  2. Ok. I probably should have taken better (more) photos. This is the rifle I got when my buddy Bjon got the one above. It’s also a Winchester 1894 but from 1907 chambered in 38-55. I cleaned up and re-did the oil finish on the wood. This was the dirtiest rifle I have picked up yet. It made me wonder if it had been cleaned in the last 50+ years. I had to get oil in it just to get it to cycle. I did a complete tear down, cleaning and such. The rust was removed from the metal parts for the most part and then cold blued. I like them to still have some of their character, not to look like a Turnbill gun. I picked up an old Lyman peep sight for this one.

  3. We had an 18 wheeler hit the bridge abutment of SR171 going over I-40 in Mt Juliet and severely damage it. I don’t know if you can imagine closing My Juliet road, but it was a disaster. I tell you this to say that no one haggled over who paid to repair it. The state picked up the tab, and later went after the trucking company, insurance company, and whoever to recoup the money. Priority one was to reopen the bridge to traffic. That may not make sense to you, but it does to me.

  4. Hate to break it to ya, but that page of history has already been written. Our kids and grandkids will get to live it because we gave away everything in search of cheap crap to buy at cheaper prices and the illusion of always fleeting power. The locus of global power has shifted eastward already and we are doing nothing but continuing to impoverish ourselves with our foreign and economic policy and focusing on an irrelevant European continent. China, Russia, and the Islamic world doesn’t have to do anything to destroy us other than not get in our way.

  5. I saw Buttgig in a news conference say they will likely have to seek funding from Congress (aka taxpayer dollars) to replace the bridge. I call BS on that, they can use some of that $1.2 trillion they just got a couple of years ago: "The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), aka Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), was signed into law by President Biden on November 15, 2021. The law authorizes $1.2 trillion for transportation and infrastructure spending with $550 billion of that figure going toward "new" investments and programs."

  7. Quite a valid point. FIx it and sue the at fault. Should be a slam dunk with the history of that ship. My thinking is the fed dollars will never be returned, prices will increase due to using other ports, the shippers and ports will make a profitt and any money recouped from the ship owners will be diverted to the companies who take a "loss" over the whole mess. In essence, we will pay twice to rebuild. Also, I'm totally untrusting of anything coming out of Joe's mouth.

  17. If we stopped all the foreign funding and aid, maybe we could have nice things for ourselves too. Like good roads and infrastructure. I know Europe’s real proud of that universal healthcare subsidized by American taxpayers in the form of NATO security guarantees.

  21. Thanks @Links2k. I've got the "3 Body Problem" in my que. I am thoroughly enjoying "Shogun" on Hulu. I remember the original series on TV and read the book a very long time ago. I'm impatient by nature so waiting for weekly episodes to drop is not my favorite thing... but the series is developing well. I like old cheesy action movies... like the original "Road House" with Patrick Swayze , Sam Elliot, and Ben Gazzara (1989). But then I think "Lethal Weapon" and "Die Hard" are excellent Christmas movies The "Road House 2024" on Netflix is an abomination! Blasphemy! and I can't get that part of my life back... ETA: I stuck for the next 4-5 weeks on a walker/rollator and ortho boot according to my surgeon yesterday...LIMITED weight bearing hoping the tendons attach properly...so please keep recommendations coming in please.

  22. I was raised in Baltimore and used to fish the pylons of that bridge from Dad's boat as a child. I shed a tear or two when I first saw the footage. I just happen to be headed tomorrow to visit the parents, the last leg of the trip being on 695. Yay... Pray for me as I will be on two wheels. Jay

  24. Yep. I wonder how much prices in general are going to go up now due to this new hitch in the supply chain. I’m being a bit facetious, but also serious. Where do the boats with European ammo shipments land? Hope it’s not around there.

  28. Just my opinion, I know it stinks paying for a service without a guaranteed result. So far you’re out $400 rough math, call it a 1$ a day. What’s the price that you’re willing to walk away and have a potentially subpar sleep. If someone said that I could sleep better and it would cost me $1800 a year I’d pay $5 a day to spend a third of my day actually rested and wake up ready to seize the day and in my best mental head space. I know sleep apnea is a pain but if you can extend life and quality of sleep I hope it’s worthwhile and helps.

  30. It means gun control that only restricts the freedom of law abiding citizens. Typically they want every legal gun sale to go through a FFL (and a national registry and tracking system for all firearms), ban any magazines that can be easily detached and/or hold more than 10 rounds, severe restrictions on where/when you can legally carry a firearm, registration and qualification to own a firearm, ban assault weapons (which of course are just semi automatics with cosmetic features that scare ignorant people), take away firearms from any person they think might be dangerous, and other such things. None of these things will prevent criminals from committing violent crimes like assault or murder which are already against the law anyway. I call them nonsense gun laws as opposed to common sense.

  31. I think he is referring to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (B&O Railroad) bridge that was on the line that ran through that area but it was torn down in 1889. So, it has been a while since he was on it but we all know ho he often gets confused.

  32. You didn't mention what kind of area you want. Urban, rural, suburbs, or something else? Do you have school-age kids, need access to certain facilities, want to see sports, etc? If you want to live in a city, Knoxville is probably as good as it gets in TN. Nashville and Memphis are solidly liberal-run cities, with Chattanooga being surprisingly liberal. Suburban areas around any city are usually solidly conservative. When my wife and I moved up from Atlanta-area 16 years ago, we actually got up early in the morning so we could drive into Nashville so we could see what commuting to work would be like. At the time, that sold us on Wilson County versus other areas. Do your homework and you can avoid a lot of problems. And there IS a cure for Commifornia influence: teach people about actions and consequences! All government programs are some form of vote-buying to get support from one group at the expense of the general public.

  36. ^ Great deal. I jumped on brass S&B that was loaded to 10mm spec at $.40CPR a good bit ago. Wouldn’t hesitate to do it again shipped and tax free. Anyone who wants to stash 10mm for handguns I’d move on this.

  38. For the record here, the Francis Scott Key bridge is a part of the federal interstate highway system (I-695). It is also a primary conduit of truck traffic through the area and the designated route for hazmat cargo through Baltimore. this will have a significant impact on commerce and logistics, both by land and sea for quite a while until the bridge has been rebuilt.

  41. Agreed, one can just throw back the ones you don't won't to keep, they won't cause problems at home by calling you or showing up at the wrong time to create an embarrassing, possibly very expensive situation either. They don't complain and harass you whether you keep them or throw them back, and are just as "fickle" as a female hooman. LOL

  42. Ok so first is a 1923 Winchester 94. The barrel is actually from an earlier 1894 and is octagonal. It has been cut down from 26” to 22”. This is a buddies but I did the cleanup on it. Full tear down and cleaning. Wood cleaned up and a new hand rubbed oil finish. The barrel blueing is great except for some spots near the muzzle where something got on the finish and caused rust. I cleaned it up the best I could w/o messing with the original finish. The receiver/parts, butt plate and forend cap got some cold blueing. turned out nice.
