  1. This am, I ordered a new gun I've been wanting for a while. Walther PPS M2 RSMc 9mm. Has a Shield red dot sight with 4MOA dot. Should be here Thurs. or Fri. Anxious to say the least. Got zeroing to do. Sights co-witness with the iron sights, if needed. The dot stays on all the time & adjusts for light. We'll see how it goes, will take some getting used to. My old eyes, and tri-focal glasses, will, I think work better than with iron sights. Ordered from Lebanon Gun Shop, on Hartman Dr.

  2. Well it's finally done. I finally got moved to my new home. I now live in Gordonsville Tennessee and back in the country again after 20 years of city life. I forgot what it was like to need something from the store living in the country. It's not a 10 minute trip to grab a few things anymore. The nearest stores are about 12 to 15 miles away. So now I need to get back in the habit of when I go to the store I need to stock up instead of just grabbing a few things. I also am now living in a house I could have put my last house in the living room of. It's a journey just to make it to the coffee pot first thing in the morning!! The kitchen is also huge. Master bedroom is as big as both of the bedrooms in the old house. I have put all of my furniture in the rooms and they still look empty. Getting TV reception is an adventure also. I'm shopping a new antenna this coming week. Need something with more than a 50 mile range on it. Tommy said they are bringing Fiber-Optics lines down this road in about 2 months and I am sure hoping Spectrum is one of the servers on it. If it is I will be getting TV and Internet as son as they can hook me up. Tommy (SIL) says he just wants internet cause they don't watch enough TV to get it. Another thing is I have not got a good nights sleep since I have been here. Not use to it being so quiet at night. Oh well just wanted to bring folks up to date on whats going on in my life..................

  3. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have subscribed. I’m currently listening to “situational awareness”. A few takeaways for the church security podcast that I will bring up: •Tag system for nursery. Apparently we’ve tried it before but I believe it wasn’t implemented properly. •Is our church willing to invest in the team’s training? •Lanyards for team visibility. •Addressing the level of commitment from team members. I have full faith that everyone on our team “cares” but do they care enough to seek training and really strive to provide a top level of safety. •Limit openings to what is needed to fill and empty the church. He used an inhale/exhale analogy. •Dealing with the “we’ve always done it this way” mentality. This will be tough but I think with well presented data this is easily overcome. Emotions and tradition are a tough nut to crack though. There’s more but I’ll probably revisit after I’ve had a conversation with our pastor and my FBI friend this evening about all of this. Lot’s of good info there though that has hooked me to future listening. Between that and Joe Rogan I’m set for life with listening material.

  4. Let me know what you think. William, the retired SEAL who runs our safety program, is one of the sharpest guys I know on this subject. The safety protocols at our church are no joke. It's the first time that I've been able to go to church in a decade or two and feel like the folks charged with being vigilant and protecting the congregation have it under control and I can relax enough to focus on WHY I am at church.

  5. I have been told the many of crimes committed in church are pre-cased or at least premeditated. Thus the biggest deterrent is for security team members to approach visitors and those that seem even the slightest bit out of place with a warm welcome...."Hi, are you new here, can I help you, where are you from....." just a small innocent conversation frequently deters someone with criminal intentions, because they do not want to be noticed, and especially they do not want to be remembered. It is also great to network with other church security teams and learn from each other. And all advice thus far given by others is valid.

  7. Quoting to emphasize the bolded bit. I’m generally opposed to a BOS, but were I a buyer, I’d be ok with signing the BOS @DaveTN posted. The one you have, I wouldn’t. I’m ok with giving someone a name and phone number, even showing them ID/HCP to prove residency. I’m not ok with giving someone my DL#, address, and pretty much all the info needed for identity theft. You have the right to ask for whatever information you wish to feel comfortable making a sale, but the buyer can also decline to provide it so it’s wise to make sure everyone is on the same page prior to agreeing to a sale and meeting up.

  8. I know some of you could care less where your guns are made; but many of us do; this discussion is for those members. Buy American, Hire American, America First. More and more we see guns in the bottom feeder category that are American Made. Lets face it, until the last few years the only decent American Made gun that is low cost and wasn’t (arguably) junk was the Hi Point. We have come a long way. The thread about the Stoger and the Canik (both made in Turkey) being under $300 made me think that we have better options for less money; even American Made options. So if you like to buy cheap guns, and want to buy American; now is a good time. Even prices on some of the top quality, best sellers in the Industry have dropped. The SCCY CPX we routinely see selling below $200. It’s currently made in Florida with the company in the process of moving to Tennessee. And it gets good reviews Kel-Tec PF-9 right at $200 and the P-11 just over, and made here. Diamondback at just over $200. New models like the Remington R51 (brought back after a bad start) at just over $200 and the Mossberg MC1SC at around $300; we shall see. Ruger EC9 at around $250 and Security 9 and SR9 at $300. MOSSBERG MC1SC at $300; we shall see. All the Highpoints at around $175. They have a big following… bless their heart. And even Smith & Wesson Shields at $250 and Full Size models dropping below $300!! Proven performers.

  9. I am giddy. Working as hard as I can to get my dedicated climate controlled reloading space up a working.... without dying in the friggin heat! Here's a 3D model of my plan. The A frame looking things are press mounts. They will be made of Maple ply (will stain) and patterned from this guys mount: https://rickaverill.com/projects-past-and-present/dillon-rl-550b-mount/ Instead of hard mounting direct to the bench, I am using tee nut inserts (screw mount, not the 3 pokey prong style), like this guy did: https://www.flickr.com/photos/93396776@N06/albums/72157663547333758/with/27602044619/ That way the presses and smaller tools (case trimmer, manual charge thrower etc) can easily be removed leaving the bench free and clear of semi permanent obstructions for cleaning/smithing etc. The bench has an underlay of OSB and will have a white Melamine top with fascia caps boards around the perimeter. They will sit about 1/4" above the working surface to stop rolling things (cases, projectiles etc) from bailing off.

  12. In our church, our Safety Team has been in place for 8 years. We have our hands tied as far as armed security. Our city regs say we can only have off duty Policemen for armed security. That also the church must provide a 1 million dollar bond and 1 million dollar liability policy for the armed guards. As a church of 220 we can't afford the coast. The last time we checked the officers were 100.00 per hour with a minimum of hours per day. Our Safety Team has had to mostly handle disturbances within our congregation. I will say we do lock all outside entrances, from the outside, and that can even not work. Our last disturbance, a teen allowed a mentally disturbed man into the building, and the aftermath was not pretty. We also keep a man in the entrance hall, but he was gone to the back locking doors when the teen allowed the guy through the main doors. We now keep a man in the main entrance while someone goes back and locks the back doors. We have two men scheduled for duty, one on Sundays and one on Wednesday nights. They serve for 1 month per year. So far, it has worked for us. We have had some practice sessions, but our church leadership does not like to broadcast anything about our team, and don't want to disturb the members, plus it is that liability thing at play from our insurance company. Oh, plans of mice and men! Those who have valid concealed carry permits are allowed to church carry, however it is strictly for their own protection. They are NOT "Quazi" on property guards for the church. Our Safety Team is a totally UNARMED team. There is no easy answer to safety, or armed security on site, but one sure enough should have men who are willing to step up and handle situations, within the church, if they are forced too. We even caught a neighborhood boy coming in and going through coat pockets during classes when the halls are empty. You will be surprised what goes on, in the building, during class time. We were. Any church should seek information on laws and regulations in their local communities to stay within the law of that area. Also church liability insurance can be very sensitive to any mention of armed security, on church premises, so proceed with caution. Be safe!

  15. It's right up there with a metal shop being able to produce something like a Sten... the hysteria about it is disproportionate to the actual risk because of the media. That being said, the technology is getting less and less expensive and I look forward to the day where you might have a Metal Sintering printer in your garage alongside your belt sander and drill press... it would be incredibly useful for creative inventors who couldn't otherwise turn their dreams into reality. For example, before the FLIR Breach was released, I designed a monocular for a FLIR Boson core so I could use it at the fire station for search and rescue calls. The FLIR core could be removed and then mounted on a drone A more practical use of current generation 3d printers wouldn't be to create the firearm itself, but a blank that could be used in a mold (there are lost PLA techniques similar to lost wax techniques).

  17. As a whole….I think to be realistic it requires more than a passing commitment by those involved. Many facets would be involved. The thing I see lacking is most church security info is live fire training. A bunch of old guys with pistols in their pockets is not (IMO) “better than nothing”; it is worse. You need to try (as best you can) to set-up working as a team. That involves mock scenarios and what each person should do. I think there are trained professionals that offer their services free, or at a low cost to churches. I’d have a conversation with the local Police Chief or Sheriff about training; you might be surprised what they are willing to offer. Legal training is also required. You must all understand the use of deadly force laws in this state. As a former cop my recommendation for this is always the local DA. Their interpretation of the law is the only one that matters, as far as someone being charged with a crime. Civil liability is also a big deal, not only for the church, but for all of you collectively, and individually. A good local attorney that handles those type of cases would be where I would start. We live in litigious times, so that will be open ended about what could happen. It’s good that you are doing this for your church and your community.

  18. This is the BOS I use. But all that matters is you are happy and the person meeting you knows what you are going to require from them in advance.

  19. No bill of sale is required. Some of us do it because we want to. You are required to know that the person is a resident of this state and of age. Since you have no way of doing a background check the requirement is that you can’t sell to them if you know, or should have known the person is prohibited from purchasing. I require a bill of sale, I don't require an HCP. It is a simple BOS with both our names, a phone number, and a statement that you are not a prohibited person, it doesn’t even have an address. I have it to cover my butt if someone I sell to is lying. I also have a C&R, so I can’t sell to anyone under 21. You always need to make it clear in the ad if you are going to require a BOS; some will not buy from you if you require that. I require a simple BOS, but that BOS you linked is ridiculous. You aren’t getting all that information from me; you don’t need it.

  20. Anyone seen or held a Sig 365XL? Suppose to be shipping. Same size as the Glock 48 basically but 15 +1. The Glock just seems to be the perfect size for me but it has the Glock trigger which I dislike. I just can not get use to the trigger. Tried a Sig 365 and the trigger is much nicer.

  21. I haven't tried the Glock but I do have the Sig p365 and like it a lot. Get the 12 round mag and you can get a better purchase on the grip and still pocket carry with pants with decent size pockets. I also bought 2 of the 15 round mags for spare and it feels like a bigger gun with it inserted.

  23. Don't mean to rain on this parade but good God what are they thinking? The only thing worse than a falling down sleepy drunk is a wide awake falling down drunk! Of course I may be a little biased as I frequently draw legal blood alcohols, before 0900, in our ER, for local LEO's. Frequently...all too frequently. So please...if you are gonna combine alcohol and coffee...Stay you A** at home. This has been a PSA from your local ER RN that has no ill will towards PBR.
