  1. We can debate tactics, gear, and spend countless hours on 9mm vs. 40 S&W vs. .45 ACP...all that is just filler. Nothing determines an outcome more than the mindset of an individual who acts when human instinct is to freeze or flee.

  2. Elisjsha Dicken (the Good Samaritan and of the two people with a gun that day, the only one who’s name I care about) did not have a permit. He was legally carrying under the Indiana constitutional carry law that went into effect 16 days ago.

  3. I heard it was a G17. His girlfriend is also a bad ass. She used her jacket to make a tourniquet on the leg of one of the injured.

  4. Just read this. He hit the gunman with 8/10 shots from 40 yards. That is incredible. He also stopped him within 15 seconds of the shooting starting.

  5. The wife and I got our Real-ID last year. A couple weeks ago, we flew out West. In the TSA line, all they needed was the Real-ID. They didn't need to see our boarding passes. Somehow they tied it all together. They popped the license into a reader, and it pulled up everything about our travel plans. That level of personal info being tied to it in a gov database kinda scares me.

  6. I wouldn't. They complicate your holster options, I've seen them break off of the gun before, and there is really nothing that they offer that can't be accomplished by improving your grip onto the gun with a little trial and error.

  7. What a validation of the change in law. Hate that it happened, but this vignette has a clear takeaway that the new law is a good one.

  10. A lot of opposition is emotional but much of it does have some basis in reality, depending on the source. EV’s have definitely come a long way in a very short time but are constantly evolving. We have seen the same with computers, communications, phones, etc. over the past 20-30 years if not longer but everyone knows those are disposable and relatively inexpensive in the grand scheme of things depending on need. While combustion engine vehicles are pretty much disposable, they can still be made to run for decades, as long as they don’t have a bunch of complicated electronics, or at least replacement part cannot be found for. EV’s are expensive. Regular vehicles are expensive. Not everyone can just run out and buy a rolling iPhone and expect to keep it forever. That battery is going to go bad at some point… and it’s going to be expensive to replace. Many older people who are retired or are soon to be there simply cannot afford to go out and buy a fancy new EV, much less have to repair it a few years down the road. I’d say many of them are set with the vehicle they’d got and may have planned it that way. There are tremendous amounts of people these days that can barely afford rent. No way they are going to find cheap transportation in an EV world. And all those people that live out in the boonies with no charging solutions are going to be screwed until they buy their own and pay the electric bill…or hope the local government and some business puts in charging stations for them. I see a lot of backwoods communities resisting that with a passion…because emotions.

  11. So like many hot accessories, might be ok for certain competition guns, but not really beneficial for a carry gun.

  13. Was that independently validated, or a Tesla test? Seems weird that the last 20% would take an hour and the previous 80% only thirty minutes. But here is another issue I have seen, the public charging stations usually only have about three or four charging units, so if there were a bunch of cars on the road, waiting in line would have to be factored in. Only a few times I could remember that I got to pull right up to one of the many pumps at a gas station, the last time I was behind three vehicles, at say 30-90 minutes each...yea, NO.

  14. I also heard police say he moved tactically towards the shooter while waving other people to safety. I wonder if we'll ever get to see the security footage of that part. I'm sure most of us have wondered how we would handle such an event. I've always been concerned about having a safe backstop so you don't accidentally hit someone else. From what we know so far this young man did about as good as anyone could hope for. He deserves all the praise.

  16. To be clear, I am not at all against electric vehicles. I AM against government mandated electric vehicles. Let the public decide what it wants. So far, a big hogging v8 engine works for me. That may well change in the future.

  17. When market forces drive the change to electric vehicles, it will be good. Government forcing this will turn out badly.

  20. I saw one story that focused on how rare it is for a shooter to be stopped by a bystander. "It isn't common for mass shootings to be stopped in such fashion. From 2000 to 2021, fewer than 3% of 433 active attacks in the U.S. ended with a civilian firing back," Do ya think it just might be because most of these shootings have happened in "Gun Free Zones"? The antis are reaching hard to try to discredit Mr. Dicken's actions, but it ain't flyin'. The Chief and Mayor of Greenwood just keep praising this young man at every news conference and on camera. Even anti-gun MSM can't just ignore that. I LOVE IT!

  28. Not only that, but I just saw report that said he fired 10 shots and made multiple affective hits from a distance of 40 yards away. What an absolute Chad. I’m curious as to what gun he was carrying. Not because it matters that much in the grand scheme of things, but out of a personal desire for it to be something cheap. Being prepared to defend yourself and others is for poor people too. There is a lot of elitism in the gun community, and that’s just my personal axe to grind.

  29. coat all metal parts with either WD professional spray, or Hornady Clean and Lube....both offer outstanding protection. Then slide into individual silicone cloth gun sleeves. As others have said golden rod is a must in that area.

  30. I have a '21 Ford F150 Platinum Powerboost Hybrid. Unless I'm messing around in Sport mode, I get city/hiway 25+ mpg. Not uncommon getting close to 30mpg. Around town it varies but most of the time, I'm in electric. It has a V6 with balls and Turbo. The battery is covered for 100,000 miles or 8 Yrs. I'm very happy with the truck. The story of that family is unfortunate and that they got screwed over. They should sue the dealer. Not sure if the warranty was over or not able to be transferred, but oh well. Got to do your homework. Putting weight against the hybrid is ridiculous. I will not/ever go full electric. But happy so far that I can get over 700 miles on a tank of regular gas while maintaining a decent mpg with an F150...

  31. Not that I hate them but their obvious lying about its advantages only to find that there are no advantages. Just heard on WTN 99.7 them telling of an instance where parent's bought a used E-vehicle for $14,000. A couple of months later it needed it's batteries replace. They wanted $14,000 for the batteries. That would piss me off.

  34. Our airport security is more strict than Europe. Many of the airports I went through in Europe only had metal detectors and none of the full body scanners. They also don't make you remove yours shoes when going through the line. No one in customs asked us any questions aside from the standard ones. I was expecting it to be like the movies where they question you at length.

  35. Its where its all headed unfortunately. Especially if you travel internationally. And the UK and Europe seem to be worse than the US about it.

  36. That's part of it but the reality is that only a small percentage of people with a carry permit actually carry most of the time. I know a lot of people with a TN HCP and I'm one of the only ones that actually uses it regularly. Those of us on this forum are the exception.

  40. My safe is in a basement shop/garage. I use a combination Eva-Dry and Golden Rod. Since it is my shop I run a dehumidifier about 9 months out of the year set at 50%. I do nothing to the guns and have had no problems after 7 years. I left it on the 4X4 skids it came on and bolted to two wall in a corner and put a trim piece across the bottom so it isn't obvious that it is on skids. The crew that delivered and set it in place suggested leaving it on the 4x4s to keep it off the concrete and make it easier to move in the future. I also have an upstairs safe with just an Eva-Dry. I just watch the color on the end for when to charge and take them out and plug in the wall overnight.

  41. This stuff has been in the works for years. I held a Commercial Driver's License for 40 years due to my job. CDLs always have to be renewed in person and you must bring proper ID. Well my proper ID has always been my original birth certificate that was given to my parents when I was born. Its one of those old white on black early photocopies. Never had a problem with it until about 10 years ago. Went to renew my CDL and all of a sudden my birth certificate was no good. I had to go back home, get my DD-214 and go wait in line another 3 hours to renew my license. Later I had to make a trip to the county Health Dept to get a certified copy of my birth certificate. This new one has barely anything on it but my name and date of birth, but it is certified. I still don't have a Real ID. I haven't flown anywhere since 2002 and have no plans to in the future. I guess when my regular license expires in 2027, I'll fool with it then.

  43. My favorite place to get (very in-depth) reviews for TVs and monitors is: https://www.rtings.com/ Personally, I went from a BenQ dual-monitor setup to a single Hisense 65H9G TV. With 65-inches of display setting arms-length from me, I don't feel the need for more screen real-estate. If I do need additional space, Window multiple desktops (WIN+CTRL+D) gives me a clean display to work with and I can swap back and forth between them (WIN+CTRL+(right or left arrow key)). You can close the additional desktop with WIN+CTRL+F4.

  44. Like everyone else, I use a goldenrod and have my safes sitting on wood instead of concrete. I also keep a container of DampRid in each safe and replenish them when necessary (usually annually at the soonest).

  45. Mine actually fit into an existing large cabinet so you can’t see the safe unless you know to open the cabinet.

  46. Don't put it directly on concrete, it will rust. A piece of plywood works well.

  47. Use something like the goldenrod, but also get some RIG and use a light coat on all metal surfaces. When I say light, I mean like you can barely tell it is there. Use a shaving brush to get in the hard to reach areas. This is especially good if you are storing them for long periods of time. https://www.amazon.com/Birchwood-Casey-Universal-Grease-Ounce/dp/B0033CMK0A A little goes a long way. Get the wool rig rag and a brush and you should be good. https://www.amazon.com/Shaveway-Original-Shaving-Engineered-methods/dp/B00LMTHSF8
