tell us about themselves. I think it's really neat to see not only the diversity of things that TGO members do and have done but also the really interesting paths their lives have taken. If nothing else, perhaps this thread will help anyone who is currently in a rut or just not sure what their life holds in store, to rest assured that not every GOOD thing in life came with a pre-defined plan attached to it. At least, not a human plan. Divine plans are often so far above our comprehension that they look like serendipitous accidents when they finally reveal themselves to us.1 point

I've been a self employed real estate appraiser since 1989. The bulk of my work is residential. It's been so long since I had a boss I'm pretty much unemployable by now.1 point

I grew up in Chattanooga and went to UTC and then TTU to become a mechanical engineer. I spent 7 years doing steering system product design in the auto industry. While I had been looking for another job for a while, my boss called me while I was on vacation to tell me my job was moving to Detroit. That was the final push for me to find something else. I found an unexpectedly brief job designing industrial products (8 months) and then found my current job fixing broken jet engine parts, which I've been doing for 10 years.1 point

If charges were dismissed; it’s like it never happened. (as long as the dismissal gets filed.) If you have issues like dismissal after Court Supervision, expungement or pardon; you could have drama.1 point

"Sources say a member of Joint Task Force 2 killed an Islamic State insurgent with a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle while firing from a high-rise during an operation that took place within the last month in Iraq. It took under 10 seconds to hit the target." I wonder which would have got there first. The bullet or the faint echo of "sorry"1 point
