Here's some food for thought.... A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY TO THINK ABOUT.......December 29, 2012 marked the 122nd Anniversary of the murder of 297 Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. These 297 people, in their winter camp, were murdered by federal agents and members of the 7th Cavalry who had come to confiscate their firearms “for their own safety and protectionâ€. The slaughter began after the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms. The Calvary began shooting, and managed to wipe out the entire camp. 200 of the 297 victims were women and children. About 40 members of the 7th Cavalry were killed, but over half of them were victims of fratricide from the Hotchkiss guns of their overzealous comrades-in-arms. Twenty members of the 7th Cavalry's death squad, were deemed “National Heroes†and were awarded the Medal of Honor for their acts of [cowardice] heroism. We hear very little of Wounded Knee today. It is usually not mentioned in our history classes or books. What little that does exist about Wounded Knee is normally a sanitized “Official Government Explanationâ€. And there are several historically inaccurate depictions of the events leading up to the massacre, which appear in movie scripts and are not the least bit representative of the actual events that took place that day. Wounded Knee was among the first federally backed gun confiscation attempts in United States history. It ended in the senseless murder of 297 people. Before you jump on the emotionally charged bandwagon for gun-control, take a moment to reflect on the real purpose of the Second Amendment, the right of the people to take up arms in defense of themselves, their families, and property in the face of invading armies or an oppressive government. The argument that the Second Amendment only applies to hunting and target shooting is asinine. When the United States Constitution was drafted, “hunting†was an everyday chore carried out by men and women to put meat on the table each night, and “target shooting†was an unheard of concept. Musket balls were a precious commodity and were certainly not wasted on “target shootingâ€. The Second Amendment was written by people who fled oppressive and tyrannical regimes in Europe, and it refers to the right of American citizens to be armed for defensive purposes, should such tyranny arise in the United States. As time goes forward, the average citizen in the United States continually loses little chunks of personal freedom or “libertyâ€. Far too many times, unjust gun control bills were passed and signed into law under the guise of “for your safety†or “for protectionâ€. The Patriot Act signed into law by G.W. Bush, was expanded and continues under Barack Obama. It is just one of many examples of American citizens being stripped of their rights and privacy for “safetyâ€. Now, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is on the table, and will, most likely be attacked to facilitate the path for the removal of our firearms, all in the name of “our safetyâ€. Before any American citizen blindly accepts whatever new firearms legislation that is about to be doled out, they should stop and think about something for just one minute- Evil does exist in our world. It always has and always will. Throughout history evil people have committed evil acts. In the Bible one of the first stories is that of Cain killing Abel. We can not legislate “evil†into extinction. Good people will abide by the law, and the criminal element will always find a way around it. Evil exists all around us, but looking back at the historical record of the past 200 years, across the globe, where is “evil†and “malevolence†most often found? In the hands of those with the power, the governments. That greatest human tragedies on record and the largest loss of innocent human life can be attributed to governments. Who do the governments always target? “Scapegoats†and “enemies†within their own borders…but only after they have been disarmed to the point where they are no longer a threat. Ask any Native American, and they will tell you it was inferior technology and lack of arms that contributed to their demise. Ask any Armenian why it was so easy for the Turks to exterminate millions of them, and they will answer “We were disarmed before it happenedâ€. Ask any Jew what Hitler’s first step prior to the mass murders of the Holocaust was- confiscation of firearms from the people. Wounded Knee is the prime example of why the Second Amendment exists, and why we should vehemently resist any attempts to infringe on our Rights to Bear Arms. Without the Second Amendment we will be totally stripped of any ability to defend ourselves and our families.9 points

True or not, I don't give a flying you-know-what. Our right is recognized by the constitution, and executive orders aren't a trump card. Yep, a lot of people have paid more than they might have otherwise - hey, elections have consequences. Way I see it, though, there are hundreds of thousands of new owners with skin in the game. The scalpers that bought for resale can take it in the wallet, for all I care, but the newbies now have a vested interest in safeguarding our rights.9 points

Okay, no more ammo at Walmart. So, please, all you Knoxville area folks please don't even look there for any. As a public service, I will periodically stop in there and check to see if the rumor is true. - OS4 points

You know, I don't get real upset when I hear a liberal say "You don't need an AR or AK to hunt <animal of choice>." Figure that just goes with being a Liberal and fairly ignorant and mostly stupid. The ones that piss me off and I mean REALLY PISS ME OFF, are the small minority of hunters that post that garbage online or stand up in front of a microphone and spout that nonsense!!! They are so moronic that they think nothing will happen to their firearms. They think they will never be next, which I think is a bunch of hogwash! They tried back in the 1960's to have rifle scopes declared illegal after after that nutcase shot all those people down in Texas with a hunting rifle. And the Libs are always going after the hunting rounds because of lead. These people better wake up! Cause they are next!!!4 points

From what I can gather, "the militia" is every able bodied male citizen in the United States. I will go a bit further than most, and state that it is my belief that it is one's civic duty to own and be proficient with a firearm. This is as revelent today as it has ever been. This is evident in the fear shown by politicians toward law abiding gun owners.4 points

I'm fine with what I've got and will be fine for a while with my casual shooting frequency. stocked up slowly and steadily the past few years, then turned it up a good bit in the fall which was good timing. Not buying anything at these prices. One thing I've learned from this is that things can change so dramatically and quickly it'll make your head spin. We had two years of relatively stable prices and plentiful supply of guns, mags and ammo, then bam! All gone in a week. Next time it could be oil or food.4 points

Never count your chickens before they hatch . But every new gun sale , every new NRA member every email ,letter or call to your elected leaders send the message that we are informed and ready to dispute the false facts and stand up for our rights . Anyone with the hopes of re election knows it would be political suicide . Everyday that passes will make it that much harder for them to get it passed . Don't give an inch , make the calls and send the emails .3 points

I really believe the Obamatrons got a wake up call when they started talks of bans and registrations etc., then witnessing all the "newbies" and oldies completly drain most the products of an entire industry in just a month, and I bet alot more pro-freedom minded people like us are making a big serious stance of resistance in telling their Reps what they think, more then we realize. I think "they" are realizing that the gun-control they wish for is going to cost them a crap load of problems they don't want. That and James Yeager scared the hell out of them. :)2 points

As one who does not believe that I should have to have the government's permission to have and/or carry a firearm, I disagree with the notion that background checks are a crime deterrent. Criminals who want guns will get them regardless of any type of required background check, so a system that requires the average law-abiding citizen to obtain the state and/or Feds' permission is simply a waste of time and money. It surely does provide the gubmit with some good revenue, however.2 points

I love tough women. That's how my wife will read you your rights when you step out of line. She is showing the guys how to do it. No craziness, no foam around the mouth, just straight jabs until the opponent is out on their feet and she won't scuff her heels or smudge her makeup while destroying you.2 points

Pain med's are a scourge on society. How you regulate it and actually make a difference I have no idea. People who legitimately need pills will suffer for not being able to get them. Pillheads will still find a way to get their fix. I am not sure how more laws will fix much of anything.2 points

I'm not really concerned about the shortage, but I do find it aggravating to go to a store for something and see a bare shelf. What is going to be interesting is when something happens that causes a food shortage like this. I don't believe the population in general will be as patient and understanding as the shooting community. I don't really understand why companies keep unveiling new models when they can't keep up producing existing models.2 points

The issue is the state is prohibited from taking any action that would have a 'chilling effect' on his first amendment rights.... None of us have a right to a drivers license, but if the state denied or revoked a drivers license based purely on content of protected speech, that would be a clear violation of Yeager's first amendment rights. (note it has nothing to do with the 2nd amendment). If the only reason Yeager's permit was pulled was because of the video, and IF that speech was protected speech, then any negative action by the state because of that speech would violate his first amendment rights. Since the speech in the video doesn't appear to rise to a level of criminal behavior under TN law, then the speech is by it's very nature protected. A perfect example of this would be the KKK, and their desire to 'adopt a highway'... Sponsoring a highway is not a 'right', yet it is a violation of the first amendment (and others) to prohibit them from 'adopting a highway' because the state (or employees of the state) disagree with their protected speech. Before you say, oh that isn't a violation, 8th circuit ruled it was, and SCOTUS let the ruling stand. So, do you see the logic behind the potential violation?2 points

All this talk about rights to free speech being violated and whatnot, can someone please point out how any of his rights were violated? None of us, including Yanker, has any right to carry a firearm in the state of Tennessee. Don't like it? Well, me neither, but that is reality, and therefore his right to due process was not violated. He'll probably get his permit back since he was juuuust smart enough to get a lawyer and listen to him (this is after he said "f**k you in a YouTube video at everyone who advised him to retract his earlier statement and shut his mouth; I guess he didn't say the same thing to his lawyer).2 points

I'm glad Senator Frank Niceley realizes what these gun grabbers are up to. We need to support him to protect Tennessee from this unconstitutional grab of power from Washington. We will not register, turn in or surrender our guns to a tyrannical administration.2 points

This guy is full of more crap than a Christmas Turkey. This is nothing more than a dog & pony show. He has an agenda to weaken the 2nd amendment and take our guns. I can't stand his lies and propaganda. The lap dog media won't call him on it, Fox is getting weak kneed and the uninformed sheep in this country are oblivious to what these temporary politicians are doing to them. We as gun owners and patriots need to educate the uninformed, disconnected, and low information voters as to what these statists are doing to our country.2 points

We should not let up! Keep writing, calling and voting! Just because it appears the danger may be past, doesn't mean it can't come up again. No matter how innocent the other side makes it look, always suspect every one of their ideas, because they are not going to be good for us. If they can't get us with one big bill, then they will come at us with a lot of small bills and try and get the get the same affect, if they can. We must continue to keep the pressure on our Representatives in Washington and in our State Capitals. Every time we lose a fight and some seemingly small change happens, that erodes the 2A; we need to make sure that the politicians that were responsible for that law passing, get sent home and some one that is 2A friendly, replaces them. Keep your on on the target, boys and girls! This is far from over!!!1 point

One must ask the question "Causation or correlation?". People who take psychiatric drugs are already unstable. Is it the drugs or the fact that they are already unstable that creates such a mental environment to commit such an act?1 point

I went to the goodman show today. It will be my last show until this insanity stops. There were a thousand people in line, the space inside looked like a mob scene. The prices were obscene. a buck a round for AR ammo, $1,500 for Romanian AKs and 2,000 for run of the mill ARs. Half the people there were not 'gun show' people. Everyone was looking for the last bargain before obama takes all our guns, or that seemed to be the mindset of the vendors I regularily talk to. It sure would be nice if someone promoted a show closed to everyone but reloaders, casters and hunter. I am sick of these tired old "gun" shows filled with fake indian artifacts, survival food, hip hoppers and tactifool idiots dressed in black BDUs. Maybe we could start doing a TGO swapmeet somewhere. Put your thinking hats on fellow TGOers! Where can we find a vacant lot where access can be controlled?1 point

Commando , You think more highley of him than I do . I believe as everyday goes by and more voices are heard that it will be harder to pass . We have so much better ways to let our voice be heard and to get the information we need than we had in 94 . We also will not say it won't happen because it has before . All the gun sales ,email and new NRA membership has to be sending a message that anyone with hopes for re election can't deny . Of coarse that doesn't apply to King Hussein unless they change the 22nd amendment. And that has been brought up.1 point

I was reading the bill Wyoming is proposing. (H.B. 0104). Amends W.S. 6-8-405. It basically tells the Federal Gov to butt out. Any law they pass that is unconstitutional and violates the Constitution, bill of rights, or the declaration of independence is null and void in their state. And any federal officer that comes into the state will be arrested and spend 1-5 years in jail and face a fine. This covers all guns, high capacity magazines, firearm accessories, ammunition owned and or manufactured in the state as long as they don't leave the state. Texas, Oklahoma are following suite. Tennessee needs to do the same. The President is ignoring the congress and the Constitution. We need to protect ourselves from this tyranny and unlawful President. This is all about power and destroying our country. It has absolutely nothing to do with safety.1 point

No. And I don't mean to reprimand you but instead ask that you not consider looking for one. Even if there were loopholes, it does no one any good. We have a fair and just system in TN. It may not be perfect but it is exponentially better than the most of Amerika. PLEASE, support the system by getting your permit. By supporting the system in this manner you make your voice heard as one of a large number. Lawmakers respect numbers. They have to. The larger the number of people supporting a given thing, the greater the power that thing has. If enough participate, the chances of revoking TNs rights to carry diminish.1 point
