Well, another year has come and gone and I find myself wondering about the future. Sometimes I feel we are doing great, then I see something happening that convinces me we are going straight to hell at top speed with no brakes. Then I read the content here and realize the caliber of men and women here and see some hope. There is goodness still in this world and it lives on TGO. I see the friendship, the love of God and county, and the sacrifice made by some to keep us all safe. I see belief and faith in God expressed freely and openly in times when it is not always PC to do so. I see and am amazed at the help, love, and concern freely given from member to member, usually without the need to ask. I see the compassion given in times of pain. I see congratulations given in times of joy. All this and so much more. I feel truly blessed to be here, not just on this world and this country, but in the midst of good men. Men I strive to emulate and deserve the friendship of. Lastly, I feel grateful to know and be known by men who expressed concern for me in my prolonged absence recently. For friends like MacGuyver, Steelharp, Bersaguy, TrickyNicky, Kharman, gothegoods, TrippleGGG, prag, and gregintn, just to name a very, very few of the good people here that I can call friend. Yes, I am blessed with a loving, caring, and good wife, who puts up with me and my antics. A family though widespread, that accepts me as I am. A home and reasonably good health. A future that many in this world would envy, and so very much more. So to family, friends, my TGO family, all our military, and first responders, to those who stand in harm's way for others... I wish us all the Merriest of Christmas's and Happy New Year's. May God continue to Bless us and our nation. Amen.11 points

I hope everyone has a great day, whatever your definition of "great" is. Whether it be the loud insanity that family can be sometimes ( I have multiples of those to attend) or the quiet peaceful reflection of a good meal and a good book. I joined just over 2 years ago and found just what I was looking for, a source of gun knowledge and trading. I also found friends that I did not expect. Thanks for both. At my house, the stockings are hung on the bookshelf and Santa has filled them. So now it is time crawl into bed before the all-out white knuckle rocket ride between houses starts tomorrow. Merry Christmas!3 points

Merry Christmas to all. How can you not love TGO? We're like one big dysfunctional family. We fuss and fume amongst ourselves and are looked over by David and Mac and the rest of the crew who make sure we don't mess our beds too badly. I just wanted to take a moment to thank the moderating crew and everyone who's contributed to the discussion this year. I want to wish everyone a happy holiday and I hope everyone finds some joy in the season. I'll have a drink for all and hope you do the same for me.3 points

What a truly excellent post hipower! I agree 100% with everything you said and feel very blessed to be a part of this community. Merry Christmas to you all. I know many here will be working tomorrow, as will I, but my thoughts and prayers are there for all of you. I hope everyone else can enjoy the time and fellowship with those they choose. Could not have expressed feelings any better!!!! This is the only gun site I am on any longer and the only other site I spend time on is a fishing site I am a founding member of since 2008. Have many friends there also but it is a lot smaller than TGO but the people are also 1st class. Merry Christmas to all and a very Properous New Year to all................3 points

As my screen handle suggests, I might have mentioned the BHP, but Leroy's criteria of plastic ruled it out initially. However, I find that my Hipowers, and the related clones; CZs especially, are some of the easiest to shoot pistols I own or have ever shot. Most fun for me? Dang, I want to say the BHP/CZ. But I have been slowly converted over the last 10 years. I find the 1911 platform the absolute boss for me in all metal frame pistols.2 points

There’s a reason that the P35 was one of, if not the most widely adopted sidearm around the world.2 points

I really want to see this one so I may see it when it comes out on DVD rather than waiting for it to hit netflix. Clint may be gone by the time I see it. I don't do crowds much.2 points

Thanks for the link. Lots of interesting grips. Not quite an Esmerelda, but neither as elaborate or as high. Thinking about some Super Rosewood for my oldest BHP and my O model Colt.1 point

Hey, I’m just some old guy, born and raised in TN. Been around guns most of my life. Really became an “enthusiast” shortly after Clinton became President, lol...but, for real! Joined a club, started reloading, shot in monthly practical pistol matches, etc. I haven’t been “into it” or shooting on that scale for a long time. I miss it and it’s time to get back “into it!!” DD Cleveland, TN1 point

Stage II ProCharger D1X came in... Still waiting on the DSX Auxiliary Fuel Pump kit Looking for a good boost gauge. Can't seem to find any info on which is the best. Got all the packing out to check off the parts list... 110lbs worth of junk in there according to the shipping label.1 point

I'm not sure I agree. My 1911 has substantially more recoil than my Glock 21. It really is a night and day difference. The metal guns don't "absorb" the recoil like the polimer frames. Maybe 9mm is different?1 point

I'll agree that a full frame steel gun is gonna have the least recoil. The older, big S&W autos are really good. Just find one that fits your hand and your eye.1 point

Like my M1 carbine project, this one got way out of hand. Once I was pot committed, I had to see it to the river. The total investment includes repurposed items not specifically bought for this carbine and amortized over 8 years. $175: original purchase, used new in box with PotA stock, 4 mags, and compensator. $70: ATI storm-clone stock. IF YOU OWN ONE OF THESE, THROW IT AWAY, THEY ARE FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY. This stock is the reason I had to make a warranty claim AND HiPoint covered it. This stock is poorly designed for the recoil and will damage the firing pin channel. I had fired less than 200 rounds will using this stock and the damage is easily identifiable by HiPoint. I disclosed to HP my use, they fixed and advised continued use voids the warranty. $50: Deerfield 3-9 x 40 scope, this was a freebie, part of a trade deal. $20: Scope rings $40: Budget bipod, swivel mount Got scared enough by posts on the HP Forum to ditch the ATI and upgrade to the TS stock. Noticed no damage when I swapped out the receiver, but the damage was already done. $40: Tactical stock $45: Mag holder +2 mags $50: Budget bipod, rail mount $40: BSA red dot Ran this version through a carbine class with no malfunctions and determined with 10 round mags, I could keep it running. Then I saw the High Tower Armory bullpup and I had to have it. They have addressed the recoil with a more fully supported barrel and piston to buffer the bolt. $250: HTA stock with one charging handle $15: ambi charging handle $200: Burris FF3, repurposed from my M1 Carbine. $70: 2 M-Lok QD sling mounts and swivels $40 Magpul AFG2 $30: Caldwell sling Swapping from the TS To the HTA revealed the unique cracking of the firing pin channel from the ATI stock. I probably shot 1000 rounds in the TS with zero malfunctions, so unknown how much longer I could have shot it before a failure. $18: Shipped back to HiPoint, USPS Became a customer for life when I got it back, the only re-used part was the frame. New breech bolt, internals, receiver cover, stock with tool-less receiver pins, 6 new mags to replace the 6 old ones, one new mag, and the sling and swivel kit. The finish if the new bolt and receiver cover is much improved since 2008. Per checklist, 110 rounds of 115gr blazer, rem, and win to function test with all mags. $65: 2 Redball 20 round mags and 2 HP speed loaders. You should not pursue a similar project, too many purpose built, higher quality 9mm carbines in the market. If you're thinking about getting a PCC, start with a TS and be happy It works. 110 rounds of Win 124gr NATO 7 new 10 round mags; HP is improving their branding - HP logo and mfg date stamped into mag body. 2 - 20 round Redball mags. Zero malfunctions. I have to slightly rotate the mag in a counter clockwise direction to get it to fall free, occurred with all the mags. I'll call HTA next week and report back. Since I was moving the Fast Fire from one gun to another, I did my best creating a rest with my two sandbags, but couldn't quite get a comfortable set up. Center, 3 mags, 10 yards, tweaked windage only LL, 1 mag, 15 yards LR, 1 mag, 20 yards UR and UP, 1 mag ea, 25 yards Not pictured, 15 yards at 9 - 2" circles, 20 yards, 6 - 3" circles, and standing, 15 yards, 8" circle, 15 of 20 on target.1 point

Just to throw something different out there - Sig P320 X5. Weighted magwell, 21 rounds of flat trigger goodness. But like someone else said I wouldn't go plastic, I'd go either CZ SP-01 or Shadow 2, depending on what kind of money you wanted to spend.1 point

That's been my mode for quite a few years. The last two movies I saw in a theater were 2012 and the truly awful Keanu Reeve version of The Day the Earth Stood Still.1 point

Agreed. I bought mine when they first hit the market, just because it was a cheaper pistol. I paid 249 thru on of the online distributors then. I bought a jewel for rhinestone pricing. The TP9sa has been a great shooter. Fantastic trigger, short audible reset that's so easy to manage it's unbelievable. Grip angle is awesome and the feel is perfect. I'd like to say I converted Steelharp to it, lol, but I really don't remember if he bought before or after we got together with mine. Either way, the Canik would be a great choice for a high capacity, easy shooting, "plastic" 9, Leroy.1 point

The CZ P-09 or the CZ 75 SP-01 Phantom are soft shooters also.1 point

If big and plastic fantastic is what you want maybe a Glock G17 or SA XD service size. Broadening the horizons a bit might interest you in a Sig P320 though. So easy to shoot. What I would really recommend is an old S&W third gen. There are few softer and pleasant shooting 9’s.1 point

My very personal, humble opinion. Rock Island. You can get pistols from the standard GI level up to some very nice models with features like see on 1000+ pistols. All for about 600. Disclaimer. I do own Sigs, Springfield, Smith, and Rock Island 1911 pistols.1 point

While I don't feel inclined to buy a new pistol, I wouldn't even think about it above $500. On the secondary market, I'm out for deals, so the price has to entice me. Plus, while I'm not out to screw someone, I never feel obligated to pay for the value a person adds onto the gun with after market parts when it comes resale time. Then the add-ons are subjective in value based on the potential buyer; steel sights vs. night sights, for example. A lot of individual gun sellers need to learn re-sale is almost always going to involve a loss of capital you sunk into the gun. Trying for breakeven isn't conductive to a sale.1 point

While in theory I have to agree with you, in reality that was never possible. The cost of manufacturing in socialist run countries like Belgium is astronomical. Especially when you include all of the taxes that are levied on them, not to mention government run health care and retirement. Along with the cost of what they are required to pay their workers in both wages and benefits. Many European countries require 6 weeks paid vacations for most every employee. Put all of this together and it forces prices to be raised beyond what the market will bear. In the case of the Browning Hi-Power, that was over $1,100.00 by the time they ceased production. Americans always scream how they want quality. But they always complain when it comes time to pay for it. The end game was they simply couldn't charge enough for the gun to make money on it. Browning / FN was able to partially reduce costs by having assembly take place in Portugal. But in the end even that was too expensive to allow production to continue. This is also why Glock started assembling their weapons in Georgia instead of Austria. Now they even fully produce them here. As expensive as American workers are, they're cheap when compared to Austria along with the rest of Continental Europe. Turkey is different. Many American gun manufacturers like Weatherby are going to Turkey for many of their products. Turkey has an excellent reputation for manufacturing quality at a reasonable price that insures profitability. Assuming our political relations with them don't go south, this will continue to increase. You have to remember, if the manufacturer can't make money, it's not going to be produced. I don't care what you're making. Here is a video showing the Tisas plant in Turkey. I've worked in the metal working trades for over 45 years, and this is as clean and modern of a manufacturing facility as I've ever seen, or been in.1 point

I would guess that being able to depend on it to go bang every time you pull the trigger and being any where near accurate would trump how ugly they are............JMHO1 point
