I volunteered at Bristol Motor Speedway this morning. It was ran by volunteers with a lot of Tenn National Guard helping. I worked in the warehouse sorting donations and it was about as well organized as could be expected. The volunteers were all very nice and worked well together. It was very encouraging to see all the items donated by people and businesses all across the country. I would recommend that if you are able and live near Bristol to go online and see what is needed and volunteer.8 points

Folks... The FEMA folks will do nothing more than hand out dollars for storm cleanup and infrastructure repairs. They may pass a few dollars along to those affected by the storms n flooding, but it will be little n late. That's what the gubt does. I've got several buddies that worked part time for FEMA after retirement, they surveyed n assessed the cost of storm cleanup, infrastructure damage and the like. They always took up motel space and drove around surveying damage, nothin more. I think the TN national guard is, in fact, helping to clean up storm debris, take care of logistics for relief supplies, n fly them into remote areas. I see that as a good thing simply because of the tools and manpower the guard has. That said; I DO BELIEVE there are some shenanigans goin on in Johnson County, TN and probably in some isolated Western Carolina counties. I'ma thinkin these are local issues where sheriff's n local state emergency management folks are becoming the wannabe tyrants they always were. As to Western NC; I think that the ratty governor of NC could care less about Western NC. As to the " local tyrants "; affected folks will take due note of who they are and get rid of em in due time at the ballot box. Getting rid of the governor will be a bit tougher I'ma thinkin. Meanwhile, there are plenty of lovely stories of outside groups helpin with the full support of gubt agencies. Problems are never fixed by gubt, nor kindness shown by them. It's always the kindness of benevolent groups n individuals that make the difference. Please continue to give time and treasure to those who are helping these folks; they are doing a whole bunch of good where it counts. The gubt ain't gonna help anyone in the short run, they never do. leroy...5 points

There are also plenty of reports from folks on the ground about FEMA being not simply absent, but actively a hinderance. I would imagine that both types are reports, good and bad, are equally believable. I doubt that there is some grand conspiracy but simply pockets of competence and incompetence competing to provide the lasting narrative on the government response. It’ll eventually all shake out but taking in all the data isn’t a bad thing. Neither is understanding that our own personal biases (whatever their nature) will color how we view what we see.4 points

Preferably imported. Cash price is 800 if interested in outright purchase. I'm about an hour west of Clarksville in Paris. Thanks for your time.2 points

Probably where I went wrong.. I don’t blame Carnival. Their employees were great. The ship was nice. It was the clientele I had a problem with. It is sure a cheap vacation if you can stand it. That probably explains the clientele.2 points

Already do. Pot is illegal. The feds just ignore that law in the states it's legal. If they can smoke pot, I should be able to have $1k machineguns.2 points

I got a few texts asking if this was a Shield . This is an M&P9 sub-compact 9mm. It is the double-stack 9mm that is sub-compact. It is like a Glock 26 but it holds more rds than a Glock 26 , it holds 12rds. Same size. It will use the 15rd compact magazines and the 17rd full-size magazines also just like a Glock 26 . But it is higher capacity than the Glock 26 with the smallest magazine being 12rds where the Glock 26 only has 10rds. I have 2 of these but selling this to thin the herd. Pretty good deal for $325. This price is in the "Taurus" price range.2 points

I have two Leupold Rimfire scopes for sale. Both are in gloss finish and in excellent condition. Leupold Rimfire Special, 4X, 1 inch tube, no rings (but I have some Weaver tip off that works well with grooved receivers that I'll throw in), nice gloss finish, made in 1990, fine duplex reticle, $275, $250 local meet and pickup... Leupold Rimfire, 4X, 1 inch tube, no rings (but I have some Weaver tip off that works well with grooved receivers that I'll throw in), nice gloss finish, made in 2009, rare Hunt-Flex duplex reticle, with Leupold neoprene cover, $275, $250 local meet and pickup... The scopes are in excellent condition and hold zero well. All glass and optics are in excellent condition also. I can meet close to the Oak Ridge/Knoxville area, and maybe a few other nearby places. I'm near Oak Ridge, otherwise, I'll have to charge a little extra for shipping. Research these scopes and I think you'll find that my prices are very reasonable. Additional photos are available if needed. Any questions, please send me a PM or reply to this ad... Thanks...!1 point

I totally get where you’re coming from. Luckily my neighbors are acres away, and like minded. Once one of us starts shooting on the weekend there’s usually a 15-30 minute lag before the Cumberland ridge starts to echo in various directions. I have an elderly neighbor that I pal around/handyman/garden for and shoot with every once in a while. He goes down for naps a lot, if I have an open window on a weekend off and I’m shooting some large caliber I’ll give him a shout to make sure he’s not napping. Not every time, but if I have an open 6-hour window I give him a quick buzz. If I've got the itch, or trying out a new gun and just want to run a quick 6-10 mags early evening, I won’t call. He’s also had some younger kids over and called me once while I was plinking and asked if I could refrain as they’re not used to hearing gunshots. Could argue that I should just let them get used to the fact that guns used responsibly aren’t scary, but at the same time I’m not gonna ruin their right to quiet enjoyment during a picnic just because I want to shoot off a dozen mags of higher caliber. Saw a new neighbor move in, introduced myself and gave my info saying if they needed help with anything around the house or if anything happens to give me a call. Mentioned that I shoot once every week or so and put it rather matter of factly. She responded with “yeah, my daughter heard and didn’t like the loud noises”. I replied with “well her uncle next door shoots too, I hear him sighting in his rifle before every deer season, and her uncle shoots a lot of handguns so I’m glad she’s used to it” and left it at that. But at the same time, if the kid has a birthday party I’m not going to invite a few friends over and have us all ringing steel midday. So while I understand that it’s a right and I’m doing nothing wrong, I still want to respect someone’s right to quiet enjoyment. Not the biggest inconvenience for me to be neighborly when I could in theory shoot most evenings before dusk after work.1 point

You didn't miss much at Franklin. Venue was large, but the place felt mostly empty. One guy had a table full of older milsurp guns, but other than that it was the usual Glock/AR-15 show.1 point

Last year, my wife guilted me into taking one of those bus trips. I dreaded it. I knew it would be all elderly folks. It was going someplace I’d always wanted to see, so I agreed. We were some of the younger people on the trip, but we had a great time. Everybody on the trip were very nice and had a lot in common with us. I’d be happy to go on another one. You just never know until you give it a try. I gave cruise ships two tries. They still suck.1 point

I agree with @Grayfox54 about going if I have nothing better to do. Most often what I am looking for won't be found at the shows. I try to go to at least one RK and one Great American each year. The show in Murfreesboro was cancelled and I couldn't make it to Franklin last go around but no big deal. I do hope to get to Lafayette for the show there. It was small last time I went but that's fine. I don't like the packed in no room to walk shows and tend to spend very little time in those. Typically RK has more room to manuver IIRC. GA has more non gun stuff. The redeeming quality is finding unobtainum magazines or ammo.1 point

RED... I think the " slippery slope " opinion is well founded. The big hitter here in my mind is the fact that it's being discussed at all. Greg Abbott in TX and Ron DeSantis in FLA have already fired the " across the bow " shots on the Feds NOT ENFORCING federal law with no consequences. The reason ( I think ) is that they are in the right. The federal gubt cannot pick n choose which federal laws to enforce based on their particular proclivities. That's why the feds ain't moved on it. The next step ( And the step that the original Articles of Confederation envisioned ) is individual state nullification of federal law. We're living in interesting times Brother... leroy...1 point

Many years ago I did this. I was a gopher/grunt for an electrician my first job out of high school. My task was to pull a piece of romex through the attic of preschool/daycare one morning. Needless to stay I made a misstep and stuck a boot through the concealed grid ceiling. It didn’t help there were preschoolers in attendance at the same time .1 point

I've seen multiple reports from people on Facebook saying FEMA is on the ground and helping. I'm guessing the disconnect is that they can't be everywhere. I'm sure there are places they haven't reached. One person on Reddit gave a detailed report sharing how they spent the day with FEMA going door to door, taking a census and seeing which supplies each house needed. Even governor Lee has stated the federal government has been helpful. Again, people are going to politicize this to help their cause. There is clearly a misinformation campaign going on. Being so close to the election is not helping.1 point

There are enough domestic disinformation spreaders including the government and politicians at all levels, “journalists” backed by multimillion/billion corporations, hysterics that get their information from social media, and little punks sitting in their mom’s basement intentionally spreading bull#### just to get a reaction. Yeah, Russia and “other foreign actors” are pros at it, but the American public is so beyond gullible any idjit can say boo on the internet and it spreads like wildfire.1 point

They've been doing some shows in Memphis and Somerville the last few years. Frankly, I'm not impressed. They choose venues that are too small and end up too crowded and difficult to walk. Mostly the same old overpriced vendors and little I find interesting. Plenty of new stuff, plastic, ARs and such. But I'm looking mostly for older guns and pickin' have been slim. Parking at the Somerville venue sucks. Not near enough and many have to park in the grass and along the side of the driveway. I went to that one once and haven't bothered to go back. The Memphis venue is only a few miles from my house. I'll go if I just want to get out of the house for a while, but don't really expect to find much. I've just skipped the last couple. But this is the west end of the state. I can't speak for what they have in your area.1 point

We ventured out today on our isolated Island and could not believe the generosity being shown. There is at least 6 places along the 25 mile road that doesn't go anywhere giving out food and water. We got some bottle water at one about a mile from our house and some staples like bread and milk etc. Tried to make a cash donation to help replenish and they said no. Everything was donated and an another truck was coming this afternoon. We then tried one the other direction in the hopes they had bulk water that we could fill our jugs for flushing and dishwashing first one had a long line so we kept going down to where we heard they brought a big tanker in, like 5th wheel semi size tanker and they filled up our jugs for us then told us we had to take a case of bottled water even though we had plenty at the moment. They said everyone that stops gets at least a case. Then to our surprise a small specialty grocery next door was not only open but had electricity. There internet connection was down so cash only. Not a problem we keep cash on hand just in case of a power outage not expecting a massive flood. So we indulged in some treats we probably would normally buy along with some fresh cold cuts, eggs and 2 of their great deli sandwiches. Then back home, pretty good outing. Found a neighbor that we had only met once sitting at the end of the driveway (we are at the top of the road so it is a good place to see about half the road). He asked if we needed anything he was apparently out check us old people to see if we needed anything. I assume he saw us leave and was waiting for us or guarding the road, because after he talked he took off. Second neighbor that has checked on us and offered to help if we need anything. Our neighbors are pretty much friendly but it isn't a let's get together neighborhood, so it is great that they are willing to offer help. Even the fellow that does our lawn work, that lives out of the isolated area, texted yesterday and today checking if we were ok and even offered to bring us food, water and gas if we need him, he is a volunteer at one of the food/water stations. There are great people out there.1 point

Everyone needs a 10/22 in their collection. They're relatively inexpensive, a good size for young shooters and have a decent set of iron sights for teaching fundamentals. I've got several, including one race dragon that was made from a billet 80% receiver and designed specifically to shoot Aguila SSSs. But, the one that I got under the Christmas tree as a kid is a cherished possession that I love to shoot to this day. There's no telling how many 10's of thousands of rounds that rifle has seen, and still continues to run like a champ. A coke can has never met a more formidable enemy.1 point
