  1. I just got off the phone with Ronnie (my son) down in Kingston Springs in Cheatham County. He just got off the phone with the Sheriff down there. The Sheriff told Ronnie that they have recovered 4 of the guns that were stolen from our home back in 1988 when they burglarized our home while we were at the hospital with my oldest son that was in a coma from and auto accident. They recovered all long guns. The most important one was recovered which is my dead sons Winchester model 1200 12 gauge. They also recovered my younger sons 20 gauge Winchester 1200 , my Mossberg 4.10 Pump and a Marlin 30/30. They said the investgation is on going and they hope to learn where more of them are. There is only 4 more long guns out there and all the rest are hand guns. The only gun out of all was my dead sons Winchester Pump that I really wanted back. I had bought it and my other sons 20 gauge for Christmas 3 years prior to my sons accident. I bought all 3 of those shotguns at Speciality Arms in LaVergne a couple years after they opened up for business and they were running a special on Winchesters. I wanted a pump 4.10 for a couple years so bought the Mossberg and because I was buying the other two guns they gave me a package deal on 3 guns. I remember having to take the 4.10 back because it would shoot around corners. When I told the guy it would shoot around corners he laughed but took the gun in the back to their range and test fired it 3 times. He came back out with a new Mossberg in a box and handed me 5 boxes of 4.10 ammo. He said you are correct sir. It does shoot around corners. He said the barrel was evidently bent from the factory. Very nice folks to do business back then. They have grown a lot since I bought the shotguns. I really wanted it back most of all. They said they will be returned after the case is closed but at least I now know it will be coming home eventually where it belongs. All they could tell Ronnie right now is they were discovered in a home in Cumberland Furnace during a drug bust raid on a house there and the occupants were arrested for dealing drugs out of the house. My son ask if he could give him the names of the drug dealers but he said he could not because it is an ongoing investigation. Ronnie was trying to see if it was someone he knew. Will keep ya'll updated as I learn more.

  2. LOL. I carry a 6.7oz Keltec P32 every day and never feel outgunned in the way I live. Sometimes I carry a G26 9mm or S&W 340PD .357, but when I really want to feel comfy and safe at home I look at a pair of 12 ga pumps. Handgun caliber comparative discussions are sort of silly.

  3. Great! Isn't that the point, anyway? Not every pistol is designed to be a long range target pistol.

  4. Thugs thinking a “No Guns” signs on a private residence means there are no guns could possibly end badly for them. It could mean “Gun Control is in effect…I control all the guns.”

  7. Just did this on two of the big D cell maglites my father in law used. He passed away the end of March. Both still have dirt and grime on them where he had used them. I bought 2 kits. They are fantastic and very bright now. Wasn't cheap but having these two flashlights working is priceless for my wife and I. One stays by her bedside and the other is in my truck. Ordered from https://malkoff-devices.myshopify.com

  9. Thanks @rugerla1. I was wondering if a simple bulb replacement was possible. Looks like it might be. Didn’t know there was a spare halogen bulb in the bottom of the old ones. Just checked one and sure enough there is.

  12. Honesty after 30 years I had given up ever hearing any word about the guns but I guess miracles do come true if you wait long enough!!! I'm betting the guys that were caught with them are not and were not the burglars that stole them. My guess is they were traded for drugs. Either way I will be getting at least the 4 back. Have no idea what shape they will be in but does not matter right now. Just knowing that 12 gauge is in the 4 is enough for me right now..

  13. Are you really gonna give that much credit to thugs that they would think there are guns in the house?? They blow past the gun buster signs in stores and rob them all the time. Do you think a gun buster house would slow them down????? Your realy giving them way to much credit for being smart............... I have a sign in my front window with a picture of a shotgun that says: Private Property! I have posted it to you in english! Do I need to say it in 12 gauge!!! I don't really have a shotgun. I have 2 of them.

  14. I'm a historical fiction / plausible alternative history fan, with a lot of other stuff on my shelf. A good setting is as important to me as a good plot, with a vivid imagination I can transport to Agnicourt, 1632, the Napoleonic Wars to modern day locales. Series I'm working through: Eric Flint's 1632 Cromwell's Sharpe adventures Waiting on Martin to put out the next GOT novel, but having watched past the books, not sure I even care.

  15. When I ever worked on one, I would just use a couple drops or so of a good gun oil since its viscosity doesn't change with extreme temps. Just enough to barely smug the tube. Another thing I always looked for was some times the fiber buffer would be missing from the back of the receiver so it was a bear to get a new one peened in on the little rivet that's supposed to keep it in place. Over time, the pounding bolt would beat the snot out of them and then they would end up taking recoil metal to metal. Hope fully, your is still in place.

  17. Good looking deer you have there. Came out to see this in my back yard the other day. Rare to see deer on my acre. I think this is the 4th time in 17 years. Looking later it seems like they ate the tops out of all my volunteer tomatoes plants at that stump. Lol Then noticed momma was ahead but still watching. Then they were gone...

  22. I understand that. I went through law school nearly 40 years ago. That was why I used the word "spirit." My wife has a friend who literally has a "no guns allowed" sign on the front door of her house. I know that's totally allowed, but it sure doesn't seem smart!

  23. First time seeing them this year but I think that 8 may be one I let walk last year before his left side fell off. If it is, I'm sure glad I passed on him. I was after a big 8 last year but I don't think he's shown up yet because he was ridiculously tall, just needed more width. As hard as it was passing everything last year, I think it was well worth the agony lol.

  27. That makes perfect sense. The magazine tube on this gun is smooth as glass and putting just a bit of 'tooth' on it would make a big difference. Instructions I have found on lubrication state not to run the friction system either 'dry' or 'over lubed'. The suggested process is to wipe the tube with 30 weight engine oil, and then wipe the tube with a clean cloth, leaving a very light oil film. I will report back when the new friction ring arrives. Thanks for the suggestion!

  28. That's pretty damned funny! Years ago I ran a forum for performance car enthusiasts here in Nashville. Halloween and New Years Eve parties with the moderating team meant "drunken bannings" which were exactly what they sounded like. Folks got their avatars changed to some really questionable things, temporarily, during the process. It was all in good fun and the members absolutely loved it. Of course, that was back before my kids and before I was trying to be a responsible adult.

  29. There were early brass friction rings that did not have a beveled lip that mated with the steel "inward" bevel of the steel ring. The best resistance of the barrel is with the beveled brass edge into the barrel ring and the opposite beveled edge into a steel ring's matching inward bevel. The best way to gauge if its giving correct resistance ( IMO) is by the force of the spent shell leaving the gun. If your in the 6-8 foot range standing, that's good. If its chucking them out past 10-12 feet with stiff field loads, I'd rough the tube up lightly a tad with 220 grit shoe shine way with a strip. Those tubes can get glazed to where they just cant give the resistance any more.

  30. https://www.theblaze.com/video/2a-win-government-will-allow-cody-wilson-to-print-and-distribute-plans-for-3d-printed-gun TV Channels Radio SIGN UP LOGIN 2A WIN: Government will allow Cody Wilson to print and distribute plans for 3D-printed gun The News & Why it Matters Jul 11, 2018 5:21 pm SHARE TWEET Back in 2013, Cody Wilson designed a 3D-printed gun called “The Liberator.” After printing his own guns, he decided to share the plans on the internet through an organization called Defense Distributed. Because distributing plans to build guns is illegal, the State Department’s Office of Defense Trade Controls Compliance ordered Wilson to immediately stop distribution of any and all plans. Two years later, The Second Amendment Foundation, a nonprofit, filed a lawsuit on behalf of Defense Distributed. Earlier this week a settlement was reached, allowing Wilson to distribute his 3D-printed gun files online. The federal government will also have to pay a portion of his legal fees. Special: The truth about cryptos and how Wall Street & Washington are covering it up Why is this important? In recent years, especially after the massacre in Parkland, gun control has become a hot-button issue among political groups. Politicians from both sides have called for extreme measures and protests have been held. The AR-15, a sporting rifle, has been labeled an “assault rifle,” and a “weapon of war,” discouraging the use and purchase of said rifle. In a press release, the Second Amendment Foundation stated, “Significantly, the government expressly acknowledges that non-automatic firearms up to .50-caliber—including modern semi-auto sporting rifles such as the popular AR-15 and similar firearms—are not inherently military.” Many conservatives feared that their Second Amendment right would be taken away by the gun-control advocates on the left, however, this settlement, while not actual law, may make a significant difference in the handling of Second Amendment cases. What does Glenn think? Back in 2013, Glenn Beck interviewed Cody Wilson, asking him about his newly 3D printed gun. Today on “The News and Why It Matters,” Glenn showed the actual gun to his co-hosts and discussed the importance of this settlement. “The government said that every, including up to a .50-cal, is not a weapon of war, and that includes modern sporting rifles, otherwise known as AR-15s,” Glenn said. Host Sara Gonzales replied, “I feel like that will have huge repercussions later on down the road because when they talk about ‘assault weapon’ bans, and ‘weapons of war’ bans, and things of that nature, all of those are all included in that list.” Cody Wilson made strides for the Second Amendment in America. Read more about this settlement here. Watch the full clip above. 31. Got enough people complaining about .380. Would really amp up with the .32. I really like the .22 compact for the new shooters. Short step to the .380 when they are ready.

  32. Just for the record and future reference since this thread seems to have taken a productive turn: Typically I do not tolerate this sort of thread being posted to take a moderator to task for their actions. In the future, if I get to a thread like this before another moderator does, I will ban the person responsible for it without question, without second chance, and certainly without a PM. As MacGyver said, we trust our moderators. If they make a mistake, they generally own it and we fix the problem. But TGO is not a democracy and mob-rule does not hold water here. I won't tolerate it and I won't allow the 100% volunteer staff to be called-down publicly by someone that they moderated for doing what they felt was out of line with our forum Rules. This might be a good place for me to post these links, for everyone's benefit. They appear at the bottom of every page. TGO Rules and Guidelines TGO Registration Terms

  35. I'm on a site that has "Hosts @ Admins Day" at random times, usually only about once every few years. For that day, the H&As have absolute power to do anything they want. Posts, avatars, signatures, etc. can all get changed at the whim of an H&A. Certain words are auto-replaced with other words to hilarious effect on the uninitiated, entire boards disappear and are replaced with something else, usually a parody of the board that was removed, crazy stuff in general. H&As make arbitrary and often capricious rules as they see fit, and change them anytime they want throughout the day. Rule violations come with a variety of punishments from being pounced on by the peanut gallery on up to and including being banned for the rest of the day. Then the next day it's (mostly) all reversed and put back to normal. There are usually a few lingering effects (like maybe an Admin is slow to return some particularly butt-hurt member's avatar to normal), but it's fun and a good way for H&As to blow off some steam.

  36. No idea. If I am lucky, I will get to take it to the range this weekend. Next week sometime is far more likely. It identifies as a black powder flint-lock pistol.
