  1. Suppose you had a Grandfather that worked his whole life, veteran of WWII even who saw you as his favorite grandchild and left you his prized Colt Python .357, pristine and kept in the best repair and condition, (box and all) in his will. When the fateful day arrived and he went to his reward, no longer troubled with the scars of war and strife of life... The Probate of his Estate, meager as it was, consisting of his house and few possessions scattered about the multitude of his survivors, comes to fruition some months after his passing and you receive an RG .38. with cracked plastic handle, broken pawl. You contest the intent of the will only to be told by the Executor and Probate judge that you should be happy with the fact you go something akin to what your progenitor intended, and if you are savvy and toss in a lot of hard earned cash and trade up over the coming years at some point in the future you can possibly achieve the equal, if not exact item that was yours to begin with... I keep going back year after year, for decades now, to attempt to gain back that which our sires won for us from an overreaching tyrannical government, wrested with bloody hands and in fact due in great part to Tennesseans who would not take crumbs of their God given Rights to Liberty but at Kings Mountain shot and killed their rulers, bleeding and dying in the attempt to leave us with our Right to arms and true representation re taxes and being able to keep our property and some semblance of privacy. We are culls who have allowed scurrilous men to steal those hard won issues, kneeling and "taking what we can get" from their table. Legislators, off duty LE and judges carry with impunity everyday, wherever they wish Are they made of finer clay than we who simply work and die and shoulder the biggest part of the duty and payment for the society we now live in? Where Rights are chipped away successively, bit by bit and drip by drip, the water in the pot coming up to heat while we clamor about the good work of a legislature that knows we are due the full gift of recognition of the 2nd Amendment at least?

  2. Two amendments were offered by Republican's that changed the vague legally present language to the permissions in Enhanced permit carry, they were stuck down as being filed incorrectly, but they were in fact prepared by legal. I am the one doing the ads and please tell me where I have misstated any fact, that REAL Constitutional Carry includes long guns and the 18 year old an up provision? Did we think those had a chance, no, but our constituents want the REAL thing, while others are OK with something less. By the way, I have not once said I was against the Governor's bill , just that it needed to be amended. I take no pay for the efforts I make or have for the last 20 years. It sure is not making me an friends and has nearly cost me my livelihood, so any who think I am involved for any personal gain are incorrect. I am old and am going to die soon, and I want my grand children as well situated before I do as possible. Everyone who is involved knew the Governor's Bill was going to pass, they did not vote for the Republican Amendment by Jerry Sexton because leadership did not ant that minute change to wherever an enhanced permit carry allows and there are plenty of places in this passed bill that you can not carry that you can with the enhanced permit, like when you are bow hunting or in a number of parks, but those traps make work for lawyers.... If you ordered a pizza and wanted anchovies and pepperoni and you got chicken and pineapple would you be happy? A lot more work went into this attempt to get the right thing than any of you might know, or actually can imagine, and it will be years now before they take any of these issues back up. I have 20+ years in working these issues and for me, personally, I will keep my permit because I want to travel out of State and can afford it. Of far more import, Civil Immunity (HB 0025) passed with more votes then the Governor's bill and that one affects everyone regardless of their desire to have a permit or not. I have been working that bill for 15 years and got it through the House again tonight. So, while there were expecting me to raise sand about the "Constitutional Carry Bill", the real work for us guys who realize we are the only defense we have against crime prevailed. It did last year too, but the Senate refused to even take it up. They can't afford not to hear it now, it is by -partisan, I even got 6 Democrats to vote for it. The bluster and dust got raised about something they pushed back on what everybody admits is not the correct thing we should have, all the while the most important thing slipped under the door unnoticed.

  3. @Worriedman Thank you for your tireless work on this specific effort and those in past years. Tennessee is becoming more reasonable every year in regards to 2A rights because of what you do. I know it can be a thankless and controversial job, but it is not a job, you truly believe and fight, when you could easily be doing something else.

  6. There are not enough Democrats to do anything, they could hold their Caucus meeting in a dang minivan. Everything that happens for good or ill is the direct responsibility of the Republicans. You will notice that all "our" guys voted for the Governor's bill. I set about strategy to try to remove the most egregious portions of it last night before I left the Capitol, and you know there are parts that are not good. As long as I can drag my tired old fat hinney up those stairs and through the tunnel I will keep trying to get back to the 1796 Rights where it said Tennesseans have the Right to keep and bear arms without any qualifiers. Communities hung criminals as did the State and that cut way back on recidivism. In truth, looking at the dollars intended, this is merely an increased criminal penalties bill for those who actually look at the text, nearly $20million worth of increase. Gov. Lee is doing his best to turn criminals out at an astounding rate, giving them tax dollar paid for college and trade school classes to make them better citizens...revolving door funding with tax dollars of something, not sure what. Had they simply called it Permitless carry for some ion some places I could have accepted that. But to your point, I intend to fight another day, starting as soon as the gavel rang on this one.

  9. Good point above. I am in the process of putting in a Generac as I type this. One thing the people that built my house did was put a hand pump on the well where you could get water even if the power was out. You don't want to do it a lot, but it does give you the ability to get water for emergency purposes in a worst case scenario.

  10. Does nothing for me. Had my permit since you could get them and i have no intentions of letting it expire. Keep in mind CC in TN doesn't carry reciprocity to another state so if you travel and want to carry you'll need a permit. At least that's how I understand it.

  18. You do not need to carry the original and I would advise against it. You should keep a copy, physical or digital, with you when you have your NFA item in case it is requested by an ATF agent. How often do you encounter an agent? Rarely, but better safe than sorry.

  19. Yeah, it weird. We all know that $99 charbroil is really going to disappoint you. I think the key to a gas grill in my mind - is that if they make much of anything besides grills - you should just move on. Or, you can think about it like this. Go down the grill isle at your local big box store or someplace like academy sports. Who do they stock replacement parts for? Weber will have a whole section - because they're meant for you to be able to replace parts on. Anything steel that goes through heat cycles like that is eventually going to rust. So, choose a maker that's going to let you replace those parts - preferably without having to special order them.

  25. Watched 30 minutes or so of house going over the amendments on TV tonight. The pro representatives had good arguments. Several Democrats from Nashville and Memphis spoke against with pretty bogus reasons like loss of training for people carrying (the democrat compared the permit training being similar to military gun training) and the police associations be against it so a vote for was a vote against the men in blue. The funniest negative was a Democrat from Memphis that asked about not only the loss of income from fewer permits but the extra money in the budget. The fellow presenting the Bill explained that the increase was for the longer sentences for breakers of the stricter laws for stealing guns and longer sentences for other gun crimes. The Memphis rep said that didn't seem fair to increase penalties for people caught up with attractive nuisances such as guns being stolen from cars. Guess he didn't his voters put in jail.

  27. Harris Combative Strategies TN / GA / AL Training Group! On Saturday April 24 we will hold a meeting of the TN/GA/AL Training Group in the Oak Ridge area ! Subject: HOW QUALIFIED ARE YOU ? Instructor: Randy Harris Randy's Bio Location: Windrock 720 Windrock Rd, Oliver Springs, TN 37840 Time: 9AM EASTERN time - 3PM EASTERN time Price: $100 - pay at class by cash or check or Electronic payment by paypal or venmo. Paypal - cruelhandluke2000@yahoo.com Venmo - www.venmo.com/Randy-Harris-47 What you need to bring: Pistol, at least 2 pistol magazines and at least 150 rounds of pistol ammo. Revolvers are welcome if you want to party like it is 1899. We will be shooting some challenging warm up drills and then the Air Marshal , FBI qualification courses and many others. I will also keep records of these (if you are happy with your scores) for future reference and use . This will serve to get your shooting prowess on record by a third party in case it is ever needed in the future in some legal matter. This is also something your church might like to have for their records if you are a member of a church security team. As far as the courts are concerned if it isn't documented it didn't happen so this is an opportunity to get some official scores on paper in case you ever need them . Not only that but it will be a good day of shooting some somewhat challenging and well known courses of fire. This is an EXCELLENT chance to bring someone you know who might need a "reality check" on where their skills actually are. We all know people who are gun owners who keep threatening to get some training. The training days (especially the pistol qual day) are a great way to get them into that and show them what is possible with some directed practice and see where they REALLY are at their present skill level. Looking forward to seeing you there! We will also be there Sunday offering our Technical Pistol Skills one day pistol class...... Technical Pistol Skills

  30. @Handsome Rob I really hope you're allowed but I'm not sure. #1 below concerns me. "Under present law, it is an offense for a person who carries, with the intent to go armed, a firearm or a club. This bill adds an exception to the application of this offense that a person is carrying, whether openly or concealed, a handgun and: (1) The person meets the qualifications for the issuance of an enhanced handgun carry permit" Later on it says the bill was amended "ON MARCH 18, 2021, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1, AND PASSED SENATE BILL 765, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 revises this bill's exception to the offense of carrying, with the intent to go armed, a firearm or a club. Under this bill, it will be an exception to such offense that a person is carrying, whether openly or concealed, a handgun ,and: (1) The person is at least 21 years of age, or is at least 18 years of age and has been honorably discharged from military service or is on active duty and has completed basic training" So it almost seems like they ditched the requirement that someone has to qualify for the enhanced permit. Hopefully someone else will chime in and clear things up. https://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=HB0786&GA=112

  31. Ok, so...ummmm dumbass question here: I've been kinda on and off following this, not expecting it to pass. Does the passing of this bill mean that everyone who can legally own firearms carry, or only those who can legally hold a carry permit, carry? I ask, because as a non immigrant alien (i'm sorry if y'all are all sick of this by now) I cannot get a carry permit, but I CAN legally purchase & own firearms (NFA excluded) I want, rather, need to know if this bill means I can legally carry, or if i'm still prohibited.

Before we get too excited that it was a private school in Midtown Memphis of all places, and was one of our optional “enrichment” courses at the end of the day on Thursdays or some such thing. All the girls took something else.

  36. I find this interesting, pasted on a Legislators FB page. I would interested in were he got the date mentioned for Tennessee, and the long guns, I think not. Constitution of the Union was ratified in 1788, and TN became a State in 1796? Bill of rights was ratified by Virginia on that date but what does it have to do with a non-existent State?

  40. I went through a similar process last fall. I also had a Weber Genesis Gold C that I finally decided it was time to retire after 20 years. It actually still cooked fine, but it was looking a bit rough. I have a Kamado Joe (basically a BGE with a couple of better features (sorry, had to take a jab at my BGE brothers :)), but I still wanted a propane grill for quick cooks. I ruled out a pellet grill simply because most don't sear as well. I was similar to you in that I wanted a good grill, but didn't want things like side burners, etc. I did want stainless burners and ideally grates. Long story short, I ended up with a special version made for Ace that had everything I wanted, but it didn't have the stainless grates. I ended up replacing the porcelain grates with "grill grates" which are aluminum grates that a lot of people swear by. It wasn't the cheapest grill, but I expect it to last a fair amount of time. This is the one I got. They also make one without the extra sear burner for a bit less. Best part was they delivered it assembled completely free. https://www.acehardware.com/departments/outdoor-living/grills-and-smokers/gas-grills/8017320

  41. Just remember that SCOTUS ruled back in the 30's that a federal law prohibiting you from growing wheat in your backyard for you own use was constitutional under the Interstate Commerce Clause. Don't believe me? Google Wickard v. Filburn, just make sure you have some antacid nearby it will give you heartburn. This case and others that used it as a foundation are what 'allow' federal gun laws to survive constitutional muster today. Because you building a gun in your basement for you own use might impact the commerce of the gun market in theory, Congress can regulate the sale and transport of all firearms. It's all complete nonsense to anybody with a pulse and half a brain, but then again we're talking about Federal Judges and Congresscritters.

  42. That is disingenuous, working the bills is not shown on the video stream, I got 72 yes votes for my bill, the Governor's bill got 64. I am simply telling the facts of the game that is played. How many days have you spent working 2nd Amendment issues at the General Assembly? How many meeting did you attend in Nashville with groups of legislators to actually write bills and advocate with Leadership to seek their passage. I have spent two decades involved in the effort. Employee Safe Commute, Guns in Trunks, Guns in Bars and Guns in Parks, all issues that leadership fought that TFA championed and worked to pass, a lot of shoe leather and groveling spent, I saw very VERY few others doing that work. Here is what Senator Kerry Roberts said about the issue, and yes he also said he would support the bill as written, but these comments bear witness I think. https://youtu.be/4tRXSSBP3cw

  43. Not correct, it was simply brought up on the rule that says 2/3 present can call the merit to the floor, the original amendment, two of them on the same issue one by Jerry Sexton who is really ticked that our tax payer funded Vanderbilt lawyers "messed" up filing the amendment correctly. I have some beach front property in Weakly County for sale too...Leadership did not want to even have a discussion because on that as the "powers that be" did not want to entertain the issue, the two amendments were timely filled, signed by the sponsors and left in the Clerks office, there was no mention of any impropriety at noon when they were filed, the impropriety discovered after the deadline to correct them... and pray tell what was the harm in adding the ability to carry where the Enhanced Permit carrier could carry to the bill, enlighten us please.

I havent read all of the comments but one thing to consider is that when the power is out so is your water. That has been our biggest issue over the years. living in tornado ally. We put in a Generac whole house generator last year so that problem is solved but definitely something to consider.

  48. Proving once again that fear isn't rational. The council fears guns and thinks if they are banned, they are magically safe. What they fail to realize (acknowledge?) is that guns are already being carried & used by those they should fear (criminals). But honest people are currently at the mercy of those that already flaunt the law. Permitless carry (aka, Constitutional Carry) merely levels the playing field & violent crime will go DOWN as a result. Chicago politicians have followed the same thinking as the Memphis City Council for many years. Same outcome (300+ murders per year.) What is that definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over & over again, but expecting a different result. The governor is on the right path. Thankfully the Memphis council can't over-rule state law.
