New M&P Shield

I don't have a problem with it, but to each their own. Based on the appearance, I'm guessing it will function like the after-market Glock safety and lock all of the passive safeties on. It doesn't look like it crosses the slide at all when activated.

I dunno. At first glance, I'm seeing this as a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, but S&W will probably sell boatloads of these.

If I didn't already have the 9c, I might be interested in this.

Since I have not bought an M&P, and was sorta interested in the 9c, I'll be interested in looking at it, but, for me anyway, it may be too small. I think the attempt to make the smallest hand cannons has gotten to the extreme lately. But...that's just my opinion.

Slide just looks a tad shorter than the compact, and of course it is probably a lot thinner if it is a single stack. I can understand the want for a single stack compact 9 as the market seems to want some high concealability firearms, but I find myself almost wanting something g19 in size for the extra rounds. I will probably just stick with my 9c, especially since there is a manual safety on that. This will definitely be a hit for people that love the g26 but don't like the thickness. (hopefully they will offer a non safety version otherwise they will limit their sales, thats for sure)

I'd heard about this little gun, but the first photo I've seen. Good looking gun. No doubt they'll sell well. Seems like

the manuf. are jumping on this bandwagon.

The external safety is something I can take or leave. Just something you get used to if there is one. Like the

grip safety that was on the XDm I had. Never saw the point in it & not fond of it, but wasn't a problem.

Be interesting to see what the price will be on this little gun.

And now we know why S&W dropped the SW9 & SW40, this will probably be a much better selling platform. It's got HCP and CCP friendly all over it and will make some inroads in other gun companies market place. Now if only Glock would pull their collective head out of the sand and also come out with a single stack, thin, 9mm or 40 S&W as well.

It seems like this is just another example where the manufacturer is trying to produce a pocket size gun but they just can't quite get there.

Add this to the list with the Beretta Nano, PPS, Kimber Solo, LC9 etc etc.

I don't understand why they put a thumb safety on the gun, the M&P's don't come standard with a thumb safety, why did they feel they need to put one on this model?

Regardless of what I think, the M&P's are great guns, I'm sure this will be a big seller for them.

Why would the safety be a issue? If it has other trigger and internal safeties could you not leave disengaged and accomplish the same goal?

I think the concern is that you could leave the safety off but it could potentially engage while being in a pocket, then when you might actually need it you pull the trigger and nothing happens. Could this be solved with training? Absolutely.

I just don't think a thumb safety was necessary.

SD9 and SD40 aren't dropped. I was told it is one of their biggest sellers.

Where did you hear that? The SD9 and SD40 were dropped, but the Sigmas are still shipping.
