  1. Last week I was poking around looking for a new .300 BLK upper for my SBR and noticed that Noveske had a new hat in their catalog. Doing the reasonable thing, I ordered one. It shipped out on January 2nd and was packed by the man himself. Your AR15 may have an inflated value right now, but money couldn't buy this hat from me. I'm man enough to admit I teared up a little when I saw his signature on the packing slip. MFNJN... Mother F'n John Noveske. Rest In Peace, John!!! :(

  2. Not gonna lie... the receipt is in the safe.  The hat, well... I'm going to wear it til it falls apart.  I think that's the best way to honor a guy like that.  :)

  3. This "administration" should have more respect for their predecessors.   From George Washington's address to the second session of Congress: "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty, teeth and keystone under independence. The church, the plow, the prairie wagon and citizens' firearms are indelibly related. From the hour the pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurrences and tendencies prove that, to ensure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable. Every corner of this land knows firearms, and more than 99 and 99/100 percent of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil influence. They deserve a place of honor with all that's good. When firearms go, all goes. We need them every hour."

  4. I look at the profit people are making off of selling their personal ARs and such the same way I do the winnings most people get from the lottery.  Here today, gone tomorrow... and gone very quickly.   There's no way I am selling any of what I own just to make a quick buck, especially given that there's no guarantee I would ever be able to replace it.

  5. Saw this from TN state rep Jeremy Faison today: "I am proud to have introduced legislation today, along with Sen. Frank Niceley, that no state funds or resources will be expended to confiscate firearms should the federal government order such confiscation or limitation. I agree that it is past time for the state governments to reaffirm their parental responsibilities envisioned by our founding fathers over an out of control federal government."   I cant link to a bill yet - GA website doesn't have any house bills posted yet, and the Senate version isn't up either.

  8. A Republican, in a wheelchair, entered a restaurant one afternoon and asked the waitress for a cup of coffee. The Republican looked across the restaurant and asked, "Is that Jesus sitting over there?" The waitress nodded "yes," so the Republican requested that she give Jesus a cup of coffee, on him. The next patron to come in was a Libertarian, with a hunched back. He shuffled over to a booth, painfully sat down, and asked the waitress for a cup of hot tea. He also glanced across the restaurant and asked, "Is that Jesus, over there?" The waitress nodded, so the Libertarian asked her to give Jesus a cup of hot tea, "My treat." The third patron to come into the restaurant was a Democrat on crutches. He hobbled over to a booth, sat down and hollered, "Hey there honey! How's about getting me a cold mug of Miller Light?" He too looked across the restaurant and asked, "Isn't that God's boy over there?" The waitress nodded, so the Democrat directed her to give Jesus a cold beer. "On my bill," he said loudly. As Jesus got up to leave, he passed by the Republican, touched him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Republican felt the strength come back into his legs, got up, and danced a jig out the door. Jesus passed by the Libertarian, touched him and said, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Libertarian felt his back straightening up and he raised his hands, praised the Lord, and did a series of back flips out the door. Then, Jesus walked towards the Democrat, just smiling. The Democrat jumped up without his crutches and yelled, "Don't touch me .... I'm on disability!!"

  9. Random thoughts running through my head...     1.)  Disarming the populace was part of bringing democracy to Iraq.   2.)  You don't get to be a general, let alone Commander, International Security Assistance Force and Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan without being part of the political machine.  Granted, Gen. McChrystal dicked himself good with his comments about Obama while in theater, but this strikes me as him trying to make new friends by going back and licking the boots of those who slapped him down.   3.)  This makes me wonder about the notion that the military would take the side of the people if it was asked to turn against them as part of a mass confiscation of firearms.  I'm guessing the military would possibly fragment as a result, but that in turn makes me wonder how long that fragmentation would be allowed to occur before soldiers were executed by other soldiers for treason.       As Larry Vickers put it over on M4Carbine.net earlier today...

  10. I had a thought and I'm floating this out there as just something to chew on.  I'm not advocating any sort of unrest, so let's just get that clear from the start.   BUT... Have you ever seen someone who was absolutely right about something get argued with to the point that they could no longer gracefully, tactfully articulate their point on a matter and seen them shut down the talking, rational side of their brain.  Have you seen them allow the lizard brain to take over and then they start throwing punches?   I have.  I've seen people get so flustered, so frustrated, so galled by the audacity of the moron arguing with them that they finally just clammed up and threw a massive haymaker and put the moron on their ass.   Frankly, I'm worried that sooner or later the part of society who still believes in the Constitution is going to clam up and stop trying to argue.  And when that happens, God help us for what might be next.   :meh:

  18. Sooner or later someone with a HCP is going to get murdered on their way to or from the office, and their family members are going to sue the living shit out of the employer for prohibiting the deceased from being able to have their legally possessed handgun in the car at the time.  When that happens, I hope the employer is bent over and their bank account is reamed out properly by the court system.   That is the only way this is going to change.  Until it does, we're all pissing in the wind with our hopes and dreams because TN's legislature isn't going to side with anyone other than the big tax payers.  i.e. Corporations.

  19.   The would be fools not to release a carbine right now, especially if they have been building up stockpiles of them.  Imagine being the only manufacturer with all the rifles anyone would care to buy, ready to ship.  You couldn't walk into your local gun store right now without seeing Glock carbines and not much else on the wall.  It would overnight become the ubiquitous modern carbine by sheer fact of being the only one available.   You just can't buy popularity like that.

  22. Holder must be grinning ear-to-ear right now. Investigation reports zero culpability in F&F, Obama re-elected, and now this.   A devout Democrat once told me he was the worst Attorney General in history.  And yet, he still finds a way to win.  That contract with Satan must've been a doozy.

  25. Yeah, because I have a well documented history here of candy coating the way I feel about people, things or issues.   I still say it's preemptive to call the guy a traitor just because he has an opinion on something that runs sideways to what you or I think or believe.  Dissent is the highest form of patriotism, even if it's dissent that you don't agree with.  Until he starts trying to actively betray the American people, our interests, our sovereignty or dismantle the Constitution, he's guilty only of having some really fucked up ideas.

I am well aware of the new regulations.  But again I ask, where does it stop?  What happens when the next group lobbies for what they believe in.  So what if  PETA successfully lobbies the govt.  Am I supposed to put posters up in my business that says eating meat is cruel?  Where does it stop.  When can I decide what to allow or not allow on my property.

  30. The site is just ridiculously fast during the day but once we load it up with 400+ active users in the evening, all searching and posting, it really comes to a crawl.  The good news is that a friend of mine has been working at getting a very reliable new server set up for us, so I'm hopeful that we can move soon.   When it comes to servers and infrastructure, I'm pretty good at a lot of things, and really good at a few, but this guy is awesome at Linux servers so when he volunteered I knew it was time to step aside and let him do his magic.

  32. Good advice here so far.  I'll add a few of my thoughts:     Ammo.... just buy whatever 00 or 000 buckshot you can find cheaply.  All 2.75" buckshot does an excellent job of stopping threats, and the differences between loads is pretty minimal.  I would also recommend finding an inexpensive slug (no sabot slugs, they need rifled barrels), and shooting a few to learn the point of impact at 25, 50, and 100 yards out of your gun.  I don't keep slugs loaded in my defense shotguns, but I do like having 2 or 3 on the sidesaddle, in case a situation arises where I need more range and/or precision.     Speaking of sidesaddles.... the Mesa and TacStar are pretty much the only two choices, I've got both.  The Mesa is way stronger, way more expensive, and way more complicated to install.  For hard use (lots of training, going through doors, HSLD cool guy stuff), I'd pony up for the Mesa.  For a home defense gun that spends most of its life leaning in the corner, the Tac Star is perfectly adequate.  The SpeedFeed stocks are also excellent, but much slower to load from than the sidesaddle.  When I had my 1100 on patrol back in the day, I used the Speedfeed to carry #6 shot to dispatch snakes and othe varmints (which is the only time I ever actually used my shotgun on duty  )     Speaking of stocks... First things first... make sure some part of the stock goes all the way to your shoulder... "Cruiser" shotguns are for movie stars and blowing off door hinges.  Anything with a pistol grip is very, very awkard on the Mossbergs, because of the safety location.  Almost every shotgun stock I've ever picked up has been too long for normal folks.  My recommendation is to find the shortest youth stock you can find, and use something like a Limbsaver recoil pad to make it as long as you need.      A light is very important on a defensinve shotgun... know your target and all that.  The Surefire forends are very expensive, and very nice.  There are quite a few other options out there now, including railed forearms that you can add any number of lights too.  I'm a fan of the relatively new Inforce WML.  A tritium front bead is an excellent add-on as well.     I'll end with this:  learn how to run the gun.  The shotgun is IMHO the hardest small arm to learn how to effectively fight with.  Get some dummy shells and practice loading.  Shoot your buckshot load at some paper at various distances to learn how it patterns (you bought cheap buckshot, remember).  Even with buckshot, the shotgun is capable of some degree of precision if you learn how.  Then grab your dummy shells and practice loading some more.  Have fun, and stay safe!     DanO

  36. the percentages come into play when you are actually using the TX star as shooting targets.  You can use steel hard cover and there is no percentage taken into account.    Remember stage 3 at the Music City Cup II and a few years back at Tri-States, there was plate racks used as hard cover on a limited stage with cardboard targets behind the plates?  It could have been TX stars doesn't matter(plate racks are longer and cover more area).   Last year, Tri-States had the smoke and hope steel challenge props in a stage.  5 steel and behind each steel a partially exposed cardboard target.

  40.   I concur.  My initial reaction was "F### him and anyone who looks like him" but then the rational side of me took hold and I once again took inventory of the fact that he is a [former] face of the US Military, viewed as a subject matter expert by the unthinking masses, and therefore his words will and do carry weight.   Unfortunately his opinion will matter to a degree.  It's just one more bit of mental programming via mass media, for the gullible public to dutifully lap up and regurgitate later when it comes time to make their own decisions.   People who think for themselves are dangerous.  They're doing everything they can to make sure you, I, our family members, friends, neighbors, don't do that.

  41. I am torn on this topic.  I see both sides.  As a gun owner and carrier I want to be able to carry my firearm where ever I go.  If a business says no firearms allowed, I try not to give them any of my business.     As a small business owner, I strongly feel that this is my place, my rules.  If you do not like them, don't work for me.  I have a real problem with the government telling me what I can and can not have on my property.  Before someone brings up the Disability Act, it is not the same thing.  You don't choose to be disabled, you choose to carry a gun.  Now don't get me wrong, I have no problem with my employees carrying.  I have a huge problem with the state telling me what I can or can not allow on my own property or in my business.
