  1.   In the past, I have actually discussed my views on just this sort of thing with Black friends and acquaintances of mine.  Keep in mind that this was while the Shrub was still in office, before Obama became POTUS and long before the nation had ever heard of a guy named George Zimmerman, etc.  I saw just such a thing coming even then.   What we discussed is the fact that I have more in common with the average Black man who goes to work on a daily basis and is just trying to live his life than either of us have in common with the George Bushes (and Barack Obamas) of the world.  Further, I believe that there are people 'in power' of all races, creeds and ethnicities who want to keep racial strife going because they know that if we ever stop hating each other long enough to look around we will realize that if there is 'oppression' going on it isn't the average White person oppressing Black people but, rather, that group of power brokers oppressing us all.  As long as they (the Obamas and Bushes and Cheneys and Gores and countless others whose names we will likely never know) can keep us at each others' throats - as long as they can use tools like Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to perpetuate distrust, anger and hatred - then we won't have time to turn our eyes to them and maybe, just maybe, do something about the real problem.

  2. scrolled down to the bottom of the TGO page and it said we now have 1 Million posts on the board... Not sure if that's since the most recent upgrade or for all time.  Either way, great accomplishment and a great resource!  Thanks to David and all of the other Admins that make this a great corner of the internet.

  3. Based on you just wanting to buy one gun, let me throw out another less expensive option than buying a FS and using the compact for EDC.     Get the X-Grip mag extensions for the compact, which turns it into the FS capacity and use it for your house gun.  Buy the Shield for your EDC.   If you find yourself wanting a little more capacity than the Shield at times, use the compact with the normal compact mags.

  4.   To me, the double standard that exists re: White on Black crime vs. Black on White crime is no different from the double standard that used to say that Black folks had to sit at the back of the bus or drink from a different water fountain.  Black folks were right to point out and protest that double standard and it is just as 'right' to point out and protest the double standard that has now swung in the other direction.  To think otherwise or act as if race doesn't matter in such cases, to me, is basically sticking one's head in the sand and hoping that things won't get worse.

  5.   This is a problem right here in TN, especially Clarksville.  We are up to at least one murder a week, sometimes more, and it's always someone who otherwise would have been incarcerated.  These slimy lawyers and pro-crime judges we have go for the plea deal every single effing time.  Spineless jellyfish... ALL OF THEM!  They are just as guilty of these crimes as the owner of viscious dog would be when he lets it roam free.  They pat themselves on their spineless backs when they get a conviction with a plea deal and don't care that the thug receives no punishment.  CONVICTION DOES NOT EQUAL PUNISHMENT!  These thugs look at a conviction as street cred.  They need to be kept in cages where they belong, and executed when they are guilty of 1st degree murder.    I'm gonna watch Law Abiding Citizen again and cheer every time a lawyer gets smoked.

  7. We're talking about very different things. Jim Crow laws were self evident in their intent and executed by the state. A couple of black teenagers aren't. They could be perpetrating their crime for various reasons, not just because the victim happens to be white. The assumption that your skin color means you have to be an activist for or against something is racist. You don't know what that black guy over there thinks. He may agree with everything you say, but because he isn't loudly proclaiming it he is wrong? That's what we're talking about here. Read back to what I am responding to; a chorus of folks who say "it is the fault of all black people because they don't come out and condemn this." Well in that case it is the fault of all white people who don't condemn the things that white people do. Maybe I'm just an extremist here that believes the actions of a person who shares my skin color has no bearing on me, and I have no obligation to support or condemn their actions simply because of my skin color. So does the same apply to black people.

Couldn't hit crap with them from revolvers, but worked fine in my Marlin rifle. Finally decided powder was just too slow burning out of short barrel, acted like bottle rockets.   -OS

  22. I get sick and tired of the world standing and pointing at crap like this, turning to us and saying " DO SOMETHING...Don't just stand there."...let the other freeloading countries spend their money and shed their blood if they are so concerned. And another thing is this. These people and most of the middle east hate our guts and protest us in the streets and would kill Americans on sight given half a chance. Why get involved at all? We need to cut all aide to these people, use the money to develop our own oil reserves and make ourselves self reliant on oil and stay out of all Muslim countries is my line of thinking.

  25. All those reasons are what concerns me and should give folks pause who say the same things as JJ only in reverse. We all recognize that JJ and Sharpton are racists and race profiteers. But folks who think that JJ is the "king of the blacks" are being disingenuous. No matter how many black people are standing in the background during one of JJ's racist tirades, it doesn't mean that all, or even a majority of black people agree with what he's saying or see him as anything more than a hustler. We enter very dangerous territory when we can't separate race from the equation of violence and ignorance. We can't deny that there is a subculture in the US made up entirely of black people, but that doesn't mean all black people fall into that subculture. I often equate it to my trailer trash roots, as there were very few black people in my county, but a high density of trailer parks and scummy criminal white trash that had an entire subculture of abuse towards women and children, alcoholism, drug addiction, crime and racism. Sounds familiar, huh? Yet when I see a white person I don't automatically see trailer trash or a person who supports that kind of lifestyle. If I see a white guy dressed like trailer trash, then yes, I will apply that label. Same goes for black people. I see black professionals every day. In no way does their skin color give me cause to relate them to this story, or any similar story. I don't know what their opinions are on it, and I don't care. If we aren't personal friends then discussing our opinions is pretty unprofessional to begin with, but for all I know they share the same opinions as I do. Since I don't know what their opinions are why should I automatically assume they a part of the problem because they aren't "actively speaking out". The notion that they have an obligation to is preposterous. And for anyone who ignores the last sentence and cherry picks other quotes from this post, I swear I will go back through this and other threads where people suggested this very thing. It's preposterous and racist. It is not as if I ignore that the thug culture exists in poor black communities. I also recognize that most people born in those communities are raised to believe the white man is responsible for all their woes, and this indoctrination creates racists. But that doesn't apply to the whole of the race. When we do that we are the same as JJ and Sharpton, who claim that EVERY white person is responsible for racism in America. Saying ALL black people are part of the problem is no different..... and for folks who claim they didnt say that I promise you I will find all the quotes here on TGO to the contrary.

  27. Hmm..in my experience, RCBS are much better "finished" dies than the Lee's.  The only Lee dies I have left are 30-06 and the universal decapper.  Now the universal is a must, if you do batches of brass.  Just throw it in and decap everything and throw it in the tumbler.  The Lee's appear much less polished internally and with the 458 Socom, just plain didn't work.    Something isn't right here and I can't believe two sets of dies could have a problem but maybe you just won the lottery.   Just so we have all the info, what's the die set you have by part number?  They have a new set for "AR"s, did you get that set or the .223 Remington.  Two die or three die set?

I had him install a spring set from "Wilson Combat". That cured my issues, plus I had him polish the feed ramp.   DaveS Crack'a American

  38. Chemical weapons, if indeed are being used, changes nothing. We have little strategic interest in Syria (other than, perhaps, its geographical relation to and possible threat to Israel which is our only true ally in the Middle East). More importantly, there is no "good" side here...neither the established government nor any of the rebel factions are ever going to be our "friends' and are fare more likely to simply kill us given half a chance.   We need to stay out of it; see who "wins" and try then try to establish at least some sort of working relationship with them for communication's sake if nothing else.

  39. At which point did George Washington and his men cross the line from mere advocates for ones rights, to a full-blown extremists? And before he was elected as Commander in Chief, when each colony had their own militia? Is a second Revolutionary War completely out of the question, because we now have the right to vote? If not, which one of us has the authority to determine when and where that time has come? What if those of us on the right become so outnumbered by the leftists, voting no longer matters? Again, who makes the call? When and where? The term "extremists" gets thrown around a bit too loosely, in my humble opinion. As we've seen in these so-called "lists of extremists" published by the .gov, just about all of us on this forum have long been labled an extremist.

  40. It is if the person or group your discussing is a bunch of socialist, jack booted, nanny state thugs. I've been considered an extremist for years by some. I'm a white, male Christian who believes in guns, God, and I believe wholeheartedly that no government can take away my rights, as they are not privileges given by that Government in the first place. And I have no qualms saying it to anybody. Screw them and their list. Tapatalk ate my spelling.

  42. I haven't found a bad place in Tennessee, save for Memphis.   I'll give you a bit of advice. When you come here, forget everything you think you know as it relates to politics, religion, and "the way we do it in New York".   Also, do not comment on anyone's southern accent.   We don't like that here. If you insist on "doing it the way we did in New York", stay in New York.   Tennessee is a different place in every way imaginable.   I guess the area depends on whether you prefer mountains, hills, or billiard table flat land. We have it all from mountains in the east to flat land in the west.   If you enjoy sneezing and sweating in the summer and shoveling snow in the winter, Tennessee is for you.

  43.   I understand what you are saying, and I agree that nobody should stereotype all blacks based the actions of few.  To do so really makes one no different than poverty pimps like Jackson and Sharpton.  However, I believe it is a mistake to not recognize race in this situation when taken in conjunction with recent black on white crimes.  The reason I believe this should be acknowledged is for decades the media and political class have suppressed personal accountability/responsibility and promoted victimization within the black community.  Their actions have led to poor parenting, 72% out of wedlock births, and a staggering 1:15 incarceration rate of young black men.  Tragic.   In years past, most of the crime involving blacks (I refuse to use African-American, because I do not believe in hyphenated Americans.  We are all Americans.) was black on black crime and was concentrated in lower income urban areas.  Thanks to the actions by the social engineers within the political class, they caused the crime to spread to more affluent and typically lower crime areas (see my thread on HUD's recent proposal).    When white on black crime occurs, they shout racism and demand justice.  When opposite occurs, it is almost total silence.  I believe people are getting sick and tired of the blatant double standard.  I would also argue that whitewashing the latter is very dangerous in that it obscures the underlying cause of the problem, which is an overreaching federal government.   I have no problem recognizing race in this situation in addition to recognizing it in numerous other black on white crimes.  I don't do it out of any bias or prejudice.  I recognize it solely as an acknowledgement that the government's vile and down-right immoral actions the past several decades have created a disaster, especially within the teenage/young adult black community.  It is my belief that we will never see any improvement until society accepts that fact.    As a side note, I want to post an excerpt of Dr. Bill Cosby's speech he gave at a 2004 NAACP convention.  I enjoyed his speech, and thought he was right on.  It was unfortunate that he was criticized for his remarks by so many.     Accepting personal responsibility and getting government out of people's lives is really the only way this will ever be fixed.

  44. Just a friendly reminder that squirrel season opens in two weeks.   If you have a kid, or know a kid, or are willing to passively kidnap a child, please make an effort to introduce the next generation to the joy of our sport. Just get them out in the woods, away from the electronics, for a few hours. My first hunt was for squirrels. My grandfather took me when I was 8. I still remember that first hunt. I remember how loudly the leave crunched under my feet. I remember seeing the first squirrel I ever killed and all the knowledge that was shared with me that day. I remember my daughter's first hunt. Her first squirrel. How cold it was that day and how proudly she held that squirrel up for pictures. Don't miss the opportunity to make memories that will last a lifetime.

  45. Luckily for me I don't interpret a situation based on the emotional reactions of "the other side" in a reversed situation. I just don't see how JJ and Sharpton's race baiting means that I automatically have to make assumptions as well about all blacks when a couple of black guys beat a white person to death. Maybe it is racially motivated, but so what? Why should that change anything? The guy is still dead. Who do I have to be mad at other than the little monsters who did this and the breeders that raised them? Trust me, if the state of Washington asked me to be the executioner on this I'd not hesitate to get my hands bloody delivering justice, but I have no anger at anyone except for those responsible. Making this about race is just as bad as the race baiters. The moral high ground has better fields of fire. That's where "our side" needs to be.

  46. Stuff like this has always happened and always will happen. A couple of cowards killing a defenseless person is nothing new. It is a horrible crime that should be punished by death, but I am not convinced this is anything more than inhumanity which has existed throughout mankind's history on this earth. Let us not fall into the same trap that liberals do every time a white guy kills a black guy. I agree that if the races were reversed that the libs would be all over this, but we should be better than them. They are the race baiters.
