TGO ammo prices haven't been all bad, there are many members here with morals that won't gouge their fellow member. Since sandy hook I've picked up about a dozen AR mags and haven't spent more than $25 on any of them. The bulk of those came from one stand up member who read a post saying I wish I had stocked up before things went crazy. He sold me 9 mags Troy, Pmags, and Colt GI for $9 a piece. Through talking a bit he found out I had no 223 and practically gave me 90 rounds and a bag of tracers to go along with the mags. Then cut me a steal of a deal on a CMMG kit so I wouldn't have to tap into the reserves just to shoot my at the time new AR. Another member sold me 15 boxes of wolf 223 for the staggering price of $4.50 a box. That's what he had into it and that's what he wanted out of it. The $25 dollar GI mags were a trade I worked out for a few NIB remington 570 30 rounders that cost $25 each. There are a few people that should feel ashamed in a few months when things normalize but there are some who have really proven to be good people as well.7 points

I have all that stuff in my house. Is that supposed to be some kind of field expedient bomb? Do they teach every TSA halfwit that these items are somehow dangerous or just the exceptional ones with IQs above 60? And no, I don't live in a small world. I live in a world where I'd rather have a plane hijacked every once in a while than hand over freedoms. The zero defect society that you and your ilk dream of isn't possible without infringing on every aspect of a person's life. Life comes at risk from the moment you're born until the moment before you die. Accept it. Embrace it. The answer is not to restrict liberty in order to prevent disaster, it is to come up with passive measures to prevent incident, such as reinforced doors, and active measures such as Sky Marshals. If we had a Marshal on 50% of flights it would eliminate the threat of hijackings completely without infringing on a single person's rights and would be far cheaper than the TSA which is nothing but a welfare program for people with zero intelligence or job skills. I hate making such a broad assessment, but I have yet to meet a TSA agent that wasn't a complete retard.6 points

I've been watching your defense of the TSA. I don't fly anymore just because of those assholes. I have no idea where you came from, or what you "know", but you're wasting your time with me. The TSA, all of them, need to be rounded up and sent back to their old gigs in the fast food industry. They have ONE fan in this world... you.6 points

Yes our Laissez-faire economics are certainly revealing some interesting character traits here on TGO.5 points

Wow, you really get your tampon in a bunch when folks insult the TSA. I'd say there is a higher than average sampling of people here who absolutely know what the real world is like. I'm one of them. We don't need the TSA. If the reason the TSA exists is to stop planes from being flown into buildings we solved that problem with reinforced cockpit doors. There, problem solved for what it costs the government to employ one brain-dead, mouth breathing waste of oxygen TSA agent.4 points

Vandy is a private university and should be able to set policies as they see fit without big brother telling them what to do. If students disagree with the school's policies, they are free to take their education dollars elsewhere.3 points

I don't see any rights being violated, its reall simple, don't like the policies at Vandy? Adios, don't let the door hit ya on the way out. No one is forcing anyone to go to the school, its not publicly owned, take it or leave it. As to the policies themselves, I'll have to do a little reading on them before I decide how much or little to care. On the matter of asking the gov to step in and FORCE a privately owned institution to comply, I don't even need to think about that to know I don't support it. Quite frankly its none of their business and they've got more important things to do.2 points

So that makes everything the TSA does in terms of assaulting innocent travelers okay? By that logic, police should be able to strip search anyone they want during a traffic stop, since there have been accounts of female offenders hiding switchblade knives in their snatches. If it saves one life.....2 points

Ahh just upset they don't have another dead child to further the agenda ... as a lot of the comments said, they don't want heroes or people to take a stand. This kid deserves a medal, but sadly, the suspension is most likely all he'll get.2 points

Yes, it really is dangerous. There seems to be a growing trend on the right with this sort of conspiratorial worldview and it's very detrimental to freedom loving people in this country. First, it feeds into the rhetoric of the left that portrays the right, especially gun owners, as dangerous and lacking rational thought. Second, it will be a matter of time before one of these people are crazy enough and pissed off enough to pull another Timothy McVeigh. What's even more concerning to me is that some of the people I know who unquestioningly buy into this crap should be smart enough to know better.2 points

No, you sound like the New York Governor wanting to take away everyone's rights, in this instance right to personal decency and privacy, which is what the TSA does everyday. Search my bags, Xray me. Sure I'll take my shoes off, my belt off, everything out of my pockets.....But when you take your hands and vigorously grope my balls, groin and BH in the name of "security", you are way over the line. The TSA gropes everyone from 3 year olds to 95 year olds in a way that is illegal anywhere. But in an airport your doing it without cause. In both instances I mentioned, the TSA had nothing to do with stopping the bombers. They were stopped by crew and citizens on the planes. What good is it to have the TSA vigorously probe everybody's privates here in America in OUR airports and not do it in Paris, France and Amsterdam anyway? I've worked in Nuclear Plants several times recently and even they don't carry on like the TSA does. The TSA might be your hero's.....but they are not mine. Oh and all this to the tune of $43 BILLION in 2011 and $57 BILLION taxpayers dollars in 2012......2 points

Yeah! The school can't tell private groups how to operate! Christianity is about loving one another, unless you're gay. Or Muslim. Lord knows we can't have them Muslims and gays around the Christians- might be contagious or something! So let's use the government to make this private university do what we want! Yay freedom! Yay America! C'mon, bubba, let's get 'em! :rofl:2 points

So if you're a Christian group, why would you elect a Muslim or other religion into a position of power? That defeats the entire purpose? Seems like much to do about nothing and a bunch of rich kids whining.2 points

I use old cut up undershirts. The materi being ridged is a huge help cleaning a filthy barrel. Don't ask me why, just seems to scrub better. I go through a lot in the summer so supply is usually not an issue, plus my fat a$$ wears a pretty big shirt so I get a lot from each one.1 point

The rights enumerated in the Constitution only apply to government, not private organizations.if we were talking about UT, I'd be right there with you but we're not. Vandy is a private entity and therefore should have the ability to set its internal policies how it wishes. Of course, I view the large portions of the 1964 Civil Rights Act that apply to private business to be illegitimate. If one is not acting on behalf of the government, then one should be free to associate, or not associate as one pleases. TGO is a great analogy. You have the right to free speech, you don't have the right to exercise it here. This is David's house, you play by his rules, or you leave. These student orgs are in Vandy's house and have to play by their rules.1 point

TSA is trying to be the equivalent of Nazi Germany's Gestopo. The ones I have dealt with seemingly are a step above uneducated thugs run by a bunch of tyrant wannabes. I think it should be the first Federal Organization abolished followed closely by the BATFE. The more we get Washington out of our daily lives, the better we all will be. That goes for which ever party is in charge.1 point

"TSA hasn't succeeded in doing anything any better than previous airport security was doing." Do you mean the type that did so well on the morning of 9/11/2001? "You make it sound like everything is top secret, yet the famous shoe bomber and underwear bomber was shouted from the rooftops....but they got on the planes anyway didn't they?" Yep, both on Airplanes. Robert Reed put a bomb in his shoe and boarded a plane in Paris. The underwear bomber was Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, and he boarded in Amsterdam. TSA does not screen in Paris, France nor in Amsterdam. You guys sound like a New York Governor. Blame Blame Blame. Remember who you're mad at.1 point

My only revolver is a Ruger LCR. I chose to bring it with me on vacation this week along with my Glock 19. There is just something about revolvers that I love. We're staying in a really bad part of Savannah GA for the next few days. Today while getting gas in a horrible part of town my girlfriend grabbed the Ruger out of my glove box when I went inside. I'm glad she can feel comfortable with it.1 point

Today, someone asked me which of my guns is my favorite. I said I like my Sig because of the quality and accuracy, my Glock because of its ruggedness and simplicity, etc. Then he said, "If you could only grab one, which would it be?" I thought for a second, and said it would be my 4" Smith & Wesson model 65 revolver in .357 magnum. Simple, rugged, reliable, multiple cartridge choices, and enough power for most needs.1 point

I was recently a passenger in a car that was pulled over. I was not the driver. The reason the officer pulled us over was because the car's license plate had just expired. Officer was courteous and friendly, simply made the driver aware and we all went on our way. I was carrying my J-frame OWB under a cover garment. As a passenger, I had no direct interaction with the LEO - he didn't even speak to me (no reason he should.) He never saw my firearm and I made the decision not to inform him - simply kept my hands in my lap and made no sudden moves. Further, the driver (who also has an HCP) had her pistol in the glove compartment. She didn't inform him, either (although she keeps her HCP behind her license and made no effort to conceal the HCP from him when she handed him her license.) As I said, the officer checked her license and let her go after making her aware of the expired license plate. To my knowledge, he never knew that there were two firearms in the vehicle - the subject never came up, the sky didn't fall and no one was shot or even yanked out of the car and put face down on the pavement. Last April, I was involved in an accident that was not my fault. The 'at fault' party ran a red light. I was carrying but removed my firearm from my belt and left it in my vehicle (I never really left the vicinity of my vehicle.) When the officer who wrote up the report came to take my statement, I never mentioned the firearm in my vehicle. Again, I saw no reason to do so, the subject never came up and the interaction went without a hitch. I used to think that I would inform no matter what but those, two interactions have made me reconsider that stance. If I am driving and have the firearm on me then there is a good chance I would inform - but maybe not. Of course, if for some reason I need to move around rather than sitting still with my hands in plain sight then I will inform because I wouldn't want any misunderstanding. Otherwise, the way I see it, the cop doesn't give up his gun for my comfort so I see no reason to create a situation where he might take my gun for his comfort. Honestly, I don't know him any more than he knows me and there are plenty of cops who commit crimes - simply having a badge doesn't make him 'above suspicion' in my eyes any more than having an HCP makes me 'above suspicion' in his. Beyond that, a LEO is a civilian just like me and I feel no more a 'duty' to inform him that I have a gun than I feel to inform anyone else that I might speak to while carrying. I truly think we need to stop this notion that LEO are some kind of 'special' class of citizen or that they should have rights or privileges which we wouldn't extend to any other civilian.1 point

I leave my wife with a G19. She still has a hard time racking the slide, as she does it the way a girly girl would, so I leave a round chambered. It is as simple as point and click if she needs to use it. I figure if she can't solve it in 16 rounds it won't be solved. I don't see her having to do a combat mag change in a gunfight if she has 16 friggin rounds. She'll either hit something or make a whole lotta noise. Either way, you aren't going to find many people who will continue their attack if they are shot or being shot at, just so they can rape or steal. I always see a lot of people suggest revolvers for women because there isn't a slide to rack or whatever. It doesn't pass the common sense test for me. Their revolver will likely only hold 5 rounds. If they expend them do you think the average woman is going to handle a speed reload on a .38 while someone is trying to kill them? Not likely. Why not just give them a firearm with 3 times the capacity so they don't have to screw around with slides and whatnot. Oh, and before someone chimes in with something about their ability to clear a malfunction let me add this: I own a Glock. I've put 2k rounds through it of every type of ammo I can think of. My HD ammo is the good stuff. I'm confident enough that she won't have a malfunction with it if she has to use it. If you are that concerned about your spouse clearing a malfunction on a semi auto pistol, then you own the wrong pistol for home defense. Get a Glock.1 point

If your that worried about under penetration due to heavy clothes or jackets switch to another caliber. I know many shooters not one of whom would try taking a headshot on a moving combative target unless absolutely positively neccasery. Especially in any kind of scenario in which a miss on the target equals a potential hit on an innocent bystander. I read a lot about the whole two to the chest one to the head and think that's a crap load of crap as well personaly. There may be one or two instances in which that may be the correct thing to do but it's so highly unlikely I won't train to ingrain it into my head. If they don't drop after two center mass shots we'll see what three or four does to em. If anything I'm probably more likely to try shooting lower than higher, the hips make a much better target than the head and I have a hard time picturing someone continuing any kind of threatening advance with a shattered hip.1 point
